Talk Art Season 27 continues with COLLIER SCHORR.Over four decades, Collier Schorr has used photography to scrutinise the conditions and realities of contemporary subjectivity and what it means to visually represent a body - and a self. Motivated, in part, by an underlying search for alternatives to the desirous heterosexual gaze; her work has remained focused on several key themes including beauty, desire, selfhood, and masculinity and its discontents. Schorr's early work was made in the 1980s and 1990s in New York and Germany, during the coalescence of postmodernism and identity politics. Her work from that period navigated the tension between documentary and fiction, and tested out the capacity of photography to unveil desire and repression, explore taboo identities, and highlight the contradictions inherent in subjectivity, especially in relation to gender norms. In more recent times, the artist has incorporated dance into her practice predominantly through adapting Chantal Ackerman's film, ‘Je Tu Il Elle' (1975), into a full-length filmed ballet performance featuring Schorr as Ackerman and a core group of professional dancers collaborating to create a multi-channel video installation.Schorr's new exhibition in Paris is now open. ‘Problems and other stories' brings together photographs, collages, notes, drawings and video produced over the past seven years that reconsider who an artwork is for, the multitude of places people belong and the way Schorr encounters different worlds. The title is drawn from John Updike's collection of short stories written over the 1970s. For Schorr, the ‘problem' opens out into a place of resistance and exploration, rather than a limitation or constraint. Runs until 4th April at Modern Art, Paris. This week, we tip our hats to the trailblazing all (or mostly) girl bands of alternative rock. Speaking of the trailblazers, today's ceremonial Third Lad certainly is one. As a musician and songwriter, Genny Schorr (aka Genny Body) was a member of one of the first mostly female punk bands in LA, Backstage Pass, along with past O3L guest Marina Muhlfriedel (aka Marina Del Rey), Joanna Spock Dean, and Holly Beth Vincent, later of Holly & The Italians (of “Tell That Girl To Shut Up” fame).  They were critical in the launch of legendary LA punk club The Masque.  They landed a track on Rhino Records' seminal LA punk comp, Saturday Night Pogo.  They played with, and their story intertwines with, a jaw-dropping list of punk, new wave, and rock heroes.  After Backstage Pass, she was invited to be in the Go-Go's.  She owned the influential rock n' roll clothing boutique Strait Jacket with Stiff Records' impresario Jake Rivera, which launched a long career as a wardrobe designer and stylist to the stars.  Many of those stylish videos, album covers, and magazine shoots you love from the ‘80s?  Genny had a hand in sculpting the look.  She lived with and toured with Linda Ronstadt as her personal wardrobe stylist as the singer transformed her image from new wave darling on the Get Closer tour to sophisticated starlet stepping in front of Nelson Riddle's big band.  She styled and toured with the Bangles at their peak.  But ultimately, All Roads Lead to Punk - which just happens to be the title of Genny Schorr's incredible new memoir of sex, drugs, rock n' roll and fashion fromHoZac Books.  It's not only a fantastic page-turner, but the photos and ephemera make it an indispensable time capsule of the era.  If you think the stories Genny shares on O3L are incredible...just wait til you read the book! On Monday, Judge Merchan fined Trump $1,000 for violating the gag order and emphasized that continued violations could result in Trump being sent to jail. 3:15pm- On Monday, former Press Secretary—and current MSNBC host—Jen Psaki stated that she did not believe it's necessary for President Joe Biden to do more press conferences in order to win reelection in 2024. 3:40pm- David Gelman—Defense Attorney & Former Prosecutor—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his work as a legal surrogate for former President Donald Trump and the Trump 2024 Campaign. Why has Trump been subjected to a gag order while Michael Cohen, for example, has not been? 4:05pm- Isaac Schorr of Mediate reports that talk show host Michael Smerconish has been disinvited from speaking at Dickinson College's commencement ceremony after students complained about a passage from a book he wrote in 2004. Did she just end her political career? It certainly seems like it. 6:30pm- Shia Kapos of Politico investigated the source of funding for anti-Israel protests on college campuses. Unsurprisingly, the biggest funders also happen to be some of President Joe Biden's biggest campaign donors—including George Soros and the Pritzker family.
