So, as hopefully my faithful and long suffering subscribers will know after 120 + episodes, the whole idea behind this podcast is about the importance of mindset and specifically how an experimental mindset can help us to navigate the world today, a world that is becoming more complex, more volatile, full of more and more contradictions and where outcomes are less and less predictable or certain. Within our mindset, I really believe that emotional intelligence is one of the most important attributes that we need. I still find it hard to believe that it's not part of our education systems – well, I don't find it hard to believe actually, because once you start to teach empathy, self awareness, that kind of stuff… the divide and conquer tactics of the ruling elite start to become less effective and their power starts to be eroded. I do believe that it should be taught to kids as soon as they are born, but I realise that there are a whole load of structural, systemic things that need to be worked out. X-Raided. His lifestory is as big a headfuck that you can get.He served a total of 26 years, five months, and 26 days in prison starting in 1992. He's always been very clear and honest about what he did not do on that lifechanging morning and also very clear and honest about what he did do, about the bad choices he made – but it needs to be said, because this shit still goes on around the world, that the foundation of the case built to convict him back in 1992 was constructed on the systemic prejudice against black people and people of colour that had been pumped through the veins of the US through government operations like CoinTelPro with all its nefarious, community damaging tactics based on lies and manipulation. This was the longest consecutive sentence served by any musician ever and just six months less than the time Nelson Mandela served.Whilst he was inside, he produced 12 albums give or take and he continued to create his music when he was released in 2018. Last year's A Prayer in Hell was truly outstanding and as we were recording this episode, his latest, the huge 24 track A Sin In Heaven, was about to be released and it's another hypnotic masterclass in how old school can evolve into the present. It's powerful, distinguished and full of heart and soul.I always like to take a moment to remember that music is always there for you, it will always come with you on your journey and it will always be your friend.https://www.iwannajumplikedeedee.comI Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is the music podcast that does music interviews differently. X-Raided is a rapper from Sacramento, California. In 1992, he was sentenced to 31 years in prison on murder charges, which he denied, maintaining his innocence. The lyrics of his debut album, Psycho Active, was submitted as evidence by the prosecutors. Subsequently, X continued to record rap songs in prison, until being released on parole 26 years into his sentence. He was later signed with Strange Music. X-Raided was paroled on September 14, 2018 after serving 26 years in prison, due to a letter of support from Lyle and Erik Menéndez, whom he had befriended in prison, who wrote that X-Raided "has developed into a kind and patient person, rooted in integrity, and passionate about his ideas." X-Raided expressed remorse for his past criminal activity, and expressed the intention leading a new life as a changed man, as well as marking a change in his career and lyrical style. There are prisoners and then there are people who find themselves in prison. X-Raided is an artist who falls into the latter category. X-Raided was released after serving 26 years. And in the ultimate irony, he completed his sentence months before the world went into its own kind of prison - the COVID lockdown. Undeterred, he remained laser-focused on his career as an artist, using his platform to advocate for criminal justice reform, and his continued evolution as a man, mentoring younger people. His resilience and continued relevance in the rap industry make X-Raided an intriguing and influential figure in hip-hop history. To listen to his catalog is to bear witness to growth. The line from a song like “Who's the Ho” to “The Sunken Place,” much like life itself - in the joint or not - is not a straight one. X-Raided's artistic catalog is a document to the growth of the man and the artist. LINKS X-Raided X-Raided on IG X-Raided on Spotify Strange Music

The first X-Raided album, Psycho Active, was recorded in June 1990 with Sacramento rapper Brotha Lynch Hung, and released in 1992. Brown claims that the recording was made during a deadly conflict between the 24th Street Garden Blocc Crips and the Meadowview Bloods, contributing to lyrics full of violence. Rolling Stone Magazine wrote that "Psycho Active" was the most gangster album of all time.In March 1992, Brown was arrested with four other gang members for murdering Patricia Harris in her home. He was convicted of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of gang-related homicide and was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison. From 1993 to 1995, he recorded songs over the telephone while in jail awaiting trial. They were released on the 1995 album Xorcist. One track begins with a recording of a collect call which identifies him as "an inmate in Sacramento County Jail". This second album garnered even more attention and it was covered in various mainstream media outlets including Playboy (September 1996).His third album, Unforgiven (1998), was recorded on a DAT recorder smuggled in by a prison guard.[1] Beats were added later by producer DJ VerbalTek. His fourth, Speak of the Devil (2000), was credited to the pseudonymous "Nefarious" in order to evade California's Son of Sam II law, and his fifth, The Initiation (2001), was released on his own label, Madman Records. X Raided also earned a degree in Psychology and helped implement programs to aid in rehabilitation of inmates to be paroled and anti recidivism. Brown was paroled on September 14, 2018 after serving 26 years in prison. He said shortly after his release that he was abandoning his X-Raided persona and would perform as "Anerae Veshaughn", releasing music with a positive message. Despite this he has released four albums and 13 singles under his original persona of X-Raided since his release.X Raided recently inked a lucrative partnership between his BlocStar label and independent powerhouse Strange Music.

