Rarely has there been an episode of the Gaming News Canada Show for some time now where artificial intelligence doesn't come up in our conversations with leaders, experts and media folks. Your humble host recently finished Superintelligence: Is Canada Ready for AI? published by The Logic and was inspired to delve deeper into the world of AI as it relates to the business of gaming and sports business. Enter Seth Schorr, the CEO of Fifth Street Gaming and founding partner of GMA Consulting. Schorr made his maiden appearance on the podcast and detailed the use of AI in both his professional and personal life these days, and the many ways it's being exploited across the industry he's been a part of for more than 25 years since his early days at The Mirage and Wynn Resorts in Las Vegas. The Fifth Street Gaming boss also got into the evolution of AI globally in the gambling business- in responsible gaming programs, content and on-site at bricks-and-mortar casinos - the efficiencies it provides and the ongoing need for human resources to support its use. Schorr also gave a shoutout to both ChatGPT and Gamma, which uses AI to produce presentations and decks. We also asked Schorr to look into his crystal ball at how AI will continue to evolve. Schorr writes: “In his book, Smerconish argued against a Department of Transportation policy that ‘precluded more than two individuals of any particular ethnicity from being singled out at the same time for secondary screening at airports.'” You can read the full story here: https://www.mediaite.com/news/cnns-michael-smerconish-disinvited-from-college-commencement-over-comments-from-2004/ 4:20pm- After leaving court on Monday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump revealed that his “hush money” trial may last another 2 to 3 weeks—which will keep him off the campaign trail. 4:40pm- George Leef of National Review writes: “Let's look at the new California minimum wage law for workers in fast food businesses and see how it has been working out.  Professor Lee Ohanian has done some digging and writes about his findings in [his] piece for Independent Institute. Ukraine received assistance immediately—why was Israel forced to wait? 5:00pm- In his Wall Street Journal editorial, Ralph Reed writes about the media's continued attempts to smear Christians in America. He explains: “House Speaker Mike Johnson stared down anti-Israel protesters at Columbia University last month and affirmed the nation's support for Jewish students. His remarks were sharp and unequivocal, a welcome contrast with university officials' hand-wringing and the Biden administration's feeble response to the antisemitism sweeping across the states. Yet rather than give him credit, Democrats and the press for months have fixated on Mr. Johnson's background as a ‘Christian nationalist.' The New Republic claimed he'd been ‘groomed by the Christian right' in ‘secretive circles' to ‘rule the United States according to ‘biblical values.'' Robert Jones, president of the Public Religion Research Institute, described Mr. Johnson as ‘the embodiment of white Christian nationalism in a tailored suit.'” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-smear-campaign-against-christian-nationalists-faith-freedom-f3954994?mod=opinion_lead_pos5 5:30pm- The Toobin Missile Crisis! And on Sunday night, Netflix hosted their roast of former NFL quarterback Tom Brady. 6:05pm- While speaking briefly with the press on Monday prior to entering court in New York City, President Donald Trump said the gag order imposed on him by Judge Juan Merchan is “not fair” and argued that the scope of the gag order infringes upon his constitutional right to free speech. On Monday, Judge Merchan fined Trump $1,000 for violating the gag order and emphasized that continued violations could result in Trump being sent to jail. 6:15pm- On Monday, former Press Secretary—and current MSNBC host—Jen Psaki stated that she did not believe it's necessary for President Joe Biden to do more press conferences in order to win reelection in 2024. 6:20pm- After leaving court on Monday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump revealed that his “hush money” trial may last another 2 to 3 weeks—which will keep him off the campaign trail. 6:25pm- In a soon to be released book, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem reveals that she shot and killed a 14-month-old dog and a goat after the two animals misbehaved. Republicans and Democrats alike have rightfully spoken out against her actions, though she has defended herself explaining the incident is proof she is capable of making tough decisions. Did she just end her political career? It certainly seems like it. 6:30pm- Shia Kapos of Politico investigated the source of funding for anti-Israel protests on college campuses. Unsurprisingly, the biggest funders also happen to be some of President Joe Biden's biggest campaign donors—including George Soros and the Pritzker family. It all begins with a fun interview with Paul Cornell and Rachael Smith from Who Killed Nessie? on Zoop.gg! Here's how this book is described: “Every year, legendary creatures from all over the world gather for an annual convention. But never has there been a murder. It's a comedy cryptozoological whodunnit about finding confidence through rationality and accepting a world of mysteries… by solving one.” We talk about who the characters