Join us for an insightful episode as we chat with Dany Elachi, a Sydney father of five and the co-founder of Heads Up Alliance. Dany and his wife started this grassroots movement in 2020 to encourage parents to delay giving their kids social media and smartphones. They believe that families in local school communities can create a healthier environment for their children by working together. We delve into the critical topic of raising the minimum social media age to 16 years with Dany Elachi, co-founder of the Heads Up Alliance. With smartphones already banned in public schools across New South Wales and Queensland, Australia is ahead of the curve in reclaiming childhood from the grips of Big Tech.Dany discusses the recent bipartisan support for increasing the social media minimum age to 16 and highlights the Coalition's commitment to enacting this law within 100 days of forming a government. He expresses concerns about recent doubts from the Communications Minister and the Prime Minister's suggestions of conditional implementation.Through this conversation, we explore why the current minimum age of 13—rooted in American privacy law—is outdated and inappropriate. Dany argues that even if age verification technology isn't perfect, passing this law now would send a solid signal to parents and children about the hazards of social media for young teens.Dany presents a compelling list of serious harms linked to early social media use, including:Less sleep, reading, nature, and exerciseWeaker family connections and real-life friendshipsReduced face-to-face socialization, concentration, learning, and creativityIncreased exposure to bullying, extreme viewpoints, gratuitous violence, porn, sextortionists, and child predatorsBy taking decisive action, Australia can set a new norm and provide parents with the support they need to resist the pressure of early social media exposure for their children. Dany emphasizes the importance of prioritizing children's wellbeing over profits and the urgency of addressing the negative impacts of social media on youth mental health.Tune in to hear Dany Elachi's passionate plea for raising the social media minimum age to 16, the potential benefits for our children, and how communities can come together to protect the next generation. This episode is a must-listen for parents, educators, and anyone concerned about the future of our children's mental health and well-being.Join the movementhttps://www.facebook.com/TheHeadsUpAlliance/?locale=ms_MY&paipv=0&eav=Afbm52iu63tPe51QKec6ThG3yxDJITf_Me3ZuZZwGuFfZ2vu8kMzrJW8RRzttP12j_AJoin us at the SEEN community eventhttps://events.humanitix.com/mastering-children-s-mental-health-in-the-digital-ageLink to the story about Sweden back to basics schooling.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/11/sweden-says-back-to-basics-schooling-works-on-paperSupport the Show.Subscribe and support the podcast at https://www.buzzsprout.com/367319/supporters/newLearn more at www.profselenabartlett.com

Henry talks with Dany Elachi, the founder of the Heads Up Alliance, a growing movement of Australian families who are concerned about the harmful effects of social media and smartphones on children. Members of the Heads Up Alliance have made mutual commitments to each other to delay giving their children smartphones and social media accounts until at least the end of Year 8.  This conversation was broadcast on 97.7FM Casey Radio in June 2024. “They were a bunch of adventurous kids, trying to mix chemicals at Caltech and see which one blows up more. This is the story of JPL." Born and raised in Lebanon, Dr. Charles Elachi always looked out for what's beyond his mundane life in the city of Zahlé. After studying physics in France, Elachi travelled west. In 1970, he joined NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he worked on the construction and operation of planetary robotic spacecrafts. After getting 4 master's degrees and a PhD from Caltech, Elachi became the director of JPL. Under his tenure, NASA launched Genesis, the Spitzer Space Telescope, and most importantly the Mars Curiosity Rover. He then became the Vice President of Caltech and now is a professor emeritus of Electrical Engineering and Planetary Science there. He wants the young space enthusiasts to know that JPL can be their "serious playground". With innovation and multiple mistakes, JPL managed to send the most technologically advanced rover to Mars. So what's stopping you? Listen to "All Roads Lead to Space (feat. Dr. Charles Elachi)" this Friday on all streaming platforms.

