In Part 2 of Episode 25, my gumba Rob Strano joins me to celebrate the grand opening of his new state-of-the-art golf academy in the Florida panhandle. Rob takes us back to his days playing on Tour, sharing reflections on what he calls the “Uecker effect” which he unfairly depicts his PGA Tour career, since he became one of the 1% of the 1% who reached the elite level of the sport. He also recounts a wild story involving what might just be a Tour record on a par 5 at Smithfield Country Club. We also talk about the power of belief, mindset, and staying positive—both on the course and in life. Then, I'm joined by the Confidence Doctor himself, Dr. Bob Winters. Doc shares stories from his recent travels, including a golf-filled trip to a lesser-known Hawaiian island. With the U.S. Women's Open last week, we discuss some of the players he's currently working with in the field, plus the incredible work one of his students is doing for junior golfers across Asia and the Philippines. It's a fun and insightful wrap to another fun episode.
#76: [Inside the Mind] Dr. Bob Winters (The Confidence Doctor): Building Confidence and Playing Mistake-Free Golf In this powerful episode, I sit down with renowned sports psychologist Dr. Bob Winters - affectionately known as The Confidence Doctor - to explore how true confidence is built, sustained, and reclaimed after setbacks. Dr. Winters explains why confidence isn't something you're born with - it's something you build through competence, commitment, and mental resilience. He breaks down the difference between confidence, arrogance, and false bravado, and why confidence without skill is just noise. In today's episode, you'll learn: Why confidence is earned—not inherited The difference between real confidence, arrogance, and bravado How to recover from slumps, setbacks, and embarrassing mistakes Why your physiology changes your psychology (and your performance) The two mindset trophies you must win before every round How to stop hitting “anyway” shots and start committing with clarity What Hakuna Matata and I can handle this have in common If you want to win your club championship, break 80, or just stop getting in your own way, this episode is a must-listen (and re-listen). On this week's show, we kick things off with our regular monthly visit from The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Bob Winters. Doc shares insight into the incredible success his junior players are having, including several competing in the Augusta National Women's Amateur. One standout is Megha Ganne, who set a first-round record with a 63 at Champions Gate. Although our conversation was recorded the night before the tournament began, Doc explains exactly why her stellar performance came as no surprise. He also highlights the accomplishments of other young players he works with and reminds us once again why he's the best in the business—change your mind, change your game. Following Doc, Jay Delsing returns to the show. Jay is not only one of the kindest and most uplifting voices in the game, he's also got a new book coming out titled You Wouldn't Believe Me If I Told You, and trust me, you're going to want to read it. He shares some unforgettable stories, including teeing it up with Stephen Stills, meeting Sean Connery (who then introduced him to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas), and playing with presidents—and a young Tiger Woods. You'll love his energy and storytelling. Finally, we bring in our Resident Director of Instruction, Tom Patri. With a scheduling conflict bumping him up in the lineup, Tom gives us his take on Min Woo Lee's breakthrough victory at the Houston Open and the crucial role Lee's caddie played in avoiding disaster. We also look ahead to The Masters, and Tom shares the four players he expects to be battling it out on the back nine come Sunday.
In Part 2 of Episode 12, I welcome back our resident mental game expert, Dr. Bob Winters, The Confidence Doctor. This month, Dr. Bob dives into the crucial role that your dominant eye plays—not just in your swing, but also in your overall confidence on the course. Get your notepads ready because he shares a couple of key insights you'll want to remember. Then, we wrap things up with our Resident Director of Instruction, Tom Patri. TP gives us the inside scoop on some of his recent Instagram Live interviews, including conversations with our mutual good friend Damon Hack from The Golf Channel and his longtime pal Jimmy Roberts. And in a hilarious twist, TP must've been feeling nostalgic—because for the rest of our chat, he calls me Jimmy...not kidding, you'll hear it for yourself. We also get into his thoughts on some hot topics in the game right now, like slow play and AimPoint green reading. It's a fun and insightful conversation, so stick around and let's tee it up!

We're kicking off 2025 and Season 12 with a fantastic lineup on Next on the Tee! This week in Part 1, we start the new year in the best way possible—with our resident Director of Instruction, Tom Patri and The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Bob Winters. Come back for Part 2 featuring 2 time Georgia PGA Teacher of the Year Brandon Stooksbury and the Head Golf Professional at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio Jason Carbone. In Part 1, TP shares his insights on the first PGA Tour event of the year in Hawaii, where Hideki Matsuyama put on a record-breaking performance, finishing at an astonishing 35 under par. With an incredible 88% greens-in-regulation and 1.56 putts per GIR, Matsuyama won in record-setting fashion shooting a PGA Tour 35 under par. Tom shares his thoughts on that plus we dive into the latest golf equipment hitting the market and discuss the one Tour player he'd love to have a crack at fixing. Then, I welcome back The Confidence Doctor himself, Dr. Bob Winters, for our monthly deep dive into the mental side of the game. Dr. Bob takes us deep inside the mental game, to its core. Doc breaks down how our actions follow our thoughts and shares practical strategies to combat negativity and how to strengthen our mental approach. It's an episode packed with insight, strategy, and inspiration—so let's get 2025 started the right way!
