In this episode of Create Like the Greats, Ross sits down with Jason Barnard, CEO of Kalicube to delve into the fundamentals of search engine optimization (SEO) and and Google's evolving understanding of search engine results pages (SERPs). They talked about the importance of educating Google to represent your brand, the role of content in SEO, building a knowledge graph, the significance of branding, the use of AI in SEO, and the impact of Google's NLP. Key Takeaways and Insights 1. Understanding Google's Evolution Google is no longer solely about SEO strategies but rather about comprehending the context and purpose behind content. Google's focus has shifted from keywords to understanding the intent and meaning behind the words used. This means that businesses can now influence how Google represents their brand by effectively educating it. 2. Balanced Digital Marketing Strategy While some believe that flooding the internet with content can boost their rankings, Jason discusses that a balanced approach is key. Google aims to present a comprehensive overview to its users, so it's important to have a digital marketing strategy that engages your audience effectively while maintaining quality and relevance. 3. The Importance of Branding Branding should take priority over marketing. Establishing a strong brand identity allows businesses to market effectively and package their marketing materials for search engines like Google and Bing, conveying who they are, what they do, who they serve, and their credibility as a solution. 4. The Role of AI in SEO Fundamentals of marketing and SEO should be prioritized over using AI to manipulate search rankings. SEOs possess unique insights and skills, and Google serves as a valuable indicator of digital marketing performance. Resources Kalicube - https://kalicube.com/ —

And it's this wild, strange niche that's actually applicable to everybody. Every person, every company, every film, every music album, every music group, every event, everyone" Jason Barnard is going to show you how important SEO is to the visibility and credibility of your brand. He's going to preview the solution or system he used to get increased visibility and credibility. He tells the story of how he found a niche in the SEO industry that is applicable to everyone. He talks about how he was endorsed by John Mueller, one of the main SEO experts at Google. He also talks about how he has a client who has 27,000 reviews with an average score of 4.7. He says that bad reviews are a part of life and that they can teach you what you need to improve. He also talks about how the type of content you have on your website does matter to Google. Here are the steps you need to follow to also get increased visibility and credibility: Google your brand regularly to see what comes up, and consider what your audience might be looking for when they do the same. If you have negative reviews, take the conversation off the platform to avoid any back-and-forth aggressiveness, and try to sort the problem out if you can. Understand that bad reviews are not necessarily a bad thing, as they can teach you what you can improve. Bad reviews can actually be a good thing, as they can teach you what needs to be improved. However, it is important to not take them too personally and to use them as constructive criticism. It is also essential to respond to bad reviews in a professional and positive manner, as this will show your audience that you are willing to listen to their feedback and make improvements. by doing so, you will only improve your business and reputation. Jason Barnard is an SEO expert who has found success in helping brands and businesses improve their visibility online. In this conversation, he outlines how he was able to find a niche in the SEO industry and how we can do the same. By creating content that is relevant and useful to your audience, you can improve your chances of ranking higher in search engine results pages. In this episode Gert had a delightful and very informative conversation with the widely known title of The Brand SERP Guy, Jason Barnard. Jason is an author and he used to be known as the Blue Dog cartoon character in Boowa and Kwala in 2007. Using the child analogy with the History teacher, the teacher is the authority on the subject of history, but not a good authority on how to bake a cake. This is where the Knowledge Panel comes into picture and how Google will present you to the searchers, e.g. who you are, what you have to offer, what is your brand, etc. Listen and learn how easy it is or how much less effort you can build up your Knowledge Panel using the Kalicube process than doing it manually. There's more to this episode that you can pick up especially on brand SERPs, so listen to the very end and make sure to download the transcript of the episode. Podcast Highlights: 01:05 Introduction of the episode, the guest and how did they get introduced 03:34 The background of Jason Barnard and how he got to correct Google in presenting him as the character Blue Dog. 04:56 Why is it important to connect the dots for Google to see the different properties that they will take into account, according to Gert? 06:26 What is the difference between branded and non-branded searches? On this episode of the podcast he shares his knowledge and insights in part 1 of a special two-part episode. My guest on this week's episode of Suds & Search is Jason Barnard, also known as the Brand SERP Guy. Jason is the owner of Kalicube, an online SaaS product offering all sorts of cool tools, guides, and training to optimize for a brand SERP. You might be asking… What is a brand SERP? How would someone go about optimizing for a brand SERP? No one has spent more time thinking about these questions than Jason Barnard. He is a frequent presenter at major conferences all over the world. You may have heard Jason present at BrightonSEO, PubCon, YoastCon, and many of the different SMX events. He is also one of the most popular and most listened to podcasters in the industry. His show, “With Jason Bernard…” is extremely well done. I'm going to ask him about the show and some of the extraordinary guests he's been able to have on. Jason is also a regular contributor to major industry publications including Search Engine Journal, Search Engine Land, and at the SEMrush blog. Brand SERPs are a really interesting topic to me because they involve just about every hot topic in SEO at the moment. Jason is well-versed discussing topics like Entities, the knowledge graph, knowledge panels, schema, and all the different ways AI could play into brand SERPs. I'm going to start our conversation breaking it all down with the master of brand SERPs. Grab something cold to drink and join me for a conversation with Jason Barnard. We'll talk about what people might be doing wrong with branded SERPs, we'll talk about his online training courses over at Kalicube, and we'll see if we can get Jason to sing a little song called SEO is AEO. Today, I chat with Jason Barnard for a second time. Jason's releasing a couple new courses that you should definitely check out.
Nathan Chalmers with Jason Barnard at The Bing Series Nathan Chalmers talks to Jason Barnard about the whole page algorithm. Nathan had done his homework by listening to previous episodes…. And he loves the song :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5kJFlMIHVU A year ago I didn't know about the bidding system in Google and Bing ranking... and 6 months ago I didn't know there was a whole page team. Now I get to learn how the latter affects the former. First up, I had called the bidding system “Darwinism in Search”. Turns out Darwin is the name of their algorithm that allocates the positions on the SERP to different rich elements. He tells me my initial analysis was good, but I made it all sound more mechanical than it truly is. Next reveal - there are 6 teams that work together to build the whole page, each with their own Darwinistic system, with the aim of creating the best user experience. The blue links are the base and they are NOT dying out, even if I thought they were. Then onto Brand SERPs - and although I had seen that they are nuanced, but I had underestimated just HOW nuanced. User behaviour on the SERP is key to the anatomy of that page of results. Whatever the SERP - Bing's aim is to get the user to success as fast as possible. Brilliant from Nathan - I would say that as he ends by saying “this whole Darwinism in Search thing is really cool”. Catch the rest of the Bing Series: How Ranking Works at Bing – Frédéric Dubut, Senior Program Manager Lead, BingDiscovering, Crawling, Extracting and Indexing at Bing – Fabrice Canel Principal Program Manager, BingHow the Q&A / Featured Snippet Algorithm Works – Ali Alvi, Principal Lead Program Manager AI Products, BingHow the Image and Video Algorithm Works – Meenaz Merchant, Principal Program Manager Lead, AI and Research, BingHow the Whole Page Algorithm Works – Nathan Chalmers, Program Manager, Search Relevance Team, Bing

