Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland unpack the continued fallout from the Alex Murdaugh trial, and the four new felony charges for former Clerk of Court, Becky Hill. They dissect the charges against Hill, clarifying that she faces misconduct, obstruction and perjury allegations... but not for jury tampering, despite Team Murdaugh's narrative. The hosts reveal how Hill seemed to embrace the attention, and how 'Backstage' Becky's actions, like charging high fees and allegedly showing sealed photos of victims' bodies to media at a party, raised all sorts of alarms. Did the Murdaugh defense team see Hill as an "easy target" to base an appeal on and what was the role of attorney Joe McCulloch, present throughout the trial for... a screenplay? And what was the complicity of media members who viewed sealed evidence... Will there be consequences? We hope so. Despite these issues, we strongly believe Alex Murdaugh received a fair trial, and question the credibility of anyone alleging that jury tampering occurred. Plus, we address the P. Diddy federal sex trafficking trial and why transparency matters. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Episode References“Murdaugh clerk of court Becky Hill facing perjury, misconduct charges” - CourtTV, May 14, 2025

Nobel Prize-winning dramatist Harold Pinter's London premiere of his debut, ‘The Birthday Play' was detested by most critics - on 19th May, 1958. Set in a mundane seaside boarding house, the play initially lures audiences in with a naturalistic facade, before plunging them into a perplexing, uncomfortable narrative. Critics lambasted the production for its nonsensical dialogue and lack of clarity; lines of attack which were not eased by Pinter's lifelong refusal to offer explanations. The sole exception was a positive review from The Sunday Times's Harold Hobson - but this was printed after the show had already been pulled. In this episode, The Retrospectors explain how Pinter's play nonetheless left a lasting impact on British theatre; reveal who ‘Betrayal' was REALLY about; and attempt to quantify the value of the Pinteresque pause... When Nick Cave was in his early band The Birthday Party, he was angry and antagonistic toward his audience. The legendary Australian musician, writer and actor eventually grew out of his youthful contempt, but he remained consumed by his work, always putting it first before anything else. Then he lost two of his sons. In this wide-ranging conversation about grief, ambition, God and Johnny Cash, Nick tells Tom Power how he was forever transformed by his experience of unimaginable loss. He also discusses his new Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album, “Wild God,” and the mysterious origins of his songwriting.

Hallie and Katie have a lot to unpack after Katie's most recent dive down a Reddit rabbit hole, where the mom-of-two stumbled upon an interesting question: "When do you regain your life after having children?" The moms weigh in, explaining that they don't think women ever regain their former life. Instead, they are learning that happiness comes from embracing the change and making space and time to invest in yourself in spite of the chaos. The moms also give their two cents on toddler birthday parties after one mom asked if they are a waste of money. The topic is top of mind for Hallie, who is in the thick of planning a joint birthday party for her soon-to-be 1-year-old daughter, Collins, and soon-to-be 3-year-old daughter, Dylan.Hallie also shares a dream come true moment she shared with her daughters this week while Katie has some words of encouragement for any mom facing a challenging chapter with their children. Check them all out and let us know how you like them. Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay analyzes the first movie in the newest Planet of the Apes franchise. 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes started off as it's own story, not connected to the idea that the originals created. But it soon became obvious that it was much more complex. An interesting take on how those Apes could have come into power. Read his article on RetroZap.com. And make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU. Enjoy Movies! This week's program is a very special two-parter! We begin with a piece produced by our Forward Radio intern and UofL student, Eli Herold, in conversation with Mark Steber, Chief Tax Officer of Jackson Hewitt Tax Services, who shares some valuable advice for complex tax returns, especially for Gen-Z tax filers, including advice on cryptocurrencies, investments, sports betting, and side gigs. Mark Steber is responsible for key initiatives at Jackson Hewitt that support overall tax service delivery and quality assurance. Mark also serves as a Jackson Hewitt liaison with the Internal Revenue Service, states and other government authorities. With more than 35 years of tax experience and deep knowledge of the federal and state tax codes, Mark is widely referenced as a national, well-versed expert on consumer income tax issues, especially electronic-tax and tax data-protection issues. The second half of the show is devoted to bringing you some highlights of the great community conversation we had at Forward Radio's 8th Birthday Party on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Maybe It's Fate, a cooperative community center and art gallery at 1425 Story Avenue in Butchertown. Listen in as we bring you some of the live conversations we had with community non-profits, our live musician for the evening, Logan Leet, and many others who came out to celebrate with us and help us raise funds to stay on the air! If you couldn't make it out or would like to give us a birthday present, it's never too late to donate! We rely entirely on listener support and you can always chip in at https://www.forwardradio.org/donate Truth to Power airs every Friday at 9pm, Saturday at 11am, and Sunday at 7pm on Louisville's grassroots, community radio station, Forward Radio 106.5fm WFMP and live streams at https://forwardradio.org
