May 2024 comes to a close and This is the Way Podcast wraps up another month with another Star Wars news update podcast. The Bad Batch is done. The Acolyte is about to debut. Skeleton Crew has the same initials as "Santa Claus" and Tohan Lege is not that hard to say, especially if you're Stephen Stanton. Hot Toys are expensive. The toy Dejarik table is about as hard to get as a real one right now. Oh, and if you haven't played LEGO Fortnite, it's FREE TO PLAY, if you didn't know, and it has lightsabers and thermal detonators and Rebel and Imperial buildings and characters! If you have comments or questions, please interact with the show by contacting through one of our links found at our Linktree website (linktr.ee/ThisistheWayPod). If you want to know the best way to get in touch, though, it's email at thisisthewaypodcast@gmail.com and as always "May" the Force be with you! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thisistheway/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thisistheway/support
It is Star Wars Podcast Day 2024. #StarWarsPodcstDay2024 and we have a very special edition of Around the Dejarik Table. We have Ryan Arey from Screen Crush answering questions. We also have Ryan GH from The Puny Pod podcast with his take on our questions. this week's questions: It has been almost 5 years since it came out. Of all of the Star Wars shows that have come out in the last 5 years which one will you go home and put on the TV after this show? Or, which one would you rewatch at this point? What area of the Star Wars galaxy would you love to see fully get its own film? With all the recent awards shows, all I hear is “what is she wearing?” or “who is he wearing?”. I don't care, but it made me think. Which character has the coolest costume in the universe? How cool would it be if there was a Star Wars version of Casa Bonita resturant in Colorado? So, what planet/theme would you pick and what would your food be like? #swpd2024 #screencrush #ryanArey #Banthamilk #Earz-up Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Zoe from @starwarsgeekgirlpod and Mike from @hintonstarwarsfamily join us this week and bring 2 great Star Wars questions to the panel. q1: The force has changed over the years. We went from It being an almost ora around the select few, to the Midi-chlorian idea to broom boy, to now it is something anybody can learn if they try hard enough.WHich is right? Or more specifically which theory do you like best? q2: If there was an in-universe nature show (like Croc Hunter). Who would you want to be the host (in-universe)? Where would the first episode take place? q3: You're with someone who has never seen any Star Wars before, and you finally get to show them something. You have every movie and show on DVD with you- except you forgot A New Hope and The Phantom Menace. What do you watch? (And no cheating with Disney+, let's say you have no Wifi) q4: Other than a lightsaber, what weapon are you wielding as you make your way through the galaxy? Learn more about your ad choices. This week's Star Wars Questions. The Galactic Starcruiser is no more. There is still a super-themed hotel there. What should they do with it? What creative directions do you think they will take Grogu in terms of character growth and story arcs? Considering the newly confirmed Mandalorian and Grogu movie. If Ahsoka joined forces with Maul to take down Palpatine when he asked her on Mandalore, would they have succeeded? You are given complete creative control over the next Star Wars movie(s). What is it about? What are your answers? Did you like ours? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week we have 4 great #StarWars questions. Colton Ogburn from Screen Crush asks us, "What Star Wars universe creature would you like to have as a pet?" Ken Bishop from the Rambling Star Wars Fan asks us, "If there was going to be another Star Wars variety show like the Holiday Special, which musical act9s) would you have on the show, and what song(s) would they perform? " Tom's question is, " What is your favorite time period in the Star Wars universe?" Finally, Rob's Question is, "For normal day-to-day travel, what form of ship would you want to go about your daily business?" Play along at home. If you have an answer to any or all of these questions, send us an email or replay on any of our social media platforms. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Do you know who Boba Fett from Star Wars is? Marc Anthony Austin played him in the digital release of "A New Hope" He joins us this week as we have 4 new questions from him and Erik Johnson from many different podcasts like, "The Hub Crawl," "Earz-up,' and "The supreme Resort." Did you ever wonder What droid would you want in real life? Who would you like to see a backstory written about? What type of planet is your favorite? Ice, Desert, normal, lava? or, did Disney kill Star Wars? We ask and answer these questions on this episode of "Around the Dejarik Table." Learn more about your ad choices. The 10th episode of The Bad Batch showed us the commonalities between Separatists from The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch as they were sent to Raxus to save the senator. Meanwhile, Omega portrays her advanced strategic abilities in a game of Dejarik with Cid. Now that the debt is paid off, The Bad Batch can finally leave Pantora and Cid's cantina. I believe they could now search for Boba Fett as he is the only Jango Fett clone just like Omega (unaltered). Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week the word is Sonder, so the show starts with a discussion of what that word even means. Then Keith talks about his recent trip back to Maine, visiting the Bates Discordians, which led to discussing the history of this college organization Keith help launch 30 years ago. Next, Andy mentions a few more things about Disney parks, and also talks about the real-life versions of the games from Star Wars, notably Dejarik, the holographic chess game. The nerds talk a little about work and life and stuff, then they dive into media discussions, starting with The Last of Us, The Menu, Midsummer, and then, after dropping the Spoiler Curtain, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Star Trek: Picard.Spoiler Warning: Contains Spoilers!

