Digital Transformation! Digital Strategy! Professional Education! What do they mean, and how do we implement them in a school? In today's episode we're very lucky to have on three wonderful guests who operate at the intersection of educational practice and the leveraging of technology for a better learning experience. They are: James Symons, CEO, LocknCharge Katie Novak, Education Strategist, Smart Technologies Associate Professor Jane Hunter, School of International Studies and Education, University of Technology, Sydney Each of these guests has a long history of working within the education space, from engineering and installing the hardware and catering to the evolving demands of schools, to leveraging the technology as a communal bridge between parents, teachers and students, and finally to researching and understanding the added value such technologies provide for teachers and learners and how they might successfully incorporate their use into daily practice. Talking points and questions include: The evolving demands of the classroom – what futureproofing and future planning exists in each of your spaces to accommodate new trends and developments? For those catering to the hardware, does the school or college determine what you make, or are they, and the ways their teachers and learners perform, conditioned by you? What space is there for reciprocity between the EdTech maker and the EdTech user? Teacher professional education – how important is this? Surely a learning tool lives and dies by the amount of training and ‘after-sales support' is provided to practitioners? What is the extent of the refusal by a teacher or department to adopt the technology and how is this overcome? Is it just waving statistics about time-saving and cost-saving in their faces or is there a form of trust that must be engendered? Digital strategy – this means different things to different stakeholders. What are the commonalities that should be agreed upon for successful rollout of technology? Obviously contextual factors are key to each school, but what are the non-negotiables? And with regard to developments like generative AI and other future trends we can't even predict yet, what kinds of guardrails need to be in place with teachers, leaders, and the developers of the tech to ensure ongoing supportive relationships with stakeholders. What foundations should be in place to support digital transformation no matter the bumps in the road ahead? Material discussed in today's episode includes: LocknCharge classroom solutions to facilite mobile device workflow and management Improving Access & Outcomes Through Student & Teaching Voice: EdTech Assessment in the Cherry Hill Public Schools Australia and the Digital Education Revolution Jane Hunter: High Possibility STEM Classrooms and Technology Integration and High Possibility Classrooms Smart Technology: EdTech Assessment Tool Uruguay and Ceibal Project

The massive shift to distance learning during the pandemic cast a sweeping spotlight on the challenges U.S. school systems continue to face trying to ensure every student has equitable access to online learning resources. “There have been a number of new reports about this challenge, and every one seems to find that the problem is bigger than what we first thought. Not only are there [students who are] unconnected, but they're under-connected,” meaning their upload speeds can't keep up with online classroom interaction, says Keith Krueger, CEO of the CoSN, the Consortium for School Networking. New technology approaches — and a slice of radio spectrum known as Citizens Broadband Radio Service, recently released by federal authorities — may be of help to schools and communities that lack adequate or affordable access to broadband, says Dell Technologies Education Strategist Matt Dascoli on the podcast. This podcast is sponsored by Dell Technologies. Dwayne Matthews has a way of bringing data and visionary insights into the room that flips assumptions about what you think you know about how kids learn. As institutions like education struggle to adapt to the speed of new tech, and disruptions like a global pandemic that force adaption and new ways of working vision is necessary to prepare incumbents and consumers of the system for a better way to get things done. Why do things like Singapore? Why are there more phones in action than are connected to the internet? What happens when students self-direct their own learning and teachers serve as resources, enablers, and sounding boards? These and other questions are explored in this episode. Find Dwayne at https://www.dwaynematthews.life/ or Tomorrow Now Lab at https://www.dwaynematthews.life/tomorrownow where he asks the question: Are we preparing students for 2019 or 2030? After enduring bullying and long-term sexual abuse by her father, Jacqui Gold decided she alone is responsible for her direction and she will never lose that, even to trauma. Now an Educational Strategist and Founder of JG Educate Ltd., Jacqui leads future generations to understand that, with resilience and determination in their education, they can create remarkable future-proof lives. Listen and you too will believe something wonderful is always about to happen and the impossible can become remarkable. About the Guest: Few people understand the significance of that day in the life of Jacqueline Gold. She was 14 years old and walking out of school after registering for the day; walking out to end the short life that she had lived because the trauma, torment and abuse had become too much. In the time that she had been alive she had witnessed violence inflicted on her mother by her father; she was also repeatedly raped by her blood father from the age of 11 under threat of her mothers life if she reported him. She felt so weak until a teacher appeared, like a guardian angel out of nowhere and began the process that would turn her life chances around and lead her to her purpose of leading future generations to understand that with resilience and determination in their education, they can create a remarkable future proof life. Throughout my life, I have fought many battles, some more than once and some feeling alone. What is key is that I decided at a young age that I alone am responsible for where my life goes and I was determined never to lose to my childhood trauma. I am not saying that changes happened instantaneously, they didn’t. What is real is that I set myself goals and invested in the help needed to achieve them. This has given me a wealth of experience and knowledge which I channel daily into my strategies that I work with my clients on. My team and I have helped literally thousands of young people to work through their problems and create a life which they love; one in which they use their strengths in whichever form they take to experience happiness. I am an Education Strategist and have used my professional experience to develop jgeducate.com to open up educational opportunities for all; it is future proof and international as it comprises virtual learning with real teachers.
