GTP host Steve Lowery is leading the conservation today with special guest Maxey Scherr, the founder of Scherr Law Firm in El Paso, Texas. They explore the complexities of an extraordinary case, Mendoza vs. Titan Transportation, where Maxey secured a verdict of over $16 million for her client, Ruben Ivan Mendoza. Remember to rate and review GTP on Apple Podcasts: Click Here to Rate and Review Case Details: The case revolved around a severe truck crash in Dallas County, Texas, where Ruben Mendoza, the driver of a pickup truck leased by Titan Transportation, was rear-ended by a truck owned by DSX Transportation. Despite the defense's attempts to frame Mendoza as an independent contractor, Maxey successfully proved that he was an employee in the course and scope of his employment, showcasing Titan's negligence in his lack of training and safety protocols. In this episode, Kateryna Ruban talks with Zsófia Lóránd about how the history of abortion in Ukraine and Soviet Union can help us understand contemporary reproductive struggles and modern Ukrainian history. Kateryna's future book tells a story of a female obstetrician-gynecologist in a postwar Transcarpathian hospital who performed abortions during Stalinism when abortion was illegal and later, showcases a doctor who insisted on professional autonomy despite the desire of political leaders to fully control the procedure. Abortion was a matter of intense public debates before 1917 and particularly in the 1920s, when many doctors argued that abortion was a part of female emancipation and a part of justified desire of women to regulate their reproduction. What happened next is usually seen as overwhelming Soviet pronatalism, but Kateryna shows a different picture of how women were able to maneuver within official policies and gain access to abortion. She focuses on Ukrainian and Transcarpathian contexts, thus departing from traditional portrayal of Soviet women as a whole and the Soviet history of abortion as based on central Russian archives. Kateryna Ruban is a historian who received her Ph.D. from New York University in September 2022. In 2022-2023, she was a fellow at the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at George Washington University. Earlier, Kateryna earned master's degrees at Central European University in Hungary and at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Ukraine. She was a part of the Visual Culture Research Center in Kyiv. Kateryna Ruban was a Ukraine Fellow with RECET in 2024.

This podcast interview focuses on the entrepreneurial journey to redefine the way we learn and solve the growing skills gap. My guest is Ruban Phukan, CEO of Goodgist. Ruban is a serial entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience building technology products that solve real-world problems. He's written books about AI and holds several patents in this field. He was part of Yahoo's first data scientist team, collaborating closely with co-founder David Filo to use data to address complex business problems. In 2005, he co-founded Bixee.com, India's first vertical search engine employing patented technology. This company then merged with market leader MakeMyTrip and DataRPM, a pioneering Enterprise AI platform for industrial IoT, which was then acquired by Progress Software in 2017. He 2019 he co-founded GoodTrade.AI, an asset management and investment analysis platform centred around Generative AI. Most recently he co-founded GoodGist, an AI startup for upskilling and research that tackles the challenges of scaling corporate skill development. Their mission: To organize the world's knowledge and make it universally accessible, conversational, and digestible in bite-sized chunks on demand. Their belief is that this creates a significant moat for their clients against competitors in today's fast-paced landscape, And this inspired me, and hence I invited Ruban to my podcast. We explore the challenges of continuous learning in today's fast-paced technological environment. He explains his first principles for making his strategic bets and why he opts to take a platform approach rather than a point solution approach. Last but not least, he explains his lessons from niching down and verticalizing his GTM approach around the platform. Here's one of his quotes We don't try to build a custom solution for a custom problem. We try to look at the problem and say, 'Okay, so we are not trying to only solve for a gas turbine failure, how do we build that technology, so that now instead of just only solving for data coming out of gas turbines, it can also look at data coming out of smart cars? How can it also handle data coming out of smart televisions? So, the focus has always been in trying to understand the problem and try to generalize, so that it can solve more business use cases, without having to recreate something new every single time. During this interview, you will learn four things: How he's accelerating traction by packaging his horizontal platform around highly valuable & business-critical problems. How he goes about successfully serving the mid-market and large enterprise companies in their own unique ways. His approach to identifying new value possibilities in the market that are worth building solutions for. How he makes decisions on what to invest in, and what not. With technology advancing rapidly, have you ever stopped to think if our style of learning should be advancing with it? The term information overload is nothing new, but what are we doing to address it? That's where Ruban Phukan steps in. He's an entrepreneur who sat down with Erick Espinosa for this episode of Brains Byte Back to discuss the issue of traditional learning in a world where time is a luxury. However, we're still expected to learn about technological changes in our respective industries and apply it to our work at the same speed technology is advancing. Ruban says there is a better way, and it's called GoodGist. One-third of an employee's day is spent researching information online. It highlights that much of their time is dedicated to researching rather than applying, essentially eating away at productivity. This ignited Ruban's idea for GoodGist, an AI software that helps companies support, learn, and grow through a centralized platform that delivers specific learning modules to individuals based on their work requirements. About the Guest(s): Ruben Diaz is an experienced AAU director, event coordinator, and self-described dream maker within the basketball industry. With a history spanning over 16 years, Ruben Diaz has been at the forefront of cultivating young talent in basketball. His expertise in coaching and networking has greatly influenced the trajectories of many aspiring athletes, guiding them towards successful collegiate basketball careers. Episode Summary: In this episode of the podcast, host Ashley Roberts engages in a candid conversation with Ruben Diaz, touching upon the evolving landscape of AAU basketball and the challenges facing players, coaches, and parents today. From the outset, the discussion sets a tone of honesty as Ruben shares his thoughts on the importance of proving one's capabilities on the court rather than riding the wave of unproven hype. This jam-packed episode not only scrutinizes the intricacies of basketball recruiting but also takes a hard look at the implications of the transfer portal and the struggles of independent teams amid a sea of leagues. Ruben Diaz offers sage advice for parents, emphasizing the necessity of research and understanding the AAU system's track record. He draws from his wealth of experience to outline strategies coaches can utilize to ensure athletes are seen by college scouts. Furthermore, the dialogue reveals the rationale behind Ruben's event, the Border War, which caters to Division II, NAIA, and JUCO programs, fulfilling a unique need within the athletic community. Notable Quotes: It's crucial for athletes to prove their abilities against top competition rather than relying on promotional hype to catch the attention of college coaches. Successful basketball programs require honesty in talent evaluation, and coaches should mentor up-and-coming coaches to foster accurate talent assessments. Relationships and direct communication with college coaches are key for AAU programs to ensure their players get noticed during non-live and live periods. Independent teams may face challenges making a solid schedule, but clubs in recognized leagues generally have a better chance of getting their players recruited. "The biggest thing for a parent is the track record. History is history." "If your team is showing up hoping that coaches come watch, you already lost." "Building relationships. Cultivate those relationships with college coaches, with talent, with evaluators, and then over time, you'll build a reputation." On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of New Zealanders who've forged incredible careers in music and comedy and comedic music: Jemaine Clement and Ruban Nielson. I'm guessing Clement is best known to our listeners as half of Flight of the Conchords, his musical and acting duo with Bret McKenzie. They haven't put out a record or toured much in the last decade or so, but their albums and HBO series definitely endure with their subtle hilarity. Clement has of course been plenty busy post-Conchords as both an actor and director. His 2014 mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, co-directed with his old friend Taika Watiti, spun off into one of the funniest shows on TV, and you've also heard or seen him in everything from Despicable Me to the latest Avatar movie. In the awful event that you're not familiar with Flight of the Conchords, here's their David Bowie tribute, simply called “Bowie,” which is discussed a bit in this episode. Clement seemed excited—and well prepared!—to speak with Ruban Nielson, the singer-guitarist behind Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Though both of these guys are, as I said, from New Zealand and fans of each other's work, they had never met before. UMO, as Nielson's band is known for short, has been making a sort of uncategorizable music since 2010; they most often get pegged as psychedelic rock, which isn't wrong, but also doesn't tell the whole story. There are also elements of lo-fi indie rock, a bit of funk, and some garage rock. But the fact that it's tough to name is part of what makes UMO's music so appealing. Check out a little their song “The Garden,” which opens the latest UMO album, V. These guys have a fantastic conversation that spans everything from the history of New Zealand and their shared Maori heritage to an in-depth examination of the Jagstang, a guitar designed by Kurt Cobain and favored by Nielson. They talk about bombing on stage—and getting bombed before getting on stage—and they share stories about coming up in a shared place. Also, you'll hear the phrase “sad funky ghost,” perhaps for the first and last time in your life. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Jemaine Clement and Ruban Nielson for chatting. If you like what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform, and be sure to check out all the goodies at Talkhouse.com. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!

