A direct “black” to “white” transferAny company that launched a race-specific grant or loan program after 2020 is now officially in the DOJ's crosshairs, and "social justice" is being litigated as "civil rights fraud."PayPal board:“Independent” chair David W. A Court Finally Exposed ItThis whole saga centers on a major legal showdown between the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The case is a consolidated lawsuit (often called the NEH-DOGE lawsuit) filed in May 2025 by groups including the Authors Guild, the American Historical Association, and the Modern Language Association. On May 7, 2026, U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon issued a massive 143-page ruling. She essentially nuked DOGE's attempt to defund hundreds of humanities projects, calling their process a "textbook example of unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination."The AI Purge: Instead of a professional review, DOGE staffers (described in court as young "technologists" with no background in humanities) ran thousands of grant descriptions through ChatGPT.DOGE staffers—mostly described as 20-somethings with "zero experience in the humanities"—attempted to dodge government transparency laws by conducting official business on Signal with auto-delete enabled. The court found this was a blatant violation of the Federal Records Act, proving that "efficiency" is often just code for "avoiding a paper trail."The Woke Filter: They told the AI to flag anything related to "DEI." This backfired spectacularly when the AI flagged projects on Holocaust survivors, Appalachian history, and Italian-American archives simply because they used words like "identity," "culture," or "women."DOGE didn't actually read the grants they cut. Instead, they used ChatGPT and basic keyword searches to flag any program containing "incriminating" words like "history," "culture," "identity," or "BIPOC." If the AI thought it sounded "woke," the funding was axed—a move Judge Colleen McMahon called a "textbook example of unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination."In perhaps the most "mask-off" moment of the proceedings, it was revealed that DOGE staffers flagged and canceled a documentary about Jewish women's slave labor during the Holocaust. The reason? Their AI-driven filter decided that focusing on "Jewish cultures" and "female voices" made it an illegal DEI program. Apparently, documenting Nazi atrocities is now "radical identity politics."The ruling highlighted a minor detail the administration seemed to forget: DOGE isn't a real government agency. The judge noted that DOGE had absolutely no lawful authority to terminate congressionally appropriated funds. They were essentially a group of private-sector bros playing President with the NEH checkbookThe Redirect: The court found that the $100 million "saved" wasn't actually returned to the Treasury. Instead, it was being funneled into the administration's own projects, like the "National Garden of American Heroes."Why Two Big Companies Just Cut Paid Family Leave MMFor the last decade, a tight labor market forced companies to compete for talent with generous perks. Now, with the job market cooling and employees having less leverage to quit, companies like Deloitte and Zoom are quietly rolling back benefits.Zoom, the company that became the face of remote work, has slashed its paid parental leave. Birthing parents saw their leave drop from up to 24 weeks to 18 weeks, while non-birthing parents were cut from 16 weeks down to 10.Deloitte is making deep cuts, but not for everyone. The reductions specifically target “Center” employees—the administrative, IT, and finance support staff who generally earn less—rather than the high-earning consultants. Their leave was halved from 16 weeks to just eight.Beyond just time off, Deloitte is axing its $50,000 reimbursement program for adoption, surrogacy, and IVF for these support roles.I Hate Working 5 Days': Zoom CEO Eric Yuan Says AI Could Shrink Workweeks To 3 Days In A Major Future ShiftGoodliest of the Week (MM/DR):DR: Chipotle CEO [Scott Boatwright] tells customers to ‘just ask' if they want bigger portions after downsizing accusations: “You should ask for a little more ... Bruce Carter - St. Pauls Funal Remarks
Episode 134: Bruce J. Carter has a Ph.D. in public policy and he's written Water Wars: Sharing the Colorado river with Doug Cooper. Bruce received his B.B.A. from Savannah State University, his M.A. from Webster University, and his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University. Recently, he received his Executive Certificate from Harvard University in Public Policy: Social, Economic, and Foreign Policies, and an Executive Certificate from Cornell University Hands-on Introduction to Mechanical Engineering Simulations. For Bruce, writing is a form of political engagement. While serving in the U.S Military, Bruce has deployed around the world. Through his deployments, he began to understand how a person could write about the world's problems compellingly and beautifully. Bruce currently lives in D.C. with his family. He acknowledges that his work is not about him. If you want a slice of life, look out the window. An author must look out that window, isolate one or two suggestive things, and embroider them together with life and fabrication to create a revelation. Had the pleasure of meeting Bruce Carter and his crew from Black Men for Bernie, at the grand opening of their office in North Philadelphia (905 N. Broad Street). So much thanks to Alicia for inviting me, and to Darryl for training me on the ins-and-outs of what they do and how they do it. I got to watch Black Men for Bernie in action for five hours. Organizing, planning, hiring people, and the business and marketing concepts that surround it all. Before I arrived, my own goal for helping Bernie Sanders win New Jersey, was to talk to groups of people, so I can educate them about Bernie Sanders. But after leaving them, that goal changed to "reaching as many people as possible", and Black Men for Bernie knows how to reach them in a way that I could never achieve on my own. The best way that I can help Bernie Sanders is to help *them* reach the people in my community (Burlington County and Camden). While I may not do as much of the talking and teaching as I originally wanted, that's okay, because what the real goal is, is to get this great man elected. And helping Bruce and Black Men for Bernie is exactly what's going to make that happen.