This week on Episode 463 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out' Akiva Goldsman's Batman and Robin apology and what he has to say about Discovery, Bryan Fuller gets candid, and the cast of Star Trek Voyager reunite for a good cause! In Star Trek Gaming, Star Trek Online's No-win Scenario re-emerges, and says “To Hell With Honor,” and lastly we welcome Fazri Zubair of Lucid Sight's Crypto Space Commander! CQ: Would a season long “Year of Hell” be something you'd want to see as dedicated Star Trek Series? Akiva Goldsman Chats with Collider Last week, we told you about a Collider interview with Star Trek producer, director, and writer Akiva Goldsman. On Friday May 29th, the video of that interview was posted to Collider's youtube channel, and it contained a slew of new information. Goldman apologized for “Batman and Robin” - it was heart-felt, but we're not sure it was enough...BUT...he also talked a bit more about Star Trek. Strap in, because this week we've got AUDIO! Goldsman told Collider he was not involved with Discovery's third season, but did have some information on what's to come, saying “So Alex [Kurtzman] has really been deeply involved in the building out of what season three looks like and what that post-Federation future is. I have seen some of it because, you know, we all work together in the same - or we did - place with lots of Star Trek pictures on the wall and editing bays and things, you know. It seems awesome to me. It's not a final frontier but it is a new one.” - Akiva Goldsman Goldsman also revealed an interesting tidbit about Discovery's jump to the distant future: “We all helped build that idea, all the way back to season one. Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg, the original showrunners from season one, that idea dates all the way back to that. I think it is a spectacular idea, which is to go post the timeline we know.” - Akiva Goldsman Bryan Fuller Talks “Voyager” Bryan Fuller is to Voyager what Jonathan Frakes is to Next Gen. Every time the man speaks, he leaves juicy audio clips in his wake. This week, the former-Voyager staff writer sat down with the la “Inglorious Treksperts” podcast to celebrate Voyagers Silver Anniversary, and sprinkled trek nuggets all up in our sauce. Fuller discussed the push-and-pull between Voyager's creative team and then-Trek-Head-Rick-Berman, saying: ”I think what was interesting in the evolution of the show, which you could sense the creative struggle. And I witnessed the creative struggle when I was working there. And there was an appetite for these bigger, bolder science fiction stories. And there was a lot of resistance from Rick Berman in embracing them because he was chasing The Next Generation and was not allowing Voyager to be the show that it could be.” - Bryan Fuller But Fuller wasn't done. He went on to describe the writer's room's plan to make one of Star Trek's best two-parters - “Year of Hell” - a season long arc, and Berman's reaction. "The “Year of Hell” and the behind-the-scenes drama around trying to craft not only that episode, but that season, was fascinating because we wanted “Year of Hell” to last the entire season. We wanted to see Voyager get its [EXPLETIVE] kicked every episode and through that season was going to be marbled the story of Annorax and the time ship that was changing things. So, we would go back to it every once in a while to remind the audience that's  the larger story. But because Deep Space Nine had made Rick Berman allergic to serialized storytelling, violently so [we did not]” - Bryan Fuller When asked why Fuller thought Deep Space Nine was able to get away with things Voyager wasn't, Fuller pulled no punches. "Ira [Steven Behr] didn't give a [EXPLETIVE] what Rick Berman said, and Brannon [Braga] did. Ira was like, “I don't care, you're wrong. This is what we're doing and fire me if you want to.' He was always like ‘Fire me. If you don't like what I'm doing, fire me, but this is what we're doing. So if you're not behind it, then I suggest you find someone else to do my job'” - Bryan Fuller “Stars in the House” Voyager Reunion After 25 years, a reunion is in order! And that's exactly what happened on Tuesday, May 26th. The cast of Star Trek: Voyager met via Zoom, along with Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley - hosts of “Stars in the House” - to talk Trek - but more importantly - to raise money for “The Actor's Fund” charity. The one hour meeting - which was organized by the “Stars in the House” hosts and Voyager's Robert Picardo - was a fun way to look at Voyager's behind-the-scenes dynamic. Robert Duncan McNeil - portrayer of helmsman Tom Paris and He-Man pal Kevin Corrigan - talked about Kate Mulgrew's first day on set. Mulgrew put on the jumpsuit after the departure of Geneviève Bujold: Voyager's first Captain Janeway. "There was a lot of uncertainty, I guess, when Geneviève left. There was a lot of uncertainty. Was the show going to get made? You know, were they going to make it a male captain? Maybe they couldn't find a female who they felt could do this. And the moment you said the first line on the bridge, personally I felt like ‘this shows going to work. We're going to make it. Now it's is all together.'” - Rober Duncan McNiel Mulgrew, who has