We've been through some serious business and culture shifts the last few years. But this is the way things always are. If it's not COVID, it will surely be something else in the future. Remember, the only constant is change, even if you don't ask or plan for it. How can you examine, design and measure your organization's ability  - and your own leadership ability - to build trust so you can more easily adapt to change and bring your people along? My guest today is Esther Weinberg, Founder and Chief Leadership Development Officer of The Ready Zone. Esther shares six Zone Performance Indicators, of ZPI's that are paramount to profitable growth. We also had a rich conversation about how emotions, body, and language impact performance in a real way, how emotions are  "signposts" that should not be ignored, and how to look at complaints as commitments - and offer some tough love advice if you're a leader struggling to get comfortable with dealing with emotions if you want to achieve high performance. We both have some choice words for you at the end of our interview! Key Takeaways:As your company changes, it may be time to usher people out of the organization (with empathy and dignity) who are no longer a fit for the changes the company has had and hire someone else who may be a better fit for the new place the company is in. Culture transcends the physical office space. If your culture is not portable, that's where the effort needs to be.Create a vision narrative (not just a vision tagline). Give the vision a story that people can get behind and want to be a part of creating. If you hear a complaint as a commitment, think about how that changes what you're hearing and what action you are willing to take.  "Emotions are signposts about what is important to us. You have to actually ground yourself in them to see whether or not your emotions are telling you the truth and are leading you in the direction of something that's important to you." —  Esther Weinberg About Esther Weinberg, Founder, The Ready ZoneEsther Weinberg is a business growth accelerator that equips executives in high-growth industries to create big pivots, big impact and big returns. Esther has worked with companies like Netflix, NBC universal, Microsoft, ESPN, Warner Bros discovery, CNN, Dreamworks Animation, Adobe, Disney, IMAX and national geographic. In this episode, Esther takes a deep dive into the problem that she has seen over and over again in multiple companies- communication, trust, and respect. A lot of us may think we are already great communicators and don't need help in this area, but taking on a leadership role involves a level of communication that many people are not aware of. As humans, we are “meaning making machines,” as Esther and Eric discuss in this episode, and we are always wanting to extract meaning out of everything we encounter. Being aware of this and taking responsibility for our actions and words, is the first step to creating an environment where psychological safety exists, and that is the key to a thriving company culture. Key highlights:Intro to Esther WeinbergHow she came up with “The Ready Zone”Her background in Disney and why she leftWhy she lost respect for her bossThe meaning of “We are meaning making machines.”Esther's framework for taking a different kind of action that can lead to a different resultThe most common mistake leaders makeShould all companies be bringing everyone back to the office? How do we focus on trust, respect, and safety?Retention is a massive issueEric's framework for the subconscious mindHow can leaders develop more trust? What to do if you feel you don't have time to implement all the zones? The one thing you can do as a leader that could solve 50% of issuesMove from a boss to curiosity pilotWhy is dignity important and how can leaders help people feel like they have dignity?Psychology safety is everything- and if leaders can provide that, that's where dignity comes inCreating an environment of human dignityWe can't control the meaning someone makes of something, but we can take responsibility once we know about it and heighten our awareness to create an environment where it existsConnect with Esther:Website: thereadyzone.comConnect with Eric:Be sure to connect with us in our Lead Sell Grow – The Human Experience Tribe Facebook groupPick up your copy of B2B Sales Secrets HereLearn more about our services: www.TheGoalGuide.comImprove your sales and stay connected – Free Gifts Here https://shor.by/TheGoalGuide

Esther Weinberg is a business growth accelerator that equips executives in high-growth media and technology industries to create game-changing breakthroughs, increase profitability in declining markets and create successful and sustainable “portable” virtual cultures with executives, leaders and teams. As Founder & Chief Leadership Development Officer of The Ready Zone, Esther is a respected thought-leader with first-hand experience. She moves leaders through change with proven systems to create big pivots, big impact and big returns. With over 20-years experience, her innovative strategies have assisted clients to grow, scale and thrive during the worst and best of times including Netflix, NBCUniversal, Microsoft, ESPN, WarnerMedia, Warner Bros., CNN, DreamWorks Animation, Discovery Communications, Adobe, Disney, IMAX, National Geographic, and Nickelodeon. In this episode…. Esther Weinberg was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, a heritage she is very proud of, like most New Yorkers. She is a graduate of New York University and came up, after university, in the marketing and PR side of business, working in magazines and publishing before transitioning to PR for an agency doing entertainment work. It was after working in Uganda that she had an “a-ha moment” about what all people in any business really want: human dignity. People from all walks of life in a vast array of company settings told her essentially the same thing using different terms and language for it. And from that discovery The Ready Zone was born. Esther founded the concept of ZPIs (Zone Performance Indicators) and six foundational strategies that assist corporations in working through change. She wrote a book on the subject called Better Leaders. Better People. Better Results. 6 Eye-Opening Strategies to Thrive Through Change You Didn't Ask For. As a renowned speaker, she is articulate about exactly how these ideas work and discusses them with clarity and encouraging candor. In this episode of What CEOs Talk About, host Martin Hunter and Esther Weinberg discuss the lessons and revelations they both had during separate times in Africa, how COVID forced many companies into reorganizations they hadn't planned for, why relationships with people are more valuable than people's performance, and strategies for approaching difficult conversations.
