The waiting list is officially OPEN for the Ritual Retreat, our first international experience that will be in Costa Rica from November 6 - 13, 2023! Hello, future ancestors! Lately I've been in sloth training, and that means slowing down while learning how to still feel safe doing so. It's been over three months since I've returned from my sabbatical, and coming back to Los Angeles was a lot to take in after being unplugged. And so many of you may know that I ended up spending time on a farm watching over nine goats, five chickens, five cats and two dogs for my friend Montez as she was out of town. I tried to use that time to refocus on coming back strong, but instead I preferred to hang out with the goats. I would highly encourage you to listen to my last solo episode about lessons in farm sitting if you'd like to hear more about that experience. And what many people don't know is that I actually left the farm to work at an event in Florida where I was asked to help coach a training for about 100 aspiring speakers. But I ended up with Laryngitis that whole entire week. Main topics discussed: Scaling a business: is it worth it?Finding congruency between hedonism and spiritual livingTrusting that less is more as a collective desireHow to release responsibility for other people's sufferingWhy I'm hosting an international retreat centered on storytelling and sensuality The waiting list is officially OPEN for the Ritual Retreat, our first international experience that will be in Costa Rica from November 6 - 13, 2023! Join Jumakae and friends for a week immersed in the Caribbean coast and rainforest alongside other women and gender expansive folks as we reconnect with ourselves as a future ancestors through mindfulness, movement, and the power of storytelling at the Goddess Garden.
In this episode of Your Story Medicine, I am with Karissa. She supports families in documenting the beautiful milestones of life as their personal biographer. Karissa's intention with her camera is that her subject, whether it be a family, an entrepreneur or a woman giving birth feels seen. Much more than a collection of moments, photographs become part of a family's historic archive. And as a creative entrepreneur, Karissa has supported small businesses with strategy, branding, and marketing. Her creative nature and personal journey have led her to incorporate energy healing, meditation, sound healing, and other personal healing modalities into her work. And more importantly, Karissa is the one person I have trusted into the sacred spaces I've created for my own students, my own clients with the retreats that I have facilitated. So if you are curious, who it is that takes my photos and takes the photos of my clients and then comes to the retreats to capture this magic, it is this woman, Karissa. Main Topics Discussed: The Importance of doula work in communities of colorGrief after giving birth and acknowledging emotionsBalance between documenting moments and being present in the momentCombining passion for photography with doula workThe Importance of Rituals in Rest and Connecting with Self Conclusion: Balancing work and personal life can be a struggle. It's important to acknowledge and respect your own needs in order to live harmoniously. Action Integration: Give yourself permission to feel the things that come up for you. It's okay to not be okay. And it's okay to invite people to come in and help support you with love and compassion. In this episode of Your Story Medicine, I welcome Jayda Shuavarnnasri, aka “Sex Positive Asian Auntie”, a Queer Southeast Asian sexuality and relationship educator. She works to liberate folks from sexual shame by creating space for authentic conversations about sexuality, relationships, identity, and healing. Main Topics Discussed: How Thai and Buddhist culture influences sexual expression in womenUsing sensuality to reach liberationHow to fall in love without falling into a co-dependent patternDefining “solo polyamory”Getting clear on what intimacy means to us Conclusion: We all could learn more about what intimacy means to us. We can't just be pouring from our overflow. We also need space to deepen our well. Without stillness, we eventually end up pouring from a shallow cup. In what ways are you making the space to dig deep so that, when we pour, we're not just operating from a place of service, from a desire to deepen our relationship with ourselves. Action Integration: To choose silence is to choose oppression. Show up as a badass ancestor in the making and shift the story for your future lineage. Hello future ancestors!! Welcome back to Your Story Medicine, episode one of season 3 If you are new to my work, welcome. I am June also known as Jumakae - which is a combination of my first, middle, and last name. My medicine is supporting future ancestors like you with finding clarity in your message and confidence in your speaking so that you can share your story, grow your legacy, and heal generations before/after you. And as your dedicated life doula, I hold space for the contractions that arise in your body as you begin to birth a new story for your life. I am just returning from my first ever sabbatical, where I completely shut down my calendar for the past six months to explore this question of “Who am I when I'm not in service?” Episode Highlights: Phone or flight? Disconnecting from technology to reconnect with my medicineLessons learned from being stuck in Peru during a political lockdownIntegrating from my first ayahuasca experience in the jungles of Costa RicaUnderstanding what it means to be bodhisattva I have some incredible guests that I'm