expressed interest in returning to the role of Janeway, was eager to ask former co-star and current Picard actor Jeri Ryan about what's going on with Star Trek's newest series. "What's the plan, now, going  forward. Nobody knows anything” to which Ryan replied: "We were originally supposed to start shooting in the middle of June, but they would have had to started building the sets in the middle of May, which we can't do So we're just waiting. They're hoping that  we can start shooting in the beginning of fall. I don't know.” - Jeri Ryan BLACK LIVES MATTER This week, Priority One: A Roddenberry Star Trek Podcast did not record its 463rd episode live. It has been our weekly goal to entertain and inform our listeners of the goings-on in the Star Trek Multiverse. We like to consider ourselves an enjoyable distraction to your everyday lives; but, sometimes, it's irresponsible to ignore what is happening in the world. This week in the United States, protests and rioting erupted when George Floyd was murdered by members of the Minneapolis Police Department. Floyd's death, centuries of oppression, systemic racism, police violence, and discrimination of Black and Brown Americans have sparked protests at home and abroad. On June 2nd, Star Trek.com showed its support for the Black Lives Matter movement. A three minute clip of Deep Space Nine's “Far beyond the Stars” starts with a simple message: “Black Lives Matter. Black Culture Matters. Black Communities Matter. We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, creators, partners and audience and condemn all acts of racism, discrimination, and senseless acts of violence.” In the article accompanying the video, there is a link to Black Lives Matter's call for a sustainable transition in our communities. We have included a link to the Black Lives Matter petition below. https://blacklivesmatter.com/ Additionally, we're teaming up with trekmovie.com as #TrekkiesUnite against those same injustices and inequalities. https://trekmovie.com/2020/06/03/star-trek-websites-and-podcasts-unite-ask-trekkies-to-support-organizations-fighting-injustice/ Tonight, we cannot pretend to overlook what is happening in the United States. Tonight, we stand with our brothers and sisters fighting against injustice. Tonight, we reflect on #BlackOutTuesday Tonight – and every night – we must remain attentive, we must continually educate ourselves with facts, and we must unite in solidarity to protect this nation – and others - against injustice, tyranny, and oppression. Live Long & Prosper through Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. No-Win Scenario by Advisorypanda The Event Campaign II resumes on June 4th for PC, and on June 30th for console, but at the greatest cost. Apologies to Captain Kirk, but the No-Win Scenario is real and it is here. Playing either the "Arena of Sompek" or "Kobayashi Maru" TFOs every day during the 21-day event will grant you honor and glory, along with 50 Event Campaign Progress and Daily Progress towards the No-Win Scenario Event grand prize. The grand prize includes 3 Featured TFO boxes, 25,000 dilithium ore, and a new account-unlocked ship with Admiralty card: the scaling T4 Kobayashi Maru Freighter for Fed and Fed-aligned characters, and the Tong'Duj Freighter for KDF and KDF-aligned characters. While Freighters are as well-suited for combat as a Ferengi with an ear infection [Ferengi scream here], they offer on-board access to amenities like the Exchange, Bank, expanded Transwarp, and special Trade duty officer missions. Even better, you can go to and from your Freighte's interior from any other ship rather than fully switching between the two. Link to the stats in the show notes. Note that, while it's possible to do everything right and still lose in life, that's not quite true for the event. The event TFOs now have designated end points (Maru at level 6, Sompek at level 7) and cannot be failed before reaching them. Which makes them "Always-Win Scenarios," if we're being honest. Also, the TFOs' untimed/infinite versions will also be disabled but the event TFOs will not have cooldowns. So will you find an honorable end as you fly into the face of certain doom? How many petaQs will you take with you, as the dread tyrant's lighting turns your teammates into scorch marks? You'll have plenty of chances to find out. Pray that today is a good day to die, for you will not see another. To Hell With Honor by Advisorypanda While PC captains are facing their own mortality, console captains will confront J'Ula and attempt to end her spurious sporulation spree. "To Hell with Honor" pits players against the temporally-displaced Klingon matriarch and her Elachi pawns, as they race to destroy House Mokai's ship bases and mycelial rifts on the Beta Lankai moon. The TFO premiered with the 10th Anniversary Event on PC, and is finally making its way to XBox and PS4 from June 2nd through June 30th as its own