What are our priorities in life?  Do we only find time to think about and do anything in the service of God and our Saviour Jesus in our spare time?   Of course, Sunday's would be at least partly an exception. Matthew 6, which we read today, has many challenging words from Jesus.  It's final verses see Jesus challenging his disciples, “ … O you of little faith … do not be anxious saying ‘What shall we eat? Or ‘What shall we drink?' or ‘What shall we wear?'  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  Therefore do not be anxious …” [v.30-34]  How do we “seek first the kingdom'?  By giving it priority in our thinking!  So many who say they believe in the God of the Bible believe there is an eternal future for them in heaven!  Such are ‘blind' to the meaning of the words of the Lord's prayer which is also in today's chapter (v.9-13) which Jesus taught his disciples “ … your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”   So many who say these words are ‘blind' to what these words mean.  In watching the Diamond Anniversary of the Queen's reign recently we saw St. Paul's Cathedral full of people – all saying this prayer and wondered how many understood what they were praying for.  It is still used in the opening of our Parliament.  Again we wondered – but, the far greater need is to ask ourselves what the ‘sermon' that Jesus gave to his disciples means to us? Do we “seek … his righteousness?”  Jesus tells them 6 times in 10 verses (v.25-34) not to be “anxious” (AV ‘take no thought'). We live in a world that is full of worrying thoughts about the future, anxieties are increasing.  Our faith must be genuine; we must think through each day's troubles, true faith will see them disappear like steam, if we are constant in our relationship with Jesus. Today's chapter ends, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow … Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”  David's Psalms are wonderful examples,  as you read them note how many start as a prayer for help and end up with praise to God. Psalm 35 is a good example.  “Contend O LORD, with those who content with me … rise for my help” [v.1,2] – climaxing with the words, “ ‘Great is the LORD, who delights in the welfare of his servant!'  Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness and of your praise all the day long.” [v.27,28]       May we be able to echo David's words. Today's chapter (1 Sam.17) illustrates the supreme conviction of his mind as he went to confront Goliath.  If we should be confronted by any ‘Goliath's' may his actions and words inspire us.

For our last interview in the DTL Download series, we talk with Lawrenceville Mayor David Still.  Also:   A Gwinnett County corrections officer was killed in a shooting early Tuesday morning at the Gwinnett Corrections Center, police said. Police said the shooting happened about 6:20 a.m. at the jail, which is located at which is located on Hi Hope Road near Swanson Drive in Lawrenceville. According to police., when officers arrived at the scene they found Scott Riner shot to death in the parking lot of the facility. Police said the suspect, who has not been identified, fled the scene on foot. That led to a temporary shutdown of the Gwinnett Online Campus, which is also located on Hi Hope Road, police said. School officials say final exams will be rescheduled and students should not come to campus. Dyer Elementary Schoool and Freeman's Mill Elementary, which are located nearby, were put on a soft lockdown while police search for the suspect. Earlier, Georgia Gwinnett College was put on soft lockdown due to the incident. That lockdown was later lifted. Gwinnett County firefighters rescued a man from a fire at an apartment building in Lawrenceville on Monday night. Captain Ryan McGiboney said crews were called to the apartment building, which is located on Huff Street at 7:48 p.m. Several people who called 9-1-1 to report the fire said people were trying to escape the fire. When crews at 7:51 p.m., firefighters found one man trapped on the second floor of the two-story building, which had heavy flames that were blowing through a breezeway in the middle of the building. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but one man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries that were caused by the fire. There had been rumors that a second person was trapped in one of the apartments, but firefighters determined everyone had evacuated the building except for the one man that they rescued. Firefighters used multiple ladders, which were deployed on all sides of the building, as a precaution as they battled the flames. Crews had the fire under control at about 8 p.m.   The Gwinnett Chamber will celebrate its Diamond Anniversary in February at the 75th Annual Dinner with Tammy Shumate highlighting the honorees. Shumate, director of corporate development at Capital City Home Loans, LLC, will be presented the Citizen of the Year Award, Chamber officials said. The Chamber's top award, it honors individuals whose services have had the greatest impact on the overall quality of life for Gwinnett County in recent years. The dinner, to be held February 3 at the Gas South District, is presented by Northside Hospital. The goal of the event, chamber officials said, is to focus "on local and regional business growth while honoring the exceptional public servants, corporate citizens, and compassionate organizations who lead it." In addition to honoring Shumate, Public Service Awards will be given to individuals who "have gone above and beyond in their service to the community and its residents."   