For the Thirteenth episode of There Is No Planet Earth Stories I'm  Join by guest Doc Martin  representing stories from San Francisco & Los AngelesWe discuss a range of topics including his formative musical experiences in San Francisco, the Los Angeles scene in the early 90's and various parties and residencies held in those years, as well as the evolution of his DJ, and music production career over the years, and much more.A product of the 80's San Francisco dance music boom, DJ/Producer Doc Martin has been creating innovative, high-energy electronic music for nearly three decades. Once a mainstay on the Pacific Northwest scene, he has gone on to perform everywhere from Ibiza to Tokyo, London and beyond, creating an enduring body of work in the process. Now, as he enters a new phase of his career, Doc shows no signs of slowing down, as he continues to evolve, revealing new sides of his artistry as he releases the most compelling music of his career.  Doc Martin's choice to pursue a career in music was an obvious one, given the musical family he grew up in. Most notably, his mother sang with Bay Area icons Jefferson Starship.Doc, however, was more interested in absorbing the various electronic subcultures that were emerging around the country. Endless hours spent in SF's indie record stores armed him with an expertise in everything from acid house to techno, as he developed the genre bending style that would come to define his career.  Within a few years of his first performance, Doc was selling out shows across his hometown, and began setting his sights on bigger things. In the early 90's, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he quickly integrated himself into the city's thriving rave scene. Not long after, his profile had risen enough for him to be invited to Europe to play at some of the continent's most iconic clubs and parties, including Fabric(Residency), Circoloco, The Rex, Panorama Bar, and Sunwaves to name a few,. In the ensuing decades, he became a favorite amongst audiences from New York to London, performing regularly at clubs including Output, Coachella, The Roxy, Twilo, City Fox, Space, Desert Hearts, Movement, and Lightning in a bottle After three decades of bringing people together with music, Doc Martin's passion and drive remain as strong as ever. He maintains a steady schedule of performances across the globe while continuing to release new tracks regularly. Lately, House Music has been crossing over into the mainstream, with the excellent Nic Fanciulli and Robert Courois track "Set Me Free" sitting atop Beatport's Top 100 and trending on many Spotify dance playlists. However, the song that's got us all worked up at Party Favorz is the opening track, "Let's Go" by Jaden Bojsen. This track is ripe for remixes, and while I've seen some floating around, I'm not certain if they're official. I'm calling attention to this song because it channels late '80s and early '90s House Music, perfectly setting the tone for most of this set. I fully expect it to feature on our next Dance Club set (dropping soon), as I want to push it hard. In the meantime, be sure to add it to your Spotify and Apple Music playlists. While this set sticks to our current House floor favorites, there's a good mix of Disco House and even some French House we're really into at the moment, giving it a nice balance. A personal favorite of mine is "Delicious" by Risk Assessment, which lifts the Acid House classic "Theme From S.E.X. Express," slows it down to a slinky 120 BPM, and throws in some classic Deee-lite riffs. If you know, you know. If you don't — you'll be into it soon enough. This set has been on heavy rotation in my car because I can't get enough of it. It just hits all the right notes, and I think even those who aren't typically fans of our Funky House series will enjoy it. That's all I've got for your weekend pleasure. Until next time…ENJOY! ‘Deee-lited' to be joined by one of my new favourite acts on the Synthetic Dreams podcast today, Nauti Siren, which features  multi-talented musician, Jessie Evans and DJ Dmitry, co-founder of the seminal New York dance group Deee-lite. Nauti Siren's music is a truly intoxicating mix of disco, reggae, new jazz and electro dub. Their excellent new single ‘Mermaid Of The Year' is out now, with their debut album to follow. Jessie has worked with some amazing musicians, including the late and very great, Steve Mackay, who provided saxophone on the first two Stooges albums and drummer, Budgie from legendary post-punk band, Siouxsie and The Banshees.    As well as discussing Nauti Siren, Dmitry also talks in-depth about the recording of ‘Groove Is In The Heart' and his time in Deee-lite This much-loved group enjoyed international success with their single, ‘Groove Is In The Heart', which Rolling Stone Magazine recently called one of 10 best dance tracks of all time.  It's a truly iconic track, which still gets played on the radio and in clubs across the world. No collection of popular disco songs is complete without a tribute to the French band Ottawan and their iconic hit "D.I.S.C.O." Originating in 1979, this song has been sampled numerous times, even being covered by N-Trance and The Young Professionals. An interesting piece of trivia is that one of the song's authors, Daniel Vangarde, is the father of Thomas Bangalter, one half of the legendary French house duo Daft Punk. This eighth volume of the series is released with a heavy heart, marking the recent passing of Irene Cara, the phenomenal singer behind the theme songs of 1980s hits like "Fame" and "Flashdance...What A Feeling." Cara, whose powerful voice and infectious energy left an indelible mark on disco, passed away at 63. This final volume is dedicated to her memory and her contribution to popular disco songs. Over the last 30 years he spent the majority of career designing iconic boardshorts prints and graphics for Quiksilver and Billabong. He created the Cosmic Creek Surf Contest and started the Dana Point Surf Club.