John Morabito with Jason Barnard at Pubcon Las Vegas 2019 For once someone gets all over excited about Brand SERPs. I manage to keep reasonably quiet and let him talk, despite the fact I am over excited about it too. He actually does proper SEO audits on all terms that contain the brand name, and gives some super duper insights we should all be taking note of. So go out and manage your branded searches. Easy win, and vitally important.

I manage to keep reasonably quiet and let him talk, despite the fact I am over excited about it too. He actually does proper SEO audits on all terms that contain the brand name, and gives some super duper insights we should all be taking note of. So go out and manage your branded searches. Easy win, and vitally important.

Lily Ray with Jason Barnard at BrightonSEO April 2019 Lily Ray talks with Jason Barnard (The Brand SERP Guy) about E-A-T, the how, they why and the what to do! John Bonham, Keith Moon … Lily Ray. Rock drummer icons all :) Lily sets herself apart because a) she is alive and b) she knows boatloads about E-A-T. We discuss August and March updates. I suggest that Google has a slap-and-reward system. Lily politely ignores that, and gives some very encouraging information about E-A-T. Much of it is an easy fix. She then identifies what the constituent parts of building E-A-T really are. I ask for a lot of free advice. And Lily very kindly gives it to me – she is super practical and smart. We now need to be obsessed by Brand SERPs. And even gossip sites can be useful, as can comic sites… as long as they provide useful information. Pure buzz has no long term value. Trust rank is (perhaps) a thing? Then Lily finishes with a wonderful summary of the fundamental point of an SEO's job.

Arnout Hellemans with Jason Barnard at YoastCon 2019 Arnout Hellemans talks with Jason Barnard about trust-building without links. A lovely conversation where we cover mentions, links, linkless links, the knowledge graph, Brand SERPs and reputation. Sounds like a bit of a mix, but in fact it all makes a lot of sense. Thanks, Arnout !