Episode 2 of “The Prison Chronicles” – My Dark Companion This episode reveals the background of three of our main characters: Anerae VeShaughn, Shaka Senghor and Kenyatta Leal. As we gain insight into their lives, we begin understanding the impact of the external influences on the infrastructure of their minds. Whether it’s parallels to combat zones, abandonment, or PTSD from the constant danger, the decisions that led to their crimes and subsequent life sentences are influenced profoundly by the challenges they reveal in this episode. Anerae VeShaughn, also known as the rapper X-Raided, gives us the title for the episode, “My Dark Companion.” The artwork from his album the “” depicts Anerae killing off the last of his dark influencer, represented as his rapping gang-affiliated alter ego. The Dark Companion, as Anerae describes it, is a life devaluing influence that infects its host. The host, in this case Anerae, does not realize the companion is present…yet it is always there, removing any trace of empathy or humanity from the host. The parallels between his youth and that of Iraq are shocking. Further, the compulsory violent retribution expected in his ‘hood places Anerae and his peers on an inexorable path. Understanding this reality is critical to evolve our collective perspective about inmates and what precipitates their incarceration. Shaka continues this examination into the violence and hopelessness of their youth. Among many things, Shaka reveals, “Prison is an extension of our community.” Think about that…as a society, we have people that see prison as a regular destination for themselves or their neighbors. Further, the amount of violence in Shaka’s family, which was common for the neighborhood, is on par with Pete’s combat experiences—how does an inner-city Detroit kid coming up in the crack cocaine era not develop PTSD? Recognizing the Dark Companion’s impact on the early lives of our subjects is essential for solving the Prison Reform problem. In Episode 3, we’ll continue examining the lives of our subjects prior to prison. Supplemental episodes:

Episode 3 - On behalf of Crazy Hood Productions "HOODtalks Podcast". In this episode of HOODtalks Jae Havana talks with Hip Hop Recording Artist Aneraé VeShaughn also known as X-RAIDED. A former 24th Street Garden Blocc Crip, X-Raided was arrested in 1992 along with four other men in connection with a home invasion that turned deadly. The arrest came on eve of the release of his first solo album Psycho Active. X-Raided was ultimately sentenced to 31 years to life, of which he served 26 years before being released on parole. Some would say this was bigger than hip-hop and you might be right. But it was hip-hop among other things that kept Aneraé sane. Although he spent over two decades in prison that did not stop him from releasing over 25 projects, 13 of which being solo records. I had the opportunity to talk with Aneraé just a couple months after his release from prison and on the eve of the release of his 14th solo album “The Execution of X-Raided”. Here’s my conversation with Aneraé VeShaughn also known as X-Raided. This week Breadwin Deville gives DJ Cap1 the album The Execution of X Raided by Anerae VeShaughn and Cap1 gives Capitol Punishment by Big Pun. We also learn that Cap1 doesn't understand microphone placement so we hear a lot of noise coming from his end. We apologies about that and he has been punished severely.
Milkcrates&Microphones is back with episode 12 and In This Week In Hip Hop (TWIHH) November 9, 1993 A Tribe Called Quest released Midnight Marauders their third studio album. As we quickly learn, that wasn't the only classic album released around this time( WU Tang released Enter the Wu Tang(36 chambers). This sends us into the very undebatable fact that hip hop music has continued to regress with no sign or evidence of an eventual come back, so......we listen to X-Raided's new song "My Second Home" and matt gives us his honest opinion and we talk about our expectations of Raided's future music. You will also hear audio from "Secrets of a Mafia Hitman" an interview with a mask man named Joey. In our Local Artist Spotlight we take a listen to the Stockton based duo of Erupt & Deok. We check out the title track off their new record "Longevity". We also take a deep dive into the Battle rap scene past and present and if we like the modern format of pr-written promoted battles or the freestyle tournaments from the past. This sends us down a Mac Lethal path and we listen to one of his battles and songs.Plus the usual freestyles, song picks of the week, what grinds Matt's gears and is the podcast worthy of public access television?
On this very special episode 8 of Milkcrates&Microphones we are joined by a man that is fitness nutritionist, CrossFit athlete and all around good guy( that has also been know to spit a few freestyles from time to time), "Hulk" Logan Mayfield. After everyone gets settled in we start the show off like we always do with This Week In Hip Hop (TWIHH),Nonsense brings us up to date on the Suge Knight trial. We talk a little about NWA and then swerve off somewhere around talking about CB4 and listing to "Straight Outta Locash". X-Raided is out and living his best life we talk a little about that then listen to our favorite Raided songs. Everyone gives predictions for McGregor vs Khabib, and we talk about training and the dark places you have to go to get through some workouts. then Matt asks if anyone can get steroids.....for a "friend"! We take a listen to Tom Greens appearance on Sway, and we appreciate him actually freestyln'. So much so, we spit a freestyle and Logan joins Matt in almost crossing the line, actually he might of crossed it! song picks and so much more.
This week on the menu, we talk superstitions, National Burger Day and the New Joker movie. We also talk about the case of Isabel Celis, Mac Miller and Heinz Mayochup. We also chop it up about the new Captain Marvel trailer, U of A winning and ASU losing. And for dessert we talk X Raided finally getting out of prison and famous people we've met.. And this week on "Something New" we try the new Bacon Smokehouse Burger
