Story of the Week (DR):Trump signed an order ending DEI. Here's what it means for Fortune 500 companiesTrump's latest presidential moves mandate government agencies to specifically target companies in the private sector engaged in what it describes as “illegal DEI discrimination and preferences.”Despite the intended chilling effect of these executive moves, multiple legal sources point out that Trump's order and action do not constitute a change in the law. Rather, the language used in the order simply “enforces longstanding federal civil rights laws,” says Britney N.D. Torres, senior counsel at employment law firm Littler.Trump's executive moves just mean that companies will have to continue to carefully review their DEI-related policies, practices and initiatives based on longstanding anti-discrimination laws, and make sure they can't be interpreted in a way that is different from what they intended, she says. This week in Davos, Jamie Dimon reaffirmed JPMorgan's DEI commitments after the National Legal and Policy Center, a conservative nonprofit, proposed the bank revisit how compensation is tied to the company's racial-equity goal. “Bring them on,” said Dimon referring to the efforts from right-leaning groups. “We are going to continue to reach out to the Black community, the Hispanic community, the LGBT community, the veterans community.”Will this ever trickle down to JPM leadership?15 on Operating Committee: 1 POC (an Indian man–Sanoke Viswanathan, CEO of International Consumer and Wealth–who came from McKinsey); 7/15 F though so some credit dueBoard: nearly 50% F but a woeful -21% gender gap; no leadership positions on board or top 3 committees: only committees where women have power are Public Responsibility Committee and Risk Committee; 11 on board: 9 WM and 2 BFCan we stop pretending board and shareholder oversight is a thing? Suoraa puhetta johtaa Maria Pettersson. Keskustelijoina ovat Kaarina Hazard, Ruben Stiller ja Taru Tujunen. Kaarina Hazard luonnehtii aihettaan kevyeksi, hauskaksi ja syksyyn sopivaksi. Kari Hotakainen on julkaissut "Helmi" nimisen romaanin, joka on Pirkka-kirja, jota myydään vain K-ryhmän kaupoissa. Tästä uudesta markkinointi-ideasta on tullut älämölöä. Eräs ruoveteläinen kahden miehen kirjakauppa ilmoitti, että he boikotoivat Hotakaista ja poistavat toistaiseksi valikoimastaan jo myynnissä olevat Hotakaisen aiemmat kirjat. Yksinoikeudella myymistä on paheksuttu monelta kantilta. Mitä arvon raatilaiset ajattelette asiasta? Onko oikein vai väärin, paheksutteko? Ruben Stiller tähyää aiheellaan jo tulevaan itsenäisyyspäivän juhlaan. Hän haluaa raatilaisten miettivän, minkälaista draamaa kansallisesta identiteetistä meille esitetään. Onko meillä tarvetta vanhan malliseen identiteettitarinaan, joka yhdistää meitä? Taru Tujusen puheenaihe kumpuaa Venezuelan presidentin päätöksestä aikaistaa joulu lokakuulle. Tiistaina pääministeri Petteri Orpo esittelemä ”Me puhumme teoin” -kampanjan on yksi hallituksen 23:sta yhdenvertaisuustoimenpiteestä. Perussuomalaiset ilmoittivat, etteivät osallistu kampanjaan. "Perussuomalaiset vetivät maton rasisminvastaisen kampanjan lanseeranneen pääministerin alta", kirjoitti Ylen politiikan toimittaja Matti Koivisto. Kansansuosikki Kari Hotakaisen uuden “Pirkka-kirjan” eli tuoreen Helmi-romaanin lanseeraus on aiheuttanut närää. Onko kirjan myyminen yksinoikeudella Keskon kautta eli käytännössä superemarketeissa tämä uusi tapa tuoda kirjallisuus suuren yleisön saataville vai vaarantaako se perinteisten kirjakauppojen elinvoimaisuuden? Brittirock-yhtye Oasis palaa keikkalavoille 16 vuoden tauon jälkeen. Mikä saa riitaisat Gallagherin veljekset palaamaan yhteen?

