This week we’re wrapping up this summer’s SATANIC PANIC series with the 1975 horror film DEVIL’S RAIN.
By 2011 there was barely much left of The Misfits, the famed New Jersey band who helped shape the sound of 80s hardcore, and birthed the subgenre of horror punk with their sci-fi and B-movie-themed songs. Longtime frontman Glenn Danzig was long absent, having found greater success as a solo act, and his replacement Michale Graves was also short-lived,. while veteran guitarist Doyle had been fired from the band years ago. The only remaining constant Misfit was longtime bassist Jerry Only, who wrested total control of the band in 2001, performing as lead songwriter and vocalist, where he had previously only been the bassist. This short-lived Jerry Only-fronted iteration of the Misfits produced only one studio full-length in 2011, titled The Devil's Rain. It featured a team with strong punk roots working on it, including members of Black Flag and Murphy's Law, as well as a producer for The Ramones, Reverend Horton Heat, and Biohazard. But in spite of this, The Devil's Rain was poorly received both by fans and critics, who bemoaned its lack of energy and Only's facsimile impression of Glenn Danzig. To this day it's considered the worst of their catalog, and certainly their lowest rated critically.Lilz & Patrick are not punk fans by any stretch, but on this next episode of Jukebox Zeroes they turn to a proper punk expert; Dante Caroselli of punk acts Brociopath and Gas Attack, to help them sift through the ruins of The Devil's Rain and deliver a proper verdict. Join us as Lilz seriously disappoints a lot of her fellow goths, Patrick talks disjointedly about 'nila puddin', and a lot of bad New Jersey accents happen.Local Music Feature: Home Despot - "Surreal Estate"

This week's offering to the horror Gods is "The Devil's Rain". This obscure cult classic from 1975 is one crazy and confusing ride. Lead by an insane all star cast this whack-a-doodle movie features a confusing head scratching plot, no exposition, lots of bad decisions, dozens of melting Satan worshipping occultists who also bleed colored ice cream, and a pre-Scientology pre-Xenu John Travolta. On top of all of that it also has a half man, half goat Ernest Borgnine and a topless screaming William Shatner and both men absolutely crush it!
Do memories of chanting figures clad in black robes cloud your conscience? Does deja vu of human sacrifice haunt your mind? Then you may just be in the throes of a satanic panic! (1975), so-called documentary "In the Name of Satan" (1990), and the X-Files episode, "Die Hand Die Verletzt" (1995).WARNING: This episode contains reference to sexual abuse, as well as spoilers for the films covered.Audio clip from "The Kids in the Hall" See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

patreon.com/psychotronicast for $5 a month you will recieve 4 bonus podcasts a month! Help us keep the lights off and the TV on!Episode sixty is a satanic panic double feature! First up, Joe Dante’s 1989 cult classic The ‘Burbs. Shot entirely on a studio lot, this film is Joe Dante’s love letter to genre film (Look no further than his Spaghetti western style of shooting a score). This film is packed to the gills with big time movie stars and drizzling with Roger Corman players: Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman, Henry Gibson, and Dick Miller. The next feature: 1975’s The Devil’s Rain has its fair share of famous faces. Starring a thin full head of haired William Shatner, this critically and commercially panned incoherent horror flick is still an absolute delight to watch. Along with the Shat, you get: John Travolta’s first film role, Ernest Borgnine as the devil himself, pre Alien Tom Skerritt, and Ida Lupino. Sure, this film doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but that cast plus the effects in the final ten minutes alone makes the journey itself worth while.
Tommy gives a devil of a time with this week's episode! We look at two AWESOME films from 1975 about Satanic cults - Race With the Devil and The Devil's Rain! Satanic Panic: "The History of the Satanic Panic in the US - And Why it's Not Over Yet" by Aja Romano, Vox Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s by Kier La-Janisse Race With the Devil: "The Gist - Race With the Devil (1975)" by Jeff Stafford, TCM The Devil's Rain: "The Devil's Rain: One of the Strangest Horror Movies of All Time" by Jim Knipfel
Another week, another sequel. This time we logged into Unfriended: Dark Web, the sequel shot in secret and released to theaters with two different endings. Does the single screen narrative style hold up for a second go round, or is it just annoying? Our weekly horror curation consists of Demon House, When a Stranger Calls Back, Rampage, Murder on the Orient Express (2017 & 1974), Brain Dead, Death Wish, The Devil's Rain, The Bedding of Boys by Edward Lorn, and Jurassic Florida by Hunter Shea.

Movie Meltdown - Episode 338 This week we talk comedy, road trips and lots and lots of horror with comedian Derek Sheen. And while we figure out just where he took a left turn into a time hole, we also discuss... black and white monster movies, Phantasm, immediate descent into madness, Zacherle, Shock Waves, bag pipes, Scott Mosier, what is the marketability of this movie, Tom Savini, a car is essentially a bathroom without a toilet, Slumber Party Massacre, I just feel like there's something in the film that's going to manifest itself in the room, Zelda Rubinstein, the world was yours, John Carpenter, Maniac, Tales From The Crypt, Don't Look Now, White of the Eye, I've always wanted to be on-stage, you found a bunch of reels of 8mm can and this is what happened, Sleepaway Camp, the biggest horror now is trust, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, From Beyond, self-aware horror, Chris Hardwick, Friday the 13th, The Devil's Rain, I shouldn't be playing this in my house... something malevolent is in the film - and I don't like it, Demons, having faith in the filmmaker, When a Stranger Calls, Asylum, Mondo Cane, having perfect pitch, understanding isolation, Black Christmas, The Witch, Matthew Fox, Powerball winners, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, he's a giant baby man, people are trying too hard to create content, The Accused, you're given the gift of doubt, Basket Case, it's all about the eyes, horror and suspense are very different, Leatherface on his downtime, what scares people is the unknown, Bone Tomahawk, this sad gorgeous cadenza, it's like a long-form Ramones video, Beyond the Door, crippling stage fright, there was no other distraction... other then the darkness, if you walk into it as a horror movie - it's going to break your brain, Martha Splatterhead, The Sentinel, compartmentalization, Forensic Files, what scares people is what's beyond the veil, Kill List, horror is dread, full of self-loathing, well I have to go to bed now, making chili out of people, an STD metaphor, the Serbian porn industry, it was just more claustrophobic to be watching movies like that knowing that the entire world was asleep, reconciling grief, Brewster's Millions, they confuse murder with horror, Anthony Jeselnik, you can't have a zombie apocalypse, at least I'm not filled with demons, B.o.B's theory, there isn't any alone time, weirdly titillated, birthing torsos, whistling past the graveyard, the closet door slowly opening, when you leave the theater it makes you look at every single person on the street, the Eyes Wide Shut syndrome, filled with asbestos, blood and gravity, when you remove reason completely... that's where horror comes in. Spoiler Alert: Some end of the movie spoilers for Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp, Session 9... oh and Derek completely destroys the myth of a zombie apocalypse. You have been warned! "Give me something that permeates the very fabric of my belief system." For more of Derek's comedy, records and tour dates, go to: http://derektime.com/