are, how this convention story resembles real-life gatherings, and explore what else is coming soon from these great creators! Be sure you back this project before it concludes on Thursday, April 25! Then everything concludes with the return of Matt Schorr, who has a new Kickstarter underway for Jesus Christ: Demon Slayer. Here's the description: “Legends are whispered in the darkest corners of Damnation describing a time when the Son of God entered their domain to challenge Lucifer himself. Known for his teachings of peace on Earth, the Messiah waged a one-man war across the Shores of Hell, slaughtering any demon, devil or false god foolish enough to stand in his way. Now, the story can be told... .” We discuss how this story came to be, who the characters are, and what else Matt and his Schorr Manor Studio have heading our way in the months ahead! Be sure to back this Kickstarter before it concludes on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 12:48 p.m. EDT. Show your thanks to Major Spoilers for this episode by becoming a Major Spoilers Patreon member. In this conversation, James Schorr, a senior director in the cloud platform area, discusses platform engineering and its impact on developers. Platform engineering is the next evolution of DevOps, aiming to provide a consistent and easy-to-use platform for developers. It simplifies the developer experience by reducing the cognitive load and allowing developers to focus on writing code. The goal is to make the developer's life easier and provide a self-service platform. The platform engineering team aims to meet the needs of developers using different programming languages and frameworks. The skills needed for integrating with platform engineering include understanding CI/CD pipelines and configuration management. In this conversation, James Schorr and Krish discuss various aspects of platform engineering. They cover topics such as understanding Kubernetes and serverless, concerns about learning and vendor lock-in, balancing ease of use and continuous learning, the job market for platform engineering, and the suitability of platform engineering for different organizations. Takeaways Platform engineering is the next evolution of DevOps, providing a consistent and easy-to-use platform for developers. The goal of platform engineering is to simplify the developer experience and reduce the cognitive load on developers. Platform engineering aims to provide a self-service platform, allowing developers to focus on writing code. Developers should have the freedom to choose their preferred programming languages and frameworks, while the platform engineering team focuses on providing the necessary tools and support. Skills needed for integrating with platform engineering include understanding CI/CD pipelines and configuration management. It is important to understand the underlying concepts of Kubernetes and serverless, as the specific tools and implementations may vary between companies. Learning and adapting to different platform engineering tools and approaches is necessary, but it can be a concern for consultants or individuals who may need to switch organizations. Continuous learning is essential for personal growth and should not be solely dependent on the organization or platform engineering team. Platform engineering skills, along with security and integration expertise, are in high demand in the job market. Platform engineering is more suitable for medium to large-sized organizations that can dedicate resources to manage and maintain the platform. In this fun conversation with Meredith Schorr, we talked about using backstory in your book as well as what happens when your main characters don't have the chemistry you thought they would, and how to fix it. We also chatted about importance of giving kind feedback as well as how to receive feedback. Meredith shared some tips from having worked with aspiring authors as an author mentor, including how this role has strengthened her own writing. This was a turning point for him to find his way to Crayola. In his position, he aims to keep the company fresh, relevant and authentically aligned with the company's mission and vision - to help parents and educators raise creatively alive kids and ask the question, “what if?” Warren has been a pivotal contributor on projects such as the “Crayola Experience,” “Colors of the World,” “Colors of Kindness” and many more, that are the physical manifestations of the company's mission and one of the reasons that make Warren to be excited about his beloved work each and every day. Tune in for a colorful and thought-provoking conversation!  Some powerful takeaways from today's episode: A company's mission / a personal mission should be at the forefront of everything that is done. Rob has a particular passion for bats, which can be somewhat elusive and challenging to study given where they often roost. That's where climbers come in. Around 10 years ago, Rob recognized an opportunity to partner with climbers to expand research on bat ecology. Since climbers and bats share the same vertical landscape, climbers are able to provide Rob and other scientists with information that they could not gather from capturing bats on the ground. Bats are largely misunderstood by the public. Rob's work demystifies these unique animals while also gaining a better understanding of bat ecology and conservation.