Dr. Robert K. Winters is an internationally renowned Sports Psychologist, Author, and Speaker. Dr. Winters has spent over 35 years investigating how one's thoughts and attitudes affect one's ability to perform to their optimal talent level. Known by the athletes he coaches and mentors as the Confidence Doctor, Bob has had an immeasurable impact on athletes and golfers of all skill levels - helping each and every one of them to change their games by changing their minds. Dr. Winters joins Mark Immelman to share how golfers can build a solid mindset for better performances. He breaks down what a solid mindset entails, and how to achieve it, into: Being Single-minded Being Optimistic Letting Go and letting your best come out Having Intent and Being Intentional in practice and play Being Decisive, Determined and Driven. Bob also talks about the value of keeping things simple, understanding priorities, the "flow-state", psychological hardiness, and learning how to "worry well" instead of catastrophizing. This podcast is also available on YouTube - search and subscribe to Mark Immelman and share it with your friends.
In this episode, I've got four fascinating guests lined up for you. Part 1 kicks off with our Resident Director of Instruction, Tom Patri. TP and I dive into the mass exodus happening among top leaders across all the tours. Plus, we'll discuss the recent announcement that PGA Tour Enterprises is seeking a CEO to work alongside Jay Monahan – which I'm hoping is code for replacing him. We'll also touch on the outgoing CEO of the R&A, Martin Slumbers, and his parting warning for professional golf. All that and more with TP! Next, we're joined by the "Confident Doctor," Dr. Bob Winters, for our monthly visit. Doc will share insights about an exciting new Tour he's joined as a Board member, designed to give talented young women a pathway to the LPGA. We'll also explore the double-edged sword that is golf – how it feels magical when everything is going right but challenging when our minds and bodies aren't in sync. Dr. Bob will join the conversation about 30 minutes in. Tune in for these great discussions, and be sure to come back for Part 2 of this week's show featuring my conversations with Jim Gallagher Jr. and Scott Hamilton.
In Part 1 of this week's episode, we're kicking things off with our resident Director of Instruction, Tom Patri, who's joining us for the 107th time and on the 9th anniversary of the first time he joined the show. Tom and I dive into the proposed changes for the 2025 PGA Tour season, which unfortunately don't seem focused on growing the game at the professional level. We discuss the trickle-down effect these changes could have on top instructors like Tom and on others around the game who are dedicated to helping aspirational players. These changes risk shrinking the game at the top, giving a larger piece of the pie to fewer players. As usual, it seems to come down to more money for fewer people. You'll hear Tom's thoughts on this and much more. Be sure to check out his website at www.tompatri.com and give him a follow on Instragram @tompatrigolf. Here is a link to his YouTube channel where you can get over 360 free video playing lessons, https://www.youtube.com/@TomPatriGolf After Tom, we'll have our monthly visit from “The Confidence Doctor,” Dr. Bob Winters. This month, we're focusing on the fantastic results he's seeing with his junior players as they work toward achieving their goals. Dr. Bob also shares his insights on staying in the present moment instead of constantly projecting ahead. Plus, we discuss the importance of prioritizing enjoyment on the course, asking each other if we had fun instead of immediately asking, “What did you shoot?” Stay up-to-date with Dr. Bob on his website at www.theconfidencedoctor.com.
In Part 1 of Season 11, Episode 51, I'm joined by Steelers Legend Rocky Bleier and The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Bob Winters. Rocky is one of the greatest storytellers in sports and has been a frequent and favorite guest over the years. He first joined me way back in 2011, and this marks the 13th time I've had the honor of chatting with him. We'll dive into the Steelers' season, revisit his early days in Pittsburgh, and hear some fantastic stories about playing alongside Terry Bradshaw. Rocky also shares his thoughts on the toughest moments he's had on the football field, my favorite Chuck Noll story, and his experiences playing in some of his favorite Pro-Ams. Following Rocky, we get our monthly visit from The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Bob Winters. This time, Doc talks about how to create a "Personal Zone of Control" and the importance of managing our expectations rather than trying to meet the expectations of others and creating a personal playing space. It's a must-listen for anyone looking to improve their mental game. Tune in for these amazing stories and more!
In Part 2 of Episode 47, I'm thrilled to welcome back The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Bob Winters, along with Chris Sheehan, the Head Golf Professional at the Pittsburgh Field Club and a longtime friend of the show. Dr. Bob Winters recently explored Alaska, returning with captivating stories that offer insights into golf, highlighting lessons in patience and perseverance. He'll share the remarkable experiences from his Alaskan adventure. Chris will recount his journey through the golf world, delve into the rich history of the Pittsburgh Field Club, discuss the influential designers behind its layout, and explore the rivalries among notable Pittsburgh clubs such as Oakmont, Fox Chapel, and Allegheny Country Club.
In Part 1 of Episode 41, I'm joined by Dina Parise, the 2015 IHRA Pro Modified World Champion, and The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Bob Winters. Dina Parise, who grew up on Long Island, was a competitive gymnast in the summer and a passionate ice skater in the winter, idolizing Dorothy Hamill. She turned her love for ice skating into a four-year career performing with the Ice Capades, where she even had the chance to meet her idol. In our conversation, Dina shares stories from that time, including the first time she signed an autograph, meeting her husband Andrew, a champion driver in his own right, and how she got hooked on drag racing. She also reflects on the thrill of winning her first driver's championship and reveals why, in a movie about her life, she'd want Marisa Tomei to play her. In this month's discussion with Dr. Bob Winters, we delve into his pioneering work in junior golf, focusing not just on the swing but on the mental game. Dr. Winters emphasizes the importance of cultivating a positive attitude, focus, and the right mental approach. Recognizing this need decades ago, he developed a program to help young players build the mindset necessary for success. We also explore the concept of “the drive to finish,” addressing why some top players have struggled to close out tournaments recently—a challenge we've all faced. Doc offers insights and strategies to help us overcome that hurdle.