Parkview grad Buster Faulkner, an offensive analyst for the Georgia Bulldogs, has been hired as Georgia Tech's offensive coordinator, FootballScoop reported Monday. Faulkner, who fills a key position on the staff for new Yellow Jackets head football coach Brent Key, has worked with Georgia's quarterbacks, including Heisman Trophy finalist Stetson Bennett, since 2020. Before being hired at Georgia, Faulkner coached at Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee State, Murray State, Central Arkansas and Valdosta State. He served as offensive coordinator at Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee and Valdosta State. Faulkner played college football from 2000 to 2003 at Valdosta State, where he threw for 7,100 yards and 64 touchdowns in three seasons. VSU went 14-1 and finished second nationally his sophomore season, when he threw for 3,941 yards and 44 TDs. He played one final college season at Texas A&M-Commerce, throwing for 2,861 yards and 16 TDs. Faulkner was the starting quarterback for Parkview's first state championship team in 1997, his sophomore season.   The growth of food insecurity among families has accelerated in recent years, according to Georgia Gwinnett College faculty members Dr. Jenna Andrews-Swann and Dr. Gregory Gullette. The pair, who teach anthropology at GGC, along with their students, seek to study the physical, social and emotional effects of food insecurity among underserved populations in the Atlanta metro region. Students on the research team are interning with local nonprofits like the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry and Harvest Gwinnett, a network of community gardens throughout Gwinnett County, to conduct ethnographic research. This includes noting the observations and behaviors of people depending on these community entities for food, conducting interviews and collecting survey responses to better understand these organizations and the clients they serve. This data will be carefully analyzed and shared so the project might positively impact efforts to improve food access in the region. The research will continue through mid-2023. Norcross grad Bailey Tardy, a former Georgia Bulldogs All-American, earned her LPGA Tour card with an impressive performance in the grueling, eight-round LPGA Tour Q Series. Tardy, 26, finished second at the final stage of the Tour's Q-Series on Sunday to earn her card for the 2023 season. She completed the event at a combined 27 under, posting six rounds in the 60s and closing with a 7-under 65. #GwinnettDailyPost #Georgia #LocalNews        --          -         -          The Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast is local news for Lawrenceville, Norcross, Duluth, and all of Gwinnett County. Register Here for your essential digital news.             This podcast was produced and published for the Gwinnett Daily Post and GwinnettDailyPost.com by BG Ad Group    For advertising inquiries, please email j.southerland@bgadgroup.com For more information be sure to visit www.bgpodcastnetwork.com   https://www.lawrencevillega.org/  https://www.foxtheatre.org/  https://guideinc.org/  https://www.psponline.com/  https://www.kiamallofga.com/  https://www.milb.com/gwinnett  https://www.fernbankmuseum.org/                   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On today's show, we have Royal Expert, Commentator, and founder of The Monarchists (Themonarchists.com) Thomas J. Mace-Archer-Mills. He's the visionary creator of EIIR: The Platinum Record, a Jubilee Anthem, that was released on the Queen's 96th Birthday (4/21/22), honoring Her Majesty for her unprecedented 70-year reign. Thomas will be speaking about this and all things The Royal Family.      Thomas is the Founder, Visionary, and Director of the British Monarchists Society, President of the Centre for British Royal Studies, Editor-in-Chief of Crown & Country Magazine, creator of Crown & Country Radio, a Freeman of the City of London and a member of the Order of St. Thomas of Acon. In addition to the aforementioned, Thomas runs his own consultancy group. As a Royal Consultant for Protocol to the Princely House of Their Highnesses, Prince Waldermar, Princess Antonia, and Prince Mario-Max of Schaumburg-Lippe (a branch of Europe's oldest Royal family going back to the Viking Kings and the Royal Household of Denmark since 936. His Highness Prince Waldermar of Schaumburg-Lippe is in the line of succession to the British throne), Thomas further works with other international companies, businesses and Royal households. Mace-Archer-Mills has further carried out consultancy duties for, and not limited to, the Serbian Royal family on a series of occasions, most notably the 2017 Royal wedding of Prince Philip of Serbia.  Professionally, Thomas is a Consultant, Royal historian, award-winning author, media personality, and educational speaker. Thomas has been a radio presenter for London's W!zard Radio, which is broadcast internationally to over 15 countries, where he had several different shows and themes over five years. Thomas' last show was dedicated to helping the youth of the world overcome issues, challenges and negativity which face the daily lives of his listeners on “Therapy with Thomas Mills”. Thomas addressed the Annual General Meeting of the Australian Monarchist League in Sydney during the Summer of 2015 to thousands of members and has just recently lectured for Model Westminster and the Young Adults Forum in Parliament in February of 2017. In April of 2017, Thomas undertook a tour of America where he opened the Royal Society of St George – California Branch, completed several meet and greets and further attended events and book signings for his new release: “Their Majesties' Mixers – when they reign, they pour”, which has since won the Gourmand Award. In 2019 Thomas created the internet-based radio station, Crown & Country Radio" and continues to broadcast on his own specially themed shows. Thomas is well versed in the International Business Auditorium as well as Royal history, with degrees and certificates from American and European universities in History, International Political Economy, International Business Administration, International Relations, Humanities and Political Science. In honor of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee in 2012, Thomas penned his first book with permission of the Palace, to