To Hell with Honor event. This will also be part of the Event Campaign II for consoles, with daily play netting captains 50 Event Campaign Progress and one Daily Progress. The R2-D...sorry, DOT-7 ground drone pet and kit module will unlock for all characters on an account after acquiring 14 Daily Event Progress, along with the usual 3 Featured TFO Boxes and 25,000 dilithium ore. I hope you love Klingon Wagner and the smell of mycelium in the morning: smells like victory. Now your Star Trek Online captain can proudly wear the uniform and the ship livery of the Khitomer Alliance. As announced via news blog this week, STO are freely giving away the new cross-faction Khitomer Alliance uniform and the new Khitomer Alliance vanity shield until June 16th. To see how you think the Alliance factions may have influenced the new uniform, Trek out the blog link in the show notes. Grab your free giveaway in the Promotions tab on PC now, and soon (TM) on Consoles. Top Tip by AdvisoryPanda In an effort to lend a hand to new players --- or even surprise the most veteran captains in Star Trek Online -- here's our top tip! Control ship builds will frequently center around the Gravity Well ability, drawing enemy ships together to create a cascade of warp core breaches. However, some ship weapons do not play well with this tactic and should be avoided. The Dark Matter Quantum Torpedo and Omega Heavy Plasma Torpedo launchers will cause ships to disintegrate upon defeat, rather than detonate. Avoid these torpedos or your deliciously destructive chain reaction will be over before it begins. The grand prize includes 3 Featured TFO boxes, 25,000 dilithium ore, and a new account-unlocked ship with Admiralty card: the scaling T4 Kobayashi Maru Freighter for Fed and Fed-aligned characters, and the Tong’Duj Freighter for KDF and KDF-aligned characters. While Freighters are as well-suited for combat as a Ferengi with an ear infection [Ferengi scream here], they offer on-board access to amenities like the Exchange, Bank, expanded Transwarp, and special Trade duty officer missions. Even better, you can go to and from your Freighte’s interior from any other ship rather than fully switching between the two. Link to the stats in the show notes. Note that, while it’s possible to do everything right and still lose in life, that’s not quite true for the event. The event TFOs now have designated end points (Maru at level 6, Sompek at level 7) and cannot be failed before reaching them. Which makes them "Always-Win Scenarios," if we’re being honest. Also, the TFOs’ untimed/infinite versions will also be disabled but the event TFOs will not have cooldowns. So will you find an honorable end as you fly into the face of certain doom? How many petaQs will you take with you, as the dread tyrant’s lighting turns your teammates into scorch marks? You’ll have plenty of chances to find out. Pray that today is a good day to die, for you will not see another. To Hell With Honor by Advisorypanda While PC captains are facing their own mortality, console captains will confront J’Ula and attempt to end her spurious sporulation spree. "To Hell with Honor" pits players against the temporally-displaced Klingon matriarch and her Elachi pawns, as they race to destroy House Mokai’s ship bases and mycelial rifts on the Beta Lankai moon. Khitomer Alliance Kit Arrives! by Shane Hoover https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/11450753-join-the-khitomer-alliance%21 The galaxy united to fight off the Iconians. Then it united again to defend itself against the Hur’q onslaught. And only recently that alliance came together to design the Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser. Top Tip by AdvisoryPanda In an effort to lend a hand to new players --- or even surprise the most veteran captains in Star Trek Online -- here’s our top tip! This week on Priority One --- Well… it's much like last week… with even MORE marketing hype behind Star Trek: Picard. Star Trek Online's 10th Anniversary is right around the corner and what you can look forward to. And finally, we open hailing frequencies and receive all of your incoming messages. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Questions Are: CQ: Would you rather see Discovery Season 3 released first, or Lower Decks? AND CQ: What are you most looking forward to for Star Trek Online's 10th Anniversary? TREK IT OUT by Shane Hoover Picard Final Marketing Push After what seemed like a lifetime of waiting and marketing teases… Or were we just mentally trapped in a Kataanian probe full of Picard marketing for 20 minutes? Hey, either way it's finally time! Star Trek Picard premiers on CBS: All Access this week. Whether you've already seen the series pilot or not, we've got a couple of fun stories from Picard's final marketing push.  