excited to bring on this season, where we will dig deeper into plant medicine, ancestral healing, and entrepreneurship as sacred activism. You don't have to be an entrepreneur btw, but at least can be mindful of the individuals and resources that are available to support you with being rooted in times of change. We are retiring my 12 week signature program, Roots to Rise, to birth other sacred offerings that are going to require more of my time and energy, such as my own retreats, ceremonies, and workshops. Instead, I am only running ONE mentorship program this year, Bud to Blossom, which is my six month mastermind to support changemakers, visionaries, and healers with scaling their existing offerings. This is especially helpful for those who already have a service, such as a private therapy, consulting, or coaching practice, and are now wanting to expand their medicine to include retreats, speaking, and workshops while learning how to get paid for it. People are craving in-person experiences now that the pandemic has eased out, so let's make that transition together. I also love working with educators and professors who are ready to teach their wisdom outside of formal institutions while creating a sustainable model to make that happen. We are in the process of unlearning to learn, while divesting resources to where it is we choose. And while I can help people with creating a profitable and ethical business plan, what's most important to me is that we FEEL abundant beyond the numbers in our bank account. I'd rather financial abundance be the byproduct of us living in alignment and integrity with our values. And if you'd like a taste of what this can look like, then sign up for my upcoming free upcoming workshop on “How to Birth Your Sacred Offerings,” happening on Thursday, March 16 where I'll teach you how to create a blueprint of possibilities that's aligned with the seasons of nature - which has allowed me to take winters off cuz I just notice that my body doesn't like to work at that time. You'll also get a replay to my last two workshops, How to Connect with Your Ancestors and Finding Clarity in Your Medicine — and all of these are going to be available until Bud to Blossom begins at the end of April. So if you are in the season of receiving support to water the seeds you've been planting, then I invite you to apply to Bud to Blossom which will be the only way to work with me closely this year.
Hello future ancestors, I know it's been a while - but I definitely have some updates on life and so many things that are unfolding, or better yet, unraveling. As many of you know, I started Your Story Medicine with a deep curiosity about how to connect with my ancestors especially as someone who was born and raised in the United States, away from my parents' homeland and the kind of village support they were raised with. In my previous solo podcast episode I announced that I would be taking a sabbatical for the remainder of the year to tend to my wellness and to reconnect with my own ancestors. My intention was to return to Thailand to study with Homprang, the traditional midwife that originally taught me womb healing when I was propelled into this path after being fired from my nonprofit job in 2017, and I was so excited to be a student again. The last time I had been back to my motherland was before Your Story Medicine was even birthed which happened at the peak of my Saturn Return five years ago. You can listen to my first episode ever to hear more, since this is what essentially sparked my path into ancestral reclamation and entrepreneurship. I essentially created the very space I needed at that time of my life, in a predominately white industry that was abundant with cultural appropriation and misrepresentation. I thought that returning to Thailand this time would be a way for me to be reminded of my medicine, but spirit clearly had other plans for me. And In this past month, my life has taken a very different turn. Main Topics Tasting my own bitter medicineNarratives that repel us from allowing love and abundance inResourcing my nervous system from the ways it has been interruptedConnecting with my ancestors through my elders Your story medicine is a small family business, and I thank you for being a supporter, whether you've listened to this podcast or have been a client that has trusted me with your stories. In the meantime, I invite you to subscribe to our email list if you're not on it yet by going to yourstorymedicine.com where you'll be the first to know about my return and upcoming offerings, or follow me on Instagram @jumakae where I'll rarely be posting nowadays. Hello, future ancestors… and happy Lion's Gate Portal that just recently passed. I'm just returning from my very first wilderness backpacking trip ever! If you listened to my last solo podcast episode about my time in Channel Island entitled: “Emergence: Reflections from a Post-Apocalyptic World”, immersing myself in nature is where I feel the most abundant. And it's more than just pitching a tent, but the pilgrimage that it takes to get there. The days and months of training my mind and body for these experiences so that I can enjoy those evenings around the fire with a belly full of rehydrating food and laughter after a long day of trekking makes it all worth it. On the days where I just didn't want to move my body leading up to this, I remembered the greater destination ahead - and so “one foot in front of the other” became a mantra to affirm that these small steps would eventually move from one mile to a hundred - or in our case, 25 miles. It's also transferred into my personal life and