The noisy crowd of Revelation seven is interrupted by the silence of chapter eight. As a prelude to judgement, we are confronted by the significance of our prayers. In today's sermon, we are challenged to consider how the model prayer given to us by Jesus is answered in the Last Days. Prayer is a fascinating human pastime. Prayer is a widely practiced spiritual discipline in America & across the world. According to Pew Research, 55% of Americans say they pray every day, 21% say they pray weekly or monthly, 20% of people who consider themselves unaffiliated with any religion say they pray daily. 65 and older are far more likely than adults under 30 to say they pray daily (65% vs. 41%). Prayer is easiest thing a follower of Jesus can do. It’s also the easiest thing to neglect, easy to abuse, or misunderstand. What things do you pray for most often? Healing, especially for friends & family are a big % of our prayers for sure. Are there types of prayers God loves more than others? Do you ever wonder if God likes or hears your prayers? On April 28, 2022, historian Jane Turner Censer presented a lecture about the literary career of Amélie Rives. By 1890, Amélie Rives was well-known all over America, both as the author of a scandalous novel and as a beauty who had married a very wealthy heir of New York's Astor family. Only five years earlier, Rives, then a twenty-two-year-old living in the family plantation outside Charlottesville, had burst upon the literary scene with a short story in the "Atlantic Monthly," arguably the nation's most prestigious literary magazine, and a poem in the highly regarded Century Illustrated Monthly. Jane Turner Censer draws from her new biography, "The Princess of Albemarle: Amélie Rives, Author and Celebrity at the Fin de Siècle," to explain how Rives went from anonymity to a household name. In her quest to become a published author, Rives deployed charm, unconventional behavior, and family connections to bring her stories and poems to the notice of prominent publishers. Censer also indicates how Rives, while achieving celebrity and a literary career, struggled with the expectations of her society, her family, and her own notions about propriety. Jane Turner Censer, Professor Emerita of History at George Mason University, is a specialist on the nineteenth-century United States and southern women. Her essays and prize-winning articles have appeared in numerous journals including the Journal of Southern History, Comparative Studies in Society and History, American Journal of Legal History, Southern Cultures, and American Quarterly. In 2017–18 she served as president of the Southern Historical Association. Today we pick up with Jesus opening the seventh seal, and revealing the next series or wave of judgments known as the seven trumpets. Something unique happens when Jesus opens this seal that is different from the others. Also, there is a precursor to the trumpet judgements beginning. It is called the Golden Censer, and it brings a warning judgement of what is to come next. You can also look at it like a start gun that is fired to begin a race. The Golden Censer is thrown to earth signaling the 7 angels to began sounding their trumpets. What the Christian world needs today is a good publication. I found that the one, like two centuries ago, entitled Sound Words, would fit into today's world. Times change but people stay the same. My plan is to republish this magazine, but I am not sure I will get through all 98 volumes. I will read through all the articles and do the ones that seem to fit our times. Let us start out with the original introduction. ‘An Outline of Sound Words' — Introduction In his second epistle to Timothy, the apostle Paul enjoined his beloved child to “have an outline of sound words,” and to “keep by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us, the good deposit entrusted.” This injunction, in the holy Scriptures, comes to us that we might know how to hold fast the truth of God in these last days, when it is being given up on every hand, and when its heavenly power over the hearts of God's dear saints is being lost, with consequent departure from the path of God's will. We do well to realize that the truth cannot be maintained unless the doctrine encompassed in the outline of sound words is held intelligently and tenaciously, or without the spiritual condition, consonant with the doctrine, produced in the heart by the Holy Spirit. With the true knowledge of the doctrine, and with hearts answering to it by the working of the Spirit, there will be the manifestation of the truth in the lives of God's dear saints, where indeed, it is to be held according to the mind of God. If the Lord will, we hope to send out this little magazine occasionally; desiring and praying that the Head of the body, the assembly, our Lord Jesus Christ, will furnish it with ministry that will help His beloved saints in the apprehension of the precious truth of God, and encourage their exercises towards its manifestation in their lives. We also discuss the updates to the definition of sepsis, and the criteria for diagnosing a patient with sepsis. In this episode, we discuss SOFA, and QSOFA, as well as the elimination of SIRS and "Severe Sepsis" from the sepsis spectrum. Join us as we dive in to the pathophysiology of septic shock, and how fluid administration is still considered a staple treatment. We discuss how third spacing occurs secondary to overzealous fluid administration, resulting in potential worsening of hypoperfused tissues and organs. In this episode, we also discuss the ProMISe, ARISE, and CENSER trials, and discuss the suggestions of early vasopressor therapy using norepinephrine has proven to be beneficial.