which he was granted the use of the official Diamond Jubilee Logo. “To The Queen: A Royal Drinkology” sold 5,000 copies in the months following the central Jubilee weekend. Over the past decade, Thomas has worked (and still works) tirelessly on behalf of Crown and Country, building the British Monarchist Society and Foundation, which has become the leading organization for not only British, but international Monarchists which he funded himself. He has worked hard to incorporate like-minded people to be a part of this much-revered society within the United Kingdom, in which cumulatively, under Thomas' direction, brings British traditions to the next level. Thomas has been busy perfecting and readying his team to organize and carry out international celebrations for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and the House of Windsor for the Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Thomas and the BMS hosted several events for The Diamond Jubilee in 2012, The Diamond Anniversary of the Coronation, the births of Prince George and Princess Charlotte and the celebration of the longest reign: when The Queen's reign exceeded that of Queen Victoria on September 9, 2015. This is an exciting and challenging time for Thomas and his team, and it is with great commitment, energy and foresight that he is looking forward to producing an educational celebration within his latest project, “Crown and Country Magazine” that will leave a lasting legacy for future generations of Britons. In his spare time (which is very limited), Thomas enjoys traveling, horseback riding, the arts, theatre, music, fine dining, reading and writing. In addition to all this, we'll hear a piece from his Jubilee Anthem on today's show.  To keep up with all that Thomas is up to, follow him on the web at: Themonarchists.com Also on today's show, we have the founder of Rivermont Records, musicologist Bryan Wright, Ph.D. Rivermont Records was founded in 2003 to preserve and promote ragtime, jazz and 'hot dance' music. Wright's vision, with the label, is to respect the pioneers who created the music a century ago while supporting today's musicians.  With this, Rivermont Records is proud to announce the upcoming premiere release of 'One Step to Chicago', a 14-track album that features an all-star lineup of jazz music legends. Recorded in 1992 and then laid aside until now, the album is the product of legendary producer George Avakian.  The album features a who's who of notable jazz instrumentalists, including pianist/arranger Dick Hyman, clarinetists Kenny Davern and Dan Levinson, guitarists Marty Grosz and grammy-winning bass saxophonists Vince Giordano and nearly a dozen more. For Isolated Trinity County Residents, One Man Is Their Food Lifeline Trinity County is one of those places that doesn’t get in the news too often, unless it’s wildfire season like it is now. It’s a remote, rural part of northern California that can be breathtakingly beautiful. And it’s also one of the state’s most food insecure places, where many people don’t know where their next meal will come from. For the series California Foodways, Lisa Morehouse brings us this profile of one man who helps feed them. Photographic Portraits Bring You Face to Face With the Vietnam War It’s been more than 40 years since the end of the Vietnam War. And a lot of the people who fought, died and escaped from that conflict are coming to the end of their years. As KQED’s Rachael Myrow tells us, a Bay Area photographer is striving to give them the dignity and honor they’ve earned and a chance to feel remembered. What use is an F-call? A little while ago I made a commitment to myself to achieve the DXCC. Since then I've received a few questions asking what it's all about. It's an award for the DX Century Club, or said in another way, it's a recognition of making long distance contact with one hundred countries. This achievement award has a long history. The DXCC was first awarded in 1937. Before then, in 1932 discussions started on how to determine what constitutes a country. For example, are Tasmania and Australia separate or together, what about Scotland and England, or Alaska and the United States. Suffice to say that a definition was arrived at after much discussion and you can read up on it on the ARRL web-site. In case you're wondering, things change all the time. In 1935 Tasmania and Australia were separate because of geographical division, Scotland and England are two countries and Alaska and the USA are separate also because of geographical division. Most of that is the same today, except that Tasmania is no longer on its own. Countries come and go, Czechoslovakia , Dutch New Ginea and Sumatra have all been deleted over the years, South Sudan with a Z8 prefix is new as of July 14, 2011. As I started looking into this further, it transpires that there are many versions of the DXCC, specific bands, modes and combinations of both. 2012 represents the Diamond Anniversary of the DXCC and there is a special award for that as well. I've found that there is a QRP or low power version of the DXCC which fits in nicely with my Foundation License and my own views on the level of power needed to get the job done. So, QRP Portable DXCC is what I'm shooting for. Now all I need is some spare time to actually turn my radio on. I still need to learn more about the QSL process, set-up a logging system, get a plan together for finding the best way to get contacts in different areas, learn more about propagation, learn CW and make sure that my home life doesn't suffer while I'm doing this. As I said the first time around, I don't know if I am going to take a month, a year or a decade to do this, but it's a really nice way for me to focus my attention on a particular aim and has the added benefit of making me an active operator, which ultimately is what this is all about, actually turning on the radio and using it. How have you gone about developing your skills and motivating yourself? I'm Onno VK6FLAB
