The more Gwinnett County detectives dug into Bart Corbin's life and history, the more convinced they were that the forty-year-old dentist wasn't just responsible for the death of his wife, but also for the death of his girlfriend nearly a decade and a half earlier. For two years Corbin denied any involvement in the deaths, insisting both women had killed themselves. Then, just days before his trial was to begin, he shocked everyone by pleading guilty to both murders in exchange for two life sentences with the possibility of parole after fifteen years.Thank you so much to David White for research assistance :)ReferencesAtlanta Journal Constitution. 2006. When Gwinnett County sheriff's officers responded to a call about a shooting at the home of Dr. Barton Corbin on the morning of December 4, 2004, they discovered the body of the doctor's wife, Jennifer Corbin, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Within a few days, however, investigators learned some things about Bart Corbin that led them to believe that the thirty-three-year-old mother of two may not have taken her own life. Today's show focuses on attachment and bonding. Some parents feel immediate love and connection with their new baby, but for many, they struggle to achieve a “normal” bond. The good news is that there are specific steps parents can take to understand the basics of attachment and bonding. Join us to learn more! Beth Warren is a psychotherapist in private practice in San Diego, California. She has a passion for reproductive mental health and has worked in this field for over 20 years. Beth is certified in EMDR therapy and Perinatal Mental Health, specializing in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, and infertility. She has worked in both hospital and outpatient psychiatric settings and has led postpartum support groups for new mothers. She is a current member and previously served as the President of the Board of the Postpartum Health Alliance, a nonprofit organization in San Diego dedicated to promoting awareness of Perinatal Mental Health. In addition to working as a therapist and EMDR consultant, she facilitates trainings and is a regular speaker, lecturer, podcast/radio guest. She has written a newly released book called The Pregnancy and Postpartum Mood Workbook, which helps new parents navigate their emotions and build skills towards mental wellness through their journey of parenthood.  Show Highlights: The fundamental basics of bonding and attachment How bonding includes feelings of warmth, connection, protection, and responsibility that unfold over time How traumatic births can delay feelings of bonding and attachment How a disruption in attachment from your childhood can play out to delay bonding with your own child How an anxious parent can have an effect on how that child grows up and then parents their own child—and why they might want to parent differently How culture and community can play into parenting because of our experiences in life Why parents have to heal themselves in order to be good parents and break multi-generational patterns How perinatal mood and anxiety disorders can cause delayed bonding, but the good news is that parents can keep working on it How the feedback loop happens as a new baby grows and develops to interact with his parents Why mirror neurons are vitally important for babies to learn from their parents How therapy can help parents learn what they are doing well even when they don't feel the bonding with their baby that they want How Beth works with parents to help them think about what their baby “would thank them for today” How words of affirmation and encouragement can make all the difference for an anxious mom Beth's advice for parents to promote bonding and attachment: Talk to your baby during every chance for interaction. Add singing and other motions with eye contact to help them imitate you. “Wear” your baby in a sling to keep them close to you and practice skin-to-skin touch when possible.  Why some parents have the distorted belief that their baby doesn't like them or they are a bad parent when they don't understand how bonding unfolds over time How positive quiet-time intervention can help the struggling parent How Beth's new book, The Pregnancy and Postpartum Mood Workbook, has suggested bonding and attachment exercises Resources: Bethany Warren LCSW   Find Beth on Instagram.  I have been a runner for almost 39 years.  My parents were both very active and encouraged me to try many sports.  My mom ran (often with me) and cycled.  My dad cycled and ice skated.  Although I have a serious lack of coordination due to issues with my ears and 13 surgeries on them, I have enjoyed many sports through my life this far - ice skating, cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, golf, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, canoeing, kayaking, SUP to name a few.  However, running has always been my first and longest love.   I ran competitively for Mohawk Valley Community College where I became an NJCAA All American in the 5,000 meters in outdoor track in 1987.  I transferred to Syracuse University on a partial scholarship and ran Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track.  After graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, I lowered my running mileage to work full time and pursue an MS in Manufacturing Engineering from Syracuse.  During this period, I became a cancer survivor by beating cervical cancer.   At age 30, I renewed my running with a goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon.  I have qualified for Boston 15 times and run the race 6 times with my most notable race in 2013, the year of the bombing where I finished 10 minutes before the bombs went off.  My next goal was to win a marathon and run a sub 3:30 marathon.  Both goals were realized in the same race with a 3:25:53 in 2008 at age 41.  I then spent a year studying to take a test to get my Profession Engineering license.   On a whim with a bunch of running friends in NY, I started learning to swim and bike in early 2010 with the goal of finishing a sprint tri before the swim cut off.  That first year, I did 6 tris, including Ironman Syracuse 70.3 and was hooked on the sport.  Since that time, I have done 3 full Ironmans, a 3/4 distance Ironman and 11 half races and love the long distances.  I have been fortunate enough to proudly represent Team USA at Worlds races four times in both Standard Duathlon and Long course Triathlon.  My best finish so far is 9th.   I enjoy group rides with the Triad Triathlon Team, training with my friends and traveling the world for work.  I am fortunate to have a husband that not only supports my crazy races (often with one eyebrow raised) but he is an extremely, even more weathered, talented triathlete as well.  We enjoy "friendly" competition at races together.  He beats me solidly at shorter races while my run gives me an advantage at longer ones.  I believe that I am a much stronger, more well rounded athlete in my 50's than when I was younger.  For example, I ran my first ultra this year at age 53 and once in a while can still win a 5k (last week)!  I am a firm believer that anything is achievable, age is just a number.

We spend time reflecting on how she has overcome injury, her time spent at the Boston Marathon the year of the bombing.  She is a fierce competitor that continues to balance the “win at all cost” with valuing her long term success as she has aged.  She is very detail oriented and her use of setting new goals as she ages provides a target to go aim for and to shatter.  I hope you enjoy.

That can be in places like retail, in museums, commercial properties or theme parks. The short form for the group is ACE, and it was pulled together and somewhat driven by the Digital Signage Federation - notably past and present board members like Kim Sarubbi, Beth Warren and Laura Davis-Taylor. One of the early efforts from ACE has been a monthly series of online discussions about important topics, that pull together top people from member organizations. The most recent one was about connected experiences now and post-COVID, as we all all hope there is soon a post-COVID. I was the moderator for the discussion, and this is the audio track, which is roughly one hour. The trade association AVIXA is running a series of digital signage "Power Hours" that are designed much more as roundtable discussions than webinars. I've been moderating them, and while they are available for playback on demand via AVIXA's YouTube channel, it's a conversation that works well as just audio. This session was on the new demands out there for technology-driven access controls, and messaging for retailers and other venue operators who are slowly re-opening to a new normal. I stripped out the presentation the guys from Invidis did at the front end of the hour, since they do refer to visuals. This is the conversation, which featured: Beth Warren from CRI Jay Leedy from Diversified Ben Reynolds from Stratacache Chuck Lewis from Palmer Digital Group Florian Rotberg and Stefan Schieker from invidis.   Subscribe to this podcast: iTunes * Google Play * RSS

However, without mindfulness, many people remain unmotivated to continue eating well after their diet ends and ultimately regain any weight lost. Beth Warren, a dietician and “kosher girl,” relates her experience with dieting to her Jewish upbringing, noting that keeping kosher requires the same discipline as sticking to a diet plan. She explains how setting a daily intention and simply being cognizant of what you eat can make the difference between a successful or failed diet. Listen as Beth joins Dr. Taz to discuss her 21-day intuitive eating plan.