A damp, dank and overcast Sunday in London, feeling that atmospheric pressure, a bit of a low, trying too keep my head above the clouds all the same. I was wondering what kind of Cosmic Jam I'd be assembling for later on when I get a phone call from If Music's Jean Claude Thompson, informing me that the legendary Wayne Henderson had passed away…. now I didn't want to get ensnared in a debacle like the recent misreporting of Horace Silver's demise. However it soon transpired that the news had come via Bobbi Humphrey's Facebook page and a kindred Texas musician was unlikely to be dealing with rumours, so it was true, another phenomenal talent had passed away. It strikes me as I write this once again that every time such a figure departs this mortal coil, we are all the more impoverished, gradually we're losing a generation of musicians who came through the travails of a very different America, steeped in the traditions of the Deep South, in the music of the church, and in the pioneering spirit of jazz in the post bop years, it was a unique pedigree that the likes of Wayne Henderson brought to bear on the world of music, both as a player and as a producer. So there are no words that can express the sense of loss, when you consider Henderson's legacy, it's just too staggeringly immense, from the young Jazz Crusader playing righteous hard bop for Dick Bock's Pacific Jazz label (the flip side to the clichéd image of West Coast "cool jazz") to the producer of so many great albums for his At-Home Productions stable, Wayne Henderson is definitely up there in the pantheon of the greats, a gargantuan contribution to the history of Black music. Perhaps his decision to leave the Crusaders at the height of their success was telling, though Henderson had definitely made his mark as a composer and player, being a part of a group with two other writers was maybe too limited and the challenges and rewards of the producer's role definitely lured Henderson down a different path. I think his phenomenal success in that respect during a golden period in the latter half of the seventies is testimony to the man's spirit, nobody makes such great music without the love, his obvious ability to nurture younger musicians and to harness the right energy in the studio is born out by the results, a peerless string of albums that sums up the period perhaps better than any other body of work. From the funky jams of Pleasure through fusion and jazz-funk to the soulful shades of Side Effect and others, the sound of At-Home productions, always brimming with fine arrangements and great playing pivoting on rhythm tracks that are second to none. So many of those rhythm tracks were laid down by the core of Pleasure, with Bruce Carter and Nathaniel Phillips' phenomenal bass and drums underpinning proceedings, it was just one of those things that was meant to be. However even the productions that don't feature that particular dream team still feature some serious depth in the foundations, Henderson knew how to build a tune, and the importance of groove. So his career kind of nose dived in the eighties, which I think in time will prove providential for his reputation, the At-Home production sound was never polluted by the changes to the sonic aesthetic that came to the fore in that decade. When one picks up an album that bears the legend of the At-Home moniker there's a guarantee of a warm analogue sound and a rich soulfulness, I can't think of a better epithet to sum up his legacy. Of course Henderson was a brilliant player, and a composer of some great "down home" tunes, and even that aspect of his work would rank as a phenomenal achievement, however his productions spin the legacy skyward and beyond, the man was stellar. 1.