In this episode, I'm joined by The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Bob Winters; the Founder of Golf Live, Keith Scioli; and our Resident Director of Instruction, Tom Patri. Dr. Bob makes his regular monthly appearance and discusses the importance of having a SOLID foundation for your game. What does SOLID stand for? He explains it as: Single-mindedOptimisticLetting go of score and expectationsIntentional and focused over each shotDecisive and determined mindset Dr. Bob also shares insights about a hidden gem course in Ocala, which he says may be the best in Florida. Keith Scioli transitioned from being a Landman for Southwest Energy to creating the ultimate golf app, Golf Live. Available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, this app offers real-time live playing lessons with a PGA Professional, no matter where you or they are. Struggling on the range and wish you could get a live lesson right then? Now you can. Keith walks us through the app's features, including the soon-to-be-added swing data integration, making it feel like you're in a simulator with your coach, even if you're just hitting into a net in your backyard. Tom Patri is back, and this week we discuss more missed short putts on tour. At least this time, the player didn't avoid the media and fans. Tom also explains why your handicap might be misleading if you play most of your rounds on the same course.
In this BITE-SIZED episode of the Demystifying Mental Toughness Podcast, Dr. Bob Winters, an internationally recognised sport psychologist who has supported US Men's and Women's Open Golf Champions and many other elite professional athletes across a variety of sports joins me. He goes on to tell me about how champions think and cultivating a limitless mindset by the way that you think. Key Learning Points: How good would you be if you didn't know how good you could be? How good would you be if you were unrealistic in your thinking? Champions are great at not thinking realistically. Conditional confidence comes from outcomes and results not deep internal confidence. Bill tells about the over-mile-long cliff edge holes they created there. We also hear about his other current projects at Coronado in El Paso, Texas, and The Links at Audubon Park in Memphis. Dr. Bob shares the story of his 9th hole-in-one that he made recently while playing the Nicklaus course at the Reunion Resort. Then he shares the simplest key to releasing tension in our swings that will result in hitting better shots. You'll think, "No way" but try it and see. Let me know if it works for you.
In Part 1 of this week's podcast, my guests are former LPGA Commissioner & Author Charlie Mechem and The Confidence Doctor, Dr. Robert Winters. Charlie Mechem has recently written his third book titled, Arnie & Jack, Stories of My Long Friendship with Two Remarkable Men. We hear about how he met both men and stories from his 10 years working as a Consultant to Arnold Palmer following Charlie's tenure as Commissioner of the LPGA Tour. One of the many great stories that Charlie share is from when former PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem asked him to convince Mr. Palmer and Mr. Nicklaus to Co-Design The King & the Bear. Finchem failed to get them to agree to it multiple times. Charlie had a very unique idea how to get them to do it...and it worked. We also hear about the true mutual respect and friendship Jack and Arnie had. Charlie tells the story of having lunch with Mr. Palmer following The Masters one year. They talked about a player who was in contention laid up on 13 & 15. Neither couldn't imagine why anyone would do that. Palmer asked Charlie, do you remember how many times I finished 2nd in The Masters? Charlie said no. Mr. Palmer replied, neither do I. Hear those stories plus several other wonderful ones including Charlie playing golf with Neil Armstrong, Paul Brown, Pete Rose, and Tommy Thayer of Kiss. Dr. Bob Winters, The Confidence Doctor, joins me in the second segment. He shares tips for how to keep those intrusive negative thoughts out of our minds when we want to see all the trouble around the golf course. Change Your Mind, Change Your Game is his mantra. He also talks about how to be smarter than your doubt plus shares a wonderful story of meeting Jack Fleck out on the driving range and the impact that had on him going forward.

We kick off 2024 and Season #11 of the Next on the Tee podcast with my guests Tom Patri, Kermit Zarley, Dr. Bob Winters, and Jane Crafter. TP and I get into the deadline that wasn't with the PIF and the PGA Tour. The New Year's deadline came and went and instead of professional golf going into a new year with all this behind them, we got nothing. I also get his thoughts on the power play that some players may be trying to pull off like telling Fred Ridley that The Masters needs to up their prize money. TP also gives us a lesson on what to do if we've contracted the dreaded Y word with our putting. Kermit Zarley played his college golf at the University of Houston. He was the medalist at the 1962 National Championship and helped the Cougars win the team title as well. We hear about what it was like being a part of Houston's domination of men's college golf from the mid-50s to the mid-70s. Kermit then takes us through his 4 wins on tour and what it was like battling Jack Nicklaus at the 1972 US Open at Pebble Beach. We just scratched the surface of his great career. Dr. Bob Winters is back. He is one of the Top Sports Psychologists. He takes us through his 5 Truth Bombs to Help Create Golf Confidence. We also learn about his recent trip to Scotland where he played at Prestwick, the site of the very first Open Championship. His trip also included a stop at Dundonald Links site of the Women's Open Championship. Doc is fantastic and it was great to have him back on the show so quickly. I round out the show with a visit from Jane Crafter. Jane is from Perth, Australia. She is a two-time Australian Ladies Masters Champion plus winner of the 1997 Australian Open. We hear about those tremendous victories plus what it was like battling Nancy Lopez at the 1990 Phar-Mor at Inverrary and being a driving force behind starting the Legends of the LPGA Tour. Jane is a delight and made the segment so much fun.