For starters, CBS arranged a two day takeover of London's Picadilly Circus Underground station. Star Trek branding adorned the tiled roundels in the station's ticket hall, declaring it to be “PICARDilly Circus”. Signs and train line maps throughout the station carried the theme as well.  If you closed your eyes, you could perhaps imagine yourself in a Federation transportation hub as the PA announced “Please take care when using stairs, escalators or transporters.” Next stop - Earth Space Dock? Our next Picard marketing tidbit comes courtesy of a Variety interview with the cast and crew at the show's premiere event in Hollywood. When asked which Trek character each of them would most like to share drinks with, the answers were gracious, touching, and funny in turn. Sir Patrick Stewart joked, “Your question suggests that that hasn't happened yet.” before adding “There are a lot of new characters with me now. And they are, without exception, delightful people. So a glass or two of something pleasant with any of them would be a treat.” Rod Roddenberry touchingly replied, “My dad. I know that's not what you were asking, but that's who I'd most like to hang out with.” While several other cast and crew all agreed that Picard himself was their man of choice, new star Isa Briones offered an amusing reply, “I shouldn't answer that because I'm not 21 for a few days! Hypothetically, Guinan, because she would get me drunk in the right way!” And our last Picard marketing bit comes courtesy of Sir Patrick's appearance on the BBC talk show The Graham Norton Show. The host asked Stewart if, given TNG's heavy syndication, he ever found himself unintentionally drawn into watching the show.  While Sir Patrick declared that he doesn't seek out the show, he shared a funny story about one night staying in a hotel. While channel surfing, Stewart came across an episode of The Next Generation.  After watching for a few minutes, he found himself hooked. It was at this point that his room service order was brought into the room, and the hotel staff person looked at him, looked at the television, and went away. Stewart told Norton, “I thought, he's going to go away and tell the entire kitchen “It's the saddest thing I've ever seen. This guy is upstairs, alone, having room service,  watching himself on TV!” Discovery Season Three and Lower Decks Nearing Release? There's still no official word from CBS on the release schedule for the rest of its forthcoming Star Trek shows.  However, a couple of Tweets were dropped this past week that give us hints that we may not have long to wait. First, back on January 14th, TrekCore.com's twitter account posted a very brief chat with Executive Producer Heather Kadin. Asked if Discovery's new season would be coming on the heels of Picard, Kadin had a surprising answer. She said, “It's not up to me. CBS All Access schedules it. I'll tell you that, come May, a lot of things will be ready. “Lower Decks” will be ready. “Discovery” Season 3 will be ready.” She added her expectation that the shows would be scheduled to ensure a steady flow of content. She also declared, “I can't wait for people to see “Lower Decks”“ Just a few days later, on the 17th, another tantalizing Tweet appeared. Michelle Paradise, Discovery Season 3's writer, tweeted a photo of one line of script boldly declaring “End of Season Three”. So with the writing on the show complete, and the Picard Executive Producer expecting the shows to be ready by May, maybe we won't be waiting long after Picard's finale for the next show. 25th Anniversary of Voyager 25 years ago, Captain Janeway and the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager began their adventures in the Delta Quadrant. In honor of the special day, many of Voyager's cast members took to Twitter to celebrate. The Captain herself posted a short video captioned “Thought I'd dust off my uniform (pips, badge & boots) in celebration of the 25th anniversary.” In the video, to the stirring tune of Voyager's theme music, Kate Mulgrew has arranged her Starfleet uniform and a Voyager script atop a Voyager folding director's chair. Robert Picardo, who played The Doctor, shared a photo of his character in costume as the Emergency Command Hologram with the caption, “The ECH has issued an order: you'd better be celebrating 25 years of Voyager! Please don't tell Kate Mulgrew I'm sitting in her chair again.” Seven of Nine's Jeri Ryan, now working on Star Trek Picard, posted a full cast photo captioned “Happy 25th Birthday, Star Trek Voyager! To the journey…” And eternal Ensign Harry Kim, Garret Wang, posted two cast photos with a note saying “So, it was exactly 25 years ago, this evening, that Voyager first aired on UPN. Happy 25th Anniversary to the cast, crew and fans of Star Trek Voyager May we all live long and prosper!” Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Anthony Cox Omega Event Returns for Anniversary X To many of us, Star Trek Online is the ultimate Trekkie experience. Being able to graduate from Starfleet Academy, rise through the ranks at Starfleet, and Captain our very own starship as we warp throughout the 50 plus years of the Star Trek Universe. This year alone we will see Voyager celebrate its 25th anniversary, we'll see Captain Jean-Luc Picard takes to stars again, we will again have more than one Star Trek show to look forward to, and the game that has glued all our favorite stories together will turn 10 years old. For PC players beginning this Tuesday, January 28th, Star Trek Online beams down the party patrol, hands out the party poppers, and releases the Omega Particles. There will be two new crafting options for the Omega particles this year, you will now be able to craft mark OR rarity variations of the Omega upgrades. The party pooper this year will feature the greatest hits of past poppers. The anniversary pack is adding several new emotes including a Disco Dance, Tea - Earl Grey, Evil Plans, Organian Greetings, and Ta-dah! And of course you'll be able to earn yourself a shiny new Tier 6 ship, The Khitomer Alliance Battlecruiser. Klingon/Federation Hybrid Ship for the 10th Anniversary An amalgamation of design aesthetics from both the Klingon Defence Force and Starfleet, this formidable ship comes with the Aligned Antiproton Shielding Universal Console. Which when activated gives a temporary boost to Energy Weapon Haste, Shield Regeneration, and Shield Capacity that increases the more damage your shields take. Re-activating the ability afterwards will deal antiproton damage to each nearby enemy. Reaching level 5 in the Alliance Battlecruiser will unlock the Automated Shield Alignment Starship Trait. Slotting this trait will give a bonus to damage based on what percentage of your shields is missing. Defeating an enemy will restore a substantial portion of your shields. New Task Force Operation Launching with 10th Anniversary The task force operation, To Hell with Honor, was announced last week and featured on a recent Ten Forward Weekly live stream. The TFO has Captains taking the fight to J'Ula in a space versus ground forces battle on a barren moon. As John Hegner noted during the live stream, there are a couple of different strategies players can take when approaching the TFO. Stage one pits Captains against ground turrets while they make their way to J'Ula's headquarters. During stage two, Captains will battle against both J'Ula's forces and Elachi ground walkers. Any turrets not destroyed during stage one will help you fight the Elachi. There is a stage three, but not wanting to spoil anything, we'll let listeners discover that for themselves. Two Previous TFOs Return with 10th Anniversary Update The 10th Anniversary update will also bring us two previous TFOs into regular rotation. Battle at the Binary Stars and the Mycelial Realm return to join the permanent list of regularly available TFOs. In Battle at the Binary Stars you'll take on the role of a Discovery era starship involved with the famous battle we first saw in the premiere episode of Star Trek Discovery. Not only is this a beautiful map and exciting battle, but you'll get to see cutscene recreated in game as they played out in Discovery. Then enter the Mycelial Realm in a ground TFO where you'll team up with Tardigrade to fight Elachi and try to hinder J'Ula's efforts. Event Campaign Continues and Mudd's Market Launches on Console Console Captain's can continue their campaign progress towards a free Tier Six ship coupon by playing in the Voth Breach event. Players have the choice of either playing the Into the Breach featured Task Force Operation or in any of the new re-imagined space patrols that were previously released on PC. Completing the daily progress with the TFO or two of the patrols 14 times will also earn you the Voth power Subcore console along with the usual Featured TFO rewards. This even runs now until January 27th. The USS Ross Galaxy Variant Revealed on Clear Skies Show On this week's episode of “Clear Skies,” the Star Trek Adventures RPG from the creative minds behind “Shield of Tomorrow,” the crew of the USS Ross finally set out on their adventure and gave us our first look at the starship. The title sequence, put together by none other than ZEFilms, showcases the Galaxy variant which will be available as an in game variant for exploration cruisers. The show, “Clear Skies,” can be seen Monday nights on the Queue Times Twitch channel. That's twitch.tv/Q-U-E-U-E-times. PRIORITY ONE ARMADA NEWS This week in Armada News: Join us for TFO Tuesday - each Tuesday we team up with other Armada members to earn marks and dilithium.  