Finnish SOTKA is a large-scale habitat restoration project and a part of a larger Helmi Habitats Programme aimed at restoring Finland's biodiversity. It is run by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of the Environment. SOTKA's objective is large-scale habitat restoration through wetlands rehabilitation, restoration of mires and catchments, non-native (i.e. invasive) predator control and building a network of resting areas for waterfowl. It is also a great example of cooperation between hunting and non-hunting organisations for the benefit of nature. This type of cooperation is something I've always been a strong advocate of. So it was my great pleasure to invite to the podcast: Veli-Matti Pekkarinen, the Waterfowl Habitat Specialist from the Finnish Hunters' Association and Heikki Helle, the Wetland Specialist at BirdLife Finland.Listen to our conversation to learn more about SOTKA and Helmi projects. We also discuss the details of cooperation and specific actions that are undertaken to meet project objectives. I also enquired about the social perception in Finland of actions like predator control. Overall it was interesting to compare mindsets and attitudes in Finland with those in Ireland or the UK. Also, big shoutouts to Padraig Breen from NARGC who was instrumental in making this podcast episode happen. Currently, he serves as the CRO at Espressive.Keno discusses the importance of proof of value (POV) in the sales process. He explains that a POV is not just about validating the technology, but also about validating the business case. By setting clear success criteria and involving the economic buyer (EB) in the process, sales reps can increase the predictability of the outcome and improve their forecasting. Keno emphasizes the need for a champion to take the rep to the EB and highlights the importance of thorough qualification before engaging in a POV. He also shares best practices for running a successful POV, including defining objectives, setting clear success metrics, and involving the sales rep throughout the process. Keno concludes by discussing the importance of debriefing with the champion and presenting a comprehensive report or presentation to the EB after the POV.HERE ARE SOME KEY SECTIONS TO CHECK OUT[00:00:00] POC vs. POV: POC validates technology; POV validates both tech and business value.[00:05:19] Meeting the Economic Buyer is critical for authority and budget.[00:11:50] Don't do POCs too early; understand the customer's use case.[00:14:11] Champions expedite sales by taking you to the Economic Buyer.[00:18:17] POC should lead to a natural close, not put the customer in the market.[00:25:11] The go, no-go meeting with the Economic Buyer is decisive.[00:38:33] Share a comprehensive RFP or scoring template to guide the evaluation.[00:41:45] Leverage serendipitous visits from stakeholders to build additional champions.[00:43:29] Proactively bring in potential champions who may not be aware of the POV.[00:46:13] Actively engage during the POV, troubleshoot discreetly, and showcase successes.[00:48:16] Create a comprehensive report or presentation (Champion's Deck) summarizing technical and financial results.HIGHLIGHT QUOTES[00:10:28] "You want to do a P.O.V. to increase the predictability of the outcome, improve your forecasting, and potentially grow the business value of the deal."[00:13:25] "That person has earned the right to be called a champion and not a prospective champion. You do not have the right to call that person a champion until that person takes you to the economic buyer."[00:15:11] "You want to ensure that your test plan is going to be the scoring mechanism by which all vendors are evaluated."ADDITIONAL RESOURCESConnect with Keno: https://www.linkedin.com/in/keno-helmi-74779329/More on Espressive: https://www.espressive.com/ Engineer Your Strongest SKO Yet: https://forc.mx/46BipZB

Helmi's Shadow: A Journey of Survival from Russia to East Asia to the American West (U Nevada Press, 2021) tells the sweeping true story of two Russian Jewish refugees, a mother (Rachel Koskin) and her daughter (Helmi). With determination and courage, they survived decades of hardship in the hidden corners of war-torn Asia and then journeyed across the Pacific at the end of the Second World War to become United States citizens after seeking safe harbor in the unlikely western desert town of Reno, Nevada. This compelling narrative is also a memoir, told lovingly by Helmi's son, David, of growing up under the wings of these strong women in an unusual American family. Rachel Koskin was a middle-class Russian Jew born in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1896. Ten years later, her family fled from the murderous pogroms against Jews in the Russian Empire eastward to Harbin, a Russian-controlled city within China's borders on the harsh plain of Manchuria. Full of lively detail and the struggles of being stateless in a time of war, the narrative follows Rachel through her life in Harbin, which became a center of Russian culture in the Far East; the birth of her daughter, Helmi, in Kobe, Japan; their life together in the slums of Shanghai and back in Japan during World War II, where they endured many more hardships; and their subsequent immigration to the United States. This remarkable account uncovers a history of refugees living in war-torn China and Japan, a history that to this day remains largely unknown. It is also a story of survival during a long period of upheaval and war--from the Russian Revolution to the Holocaust--and an intimate portrait of an American immigrant family. David reveals both the joys and tragedies he experienced growing up in a multicultural household in post-Second World War America with a Jewish mother, a live-in Russian grandmother, and a devout Irish Catholic American father. As David develops a clearer awareness of the mysterious past lives of his mother and grandmother--and the impact of these events on his own understanding of the long-term effects of fear, trauma, and loss--he shows us that, even in times of peace and security, we are all shadows of our past, marked by our experiences, whether we choose to reveal them to others or not.