On this episode of Next on the Tee, I am joined by one of the all-time great Authors and Golf TV Broadcast Producers Keith Hirshland, PGA Tour Legend Hal Sutton, Host of Grilling at the Green & BBQ aficionado Jeff Tracy, and top Sports Psychologist Dr. Bob Winters. Keith Hirshland is my all-time favorite author and one of the great people you get to meet in this life. He's written 6 wonderful books including "Song Girl, A Mystery in 2 Verses" (watch out for the CT Mascaro character), "Cover Me Boys I'm Going In, Tales of the Tube from a Broadcast Brat (my all-time favorite book), and his latest is the second installment in the Murphy Murphy series this one is titled, The Case of the Commission on Cliches. You can get all of them out on Amazon or www.keithhirshland.com. Keith and I talk about what mischief Murphy gets into this time around. It's going to be such a fun read. Keith is also the Producer of the LIV Golf broadcasts. We hear his thoughts on Season 2 of LIV golf, if he thinks there will be a Season 3 plus some of the cool new drone technology they're looking to use if/when Season 3 comes around. Hal Sutton has become a dear friend and someone I am so thankful for. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his new course design called Darmor Club located just outside of Houston. It's an old-school Scottish design using templates from C.B MacDonald and Seth Raynor. He has created a course that we can all enjoy. It is certainly on my bucket list to play. In addition to hear about Darmor Club, I also get Hal's thoughts on the Ryder Cup and if NIL deals are about to infiltrate the world of golf. SwingClick Golf, Liesel Niehaus, International Sales director and Mike Quinn, former Sunshine Tour player and Managing Director for SwingClick, talk with Holly about the featured product on the Golf Insiders. Liesel said that the SwingClick can help your game in several ways, but the basis is that it helps you complete your backswing. Sometimes we lose our rhythm and timing. Mike and Holly talk about Jordan Spieth losing his rhythm. With the SwingClick you hear 3 audible clicks that help create the muscle memory with your swing. Everyone's swing length is different. No one size fits all for the top of the backswing. The key is to find the top of you backswing and that is where if you swing properly, the SwingClick makes the first audible click at the top of your backswing. The second audible click is at impact and the third click is after complete follow through. At the PGA Show this year, SwingClick launched the SwingClick PLUS which is a sleeker, more aerodynamic model. Holly talks to Mike and Liesel about Phil Mickelson's mission to have people play the game golf for a lifetime and do it injury free using a less violent swing. The SwingClick can help develop a smooth, slow methodical swing. Mike said that Sam Snead played golf at an advanced again and was successful because of his smooth, non-violent swing. The emphasis is not always on distance but accuracy. Holly talks to Mike about Grace's win and is 14th in the Official World Golf Ranking. Fellow South African is getting better and better and Ernie Els has a lot of faith in Branden's ability. Mike said that Grace is getting better as he is getting older. SwingClick PLUS is available at www.AMAZON.com, (search SwingClick) and enter the code "HOLLYG33" to receive a 20% discount on the SwingClick PLUS. Make sure to follow the Golf Insiders on Facebook and Twitter. Dr. Bob Winters, Sports Psychologist from David Leadbetter Academy, Mental Conditioning Coach and renowned author, calls in to talk to Holly G and the crew about Ernie Els' 7-putt at the Master's on his first hole. Dr. Bob says that there are two types of "yips" Type 1 and Type 2. Dr Bob talks about "freezing" while putting. The brain is always looking for something new and a new product or new method usually helps you fix problems with your putting and your swing. Els said he got his hands higher and changed his grip. Dr Bob said that for the brain it's like laying down mental train tracks. When you have a break in the "train tracks" it throws your game off. The key is to have a solid routine. His latest book is "Mistake Free Golf." Todd Lewis, The Golf Channel, calls in to wrap up the show and speaks with Holly G about Branden Grace's win at the RBC. Holly later asks Todd about Curtis Reed, Mr 57. Very few people have been able to bring their success from a "lower tier tour" to a major tour. Great little side story to watch, Todd talks about a chance meeting with Bryson DeChambeau last year at an Irish restaurant in San Francisco. SMU, DeChambeau's collegiate team at the time, was playing in a local tournament and DeChambeau came up and introduced himself to Todd. Not too long after that, DeChambeau won the NCAA Championship and the U.S. Amateur Championship. Todd and Holly also talk about Phil Mickelson and his unraveling at the Masters this year. Todd said that Mickelson commented that he didn't manage the course at Augusta well this year, which was disappointing since Mickelson was doing really well leading up to the Masters. Holly also talks to Todd about Rory McIlroy and his recent admission that he has some mental hurdles to overcome before he can win at Augusta. Holly closes the show asking Todd when Tiger Woods might return ... it will probably be after the U.S. Open this year.