legacy as I have a lot of time to clear my mind on these walks without any distraction. Every time I've left, I come back feeling rejuvenated in my purpose and commitment to decolonization: Where indigenous people worldwide are at the center of these stories, where my connection to the cosmos deepens, and where my desire to care for Mother Earth strengthens. After all, it's where we all will return when we become ancestors: back to stardust and soil. ✨ Main topics discussed: Reflecting on the impermanence of lifeHow often do you take time to meditate on deathAnger as an indicator of something that is not in alignmentHow you were able to forgive versus holding on to guilt, shame, and resentment.Becoming masterful at tending to your fires. By the way, my sabbatical is coming up in a month and before then I'll be hosting a mixer on Saturday, August 27 for anyone that I've had the privilege to work with. I've hired my photographer, Karissa of Olive La Vida, to capture people in their medicine and we'll also have some other alumni offering their medicine, from sound healing to tea ceremony and a dinner provided by Plantberri - who also catered our retreat. Spots are limited and this will also serve as my going away party so I'd love to see you there. Nisha's lived experience, clinical experience, fascination with language, collective mindset, and passion for connecting with others combined with her anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and feminist beliefs are central to her work in this space. Main Topics Discussed: Stopping ourselves from treating self care as merely “after-care”Setting the right boundaries in order to cultivate healthy relationships with loved onesDiscovering and embodying your core valuesHow the Care Bears perfectly illustrate collective care in actionSeeing all of our feelings, including negative emotions, as opportunities for growth Learn more about Nisha Mody: Visit her website: www.nishaland.com Follow her on Instagram: www.instagram.com/healinghypegirl

Gary uses the power of applied improvisation and other playful methods to assist people in unlocking creativity, confidence, and better communication. Gary was recently featured as one of the Top 100 HR influencers of 2021 by the Engagedly HR software platform. Main topics discussed: Questions that have kept me up at nightThe risk of negative feedback in running an online business and being very visibleWhat the Chumash people of Limuw (Channel Island) taught me about Emergent StrategyLiving in a modern day post-apocalyptic worldHow colonization shows up in me Questions to other healers, space holders, and coaches that are using entrepreneurship as sacred activism. Who has a say when it comes to providing feedback to our services? Is it paid clients only? Is it a community? Is it anonymous strangers on the internet that claim to have been triggered by what was said? Are triggers an indicator of something that is wrong, or an invitation for further introspection? What is considered harm anyway? Do other people actually cause harm, or is it self-inflicted when we create narratives in our mind about other people's intentions that actually don't have anything to do with us at all? Am I gaslighting myself? How much healing is actually the responsibility of the individual who was harmed vs the person who supposedly caused harm and what is the community's role in achieving some form of justice? What is community anyway? Are you still listening? Who gets to be the expert of decolonization? Should I refrain from even using it as a non-indigenous person to this nation? What are the ways colonization has played out outside of the United States? How does US imperialism still impact other countries? What is white supremacy's role in the ways we experience lateral violence and oppress one another as people of the global majority aka people of color? What about colonization that existed prior to European conquest? Where and how does the colonizer show up within me? Am I conflict avoidant, or am I just protecting my energy? These are some of the questions that have kept me up at night, hence why slowing down and taking a big fat sacred pause has been a necessity for my own mental and spiritual health. And sometimes, the answers are the questions themselves. Email me at hello@yourstorymedicine.com or send me a message on Instagram @jumakae. Hello future ancestors! Welcome to another solo podcast episode of Your Story Medicine. I'm your host, Jumakae - and I wanted to expand on what it means to charge for your worth. If you were not at my last workshop where I dug deeper into this, one of the things I mentioned is how it is inherently problematic to even talk about charging for our worth. Why? Because your worth is priceless. Your value cannot be quantified. If we are equating our self worth to our net worth, then we will continue to allow the numbers in our bank account to reflect how it is we feel about ourselves. And that, my friends, is a symptom of internalized capitalism… Now, is capitalism a bad thing? As someone who came from communities that identified as anti-capitalist, I made the mistake of believing that money is evil and bad. I know I said that I would be dropping episodes every other week to honor spaciousness, but I felt so called to share my experience of facilitating my most recent retreat with you that took place in Joshua Tree, CA - land of the the Serrano, the Cahuilla (Kuhweeah), the Mojave, and the Chemehuevi people prior to settler colonialism.. And it just so happens that our retreat took place when Aries entered the New Moon. While I'm no astrologer, I was told that the