Eve of 20th Ramadan 1446 AHMarch 19th 2025- Imam Ali divided his life into four phases, with a focus on his 25 years of silence, during which he worked the land to support his family and engaged in charitable acts. - He established numerous endowments (waqf) by cultivating land, planting palm trees, and digging wells to make barren lands arable. - His endowment deed was made purely for seeking Allah's pleasure, ensuring benefits for the poor, his family, and the broader society. - His properties in Yanbu, Wadi al-Qura, Daymah, Udhaynah, and Faqirayn were designated as waqf, with their revenues used for charity and supporting Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib. - Imam Ali appointed Imam Hasan as the custodian of the waqf, granting him full authority to manage and distribute its resources as needed, including settling debts if necessary. - If Imam Hasan passed away, the custodianship would transfer to Imam Husayn, with the same responsibilities and authority. - If both Hasan and Husayn were no longer alive, the next custodian would be chosen from Imam Ali's sons or, if necessary, from the descendants of Abu Talib or Banu Hashim. - The waqf properties could not be sold, gifted, or inherited, and only their revenues were to be used for designated charitable and familial purposes. - Imam Ali also freed several of his slaves, ensuring their welfare and sustenance for a transition period, and set clear conditions for their continued service. - He personally wrote and signed this endowment deed in 37 AH, ensuring witnesses were present to validate its legitimacy. Among the delegations that came to Prophet Muhammad was on e from the Christians of Najran after their chief chief bishop and his people were invited to Islam. They came to negotiate a truce with the Prophet. They offered terms that were unacceptable to the Prophet, and he invited them to a Mubahila, a prayer for divine curse upon the liars. The Prophet accepted, and a verse from the Quran was revealed telling each side to call their sons, women, and selves to invoke the curse. While the Christians brough all their leaders, Prophet Muhammad brought only his daughter Fatima, his cousin Ali, and his grandsons Hasan and Husayn. The Christians were struck with fear at seeing their luminous faces and did not go through with the Mubahila. The lecture goes on to discuss how this event highlights the importance of the family of the Prophet, comparing both Sunni and Shia views.Lecture notes available at http://www.why-quran.org/?p=742.Subscribe at http://www.why-quran.org/subscribe to watch the lectures live and participate in the Q&A at the end of each class.Video recording of this lecture + Q&A available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj9d6jaAWv0&list=PLpkB0iwLgfTat-Pgh4W3WFmupPamiC9UT.

TLDR;* Today, we remember Allah saving Prophet Musa from Firaun, making it a day of celebration. However, it's also the day Sayyidina Husayn ibn Ali, the Prophet's grandson, was martyred in Karbala. While we feel sadness, we balance it with the joy of Ashura as taught by the Prophet ﷺ.* Ashura teaches us to balance our emotions and understand that victory in the eyes of Allah may differ from worldly views. Prophet Musa's victory and Sayyidina Husayn's martyrdom both show different aspects of divine success.* Keep our brothers and sisters in Palestine in your duas. Pray for their victory and peace, just as Allah granted victory and protection to Musa and his followers.Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Today is Tuesday the 10th of Muharram, the day of Ashura, the most important day in the month of Muharram. And the best day in this month for us to fast. Rasulullah wa alihi wa sallallahu alayhi wa sallallahu alayhi wa sallallahu wa barakatuh. He mentioned that those who fast on the 10th of Muharram, Allah would forgive his past years sin. So if you are fasting today, alhamdulillah, congratulations. If you're not fasting today, there's another good deed that you can do. There's a hadith, narrated by Imam al -Baihaki. Imam al -Baihaki mentioned that those who spend for their family on this day, they treat their family well, Allah would make his provisions easy for the rest of the year. So even if you're fasting, take your family somewhere nice, spend some money on them. And if you're not fasting, then all the more, take this opportunity. And Sufyan ibn Uyayina, he said he did that for 50 years and he did not find anything but truth in the statement that he sees that his provisions are made easier for the rest of the year when he spent more on his family on the day of Ashura. So today is the day that Allah saved Prophet Musa from the tyranny of Firaan. Today is the day that Allah parted the sea for Prophet Musa. So today is the day of celebration. It's a day of joy. But something else happened, 61 years after Hijrah, 61st year of Hijrah on the 10th of Muharram is the day where the grandson of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Sayyidina Husayn ibn Ali was martyred, he and his family members, the family of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, were massacred in a place called Karbala. And because of that, some of our Muslim brothers and sisters would turn this day into a day of mourning. What is the correct position with regards to the day of Ashura? One important thing that we have to remember is that the foundations of our religion were built during the lifetime of our Prophet ﷺ. Sharia was completed with the passing of the Prophet ﷺ. Allah mentioned in the Quran:“Today I have completed your religion and I have perfected my blessings, my bounties upon you and I am pleased for Islam to be the religion.” So this ayah shows the completeness, the perfection of the Sharia. And the Sharia teaches this. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told is that today is a day of celebration, today is a day of joy because Allah saved Musa from Fir 'a 'u'll. However, as someone who loves the Prophet ﷺ, we cannot but love the grandson of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We love what the Prophet loves. We love what the Prophet tells us to love and Rasul ﷺ loves it. Husayn minni wa anamin Husayn, Husayn is from me and I am from Husayn. Allah loves people who love Husayn and Allah hates people who hate Husayn. So Sayyid al Husayn is someone that is dear to our heart. Someone that Rasul ﷺ would kiss, someone that Rasul ﷺ would pick up. Rasul ﷺ would allow him and his brothers and his son to play on his back while he was performing salah. This is the coolness of the ice to our Prophet ﷺ. How can we not feel sad on the day that he was brutally martyred and his family were massacred? Of course, we feel sad. We feel sad. But that sadness doesn't override the joy of the day of Ashurah that Prophet ﷺ legislated. We celebrate today because the Prophet ﷺ celebrated. We are not celebrating today because of the death of Sayyid al Husayn. No, Allahi. We celebrate today because Rasul ﷺ celebrated. But we have that balance of feelings. Of course, we will have that sadness in our heart because Sayyid al Husayn was massacred. How can we not feel sad? How can we not love the family of the Prophet when loving him is part, loving them is part of the teachings of our religion? Rasul ﷺ said the Quran and the family of the Prophet al -Bait will not separate until they meet Rasul ﷺ at the howl. There is a very, there is a Sahih Harid mentioning about this. and many hadith mentioning about the virtues of the family of the Prophet to the point that Imam Shafi 'i wrote a poem, he said, Ya ahl al -baitiyeh rasurillahibukumu O family of the Prophet loving you, fardum minallahi fil qurani anzalahu is compulsory and it is revealed in the Quran. Yaqfikumu mina al -gimil fakhri annakumu it is sufficient as a sense of great joy and pride for all of you manlam yusali aalaykum lassala ta 'laahu those who do not pray upon you there is no prayers for them, the prayers is not complete because according to Imam Shafi 'i salat on the family of the Prophet Allah wa salaam ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad on the family of the Prophet is an essential part of prayers. Your prayer is valid but incomplete without salat on the family of the Prophet Prophet prayers upon the family of the Prophet. This teaches us the nature of life. Rasulullah wa alayhi wa sallam He was very happy with the victory in the Battle of Badr but as soon as he returned to Medina he received the news of the passing of his daughter. He was saddened by it but he was joyous over the victory of Badr. This cycle of life teaches us that we should not be overjoyed in a state of hyper elation when we receive good news and we do not fall into the depth of depression when we receive bad news because life is a cycle. There are days that are going to be good. There are days that are going to be challenging. Sometime the good and the challenging happens in the same day. Ashurah teaches us that balance in our emotions. Another important lesson that we learn from the day of Ashurah is that the definition of victory in the eyes of Allah can be different from the definition of victory in the worldly sense from the human view. We look at how Allah gave victory to Prophet Musa by saving him from frown and defeating his enemy frown drowning them to death. That is something that history would record as victorious and Allah granted that victory. And then we have Santa Hussein. Santa Hussein was massacred. He and history will record that as a loss. But in the eyes of Allah, Santa Hussein achieved martyrdom. He achieved Shahada, one of the highest level of death. So that is a victory in the eyes of Allah because Santa Hussein and his family were steadfast on the truth remain on the truth on the straight path despite all the difficulties the tribulations and the challenges and the corruption of their time which led to their death. So them being steadfast on the truth which caused them in the end they're like lives, is a victory in the eyes of Allah, they attain Shahada. And this is important for us to redefine what is victory in our view. What is it that we want to achieve? What is important is we want to be victorious in the eyes of Allah. We want to be successful in the eyes of Allah. If it so happens that victory in the eyes of Allah aligns with victory in the eyes of human beings in history like Prophet Musa, Alhamdulillah. If it happens that victory in the eyes of Allah doesn't align with victory according to human beings like Sanah Hussein, so be it, we will always choose akhara first because Muslims are akhara centric when it comes to their worldview. So that's a brief lesson of Ashura, but I just don't want to leave with this point today on this very day. let's keep our brothers and sisters in Palestine in our Dua, especially just before we break our fast. Raise our hands to the skies and ask Allah that as Allah has given victory to Musa and his followers over Firaoun, that Allah would also grant victory to the Palestinians