Join me this morning as I welcome comedian Brad Upton, who'll be talking about his tour and how his career took a quick and surprising turn more than 30 years after his start in standup. Brad was teaching the fourth grade and coaching high school track in Pasco, WA when he first stepped on stage in 1984. He quickly decided that he wanted to do standup instead, so he quit teaching in June of 1986 and never looked back. He made several cable TV appearances in the early 90's, headlined comedy clubs from coast to coast, opened for big name music acts and was hired to perform at corporate events. Instead of seeking the bright lights of LA or New York, he chose to remain based in Seattle where he and his wife of 35 years raised their now 28-year old son and 26–year old daughter and he could continue his offstage hobby. In 2017 he taped a special for a brand new comedy platform called Dry Bar Comedy and things changed in ways he never expected. Dry Bar released a clip of Brad in June of 2018 about millennials that went viral - with 12 million views in 48 hours, then 33 million views in 10 days. It sent his CD to number 1 on the iTunes Charts and had him trending on Twitter. The world became suddenly aware of this ‘new' comedian. Today, that video has nearly 90 million views and according to Dry Bar, is the most viewed standup video ever. He has released two very successful specials on Dry Bar and now has well over 200 million views on the internet. He's also become a regular guest at the iconic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. This weekend you can see Brad perform at Helium Comedy Club in Philly. www.bradupton.com

Laughter is making a return to Lovett Auditorium thanks to a comedy-loving alumnus with a heart for Murray State. Paducah, Kentucky-native Ben Wilson, a 1999 environmental engineering technology alumnus now working as a real estate attorney in Florida, is combining his love for his alma mater with his passion for stand-up comedy in an effort to bring nationally-known talent to western Kentucky. The two-night Kentucky Comedy Festival hits the stage at Murray State's historic Lovett Auditorium this October 19-20. Inspired by Comedy Central's “South Beach Comedy Festival” in Miami, Wilson began planning the Kentucky Comedy Festival on Murray State's campus in 2020 with the goal of creating a fun and positive experience for the comedians, the campus community and the local region, and the hope of creating an annual affair. The two-day line-up features eight comedians including Lace Larrabee, Kentucky-native Mark Klein, Brad Upton, Tammy Pescatelli, Katherine Blanford (whose mother was a Murray State alumna), Eric O'Shea, Jasmine Ellis and Kevin Farley, brother of the late “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Farley. Many of the featured comedians can be seen on YouTube's Dry Bar Comedy Channel. Ben talks about his love for all things comedy, including an amazing story about how Possum Trot and Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky led to a fated friendship with Rodney Dangerfield, and his beloved Bulldogs, appropriately-named Rodney and Farley. Proceeds from the event will fund a scholarship that Wilson has established to support students who participate in Murray State University intramural sports. Ben participated in intramural sports as a student, and in 1999 was named Outstanding Senior Man. Realizing as a student himself the impact that extra-curricular activities can have on student retention, success and mental health, Ben established the "Living the Dream with Ben and the Bulldogs Intramural Sports Athletes of the Year Scholarship, which will provide a $1,000 scholarship to both the male and female athletes of the year annually. Tickets for the Kentucky Comedy Festival are now on sale at www.kentuckycomedyfestival.com. My new best friend, Brad Upton, has the most-viewed Dry Bar comedy special, with over 200 MILLION views. After writing stand-up for six years before he hit an open-mic, Brad finally decided to take the stage - then chickened out. He returned a year later and hasn't stopped. From his early days performing in Seattle, where Bill Nye (yes, THAT Bill Nye) was also a comic in the scene, we discuss his early days in comedy, opening for Joan Rivers, and Dolly Parton and touring with Johnny Mathis to his extremely wild success forty years into his career. BONUS: Brad tells one of the wildest stories I've ever heard on my Podcast: The Diamond Princess - the cruise ship where the first COVID case was discovered and then quarantined in Japan in January 2020 - Brad was the comic on the ship that week. Fun chat, give it a listen! Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora. The world is discovering comedian Brad Upton after 36 years in the standup business. This week Andrew and Cory are joined by "Dry Bar Comedy" Kind, Brad Upton. They talk about how eager they are to take the vaccine so they can go back to not getting laughs in person. This is a show that I really enjoyed doing. The comedy of Brad Upton and Bill Engvall plus some great music. Be sure to also check out Green Valley Radio Here. http://stream.zeno.fm/5pbch84mw4zuv
Brad Upton has one of the strongest, cleverest, and cleanest acts in the country. With over 140 million views on Dry Bar Comedy and 12 years as the opening act for Johnny Mathis, the last thing Brad Upton needs are "story jokes". But we thought it would be interesting to do some episodes where we talk with great comedians about "street jokes", jokes written by other people that most of us would only tell off stage to each other. And since we're all under quarantine until who knows when, we were able to catch Brad at home - a rarity up until this March. Brad is one of the most likable, down to earth guys around and we know you'll enjoy hanging out with this NW Comedy icon as much as we did.