Today I’m talking to one of my new favorite people, Tom Spina, founder of Tom Spina Designs and Regal Robot. We talk all about his early inspirations, his experiences with the internet and growing a community, his restoring of original props at the Lucasfilm Archives ... and what is coming up for Regal Robot (including a brand new, exclusive announcement) The Dejarik chess sets are now on sale from Regal Robot, and, frankly, are jaw-dropping: https://regalrobot.com/ But, seriously, take some time, check out all of the incredible things they have in stock, and follow them on social media! He’s such an inspiration to me and it was so great getting to catch up and nerd out. And thank you all again for your patience during this break from episode. I just started a new job, moving to a new city, getting married, and things have been crazy. Equally crazy, though, are our upcoming interviews, including Mick Garris, James Clyne, Michael McCormick and Amy Ratciffe. This is the 50th episode of TALKING BAY 94 and, to celebrate accordingly, we’re talking to one of my heroes, one of the people who has been at the very top of the list to have on this show from the very beginning ... two time Academy Award winner, the legend: Phil Tippett. From the Cantina reshoots to the Dejarik chess table to the AT-AT stop motion to the ILM Return of the Jedi creature shop, Mr. Tippett was one of the driving forces of, not only the Star Wars world we know and love, but also the visual effects landscape as a whole. It is really an honor to have him on the show. I haven’t stopped smiling since. It was literally a dream come true. Be sure to visit MadGodMovie.com for information on how to watch his latest project and be sure to seek out Mad Dreams and Monsters, the new documentary about him, coming soon. It’s been fifty episodes and I am so grateful to you all for the listens, support and love. This has been an incredible journey with you all and, really, we’re just getting started. If you enjoy the show, please leave a five-star rating and review. It is enormously helpful. The Black spire Outpost, on the remote planet of Batuu, has had quite a bit of exposure since it was open to the public, and this show will be no exception. Yes, it's time for our rundown of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge! Beyond the tips we gave on the last show to hopefully help you with your reservation time, this show is everything we encountered and what we thought of it all. We also have some Disney News, and Jason speculates on the recent Marvel Land gossip, and how there won't be an actual "microbrewery" on the property. The line we had to wait in to enter Galaxy's Edge. Our hosts watch Season 2 Episode 10, The Deserter. They discuss how far a clone can go from their conditioning, human-twilek hybrids and the frame rate of Dejarik. Onto this week's adventures in Clone Wars!
SVP, Executive Creative Director and Head of ILM, Rob Bredow was also the co-producer of SOLO: A Star Wars Story, working side-by-side with Ron Howard to bring the story (and its visual effects to life). We go through it all: L3-37, working with Tippett Studios with the new Dejarik pieces and, of course, the breath-taking in-camera work for hyperspace and more. We discuss his previous work with ILMxLab, as well as his vision for the future of the legendary company. Mr. Bredow is the author of the newest Abrams Books release, Industrial Light & Magic Presents: Making Solo - A Star Wars Story, which comes with my highest recommendation and can be purchased at the following link: https://www.amazon.com/Industrial-Light-Magic-Presents-Making/dp/1419737538 Be sure to follow him on Twitter, as well, to keep with his next projects and the cutting-edge stuff that ILM is working on: https://twitter.com/rbredow A huge thanks to Maya Bradford and Abrams Books for arranging this interview and making it possible. It was a huge honor. Our Talking Bay 94 web store is officially live with our first round of merch. Support the show with some great shirts, pins and stickers. Episode 143 - "Dejarik". In this episode we discuss the longest lasting game from the galaxy far, far way seen in "A New Hope", episode IV of the Star Wars Saga. Extended Show Notes (potential for spoilers): Dejarik, the board game the swept the galaxy far, far away. Chris starts things off by polling the listening audience on their familiarity with this episodes subject. The cold hard truth behind the hosting choice of this episode it revealed. Technical questions quickly arise in the opening minutes of the discussion. A connection to the Star Wars Holiday special is explored. A potential new set of characters discussions is uncovered during this episodes research. The panelist experience a brief flash back to their arcade game playing days. Tim grinds the conversation to the screeching halt prompting a curious question regarding his anatomy. Intricacies and strategy in game plan lead to conversations regarding slang and possible cursing in the Star Wars galaxy. Quick debates over the pronunciation of a popular expanded universe character breaks out. As in many episode discussions, conversation about the accompanying toy arises. The crew reminisce about the many Star Wars Board games they enjoyed during their childhood. We get a wonderful email from a long time listener and facebook community member that tells us how he enjoys te show with his son (his son is old enough to see rated R movies, don't panic). And the most unpredictable round of trivia continues to be as unpredictable as ever. All this and much, much more in this episode of the Star Wars In Character podcast! Today we look back at Dejarik, the game that you probably know as "Holochess". It's the chess-like game that Chewbacca and R2-D2 play in the Millennium Falcon. The Dejarik table is a Star Wars icon (even teased by JJ Abrams during episode 7 shooting), but is the game itself any good? And more importantly, if you were playing, would you let the Wookiee win?Download Episode 9 - DejarikDejarik was a popular holographic game that was played throughout the galaxy. When activated, the game would project holographic playing pieces that resembled dangerous-looking species from throughout the galaxy. The players can move their pieces to attack one another and said pieces will behave like living beings when in battle.Lots more info at Wookieepedia: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dejarik