over the genocidal Israelis. And as Allah fed Musa and his followers with Manna and Salwa, Allah would save the Palestinians from the manufactured famine for being staffed by Israel and her allies. As Allah protected Musa and his followers from intense heat in the desert, we ask that Allah protects the Palestinians from the intense bombing by Israel and her allies. We ask that Allah grants victory and peace to Palestine and her people and we ask that Allah make us from amongst those people who contribute to this victory and peace of Palestine. This new series is based on the book Kitab al-Hikam. Through selected quotes and reflections, I hope to discuss how these insights provide clarity and guidance. There will be many themes to explore, such as trust in divine wisdom, the importance of inner tranquility, and creating a relationship with Allah. By connecting these teachings to contemporary issues—such as stress, uncertainty, global circumstances, and the quest for purpose—I hope each episode resonates with you in a unique way. - Abu al-Husayn reported: Abu Uthman al-Hiri, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “Companionship with Allah Almighty is to have good manners, to always be reverent, and to be mindful. Companionship with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, is to follow his Sunnah and adhere to the outward rulings. Companionship with the allies of Allah is to respect and to serve them. Companionship with one's family and children is to have good character. Companionship with one's brethren is to always be joyful and cheerful, unless there is sin. Companionship with the foolish is to supplicate for them, to be merciful to them, and to appreciate the blessings of Allah upon you as you have been kept safe from their trials.” Source: Ṣifat al-Ṣafwah 2/302 --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/islamicfeelings/support

GABE'S ADVICE: “You have to be practicing and you have to be consistently, consistently, consistently rehearsing that. I remember driving to work every single day when I was an SDR. My steering wheel was my best prospect. I was the guy like, “Who is that crazy person talking to himself on the way to work?” That was me because I was practice, drill, rehearse, practice, drill, rehearse. It's second nature. Again, preparing what to say and don't be lazy in language is super important.” TERRY'S ADVICE: “Business process map the processes the SDRs are taking a day, whether it's prospecting, demos, follow ups, or proposals for AEs. You have no idea how much time is wasted not selling. You also have all the tools. You likely have the Salesforce, ZoomInfos and Gongs and everything. You have the exact same tech stack that your competitors do, but your competitor probably is automated twice as much as you have. Take a look at your rev ops stack, look at what your team is doing. I guarantee you there's 50% plus more efficiency there that you just haven't even deployed.”

Dr. Nebil Husayn delivers a research seminar examining an early pro-ʿAlid epistle attributed to ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (d. 40/661) that defends his claims to leadership and critiques his rivals. The epistle emerged in the context of intra-army disputes after ʿAlī's companions were murdered. While the work survives primarily in Twelver Shīʿī sources like those of al-Qummī, al-Kulaynī, Ibn Rustam al-Ṭabarī, and Ibn Ṭāwūs, some Sunni historians like al-Balādhurī also referenced it, indicating early circulation. Dr. Husayn analysed both the transmission and contents of this epistle, interrogating the relationship between the oral and written and the text's role in shaping pro-ʿAlid identity and early Shi'ism.

Becoming Bani Adam: Exploring Twelver-Shii Discussions on Human Ancestry - Mizan Institute
This episode discusses the scriptural evidence or lack thereof for Adam having biological parents. In other words, is it possible that Prophet Adam (a), though the first full human being with all of humanity's metaphysical qualities, had biological parents or could have descended from an evolutionary tree? The main evidence against this lies in the discussion about the dhuhur or prima-facie meaning of the Qur'anic verse that compares Prophet Adam (a) to Prophet Isa (a) i.e. Jesus and his miraculous conception. Friday August 5, 2022 Muharram 7, 1444 The Virtues of Imam Husayn (Allah be pleased with him) and the Lessons of his Struggle
Fasting is supposed to be more than one-dimensional. It's supposed to be both external and internal, both physical and spiritual. When it comes to the sacred day of Ashura this coming Monday (8/8/22) - the day in the Islamic Hijri calendar that Moses and his people were saved from Pharaoh and his henchmen - in order to properly and fully benefit from it, a person must reflect deeply and reflect critically internally: am I treading the path of Moses or Pharaoh? And if the silent claim is that Mosaic footsteps are being taken, reflect even deeper: is that claim sincere and clear, or hypocritical and cloudy? This day also commemorates the day Sayyidna Husayn, the beloved grandson of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, was mercilessly martyred. Again, an instance between good and evil - similar to Moses and Pharaoh. He intended to tread a Mosaic path of justice vs injustice, and paid the ultimate price in the end. Moses triumphed through victory. Husayn triumphed through martyrdom. We love and learn from both. May God gather us with them in paradise.

