You may be thinking that poetry isn't exactly marketing. But it was Nina Manolson's Body Peace poems that captured the raw, vulnerable inner process of a woman's relationship with her body. They have resonated with so many women because they speak the truth about our relationships with our bodies. Put yourself out there like Nina did and share your inner process with the world. You'll be amazed at the response and community these poems can create. And who knows, it is the marketing strategy that sets you apart in a sea of sameness. Tune in to the ᴄᴏɴꜱᴄɪᴏᴜꜱ ᴍᴀʀᴋᴇᴛᴇʀ podcast —Body Peace and Reclaiming Your Identity with Nina Manolson ▶️ Key points covered in this episode: [01:14] Meet Nina Manolson, who was always on the lookout for the next diet, the next fitness regime, and how to change the body to fit into that teeny tiny box that our world says is beautiful. She has seen the beauty and liberation of a life that's the opposite of warring with our weight and self-worth. [05:40] We don't just need body love, but body-peace. Nina explains that it's not always lovey-dovey for what makes a real relationship with our bodies but one that's based on a foundation of peace and mutual respect. [09:21] When people are at war with their bodies, they struggle with unwanted eating, binge eating, secret eating, compulsive eating, nighttime eating, restricted eating, all the disordered eating that really get in our way and spends so much time and valuable real estate in our brains. [17:30] Unwanted inner criticism and eating behavior are windows and doorways into other parts of our life and healing that we need to do for ourselves. Nina says, "If we can look at those instead of trying to hide them and push them back under the rug, trying to fix the body as broken, going into the next diet/regimen/quick fix - we have to look underneath that for transformation to happen." [22:14] Hiding and marketing don't go together. Women entrepreneurs who are not at peace with their bodies tend to play small in business. They hide from their bigger purpose, creating the impact and effect they could have in the world. [25:26] We are desperate for someone who's just being themselves – raw, unfiltered, and real in the public sphere of marketing. Nina created successful breakthroughs when she chose to be vulnerable with the written word. Her poems brought her closer to the people she was meant to serve. --------------- Nina Manolson helps women over 40 end their war with food and make peace with their body. Erica started experiencing knee pain when she was five and the doctors told her it was growing pains. When she stopped growing at 14, her parents took her to the Mayo Clinic and the specialists there told her she needed to strengthen her legs. This was the turning point for Erica and she began her journey into strength training at a young age. She found success in her training and eventually became a specialist in the field. Erica shares her story with Beverley on the show.Erica experienced the power of movement to heal the body at a young age and was fortunate enough to learn how to do Olympic lifting with a great coach. She went on to study exercise science and Pilates, which further opened her eyes to the world of movement and healing the body. She was able to get rid of her own knee pain by the time she was 21 and continues to help her clients with their own movement and healing.Erica is a serial entrepreneur and Pilates instructor who started exploring fascia and pelvic floor function. She found that many of her clients, particularly moms in their late twenties and thirties, were experiencing aches and pains and being told by doctors that they would either have to have surgery or suffer with the problems for the rest of their lives. Erica realized that through fascial training and addressing pelvic floor function, she could help her clients. She switched her certifications to understand the techniques and verbiage used in the fitness world and found that focusing on the fundamentals of movement could help eliminate the pain and dysfunction her clients were experiencing. This led her to create her own instructor training.Erica gives an overview of his signature program, Core Rehab, which is designed to help people, even those without physical dysfunction, to learn more about the importance of balance and strength. She also created a pre and postnatal exercise specialist course to help instructors better understand the body and labor during pregnancy.Erica explains that she has seen that pregnant women can become stronger faster during pregnancy, but they should still be cautious and get their doctor's approval before beginning any exercise program. She emphasizes the importance of understanding the core and how to engage it properly, as this will help a pregnant woman use her core with every movement. HIGHLIGHTS"Those are like three common things that we see a lot of and are taught a lot of in fitness, still taught in fitness. And my first thing is, and I educate them on why I don't, I want them to start to be aware that we need to start breaking those habits.""How are you measuring performance? How are you changing the experience so that moms, so that your clients and, and, and you know, and important, how are you communicating as an instructor? To really shift expectations and help clients see that they're having progress.""Or he has to have energy and connection up through the entire body, feeling a light pelvic floor, lower belly, all the way through the top of the head, like with that full lift.""So, and a lot of women, especially a lot of moms, they talk their pelvis because it was a way