Australia's first coronavirus quarantine facility for COVID-19 patients is being sold amid a booming property market. Adelaides's black-carpet event for the $50m Mortal Kombat reboot was said to be “surreal but great fun”. Episode #21 Meet Jonny Pisanelli - Owner of Adelaides best bakery...Abbots and Kinney. After studying for 6 months at a Pastry school 20 year old Jonny felt he was limited in Adelaide, so decided to fly to Italy to work in the best bakeries. For free! He returned to Adelaide and started selling his bread and pastries out of his van on the side of the road, he knew he had something special so started selling at the farmers makers every weekend. He would sell out within a few hours! Jonny then opened his first Abbots and Kinney store in June 2015 in the CBD of Adelaide, where he baked every morning from the small on-site kitchen, it didn't take long for him to outgrow that space. He now has 4 stores and another opening this week. They have also been named in the Qantas Travel Insider as one of the top 23 bakeries in the world. I was lucky enough to visit Jonny in Adelaide just before their second lockdown. Once I reached out to him, he was more then happy to share his knowledge and spent several hours answering all the annoying questions that I like to ask. Thanks Jonny! We recorded this podcast through zoom. Although Quality is quite good but there is a few minutes where there is a bit of delay.
In May 2016, Kelly Cervantes and her family received two life-changing pieces of news: her husband, Miguel, had landed the starring role of Alexander Hamilton in Hamilton: An American Musical in Chicago; and their then-7-months-old baby girl, Adelaide, was diagnosed with epilepsy — and eventually, infantile spasms — a severe form of childhood epilepsy. She transitioned from being the family’s primary bread-winner to a stay-at-home mom and full-time caregiver. Eventually, she found her voice and purpose with the non-profit Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE), where she is currently a board member. The family hoped that science would catch up to their daughter…but that was not meant to be. Adelaide passed away due to complications of an as-yet-still-unidentified neuro-degenerative disorder…5 days shy of her 4th birthday, and just weeks before Kelly was to receive a WEGO Health Award for her contributions to patient advocacy blogging for Inchstones. In a demonstration of incredible resilience, Kelly made a public promise to her daughter: even though Adelaide’s battle was over, she would continue to fight for families affected by medically-complex disorders. By organizing fundraising campaigns, speaking at epilepsy events across the country, continuing her writing, and hosting CURE’s podcast Seizing Life, she makes sure Adelaide’s struggles were not in vain, and keeps hope alive for all the Adelaides to come. Her hope is that in publicly sharing her family’s journey with epilepsy and the real-life moments that come with parenting and grieving a special needs child, other parents in similar situations will learn they are not alone. Tune in as Kelly shares: how Adelaide was initially diagnosed as an infant that Adelaide’s longest stretch seizure-free was three months long that in 30% of epilepsy patients, seizures are intractable despite intervention that 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime that while certain types of epilepsy can be rare, epilepsy itself is not that there is a lot of stigma attached to the diagnosis — especially for adults why NOT to call an ambulance when you see someone having a seizure that epilepsy is always a symptom of something else: from TBI (traumatic brain injury) to genetics the need for more funding in epilepsy research how she acted as an advocate for her daughter how she learned to speak medical jargon to be taken more seriously by Adelaide’s doctors the importance of mental health support in the grief journey that Adelaide also had MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) alongside her epilepsy — and her epileptologists often saw these comorbidities occur together why research gives her hope the importance of documenting seizures with video
One of Adelaides leading sports massage therapist, Paul Zbierski, boasts of an incredible wealth of experience dealing with Olympians, martial artists, an 8 year stint with the Adelaide 36ers, a team he almost played before his battle with injuries and then also spending some time with the Adelaide Jets Water Polo team. Paul talks about how his journey through sports, played a vital role in the growth of his therapy business.

On this episode of Climbing With Scars I talk to one of Adelaides youngest and aspiring entreprenurs, Daniels Langeberg. Daniels is the owner of EcoCaddy, an eco-friendy transportation service. Daniels has had one of the most inspiring and grinding stories I have heard from an entrepreneur and aims to leave a huge legacy behind. To hear more of Daniels story tune in to this weeks episode of Climbing With Scars.
Listen to the sketch on YouTube here!: https://www.youtube.com/embed/lh-RE9fHc8s Hey Everybody! Thanks for tuning in! Maybe you even did it from TuneIn Radio, which is great because you can tell Alexa that you want to hear our show just by asking for it! For this episode, I established that I really wanted to find interesting people for the podcast. In my humble opinion, there is no one I know more interesting than my friend Adelaide. Adelaide spent 20 years of her life traveling and not having a permanent residence, so she has a story about literally everything. EVERYTHING. Whatever the subject matter, she has some twisted thing that happened to her, or that she witnessed, or that she witnessed happening to someone or herself or… you’ll understand once you get into the episode. She is absolutely lovely and I think you will really enjoy getting to know her, I know I have. Did you know that that the nicest thing you can do for a podcast is to give it a really great review? In fact, let me give you an example of a really great review right here! This comes from chipnico on iTunes: “Pretty Fun Show (5 stars) Fun sketch comedy podcast. Not your normal podcasts. Cool to hear different sketches and really good production value.” I can’t disagree! And now, enjoy episode 8 “The BEST Accommodations” Adelaide is a friend of Stuart’s that is really interesting. Adelaide is having a bad day because of the girth of a refrigerator. Stuart got the benefit of Adelaides’ amazing neighbors… they are ridiculously wonderful neighbors. Feeding multiple birds is much better than killing multiple birds. Stuart’s neighbors are not as wonderful and his back deck was christened with a golden shower. Adelaide is amazed about what gets on tv. Adelaide does not like the term “terrorist”, but she might have been in Nicaragua training people that might be known as “terrorists”. Borat as a movie hit a little too close to the mark… Adelaide may have dated him. The amount of dollars you spend on a place to stay is DIRECTLY related to how nice of a place you are going to stay. Nothing like a bunch of old men staring at your shower door. Adelaide’s dog piss story is, indeed, a better story than Stuart’s. Evidently the cash crop for the world… eggplant. Stuart hears about Adelaide’s story and suddenly wants to jump off of a building. Period blood has many uses. The Lord’s work is all about taking kids or something. There is nothing better than using one’s own poop to craft a weapon… something Minecraft hasn’t used yet! We dare you to eat corn after this episode. Has anyone gone to the college with the “banana slut” mascot? Stuart was prom king (humble brag). Olive Garden on prom night! Adelaide was in a beauty pageant, but had to bow out because nature called. Graduations make people feel proud of themselves and sometimes that is okay! This week’s sketch is about finding a good place to stay when you are out of town on a budget. Not only will it save you money but it might also save your sanity!