significance of this time is that it's a transition or closure of events that took place last year in June and July. As we sat around the fire, tears welled in my eyes reflecting on what my life has been like in these past nine months, like a baby literally being reborn. Main Topics Discussed: How does the journey of reconnecting with our ancestors reward us with life and relationships beyond our wildest imaginationReleasing the need to compartmentalize yourself, and embracing how multidimensional you can beGetting scorched by fire: the season of consuming information is done I encourage you to go to www.yourstorymedicine.com to binge on the other episodes, where we've now categorized them based on topics, so that you can begin your journey of remembrance and reclamation today. Welcome to Season Two of the Your Story Medicine podcast. I am your host Jumakae, and my medicine is supporting change makers, conscious entrepreneurs, and radical healers in finding clarity in their message and confidence in their speaking. I want you to be able to share your story, grow your legacy, and heal generations before and after you! Main Topics Discussed: The beauty of entrepreneurship and sacred activismHow we can leave behind a legacy once we become future ancestorsThe truth about “self-care” and finding time to rest I have been processing a lot about what “seasons” mean to me. I have just completed a workshop for the California Faculty Association called Dreaming as Strategy: Envisioning Ourselves as Future Ancestors. I stayed up late the night before putting together PowerPoints last minute (which I rarely do, by the way) because I felt like I needed it in order to prove that I was a professional or that I knew my stuff. And as fate would have it, when it came my turn to present technical glitches happened to where I had to rely on my story medicine. And without any script, I just shared, from my heart, the story of my time as a community organizer, working in transformative justice after I was released from my job as a rape crisis hotline counselor when I was in the nonprofit world. But even when I was doing transformative justice work, I felt like there was something missing. If you're not on my email list yet, I would love to gift you with one of the very first meditations I created, where we call upon our chosen ancestors. I'll be sure to leave a link in the show notes. Your feedback is an absolute gift, and I will see you in the next episode. You can email me at hello@yourstorymedicine.com or send me a message on Instagram @jumakae. Welcome to our final episode of Your Story Medicine, the podcast, at least for this season and to what this will evolve into. We shall wait and see because December is the season of rich rest. So if you are listening to this episode, I hope that you are also carving out this time of the year to intentionally reflect on how much of the growth that you have experienced and the lessons that have learned and the stories that you get to compost as well as the new ones that you get to create for the next year. And I hope that we can all walk into 2022 feeling well rested and acknowledging how far we've come. Because it's so easy to focus on what we haven't accomplished, and where we're supposed to be in life or maybe telling ourselves a story that we're behind. Versus recognizing that there is some version of you from not that long ago that prayed for exactly what it is you have today. So take a moment to really count your blessings and be in such deep gratitude that you are here. You've made it. Main Topics Discussed: What is self trust? How is it that we can move from independence to interdependence? The beauty of being a part of a community See show notes and full transcription here: https://www.yourstorymedicine.com/blog/ep-56-interdependence-why-self-trust-is-not-enough Sign up for our weekly stories: www.yourstorymedicine.com Follow June on Instagram @Jumakae and our podcast @yourstorymedicine Subscribe to my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/jumakae Email me: hello@yourstorymedicine.com Apply for Bud to Blossom Mastermind : https://www.yourstorymedicine.com/budtoblossom

Instead of looking to hire coaches or mentors all the time, learn to trust the voice within yourself. And your best voice comes through when you're at the zero point when you feel good and at home in your body. In this solo podcast episode, I discuss about: What does the season of Rich Rest mean?Other ways for us to live in abundance beyond the numbers in our bank account.Embodying abundance and letting go of the scarcity of timelines. So lately I have found myself going into a spiral of comparison of what everybody else is doing or how much they're making all the ways that they're putting themselves out there, and here I am feeling like I'm not doing enough. And recently I met with two other friends with small businesses that have made multiple six figures, but … they haven't taken a vacation in years. So while their businesses have been a financial success, there has yet to be time carved out for them to actually enjoy the financial abundance that they called in. And when I was reflecting back on my year, it has definitely been the most abundant. Did I hit multiple six figures? No, but it was actually by choice. Because I had to sit and ask myself, what is it that's going to make me feel most abundant versus what is it that's going to make me the most money? Do you have to be fully healed to be a healer? And how do you emerge from what may feel like the dark night of the soul?So I'm currently sitting in my childhood bedroom looking at the pile of over 