Greetings Glocal Citizens! Hello from Londontown, where I find myself officially starting my summer antics for the 2026 season. And where I've found inspiration for this week's compilation episode. From an early episode with crime writer, Leye Adenle, to last year's conversation with activist and social entrepreneur, Lavinya Stennett, we'll hear a range of Pan-African perspectives on how London is local for these guests--all of which happen to also be writers. Serial entrepreneur, investor and author of We Don't Need Permission: How Black Business Can Change Our World, Eric Collins shares perspectives as an immigrant from the US to the UK. Lawyer, international development consultant, journalist, politician and author of Love Does Not Win Elections, Ayisha Osori helps us to understand home as presence. Award-winning author of Easy Motion Tourist, with a forthcoming new series due to launch this year with Fall From Grace, Leye Adenle shares about his London before experiencing it as a writer. As a lux-preneur herself, award-winning luxury business consultant, Elizabeth Solaru, author of best-selling book, Opulencia and LUXpreneur: How to start and build a successful luxury brand, is taking us along in her experiences transitioning from a career in the sciences to business. Architect, artist, and multi-faceted creative, Robertson Ahomka-Lindsay shares how his talents from design to music helped to give his London life an artisic flair. And finally, founder of The Black Curriculum, fimmaker and author of Omitted: The Untold Black History Lessons We Need to Change the Future, Lavinya Stennett helps us to understand effective organizing techniques for impact. If you haven't already settled in, mind the gap and take a seat on this Tube ride through London. Where to find full conversations and show notes from episodes with this week's guests? In this episode, we explore the idea of “omitted truth” as part of our Sustainable Faith series. Looking at Matthew 28, we reflect on how easy it is to reshape or soften truth—both in our stories and in our faith—to protect ourselves. But when faith is built on partial truths, it often crumbles under life's hardest moments. What does it look like to embrace the full, messy truth instead? This conversation invites us into a more honest, resilient faith—one that can hold doubt, pain, and hope all at once.
Call It What You Want is presented by Zillow. Jimmy Conrad, Tony Meola, and Jonathan Bornstein unpack Mauricio Pochettino's 27-man roster for the upcoming friendlies (04:38). The crew discusses the primary objectives of the March camp before diving into the midfield and forward lines (24:52). Gio Reyna gets Jonny's seal of approval, Weston McKennie's position is a question mark, and Patrick Agyemang gets another look (29:01). The guys analyze the notable roster omissions - who will make way if the likes of Tyler Adams and Alex Zendejas become available in June (41:19)? The guys discuss the newly unveiled USMNT's World Cup kits, and Tony reflects on the team's horror when the denim kit was presented to them in 1994 (51:23). I'm not a financial advisor; nothing I write in Superpowers for Good should be considered investment advice. You should seek appropriate counsel before making investment decisions.Devin: What do you see as your superpower?Emil: My superpower, I guess, would be. I don't quit. I don't. I don't give up. Losing is not an option. It's not in my vocabulary. I go and get it done.Emil Nnani, founder and CEO of Boaz Bikes, a direct but small competitor to scooter giants Bird and Lime, focuses on driving social impact with safer vehicles and by serving underserved communities. He also works cooperatively with the municipalities where the company operates in Michigan, Arizona and Texas.“I started it when I saw somebody fall off a Bird or Lime scooter in mid-2018,” Emil explains of the company's genesis. He started by adding seats and widening the scooter deck to lower the center of gravity. Bigger wheels to overcome larger obstacles helped.“We put turn signals and side mirrors [on the scooters],” Emil says. “And we're still the only scooter company out there that has the turn signals and side mirrors on their vehicles.”“You'll see people are riding with one hand; they're holding their laptop bag or backpack or purse or something with their other hand,” he says of another safety risk. “It's not safe at all. So, putting that basket on every single vehicle so you can put your stuff in it so you can ride hands-free is a life changer.”Another goal for the company is to address social equity. Boaz Bikes addresses this in two ways. First, the company offers 50 percent discounts to anyone on any type of government assistance. Second, the company services neighborhoods and communities that the big companies ignore.Today, Boaz Bikes is raising money with a crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. The company has previously raised about $1.5 million via crowdfunding, plus additional investment from other investors. In this work, five years after its founding, Emil sees his superpower as perseverance and demonstrates how that has made a fundamental difference in the company's success. AI Episode Summary* Devin Thorpe interviews Emil Nnani, the CEO and founder of Boaz Bikes.