Ring in the new year with comedy from legend BILL HICKS, tales from the Olympics and more from BRAD UPTON, plus CHRISTIAN FINNEGAN, and more!
In this episode I sit down with Veteran Comedian from Seattle, Brad Upton who after 34 years into his career, had a couple of brilliant stand up videos go viral, giving him the break he much deserved. In this episode he talks about making peace with one's career, about the things in life that are more important than one's career and about what he's learned about life and comedy in the last 35 years. Also joining me on this podcast is Krutika Jawanjal who is a comic from Bangalore who is instrumental in getting Brad on this Podcast.

One word - OUTSTANDING! Our featured comedian kills his set while talking about getting older, entering his birth year online, riding escalators, life pre-cell phones, and millennials.
Relive 2017 with part two of our highlights from last year. Brad Upton has been entertaining audiences for 33 years. And he still kills! Join Ryan and Ruban as they discuss Rocky (of course) but also humor and the life of a comedian. We have professional comedian Brad Upton schooling us on how to be funny. We need all the help we can get. Brad Upton first stepped on stage in September of 1984 and he's never looked back. In 2014 Brad headlined in Singapore, Hong Kong, The MGM in Macau and did eight nights in Israel as part of the Comedy for Koby benefit. His new CD entitled, "Brad Uptonogood" is heard regularly on Sirius Satellite Radio and is available online wherever music is sold. Monica and Mike are joined by comedian and great person Brad Upton! We talk about cruise ships, ...
Comedian Brad Upton A magician and a comedian do a podcast– on a cruise ship. I don’t have a punchline but we’re probably both bloated. Enjoy. Being an entertainer who works cruise shops a lot you meet interesting people. Or at least your chances are higher. Working on ships is very competitive right now and the quality of the acts is showing that. Cruise lines are actively trying to becoming more hip. The chances of meeting interesting people who are a little more unique, fun or down right weird — it’s just greatly intensified at sea. The way I see it there are the following 4 stages of the shiplife: The Occasionals or the Newbs (newbs is the short form for newbies– which used to be a short form for something) opportunity feels great to this group– It’s exciting times. Fulltimers — they work ships full time. Most of their years income gets served with a plated breakfast and and a bathrobe. Unless your work Carnival. Apparently, I dunno that’s what I’ve been told. After the full timers we get Kickassers– this is the acts or groups that have a little extra sparkle, or in some cases extra pat on the back from the cruise line bookers, aka agents. Legends — the acts who have trampled over the ocassionalists and the newbs to earn the wisdom of fulltimers and keep their kickassers nametag– these are the full time ass kicking legends. I said I’m in walking in Fulltimer Ass Kisser territory or at least I’m stepping in patches of it and Brad is walking with legends. Brad gives several nuggets and wisdom for performers through stories about his career– and we both discuss some of the oddities of ship life. You’ll hear: Get To the Funny Part– how he writes the funniest possible joke. An entertainers career at really difficult times of life The complexities of adding new material. What comes first? The better you get the better your own standards get. Confidence the real secret to being a good performer? When confidence is most important. Wanna be a comedian– A logical action to take for an ideal first step If you are listening for the first time Touring Tricks is also the name of my weekly webseries which you should check out– http://www.youtube.com/ryanjoycemagic or http://www.facebook.com/ryanjoycemagic.
