The petrochemical industry has traditionally been slow to adopt new technologies, often hindered by legacy systems, risk-averse cultures, and scattered data. However, as global competition and sustainability pressures mount, companies like Nova Chemicals are turning to digital transformation to drive operational efficiency and sustainability. Nova Chemicals recognized the untapped potential in its decades of operational data and began its digital journey with a bold vision. By leveraging advanced tools, such as AI-driven predictive maintenance, the company has revolutionized its approach to reliability, maintenance, and operational performance. NovaChem's strategy involved carefully piloting digital solutions on redundant equipment to mitigate risks and build confidence, leading to transformative value—four times the initially estimated impact. In this episode, I speak with Ahmed Musa, Digital Transformation Leader at Nova Chemicals, who shares insights into how the company has structured its digital initiatives through its Digital Factory and corporate priorities. From overcoming challenges with legacy data systems to fostering a culture of innovation through “Nova Nature,” Ahmed reveals the actionable strategies and lessons learned on NovaChem's digital journey. What impressed me the most was how digital tools not only reduce costs and emissions but also empower employees, enriching their roles with data-driven insights. About Ahmed Musa Ahmed Musa is an experienced Digital Transformation Leader with a deep background in chemical engineering. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and has extensive practical experience in reliability, maintenance, and turnaround management. Since joining Nova Chemicals in 2014, Ahmed has been highly involved in the company's digital transformation initiatives, focusing on leveraging AI, data contextualization, and advanced analytics to enhance plant reliability and operational efficiency. In this episode of the podcast, I preview our upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic taking place on Thursday October 7th at the Teslim Balogun stadium with the squad announced last week including 1st time call ups for Rangers left back Calvin Bassey & Union Berlin hotshot striker Taiwo Awoniyi who's been rewarded for his excellent start to the season in the Bundesliga and UEFA Conference League for Union Berlin. Frank Onyeka and Kevin Akpoguma are also back in the squad after missing out in September after both tested positive for COVID 19 then. Awoniyi scored a brace on Sunday for Union Berlin away to his former club Mainz to go along with his goal in the UEFA Conference League earlier in the week on Thursday taking his tally to 8 for the season in just 11 games Kelechi Iheanacho got his 1st Premier League start of the season on Sunday away to Crystal Palace and justified his selection by scoring his 1st Premier League goal of the season on his 25th birthday so hopefully we'll see him retain his starting spot going forward Maduka Okoye was unlucky to be on the losing side after making 9 saves in Sparta Rotterdam's 2-1 away loss to high-flying PSV Eindhoven & Ahmed Musa also grabbed an assist for Fatih Karagümrük as they romped to a 3-1 home win against former champions Istanbul Basekshir If you have any questions or topics you would like discussed on the podcast, we'd love to hear from you using the hashtag #NigeriaFootballWeekly via our social media channels below or send us an email.

Arsenal put more pressure on Sunderland's manager David Moyes with an easy win over a side who are yet to win a Premier League match this season. Manchester United has midfielder Ander Herrera and manage Jose Mourinho sent off as they couldn't find a way pass Burnley's goalkeeper Tom Heaton - despite their 37 efforts at goal. Manchester City climbed back to the top of the Premier League in style after seeing off West Brom to end Pep Guardiola and Manchester City's run of bad form. Leicester City left the White Hart Lane with the first away point in the Premier League this campaign as Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa pulled Leicester level to secure a well-deserved draw. Liverpool moved level with Manchester City and Arsenal on the Premier League table after an exciting victory at Crystal Palace. Everton ended their run of five matches without a win with a victory against a poor West Ham side who remain close to the relegation zone.