* Boaz Bikes is a new alternative to the traditional scooters found in cities.* Boaz Bikes was created to solve the safety problem associated with scooters.* The design of Boaz Bikes makes them safer than traditional scooters, with a lower center of gravity, an open deck, larger tires, turn signals, side mirrors, and a basket for personal items.* Boaz Bikes also focuses on equity, offering discounted rides for people on government assistance and ensuring access to transportation for underserved communities.* The company works closely with communities, obtaining permits and stationing hubs in areas with transportation needs.* Boaz Bikes is currently raising money on Wefunder.* Emil's superpower is his persistence and refusal to quit.* He shares his own experiences and uses them as examples to motivate and coach his team.* Emil's family and the investment already made in Boaz Bikes were his driving forces during a challenging time in his effort to raise venture capital in Silicon Valley. How to Develop Perseverance As a SuperpowerLaunching a successful startup is evidence of a real superpower. Emil shares the story of its challenging beginning:When I started Boaz back in 2018, I bootstrapped it, so I self-funded it with the little cash that I had. I built the app, built the first prototype, and went out to Silicon Valley trying to raise capital. I mean, I sent my pitch deck probably to like a thousand people. I messaged everybody I possibly could on LinkedIn. I would go to these offices. I'll find the offices in San Francisco, and I'll go to these offices and try to get in and set meetings. It was the end of 2018, and nobody would meet with me. I spent maybe four days there, spent all of my money already on the prototype and building the app and the platform–so little, little money left. I drove there with the prototype in my back seat, and they wouldn't meet with me. Nobody. Nobody would meet with me. It was horrible. I tried everything. I tried sneaking up in the elevator but couldn't get through. I mean, it was devastating. I had to drive all the way from California back to Texas with no investment whatsoever. And at that point, I just knew I was done. It was like, I tried. You hear these stories about people going to different areas, and then they're giving it their all. And then you hear these success stories, and it didn't happen for me. But on that ride back, I didn't give up. I got back to Texas and opened up the first family and friends round, and I raised $350,000. So yeah, I could have given up after that huge failure in San Francisco, but I didn't.Emil highlights the need for a powerful “why” to strengthen your perseverance. Omitted from the story above, he admits, is that his wife and daughter were in the car for the trip. They served as a decisive motivating factor for his refusal to quit.By following Emil's example, you can strengthen your own resilience so you can persevere through the challenges you face. With practice, you can make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Guest-Provided ProfileEmil Nnani (he/him):CEO, Boaz Bikes IncAbout Boaz Bikes Inc: Boaz Bikes is a trailblazing micro-mobility company dedicated to revolutionizing urban transportation. What You Need to Know is the January 6th Select Committee has been selective about what they allow to be seen and what video snippets they show to control the narrative, brainwash the country, and endanger the protestors. They have deleted videos and gotten rid of whole sections of the investigation, because they aren't concerned about the facts. They're concerned about making a political witch-hunt. Wrap Up: What you need to do is continue to nurture the distrust and verify model of American life. These institutions are unworthy of our trust. A recent Wall Street Journal article describes CIA fitness endeavors, which is fine and good, but why do the CIA higher ups feel the need to spend their time bragging about this to the press? It's Tuesday, December 27th, A.D. 2022. This The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Indonesian Grinch tried to steal Christmas The Grinch showed up on Java Island in Indonesia over the weekend. Christmas celebrations were effectively banned in the Maja district, by one high-level official, the head of Lebak Regency, Iti Octavia Jayabaya, reports Morning Star News. She told Christians they would have to hold their celebrations in another district, some 12 miles away. The area is made up of 1% Christians, and the rest are predominately Muslim. According to Open Doors, Indonesia is the 28th worst country in the world for the persecution of Christians. Nigerian Muslims killed 46 Christians Muslim extremists killed another 46 Christians on raids on Christian churches in four Nigerian villages a week before Christmas. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has steadfastly supported the Nigerian government through some of the worst persecutions in Africa's history. Plus, the U.S. has excluded Nigeria from its religious freedom violations list of “countries of particular concern” for two years now. The Catholic News Agency noted that President Biden welcomed Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to the White House two weeks ago, despite the ongoing bloodshed, forced abortions reportedly implemented by the Nigerian military, and other atrocities tolerated by the government. Yakubu Kundi, a Nigerian bishop, has denounced “a deliberate plan to unleash evil” on Christian villagers. Proverbs 24:24-25 speaks to this. “He who says to the wicked, ‘You are righteous,' him the people will curse; Nations will abhor him. But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them.” Biden omitted the name of Jesus in Christmas message It's somewhat unusual for American presidents, but President Biden did not mention the name Jesus in his Christmas message to the nation this year. He spoke of the Muslims, Hindus, and other religions, and noted that Christians believe the child in the manger was the son of God. Listen. BIDEN: “How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given. There's a certain stillness at the center of the Christmas story. Silent night. When all the world goes quiet. And all the glamour, all the noise, everything that divides us, everything that pits us against one another. “Everything that seems so important really isn't. It all fades away in the stillness, in the winter's evening. And we look to the sky, to a lone star, shining bright then all the rest, guiding us to the birth of a child, a child Christians believe to be the Son of God.” By contrast, in President Donald Trump's 2020 Christmas address, he noted that Christmas was a time to “celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.” TRUMP: “More than 2000 years ago, the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary he said, ‘Do not be afraid you have found favor with God.' The angel told her that ‘you would give birth to a baby boy, Jesus, who would be called the Son of the Most High.' Nine months later, Christ was born in the town of Bethlehem. The Son of God came into the world in a humble stable. “As Christians everywhere know, the birth of our Lord and Savior changed history forever. At Christmas, we give thanks to God, and that God sent His only Son to die for us and to offer everlasting peace to all humanity.” And, in President Obama's 2015 Christmas address, he told everybody, that “our family celebrates the birth of Jesus and the values He lived in His own life.” Snowstorms killed 55 people nationally The Christmas storm of 2022 will go down into history as one of the most severe snowstorms ever. At least 57 people are reported dead nationwide, reports NBC News. New York was hit the hardest, where 25 persons, who were made in the image of God, have lost their lives. New York State police were involved in at least 500 rescues — a state that received up to 43 inches of snow. Most of the victims were found in or around stranded cars. Residents in Buffalo, New York may still remember the great blizzard of 1977, which resulted in 29 reported deaths. Olympic Committee committed to men competing against women The International Olympic Committee has issued a new set of transgender guidelines, which still allows for participation of men, who are pretending to be women, in women's sports competitions. While encouraging the typical modern moralisms of “inclusion,” the “prevention of harm,” “non-discrimination,” “fairness,” “no presumption of advantage,” and the “primacy of health and bodily autonomy,” the committee will leave the final decision to the governing body of each sport. American life expectancy dropped The Centers for Disease Control has released numbers for life expectancy in the U.S. Sadly, the government recorded another drop of over half a year from 2020 to 2021 for males and females, reports Forbes. Males now average 73.5 years, down from 76.3 years in 2019. That's a three-year loss in two years. Females have dropped off from 81.4 to 79.3. That's a 2.1-year loss in two years. Moses' estimate for longevity from Psalm 90:10-12 will not need to be adjusted much after 3,400 years of human history — despite medical improvements. He wrote, “The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. So, teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Canadian scientists discovered two more of God's minerals And finally, scientists from the University of Alberta have discovered two more minerals God created, in a meteorite that dropped on Somalia — discovered in 2020. The 15-ton meteorite is the ninth largest found on Earth. The researchers have named the newly discovered minerals Elaliite and Elkinstantonite. There are about 2,000 known minerals on Earth.