Holly G is in the studio with guest host Brendan Sweeney, French Lick Resort, who just got back from Augusta and Social Media pro Will Perry, EVVUS. Holly talks with Brendan about Jordan Spieth's unfortunate unraveling at Augusta on the final day as well as Danny Willett winning the Masters beating Spieth and Lee Westwood who finished tied for second. The two talk at length about the events on Sunday at Augusta National. SwingClick Golf is sponsoring this week's show. Joining Holly G and Brendan on the phone for the second segment of the show is Dr. Bob Winters, Sports Psychologist from David Leadbetter Academy, Mental Conditioning Coach and renowned author. Dr Bob said that there have been many different golfers who have been challenged at Augusta over the years. Dr Bob said that even the best of the best and sometimes the worst comes out of them, especially at a competitive level. Holly mentioned that Jordan Spieth said that he felt par would win it for him after a dream front 9. He didn't win the tournament on Hole 12, he actually gave it away when he thought that he could par on the back 9. He gave up his edge and changed his playing philosophy. Dr Bob said that you have to stay in the moment and play each shot as it comes to you and don't count your chickens before they are hatched. Danny Willett is 3 shots back at the start of Sunday and shoots 5 under 67. Lee Westwood gets to 3 under after 15 and has a chance to close to the deal. Spieth did fight back but came up just short. Dr Bob asks Brendan his thoughts on Jordan Spieth and this year's Masters. Brendan thinks that the seeds were sewn before Sunday with Spieth. There were many people who thought that after the front 9 on Sunday that Spieth could mail in the rest of the tournament. Dr Bob said you have to play offensively. You can't change your style and philosophy mid round. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in to talk about the Masters with Holly G. Holly asks Bob what his thoughts were when Spieth had control. He had a 5-shot lead and had birdied four straight, you kinda figured Jordan was going to be able to "get it home." But no one saw a quadruple bogey by Spieth and Danny Willett playing so well on the final round. Holly mentions that there were a lot of surprises, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, Ernie Els, on the first couple of days that lead to a disappointing Masters. Bob was really shocked by Phil and the way it went down with him missing the cut by a shot. Bubba Watson had a great chance to win the tournament and had played pretty well. Brendan asked Bob about the mood in the media center on Sunday. The three aces on the 16th. Bob said that the mood as it relates to Spieth was shock. Willett had won at Dubai earlier in the year and finished second to Rory McIlroy last year on the European Tour. Holly talks with Bob about the success of the Europeans at the Masters and what that looks like going forward to the Ryder Cup team this year. Global Golf Post's Steve Eubanks, calls in to wrap up this week's show. Steve was at Augusta and comments on what happened there. Steve said that he wasn't really surprised that Spieth had troubles on Sunday. Spieth hadn't played that well all week. Steve said that Spieth's putting was phenomenal and kept him in the tournament all week event though he didn't have his A game. Holly asks Steve about Jordan's comments after his finishing holes on Saturday. Holly asks Steve about who he thinks the favorite will be going into the U.S. Open at Oakmont. "Spieth since he is such a great putter and will have a huge chip on his shoulder after the Masters.

Holly G and guest;Dr. Bob Winters, Sports Psychologist from David Leadbetter Academy, Mental Conditioning Coach and renowned author, and Kevin Sternett, assistant pro at Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point, Will Perry, EVVUS, are in the studio for the Masters preview show sponsored by SwingClick. Holly asks Dr. Bob about all the amazing story lines surrounding this years Masters. Such as: Newcomer Kevin Kisner, Jordan Spieth going for back-to-back Masters titles, Rory McIlroy trying to complete the major grand slam, Jason Day going for back to back majors or three consecutive PGA Tour wins. Then their is fan favorite Phil Mickelson's continued quest to get the green jacket once again. Dr. Bob explains that players are fighting not only the battle in their own mind, but they and others expectations. The mental and emotional jousting along with a lot of great golf. The duo talk about the Masters' Par 3 contest had 9 hole-in-ones including back-to-back aces on the same hole by Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler. Gary Player had an ace on the first hole at 80-years-young. Garry Smits, Florida Times Union in Jacksonville, calls in from the press room at Augusta National. Garry said that there has been a lot of discussion about whether some of the players have over prepared or under prepared. The Masters has the best practice area in the world. Jason Day had mentioned that you can be out there all day and leave your game on the range. Dr Bob asks Garry about that premise. Garry feels that the way that you beat this course is to play it over and over, instead of spending hours on the practice greens and driving ranges. Holly talks to Garry about the weather at Augusta for the week of the Masters. Smits mentions that the greens are firm and fast. He thinks the wind might be the issue more than the rain. The wind players and the Europeans and someone like Rickie Fowler have the advantage typically with these conditions. Holly asks about Jim Herman's win at the Shell Houston Open last week that earned him the final spot for this year's Masters tournament. There were some really good golfers in the field that Herman beat. Gary said that Herman has played a lot of golf and is 38 years old. Gary said that his pick is Bubba Watson to win his third Green Jacket this week. SwingClick PLUS, one of the #1 training devices on Amazon.com. Master your timing, temp and rhythm with SwingClick. Mike Weir, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson are three left handed golfers who have won The Masters. Holly asks Kevin Sternett, who has been to Augusta six times, about his experience at Augusta many years ago. Dr Bob talks about the undulations and the slope of the greens at Augusta and how they are different than other courses. Steve Eubanks, Global Golf Post, calls in from Augusta after spending time at the ANA Inspiration the week before won by Lydia Ko. Her second major championship at the age of 18. Steve talks about that Ko isn't the most powerful golfer on the LPGA, but she is one of the most consistent players on the tour. Dr Bob talks to Steve about the demeanor of Lydia and that is what separates her from the field. Steve said that he feels that Jason Day or Bubba Watson to win the Masters this week. Kip Ingle calls in from The Golf Auction to wrap up the show and talks about some vintage golf collectibles and memorabilia. The actual ball that Cary Middlecoff used to win the 1955 Masters. Arnold Palmer's 1958 ball he used to win the Masters. A first edition of Down The Fairway that is autographed are just some of the items you can bid on. Also you can consign your items with The Golf Auction or call 866-842-0268. The Golf Auction has a few auctions that run during the course of the year.

