There has been a lot of hype around Japanese superstar slugger Munetaka Murakami, as he was posted this offseason. With his posting nearing expiration, many are wondering which MLB team might make a move for the first baseman, or if there is a chance that he might not sign at all and stay in Japan for next season. On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about the fascinating posting of Murakami and why teams like the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Seattle Mariners, among a few others, could be a suitable fit for his services. They then get into the flurry of transactions that have gone on over the past few days, including Jorge Polanco going to Queens, the Philadelphia Phillies picking up Adolis García and an update to the Scott Boras Scoreboard.Later, Jake and Jordan take a look at a couple of rosters for the World Baseball Classic, including the superstar power on Team USA and why the Dominican Republic squad is loaded on offense. They then ask a few questions pertaining to each team that could help them figure out which team could come out on top in the 2026 edition of the tournament. 1:14 – The Opener: Murakami signing soon31:40 – Predictions for his landing spot36:36 – Around the League57:09 – Scott Boras Scoreboard update1:02:02 – World Baseball Classic: Team USA roster1:11:09 – A look at Team DR Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

On this episode of Just Wondering, Norm Hitzges sits down with longtime Texas Rangers beat reporter Evan Grant to examine one of the most pivotal offseasons the franchise has faced in years. With Bruce Bochy and Mike Maddox gone, Skip Schumacher stepping in, and payroll reductions looming, the Rangers must decide whether they are still building to contend—or preparing to reset. Evan offers candid insight into the front office's thinking, the financial squeeze tied to TV revenue losses, and what roster changes may look like—from Adolis García and Jonah Heim, to a potential move involving Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, or even Jacob deGrom. They also tackle whether the Rangers' offensive philosophy has stalled, how Josh Jung and Jake Burger fit into the new approach, and whether the organization can finally develop its own pitching. Along the way: cat diplomacy, rescue dogs, and a little baseball soul-searching. A thoughtful and revealing conversation for any Rangers fan wondering what comes next. On today's episode: Act I: THE BIG STORIES (0:54-2:51): Remember when the Dodgers let Trea Turner walk after the 2022 season? He seems to take it personally. The former Dodger hit a grand slam and singled twice in the Phillies' 10-1 win over Los Angeles on Tuesday. Turner is now 12-for-29 with two homers and seven runs scored in seven games against the Dodgers since joining the Phillies. Speaking of hot hitting, Reds rookie Rece Hinds finished a single shy of the cycle in Tuesday's win over the Rockies, making him the first player since at least 1901 with five extra-base hits in his first two games. Hinds has put on quite the display of power, hitting a 449-foot homer in his debut Monday and a 458-foot shot for an encore on Tuesday. Over in the AL East, the Yankees dropped the series opener against the Rays, falling to 5-15 in their last 20 games. Where do they go from here? Act II: WHIPAROUND (2:51-4:52): Chris Sale recorded his MLB-leading 12th win with a strong outing against the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings while striking out nine. The red-hot Rangers have run their winning streak to a season-high five games, using a late homer from Adolis García to beat the Angels in Anaheim. Act III: LOOKING AHEAD (4:54-6:56): After a rainout Tuesday, the Show-Me Series -- the battle between Missouri's two MLB teams -- begins Wednesday when the Royals visit the Cardinals for a doubleheader beginning at 1:45 p.m. ET. With both teams in playoff contention, it has all the makings to be a compelling matchup.