to help compensate during pregnancy. I am, oh, I am untucking pelvis.""It causes us to lose space in our hips, causes us to use our back too much, and it causes massive imbalance in the pelvic floor. And so then if we have a tucked pelvis and we're going up and down in a squat in more of a tucked pelvis way, and we've got it loaded with a heavy weight and we're really not focused on lengthening through our body, we're not focused on finding the movement through our pelvis."Don't forget to leave a review on Apple Podcasts.About Today's Guest Erica Ziel, mom of three, received her Health and Human Performance degree from Iowa State University, is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Board-Certified Holistic Health Coach, personal trainer, Pilates instructor, deep core and pre/postnatal exercise specialist whose mission is to help women live a healthier, active life and heal their body through movement, breathwork, and gut health. Homeschooling has really come up in the world thanks, in no small part, to the pandemic we all just lived through. In this episode we get to learn from 3 parents who share heartfelt insights that have led to, literally, expanding and deepening their definitions of parenthood, family life, and even how they perceive the role of education for kids, and for ourselves. Of course we got into one of the main issues people raise around homeschooling: socialization / social-emotional learning… We explored some realities about different kids' developing sense of self, experiences and influences that crush a healthy sense of self, and what it looks like when a healthy sense of self has not been crushed. This was definitely not a Black + White, Either/Or, One-Size-Fits-All kind of conversation… in other words, some kids sense of self develops much better away from the big school environment, while for other kids it's the exact opposite. One of the many things I so much appreciated about this conversation was the openness and flexibility, dedication and love with which each of today's parents addressed the wide variety of their homeschooling challenges, including curriculum selection, finding meaningful and supportive community, homeschooling multiple children, homeschooling neuro-diverse kids. We even got into the fascinating topics of de-schooling and un-schooling… and identifying personally relevant resources - some of which are included in this show's notes. After this conversation, Emma wrote that she enjoyed our conversation, because it gave her an opportunity to step back and reflect on her family's life through the homeschooling, de-schooling and unschooling lenses, which helped her to know, even more solidly, what she thinks and what she knows to be best for her family's wellbeing! The resources Emma shared (which you can find in this show's notes) are created by current or veteran homeschool mamas who know the territory because they've lived it. In this episode, Emily breaks down famous weight loss myths and uncovers the truth behind a successful, sustainable lifestyle. Emily Countryman is the CEO and founder of Ideal Wellness, a Washington State-based chain of weight loss clinics that serve clients in-person locally and across the country virtually. The seed of inspiration was planted in 2011 when Emily set out to lose 15 pounds of pregnancy weight one summer. Figuring that abiding by the expert-recommended “eat less and move more” philosophy would quickly work its magic, Emily was frustrated to end the summer down only three pounds. It wasn’t until Emily discovered nutritional ketosis and figured out macros that she lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks. Because of her own success, Emily is passionate about educating other women (men too!) on losing weight and maintaining that goal weight. Since opening the doors of Ideal Wellness, Emily’s team has helped thousands of clients lose over one hundred thousand pounds with their 3-part ShiftSetGo program. Ideal Wellness now has 6 locations and is currently growing its virtual weight loss, coaching staff. Emily has worked in the healthcare industry since 2003 and is determined to make a better future for the next generation, believing that our society can end the obesity pandemic with the right education and information. Emily is a certified weight loss coach and a Board Certified Holistic Health Coach from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Visit Emily's website Ideal wellness here.
"One persons superfood is another persons kryptonite" That quote from this weeks guest, Functional Diagnostic Nutritional Practitioner and Board Certified Holistic Health Coach, Courtney Bursich, truly sets the tone for our incredible conversation. Courtney says that when most people get to her she is their last stop after having exhausted all medical avenues and health and fitness routines. No matter what they have done, how they have eaten, and as healthy as they try to be, something remains "off". With Courtney's help and her deep intake, looking at each client as a whole person, she helps to, through functional testing and protocols, put the missing pieces to their health puzzle together. When you are only looking at food and fitness and not looking deeper at what is going on at a cellular level, at how heavy metals and gut health being askew can have an effect on the body's systems as a whole, well you miss the mark. This is one episode that is going to change your mind from feeling like you want to give up, feeling like your body has let you down, to seeing there is light a the end of the tunnel as long as you keep advocating for yourself and seek some guidance.