Holly G is in the studio in the studio on the eve of the Tour Championship with special guest co host Mental Conditioning Coach Dr Bob Winters, David Leadbetter Academy. Holly and Dr. Bob talk about Jordan Spieth winning the FedEx Cup Championship and becoming the $22 million man. Dr Bob said that what worked for Jordan is that he got back to doing ... what makes a champion a champion. Just need to make a birdie and get some momentum going. Jordan was not being patient when he missed the first two cuts and trying to be something that he had not done all year. Typically Spieth plays one shot at a time and approaches each tournament that way. Dr Bob said that Gary Player once told him that golf is a marathon ... and it's about longevity ... you have to love every tournament you play and play the very best you can. Holly asked Dr Bob how does Jordan reset for the next year after all that he accomplished in 2015? "Jordan needs to get back to reality, so to speak, ... he shouldn't go out in 2016 and try to defend each title... you have to go after each title as a new one and not try to defend it ... that is where you dominate. Start fresh each year. Move forward and have a blast and see what 2016 can be. Holly asks Dr Bob what might have happened to Jason Day? Did he run out of gas? Dr Bob said he didn't think so, he said that all of Jason's victories were emotional, especially the PGA Championship. Dr Bob gave some more free advise on winning. Sometimes the lead and wanting to win holds you back. You have to let go like a horse in a race, let the bit go and let the horse run naturally. Jason actually played until he was done and won the tournament. Five tournament wins for both Spieth and Day. Dr Bob talks to Holly about his latest book, Mistake Free Golf, Holly asks Dr B what is the biggest mistake that most amateurs make playing golf? People doubt themselves and their talent and they get in their way. Player steps into the shot, but have doubt when they are over the ball and hit anyway and the anyway shot goes anywhere. Why didn't I just back off and get our head in the right space before addressing the ball each time. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in to the show to talk about FedEx Cup as well as the upcoming President's Cup. Holly talks to Bob about his interview with Jordan Spieth right after Jordan won the FedEx Cup. How do you wrap your mind around winning that much money? $22 million dollars. It easily could have been a $7 million or $8 million between first and second or first and third place. Dr Bob Winters, said that he was working with Chi Chi Rodriguez and told the audience at the event that one of the things Dr B discovered is that you have to be able to stand over the ball and stroke it whether it's for$5, $50 or $500,000... you have to be able to hit it the same way. Chi Chi grabbed the microphone and said Dr Bob I love everything you just said but obviously you've never putted for $500,000. Bob Harig said that the sooner you get the money part out of your mind, the easier it is. He recalled the pressure that Jason Day had put on himself on winning the money because he never had money. It got in his way until he let go of those thoughts. Bob said before that no one ever talked about the Tour Championship as winning a major. Flaw in the system at this time of year these guys are dragging going one week to another and a whirlwind. Then the playoffs are four in five weeks. Travelling all over the United States. Jordan missed two cuts and still won the final event and won the whole championship. Maybe the players need a little rest after the PGA Championship before starting the FedEx Cup playoffs. Bob said that maybe with Jordan missing the first two cuts he had a chance to regroup and approach the final two events as a major. I have a pretty good lead in the points and with my points Jordan only had to do okay in the third event and then finish in the Top 5 then go on and win the final event. Holly asks Bob about the upcoming President's Cup. Holly asks Bob why did Louis Oosthuizen withdraw from the President's Cup. ---hamstring issue. Todd Lewis, The Golf Channel, joins the show talking about the money Jordan Spieth just won. Holly asks Todd about watching Spieth play this well. Todd said that golf is the pursuit of perfection that is never attainable. If I'm slightly off and I miss the green I'm still make birdie. To have that perspective is very remarkable. Holly and Dr Bob mentions Jordan's self talk and how the whole thing is a team thing like Lee Trevino used to do. Todd says that when Jordan hits a bad shot he lets go of it in almost a comical sort of way. He's the most clutch putter that I have seen since Tiger in 2007. But when the putter leaves him, how did Jordan react to that. He had to refocus. Missing those two cuts of the first events was a blessing in disguise. Todd comments that if Tiger can get his body and his game back at the age of 40 with the "new guard" of McIlroy, Spieth, Fowler and Jason Day, can you imagine how much higher the game of golf can be elevated. If that happens golf will be incredible. Holly asks Todd about when he thinks Tiger might target returning to competition? Todd guesses, maybe The Farmers Insurance Open, which is about 5-6 months after his second back surgery and give him some time to heal and do therapy. Holly talks to Dr Bob about Suzanne Pettersen's at the Solheim Cup. Is this a competition or a exhibition? Bob said that the tournament started here in Lake Nona in 1990 and the USA blew out the International Team. Any time you have controversy it brings a lot of attention. Dr Bob said that he knows Suzanne and she is a tough competitor and loves to compete. Who made the mistake. He said that Allison Lee made the first mistake as she assumed that someone conceded the putt. The onus of responsibility has to go back to Lee, she was the one who made the mistake. You can talk good sportsmanship, but he said it's pretty black and white. Steve Eubanks, Global Golf Post, calls in to wrap up the show. Holly continues the conversation about Pettersen's reaction to Allison Lee thinking the putt was conceded.