When Moet Hennessy overhauled their finished whisky portfolio of Glenmo, they went ahead and added premium age statements, and in the case of the Quita Ruban, (always the port finished bottling), the results have been spectacular. At 14 years old, Quinta Ruban exhibits loads of chocolate covered oranges, malt, and a blast of sweet lemon. At 92 proof, and non-chill filtered the palate is downright chewy with the expressive malt from Scotland's tallest stills practically showing off. Bright, bold malt tamed and accented by dark fruit from the port barrel ageing. At 14 years this has all the depth and maturity of an 18yr old scotch, but without the crazy price tag.

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of New Zealanders who've forged incredible careers in music and comedy and comedic music: Jemaine Clement and Ruban Nielson. 'I killed Captain Cook' is the name of a single off Portland-based New Zealand psychedelic rock group Unknown Mortal Orchestra's album V which is released later this month. Frontman Ruban Nielson's Hawaiian heritage has been a key inspiration, and the song's video features footage of his mother, Deedee Aipolani Nielson, Miss Aloha Hula 1973.
Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Our guest in this episode Patricia Jackson from Ruban Bleu Weddings and Events in Dallas, Texas. Patricia loves seeing and making people happy. She's a true believer in love and enjoys hearing other people's love stories, which is what inspired her to get into the wedding industry. Patricia emphasizes the importance of taking room to breathe during the wedding planning process. She has seen so many couples forget to do just that. Her greatest piece of advice is to take it one day at a time rather than trying to accomplish everything at once. It can be helpful to make lists and give yourself plenty of time to check off what needs to be done. When you work with Ruban Bleu, they act as your personal secretary. You let them know what you want, and they will follow up and find the right venue for you. They don't add pressure or encourage making rash decisions. It's your wedding, and Patricia ensures you take the time you deserve and choose wisely. Patricia is only a phone call away for her clients. She's a planner, a people-pleaser, and strives to think outside of the box to find solutions. As a wedding planner, it's her job to breathe with the client when they are stressed and help them create the wedding day of their dreams. While doing so, she also helps you stay on budget so you can plan a wedding within your means. A man contacted Ruban Bleu out of Louisiana, and although they are out of town, he really wanted to work with them. He had a vision of proposing to his partner outside, having the venue situated like a restaurant. They were able to find the perfect spot to bring this vision to life. She walked him through it every step of the way, including mirroring getting on one knee so he wouldn't forget. It was one of the most memorable experiences of Patricia's career.
