Psychological safety is crucial for organizations to thrive, contributing to talent retention and overall success. Companies that create a culture of psychological safety outperform those that do not. Join Susan Finch and Rob Brodo to continue their discussion on leadership simulations. Creating a psychologically safe environment requires leaders to establish trust and make employees feel comfortable taking risks, challenging the status quo, and expressing their concerns. It involves treating everyone fairly and focusing on building self-esteem and recognition. To be a better leader and foster psychological safety, Rob Brodo suggests five key actions: creating a stable and predictable environment, providing employees with options and choices, ensuring equity in treatment, understanding employee desires and needs, and establishing a foundation of trust. Repairing trust can be challenging but is possible in certain situations. It requires open communication, difficult conversations, and the leader's judgment on whether the person can be trusted again. Building trust also involves maintaining a respectful environment and avoiding mockery or humiliation. Advantix offers simulations and programs on psychological safety that cater to both large and small businesses. These simulations provide self-reflection, learning, and action-planning opportunities to enhance leadership skills and create psychologically safe workplaces.
It's happened: In late January 2022, an astute veterinarian in Mount Isa diagnosed the first locally acquired case of the tick-borne disease, ehrlichiosis, in a Queensland dog. As predicted the disease is making its way south, and we want to make sure that you, like our Mt Isa vet, are able to spot and treat ehrlichiosis when it comes knocking on your door. Which, in all likelihood - it will, regardless of where you are in the country. This episode is a composite of two episodes that we released over the past two years on the Vet Vault Clinical podcast. Part one was released in 2021 soon after the disease first made its appearance in Western Australia in 2020. We speak to Dr Paolo Pazzi - a medicine specialist from South Africa where ehrlichiosis is an endemic disease and is commonly seen in practice. This episode covers the clinical aspects of the disease and aims to ensure that you don't miss these cases and to give you a guide on how to manage them. In part two we speak to Dr Katy Davis, who works in Karratha in Western Australia where the outbreak started, and Professor Peter Irwin, THE guru in all things vector-borne disease. They give us an update on the situation in Australia, and the message is clear: it's here, it's serious, and it's not quite the same disease in Australia as it is in countries where the disease is endemic. We talk about what you can expect, what to do and how to test when you see your first case, and we clarify some of the confusion around disease prevention. See it as a ‘how-to' guide for Australian vets. Thank you to Elanco Australia for supplying us with the expertise to help us clarify preventatives. Check out their tick preventative products, including the tick repellents Seresto and Advantix, as well as a new monthly chewable isoxazoline, Credelio, that will sort out you patients against tick paralysis, but as you'll hear, NOT ehrlichiosis. Do they have empathy? Do dogs have a sense of humor? You may be surprised at some of these answers. Listen Now Counterfeit Flea Medication The latest break in the counterfeit investigation came after a California man admitted in federal court that he had been selling unregistered and smuggled animal pesticides online for 15 years. The phony products were sold at pet shops in every state. Authorities say the phony products were labeled with well-known brand names, such as Frontline and Advantix, and entered the legitimate pet pharmaceutical marketplace without any detection whatsoever. The counterfeit medication even ended up in some big name chain stores as well. Listen Now Bill Forces Pet Stores To Only Sell Shelter Pets California is looking to take a stand against puppy mills. If Assembly bill A.B. 485 is passed, the bill would enact a statewide ban on the sale of puppy mill pets in pet stores, allowing only adoptable pets from legitimate shelters and nonprofit rescues groups. Animal advocates say by passing the bill, it will enable California to cut off the supply of inhumanely bred puppies and prevent consumers from unwittingly supporting puppy mills. Dawn Howard -Dog behaviourist from Dogs D’azur is our guest host this week. You may remember Dawn from an earlier episode 12 http://www.rivierafirefly.com/12-dawn-howard-from-dogs-dazur-aka-the-fairy-dogmother/ also on 106.5fm Riviera Radio’s “Woofer of the Week” broadcast every Wednesday morning around 8.15am She shares her top tips for a happy dog. Here’s what you should be doing throughout the year to keep your dog in good shape. Keep in mind no one knows your dog like you do - so it’s important to keep an eye on them for signs of unusual behaviour and for any niggles go straight to your vet. DOG MOUTH You can buy a special toothbrush and toothpaste from your vet and it’s a great idea to start when they are puppies so they get used to it. Aim to do this once a week. Problem symptoms to look out for include: salivating or pawing at the mouth or signs of pain while chewing as well as bad breath. DOG EYES It’s a good idea to clean around your dog’s eyes regularly too – how often will depend on breed. But for matted or sticky eyes or a foreign body – a trip to the vet is essential. DOG EARS Regularly make sure nothing is lodged down there or that they are dirty. Again, this is one to start early, while they are young – and your vet will love you as it will desensitize them. Symptoms include: shaking the head, or scratching, or a head tilt. How to move an injured dog. move the dog away from any immediate danger make a temporary stretcher from a flat board, car parcel shelf, a towel, blanket or coat Get a second person to help you get the dog on to the stretcher while supporting the dog, avoiding bending its spine. Take care to be as gentle as possible EMERGENCY NUMBERS Clinique Vétérinaire des Clausonnes open 24/7 900 route de la Valmasque, 06560 Valbonne Tél: 04 93 65 40 54 Urgent Vet Service number is 0800 948 484 REFUGES - RESCUE CENTRES http://refuge.duflos.pagesperso-orange.fr https://www.refugeduflos.fr/ They need: Donations Tinned dog food – preferably Cesar “senior” + pedigree the one with the sauce Medium-sized leads and collars Washing up liquid, bin bags and sponges These guys operate a great scheme whereby you can take them all your small change – get collecting today! What's It Like To Be A Dog? Neuroscientist Gregory Berns managed to put several dogs into an MRI machine to scan their brains and try to understand how they think and feel. Do dogs have emotions? Do they have empathy? Do dogs have a sense of humor? You may be surprised at some of these answers. Counterfeit Flea Medication The latest break in the counterfeit investigation came after a California man admitted in federal court that he had been selling unregistered and smuggled animal pesticides online for 15 years. Dog Friendly Breweries The website TripsWithPets.com has unveiled its brand new list of dog-friendly breweries across America. It joins their lists of dog-friendly restaurants, beaches and other attractions, along with airline and car rental policies for pets and pet friendly vacation activities. For example, did you know there are whale-watching trips, excursions mining for gems, wine tastings and apple picking activities for you and your pet? Bill Forces Pet Stores To Only Sell Shelter Pets California is looking to take a stand against puppy mills. I Spent A Night At A Dog Hotel What's it like to be the only human staying at one of the most luxurious dog exclusive resorts in the United States? Cathy Alter finagled her way into an 8 million dollar pet hotel for the night. She reveals her experience to us. Read more about this week's show.