10 years worth of accumulated things before my eyes. Lately, I haven't had very much motivation to organize or put things away, questioning whether or not it's even worth it when the future feels so uncertain. Because while I've had the biggest income thus far in my business already surpassing over six figures in half the time as last year, and serving the most amazing clients around the world - what people don't often see is the human behind the healer. How do you show up to share your offerings when you don't always feel good, and when it feels like life is getting in the way of the quantum leaps taking place? This week, I'm sharing some personal updates as I balance being a spiritual entrepreneur, a daughter of immigrants and elders with new responsibilities, and the fragility of love. In this episode of Your Story Medicine, I reflect on the week I recently spent in Tulum, Mexico. Now, what comes to mind when you think of Tulum? Yogis? Pretty beaches? Sacred sites? Selfies of pretty people in pretty spots? For real; Tulum was on the list of places I wanted to visit because of how beautiful I thought the photos were! As well as to pay reverence to the sacred sites and the spirituality of the land. After a week spent at a business retreat with one of my coaches, Melissa Ruiz, I am reminded of how much of a façade social media can be. While I can only speak for myself, it just breaks my heart to see how much gentrification and colonization I see of this land. Now, I used to be one of those tourists with the big backpacks that have made traveling for the fun of it a part of their lifestyle. But now that I'm older and have my own business, I've become more interested in hearing about the history and culture of a place directly from the locals. I love trying to get a glimpse of different lands through the eyes of the ancestors who lived on those lands. .How to further our connection: Visit my website: www.jumakae.com Connect with me on Instagram: www.instagram.com/jumakae Connect with me on Facebook: www.facebook.com/jumakae Subscribe to my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/jumakae Email me: hello@yourstorymedicine.com

Aloha from the beautiful Island of Oahu. I am currently here in Hawaii, where I was actually supposed to return home a week ago. But I decided to extend my trip by at least another week. And while it can be so easy to simply see the highlight reels of my life, soaking up the sun, being at the beach, hiking, snorkeling with sea turtles, all the things, it's important to also know that being here is actually a big challenge for me. Because I'm so used to being in the role of somebody who gives and is holding space for others that I am still learning what it's like to hold space for myself to be safe with allowing myself to receive so that I can pour from my overflow. So I wanted to specifically talk today about comparison, as the thief of joy. For many of us who are stepping into our medicine and our sacred offering, it could be so easy to get into the loop of, “ Oh, so and so is doing something similar to me or I will never get there because they have far more experience and a lot more confidence than me.” Well, guess what? A lot of the people who you look up to have had to go through these initiations themselves and are constantly going through it. Access to you is an expensive privilege, because what has been poured into you goes beyond money. There's time. There's energy. There's all the ways you've worked so hard to create healthy boundaries so that you can live your life in peace. By the way, the more you choose to assert these boundaries, the more people are going to want to test them. These are people who are coming from a place of lack and scarcity who are going to want to pull you down to their level. And the more you spend your time trying to defend or prove yourself, the more taxing that is going to be in the long run. But if you are able to practice this and to intentionally pour into the life you want to create and the type of people who light you up, who value what you have to offer, the more you are going to attract those very things, and the more time we spend actually celebrating what it is we have and celebrating each other. That energy gets amplified for all of us when you win, when I win, we all win. It just means that it is possible for even more of us to step into these frequencies. Energy is going to grow where your attention goes. So where is it that you are going to choose to deposit your energy? And if you find yourself being around people than places where you constantly feel like you got to prove yourself or you can't take up space or you can't win, because if you do, that makes other people feel less than, then it is time to shift your surroundings because you are not responsible for other people's misery as much as you are for their joy. You can only be responsible for you. She believes grief is a portal to wholeness. Through rituals and storytelling, we can reconnect to our origins and be our wild selves. She sees the path to being whole as a radical art and political practice. Roshni speaks to us about how witnessing racialized trauma and its lasting impact on the health and wellness of communities of color—first in early childhood then as a palliative care nurse in the U.S.—drove her to launch Cardamom and Kavate. Her mission? To reimagine what it means to rebirth ourselves, embody our radiance, connect to our ancestral rituals, and live in our pleasure Learn more about Roshni and her offerings: Visit her website: www.cardamomandkavate.com Follow her on Instagram: www.instagram.com/cardamomandkavate