Holly G is in the studio talking about Rickie Fowler's win at the Deutche Bank Championship in Boston over Henirk Stenson. Holly also takes listeners on a quick trip around the globe updating them on what's happening in golf. Steve Eubanks, Global Golf Post, calls in to talk about the Deutsche Bank with Holly G and the listeners. Holly mentions that Henrik Stenson 16th hole on the final round where there was a lot more breeze coming in the face of the golfers that viewers who weren't there wouldn't know. He had the advantage of going after Fowler and still went with 6 Iron. He acknowledged that the shot cost him the tournament. Holly talks to Steve about Fowler's patience with his game. Steve says that there seems to be a switch that Fowler turns on and becomes a different player and he's in a zone. Steve also said that Fowler's final round was a questionable one before the turn, then after that he flipped the switch and took off. He also got his putter going well. Jordan Spieth missed the second straight cut and Steve talked about the mental strain for all the golfers over the past eight months including Spieth. "I need to walk with some cockiness in my step these next two tournaments," Spieth said. Too much negative speak with himself during the week was not helpful for Jordan. Holly asks Steve about Jason Day maybe not playing the way he wanted to play. Day was battling a head cold all week but still played pretty well and is in a good position in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. With a week off the remaining FedEx Cup players get a week off before the final two week stretch. Holly asks Steve who he thinks has the best shot moving forward out of the Top 10. Steve really likes Day's chances with the way he has been playing but also said an angry Stenson is a dangerous one. Holly asks Steve about the upcoming Evian Championship, the LPGA's 5th Major and the Solheim Cup. Steve feels that It doesn't get any bigger than these two weeks in France and Germany. A lot of the Korean players should play well this week since they don't have a week after that in the Solheim Cup. Juli Inkster is trying to get the women ready and feel that they are the underdogs but Steve feels that on paper the USA should run away from the competition but the game is not played on paper. Dr. Bob Winters, Mental Conditioning Coach, talks with Holly about many of the facets of winning and golf. One of Dr. Bob's students, Kris Tamulus, won her first LPGA tournament at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic recently after more than 175 starts. Holly and Bob discuss match play versus stroke play. Holly asks Dr. Bob about the emotions, swings of momentum, the pressure on the players and teams and the fact that they are playing as a team. Dr. Bob feels that you need to give your partner confidence and give your opponents fits in match play. You start fresh on every hole and that is why it becomes so nerve racking for players. The little games within the game. Dr. Bob Winters' latest book, Mistake Free Golf, is now on sale at any major book store, as well as ad www.drbobwinters.com. Winters addresses the 9 most common mental mistakes players make and how to correct them. If you can eliminate some of these mistakes you will enjoy the game so much more. One of the courses featured on The Golf Insiders Golf Card, which was recently on sale, is the Zellwood Station Golf Club just north of Apopka. The Head Professional at Zellwood, Chuck McLoone, calls in to wrap up the show. Zellwood is about 6500 feet from the back tees but McLoone says don't let the length fool you as there are about 30-40 foot elevation changes throughout the course and a few holes are around crater junction, which used to be a sink hole and now is more of a natural area that is not typical for Florida. It's a good mix of golf holes and you'll need every club in your bag. Holly and Chuck talk about an upcoming tournament hosted by Zellwood Station Veterans Association for the Disabled Veterans. Oct 17 is the 6th annual tournament. You can call the pro shop at (407) 886-3303 Ext 2 to sign your team up. The course is located at 2126 Spilman Drive, Zellwood, FL 32798. Holly takes a minute to talk to Chuck about putting on the PGA Tour and the different techniques players use. She asks Chuck about some putting tips for amateurs. He said that the biggest problem for amateur golfers is that they don't get the putt to the hole. So pace is probably the most important part of the putt. Chuck said that when you go play a course, take about 15 minutes to familiarize yourself with the speed of the putting greens by spending those minutes gaining a feel for the speed. Putt completely across the green both ways if you can to gauge the speed. He also said that players should be MORE aggressive from about 20 feet and in and not so tentative.

Dr Bob Winters, David Leadbetter Academy, is the special guest in studio with Holly G. Dr Bob deals with some of the greatest players in the world and is one of the leading mental coaches. Holly and Dr Bob talk about Dustin Johnson and coming back to golf and recount the penalty DJ incurred during the PGA Championship a few years ago. European Tour player Shane Lowry wins the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by two shots holding off Justin Rose, Jim Furyk and Bubba Watson. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls into the show from Whistling Straits. Holly asks Bob about Rory McIlroy's return to the game after what looked like a horrific injury some 6 weeks or so ago. Bob said that Rory is looking and playing well. His number one ranking in the world is on the line as Rory comes back to the game. Jordan Spieth has come on strong this year in McIlroy's absence and threatens to overtake McIlroy as the number one player in golf. Holly asks Bob Harig about Dustin Johnson coming so close but not being able to finish the tournament after leading several rounds heading into the final day. Bob feels that the chances of Dustin or any other golfer repeating the penalty five years ago are so remote and he feels it is getting too much attention. Dr Bob asks Bob Harig about the set up of Whistling Straits. Compared to Chambers Bay and the Open Championship, the greens and the fairways are lush green. If the weather is good the scoring should be good. Pete Dye course at it finest. There was a bunch of rain on Monday which softened things up considerably but its 7,500 yards but with the conditions it will play even longer. Holly recants the darkness last year at Valhalla with Bob and all the chaos that ensued as the PGA, Mickelson, Fowler and McIlroy tried to get the final holes finished so they didn't have to come back the next day for one or two holes. Bob said that "It could have been really bad. Rory was trying to see what Phil and Ricky did and didn't have to play his second shot with as much pressure." The PGA wanted to get it done and the weather was such a factor but maybe could have moved the tee times up that morning to help. Holly asks Dr. Bob what it takes to breakthrough? What's the mental difference between closing the deal, choking or just being able to stay in the moment. Hitting the shots in the moment. It comes down to are you a clutch or are you going to choke. The best players in the world get the ball in the hole in the most efficient way. They prepare themselves for these types of moments. They become very consistent with their mind set and break it down to the simplest common denominator. Don't let the enormity of the situation control the outcome. I don't have to make this any bigger than what it is. It takes a lot of time and discipline to do that and that's why they come to see Dr Bob Winters and others like him.