Tribbles and Bits - new ongoing weekly event - we want to hear from you - so each week, we are going to ask a random question about Star Trek and about STO and we want your responses. This is an extraordinary accomplishment and each of you have become part of a very distinguished group within our community and we are so grateful for your generosity and dedication to the Armada. WEEKLY TOP TIP With the Voth Breach arriving on Console as the featured TFO, we want to give you a couple of tips for completing it hastily. The first stage of the TFO is pretty straight forward, literally. You and your teammates fly at full impulse down the outside spine of the ship firing all around. Very much like the Death Star trench run in Star Wars. Occasionally you'll slow down to take out some turrets and then in the featured version you'll head straight down into the belly of the ship to take on the Subpower Cores. Here's where the first tip comes in. Only one of the three chambers will have the correct subpower core. The other two will have a question mark in the name. Don't attack these ones, heal yourself up and go to another chamber. Remember that a chamber will not have the correct subpower core twice in a row. After your team explodes the Subpower Core, head into the next chamber and start taking down the primary power core. This one has a rotating shield. You can either fly around the core keeping your ship broadsiding the exposed space between the shielding, or sit tight and buff up your ship when the shield blocks your firing arcs. It's up to you. But make sure you get your pacing down or you'll be wasting your buffed attacked on an immune shield. Other Gaming News Star Trek Timelines New Event and Celebrating Picard Premiere Star Trek Timelines isn't exempt from the Picard hype. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages  This Weeks COMMUNITY QUESTIONS are: CQ: What do YOU think the newly formed ViacomCBS means for Star Trek? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Viacom and CBS Merge to Become  - ViacomCBS There are stories that we cover here on Priority One Podcast that tend to keep popping up. Star Trek Kelvin IV, Tarantino Trek, how Guard Frequency is a pretty good show and you should check it out. But one story that has popped up for years, the reunification of Viacom and CBS, may finally be getting a conclusion! It had been suspected that talks were “Heating up” between the two National Amusement properties back in April, when CBS Acting Chief Executive Joe Ianniello's contract was extended through 2019. It was believed that Ianniello, who had been serving as former CBS CEO Les Moonves' replacement since September 2018, was both amicable to - and necessary for - a re-unification of CBS and Viacom. On May 30th, CNBC reported that merger negotiations were set to resume in mid-June. Then, on July 15th, both CBS and Viacom announced that they would present their financial earnings reports on the same day, August 8th, for the first time in “many quarters” - sending the industry into a state of rampant speculation. Finally, on August 13th, the deal was announced.  The new entity, known as ViacomCBS, will merge assets from both companies - including Showtime, Nickelodeon, CBS Television Studios, and Viacom's newly acquired streaming service Pluto TV. Viacom CEO Bob Bakish will serve as President and CEO of the newly merged company, and former CBS interim-CEO Joseph Ianello will serve as a chairman and CEO of CBS. Board Chair, and orchestrator of the merger, Shari Redstone said in the official announcement “My father once said ‘content is king,' and never has that been more true than today. Through CBS and Viacom's shared passion for premium content and innovation, we will establish a world-class, multiplatform media organization that is well-positioned for growth in a rapidly transforming industry” Star Trek was specifically cited as an asset by CEO Bob Bakish in an investment press presentation, expanding on the release by saying “We will have one of the largest libraries of iconic intellectual property, including more than 140,000 premium television episodes and over 3,600 film titles. Notably, this library reunites TV and film rights for some of our most popular franchises, including Star Trek and Mission: Impossible. And we see significant potential to better leverage these and other properties across platforms and assets, including film, television, live events, recreation and consumer products.” While much of the excitement centers on the combination of intellectual properties - including “Mission Impossible”, “NCIS”, “Transformers”, “South Park”, “The Twilight Zone”, and of course “Star Trek” - a big factor in the merger seems to focus on “Direct to Consumer” video-on-demand services. In an investor call made on August 13th, Ianello said “Just think about adding content from Nickelodeon, BET, MTV, Comedy Central to CBS All Access, and Paramount movies to Showtime. And also imagine our [ad-supported video on demand] properties like CBS Sports HQ and ET Live being added to Pluto [TV]. Plus, all of this will increasingly be done on a global basis.”