There is a relationship which exists between Prophet Muḥammad and Imam ʿAlī which no other companion or family member of the Prophet has. Not only is Imam ʿAlī the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet, but more importantly, he is his spiritual brother in this world and in the next. He was blessed to marry the only daughter of Prophet Muḥammad and his two sons, Imams Hasan and Husayn would actually be referred to by Allāh in the Quran as the SONS of Prophet Muḥammad. How was their relationship in the early days pre-Prophethood in Mecca?
Continuing from Ibn al-Jawzi's "Sifah al-Safwah." On Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, aka Imam Muhammad al-Baqir.
This session covers a brief intro, al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, and Zayn al-Abidin Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib.
Shi‘ism is usually thought of in relation to the Middle East, especially Iran and Iraq. But India and Pakistan have a combined population of up to 50 million Shi‘ite Muslims. While venerating the sacred history of the battle of Karbala—where the third Shi‘i imam Husayn was martyred in 680 CE—these Indian and Pakistani Shi‘ites have developed their own rich regional traditions, especially in terms of ceremonies, buildings, and material culture. Such is the aesthetic and emotional appeal of these traditions that they have also attracted not only Sunni participants, but even certain Hindus, such as the centuries-old community of Husayni Brahmins. In this episode, we'll learn about the rituals, relics, and sacred sites through which the Shi‘is of South Asia and their non-Shi‘i sympathizers annually recreate Karbala in cities and villages across the subcontinent. Nile Green talks to Karen Ruffle (Associate Professor of History of Religions at the University of Toronto), the author of Everyday Shiʿism in South Asia (Wiley-Blackwell, 2021).
Islam's fourth caliph, Ali, can be considered one of the most revered figures in Islamic history. His nearly universal portrayal in Muslim literature as a pious authority obscures centuries of contestation and the eventual rehabilitation of his character. In Opposing the Imam: The Legacy of the Nawasib in Islamic Literature (Cambridge University Press, 2021), Nebil Husayn, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Miami, examines the enduring legacy of the nawasib, early Muslims who disliked Ali and his descendants. The nawasib participated in politics and scholarly discussions on religion at least until the ninth century. However, their virtual disappearance in Muslim societies has led many to ignore their existence and the subtle ways in which their views subsequently affected Islamic historiography and theology. By surveying medieval Muslim literature across multiple genres and traditions including the Sunni, Mu'tazili, and Ibadi, Husayn reconstructs the claims and arguments of the nawasib and illuminates the methods that Sunni scholars employed to gradually rehabilitate the image of Ali from a villainous character to a righteous one. In our conversation we discussed approaching early Muslim sources, the spectrum of anti-ʿAlid positions, Ibn Taymiyya's take, the rehabilitation of 'Ali, and the legacy of anti-ʿAlid sentiment within Sunni theology. Sulayman's underwhelming time in charge ended with a twist, and Omar ibn Abdulaziz proved to be a real surprise. The famously pious Umayyad had a vision for the umma, and he used his new position to impose an order unseen since the early, predynastic days of the caliphate. Although he is not covered in much detail, our sources roundly praise him for his courageous reforms and religious character courageous reforms. Glossary Ali ibn il Husayn ibn Ali bin Abi Talib: Ali Zainulabidin was the only (adult) male survivor of the Hashemite massacre at Karbala. He was too ill to take part in the fighting and the 21 year old was spared, as was his 4 year old son Mohammad. Many pro-Umayyad accounts exaggerate the grace with which Yazid received them in Damascus, trying to blame Ubaydallah ibn Ziyad for the travesty and portray the caliph as having been respectful of the prophet's clan. Zainulabidin was the first Hashemite who returned to his clan's clerical roots. He delved into religious studies deeper than any around him, earning his moniker, best of the worshippers. He died aged 53, and was succeeded by his son Mohammad as leader of the Hashemite clan. “Constantine”: by this point the emperor of Byzantium was a Leo III, a leader who would come to be known as a restorer of Byzantine power. He rose to power in a coup just before Sulayman's siege of Constantinople, and his defense of the capital against Sulayman's bungling invasion came just in time to save the empire from what would have surely been a mortal blow. While the caliphate was the more powerful of the two powers in terms military might and overall resources, Leo did well to keep his armies together, mainly by keeping them in fortifications and avoiding pitched battles. Still, it worked, and the Byzantines weren't the pushovers they were back in Abdulmalik and Walid's time.