Holly G and Jeff Shain, PGATour.com and Prime Sports Network.com are in the studio on the eve of The Open Championship being played at the St. Andrews Golf Course in Fife, Scotland. You can follow all the action of the Open Championship with this link to the Syndicated Widget. Jeff has visited St. Andrews and says that there is no other place else that eats, sleeps and breathes golf like the people in Scotland who live around St. Andrews. There is as much away from the golf course and there is at The Old Course. The fans are very knowledgeable of the game and appreciative of good golf. Mike Kern, Philadelphia Daily News, calls in from Scotland to talk to Holly and Jeff about the weather surrounding the Open Championship and how it will change the player's game over the next four days on the Old Course. There's a chance of rain Thursday and Friday and wind on the weekend. Mike says it's going to be a typical British Open and the rain will probably soften the course. Holly and Mike talk about Jordan Spieth's chances to win his 3rd consecutive Major championship this week at the Open Championship. Mike doesn't feel that Spieth will be able to do it because of the odds that are against him and are with the field. With all the great players of the past trying to win three in a row, the odds are not in favor of Spieth to win his 3rd Major. Dustin Johnson is a favorite because of his length off the tee. Jeff asks Mike who he thinks will challenge Spieth if Jordan makes a run, who will make the run with him? Mike feels that a player who can adjust to the conditions and also hit the ball far off the tee. Dustin Johnson or Justin Rose. Spieth came back from 102nd last week at the John Deere Classic to win in a playoff. Mike feels that Spieth is the best putter in the world right now and if you can putt you always have a chance. Holly feels that Jordan has the mental toughness that it takes and he doesn't sound like a 21-year-old. Holly and Mike wrap up the segment talking about the news that Rory might be out until January. Damon Hack, The Golf Channel, called in just before the show and spoke with Holly and Jeff about the Open Championship ... the weather and how it can affect players like it did Rory. Louis Oosthuizen was able to run away with it five years ago, because he was 15 minutes ahead of the weather and was already sitting in the club house watching the rest of the field play. Loves the bunkers in the United Kingdom golf courses and says there is nothing like them anywhere in the U.S. Holly talks about Jordan Spieth's chances. Damon said that he loved Spieth's quote from the press conference, "I'm not here to win 3 straight majors, I'm just trying to win the Open Championship." Tiger Woods, said he's not dead and buried, he still wants to play and is still hungry but I'm going through swing changes again and there will be steps forward and steps back. Damon questions whether Tiger's B and A games eclipse Spieth's and Dustin Johnson's now? Tiger feels comfortable at The Old Course. Holly asks Damon about the fans and the Open Championship crowds. "They love the game and applaud great shots even if they are still 40 feet from the hole. Extremely passionate and grateful and their role in this great game of golf. Damon loves Rickie Fowler's chances this week coming off his win last week in the Scotland Open and loves links players. Adam Scott reunited with Steve Williams and maybe Paul Casey's chances. A free week of golf instruction from the Gary Gilchrist Summer Junior Golf Camp valued at $1,850 is available to win just by registering on www.thegolfinsiders.com. Dr Bob Winters, Mental Conditioning Coach from the David Leadbetter Academy, calls in from the Nike Golf Schools where he heads up the Nike Junior Golf Program near Williams College in northern part of Massachusetts. Holly asks how a player gets over past events like Dustin Johnson and deal with situations, worked with so many major open champions in the past 20 years I don't think they ever get over it. Failing is the fertilizer for future success. Dr. Bob says you can't ponder on it too much cause it destroys their focus. Remember Scott Hoch at the Masters and how he seemingly "gave it away" to Nick Faldo. Be interesting to see how DJ will rebound at the Open Championship from his loss at Chambers Bay. Dr Bob says that how you win a grand slam like Spieth is pursuing or win the Triple Crown like American Pharaoh just did is that you have to go out and compete in the event to win it. Jeff asks Dr. Bob how he feels the pairings at the Open Championship might affect DJ who is paired with Spieth given that Jordan just beat Johnson in the last event they faced each other? DJ can use it for motivation. Dr. Bob Winters also pointed out that there are a lot of distractions at the Open Championship other than just playing with the other player. "A key is taking ownership of the now and being in the present moment," Winters said. "If you dwell on the past or think of the future you wind up way off course." Mistake Free Golf by Dr Bob Winters 407-340-7785. Holly and Jeff wrap up the show briefly talking about The U.S Women's Open Championship won by In Gee Chung. Holly talks about the record setting opportunities for Inbee Park who has already won the first two LPGA majors of the season. Park has 5 wins so far this season and is ranked as the #1 golfer on the LPGA. The AT&T National is also on tap as well as the U.S. Senior Open Championship in Pittsburgh, PA. Ken Duke won the Travelers Championship using Aldila's new graphite Tour Irons featuring RIP Technology and Aldila's new Tour Green shafts in his fairway woods.