. When asked whether the price-points of ViacomCBS's current VOD services will be affected by the merger, Ianello said ViacomCBS would take a “slow and steady” approach to any changes. STAR TREK ONLINE AND GAMING NEWS by Shane Hoover Awakening: Beneath the Skin! Previously in Star Trek Online, the villainous J'Ula unleashed her fearsome Mycelial weapon upon the Federation, catapulting her fleet of 23rd century Klingons into 2410, along with your Age of Discovery player Captains. Awakening: Beneath the Skin will be the next episode in the story, releasing on PC September 10th and later this year on consoles.  Joined by Star Trek Discovery's Anthony Rapp, voicing a holographically reconstructed Paul Stamets, your Captain must venture into the Mycelial Network itself to stop J'Ula before she turns the power of her weapon on the planet Andoria. Putting the “Temporal” in “Temporal Starships” A number of frequently requested changes will be coming to Star Trek Online soon(™)! First, the entire collection of T6 Temporal Destroyers and Science Vessels originally released with the Temporal Lock Box are being brought up to date with the Temporal Specialization. These ships will now boast a Temporal Operative specialization on the Commander bridge officer seating, and will gain access to the Molecular Reconstruction game mechanic. Second, ships formerly called “Flight-Deck Cruisers” are being uniformly updated to “Flight-Deck Carriers”. As such, they will retain the 8 weapon configuration of Engineering cruisers, while boasting 2 hangar bays as carriers. All ships of the type will also have access to the Shield Frequency Modulation and Attract Fire cruiser commands. Lastly, not unlike the changes to Flight-Deck Carriers, current Escort Carriers are also being updated. To reinforce the differences between these ships and other true carriers, these ships will be reclassified as Strike Wing Escorts. Additionally, their Quick Deployment ship mastery will be replaced with Enhanced Weapon Systems. XMPP Sunset As of September 19th 2019, Star Trek Online will end support for XMPP client connections to its internal chat systems. This change has been explained in a Cryptic blog as a measure taken in order to cut down on gold spamming activity over in-game chat channels. PC EVENTS Arena of Sompek Featured TFO The currently running Featured TFO, Arena of Sompek, will be wrapping up on August 29th.  This event is also the last chance to finish collecting T6 Ship Coupons for a free T6 starship from the C-Store, so be sure to reach 3000 Coupons before the Event ends! Console Events Bonus Marks Weekend Console Captains can take advantage of a Bonus Marks weekend. A group has started up that we've mentioned in the past, but they've started getting the ball rolling a lot more! A section of the forums has been set aside called AIE Nomads. Check it out, and see if it's something you'd want to join in on.   Emperor Pel-patine has decreed that another of his army be put up for interrogation! This time? The poor soul is Droge. Surely there is something that you want to know from a fellow AIE member. Keep it clean folks, these are family friendly forums! (go to the forums!)   Speaking of such, the Emperor is asking for...volunteers for information collection. Unless you are a Bothan, it should be completely harmless. You can sign up in the forums to be on the list for the “Ask a SWTOR Guildie” threads!   We have quite a few meetups coming up in the great state of California. The AIE gang out in Pasadena will be celebrating the new year with a meetup at Lucky Baldwin's on Saturday January 18th, the San Francisco crew will be holding a winter raid on Harry's Hofbrau in San Jose on January 25th, and the great and wonderful Belthaz is looking to put together a gathering at a Rocky Horror Picture Show screening in Los Angeles on February 22nd. And not to be outdone, the Washington D.C. group will be holding a meetup at AwesomeCon on February 18th. So if you'll be anywhere near any of those meetups, you'll want to RSVP on the AIE Meetup.com site and join in the fun!   Blizzard has been abuzz with changes that are coming in warlords of draenor! Among them changes to Crowd control! Lore in the forums has been talking about the proposed changes coming to CC, what they like, what they don't and there is some buzz about the removal of some of it. If you want  to find out more head to the blizzard forums.   And speaking of blizzard, for all of you who are betting about the date of warlords of draenor, you might have to adjust your timeframes. There is a new PVP season planned between now and the next expanion's release! Holinka on twitter announced the news on the 7th, but there seem to be no further details yet.   I've mentioned this in the past once before, but a former coworker who is kickstarting a CCG/Deckbuilder game is sooo close to funding. If you might be interested in such things, please check out War of Omens. If you contribute more than 10 bucks, they will give you a beta key immediately! 3 more days left on this, and a few thousand to go!
