Ubisoft has a lot riding on Assassin's Creed Shadows, and recent turmoil from investors and strike threats aren't helping. The future of the company isn't certain, but we look back on its past couple years to get an idea of where it's going. Andrew Stretch has also been playing Nintendo's newest, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and so far, it seems like the speedruns of the game will be absolutely bonkers. (Folge #131) Sendungshinweis: FM4 Game Podcast. 1.August 2024, 0-1 Uhr.

This month on the Digitally Uploaded podcast, we dive deep into Dragon's Dogma 2, as a rare example of an open world that delivers on the promise of open world games. It's not for everyone... but wow is it a work of art. We also discuss how game developers on board us with new games and concepts... especially at a time when we're all busy and only have a few hours a week to ourselves. What can developers do to make sure we're enjoying that time to the best, rather than learning complex systems? Finally, we take a look at the games coming out in April. Thankfully it's a relatively quiet month... but there are still a few big hitters that you're not going to want to miss. Thank you as always for tuning in!
On this episode, we're talking about the new open world survival games taking the world by storm: Enshrouded and Palworld!

In this episode, we discuss whether the gaming industry has become over-saturated with open world games and whether or not this is a bad thing. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Open Worlds are a staple in modern gaming. Whether it be the intricately connected biomes of Elden Ring or the check mark filled landscapes of Ubisoft games, this style of game has become synonymous with video games. That said, what makes these games hum? Is it having so much stuff to do? Is it having a diverse locations? Is it giving environmental looks at the game's overarching story? It could be all of these things and so much more. Welcome everyone to the last podcast of 2022, and we have a bumper 2-hour special for your listening pleasure. First of all, we talk about the last wave of games to land in the year (there's more than you think!), and then we chat about the challenges of open-world games, and taking formerly linear adventures and moving them into those open spaces. Finally, we talk about the two approaches to characterisation - named characters (where player choice over character creation might be limited) vs. character creation (where the developer has no idea what kind of character you're controlling). What are the pros and cons of both, and which do you prefer? We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. The Digitally Uploaded podcast has really taken off this year, and we love having you all as listeners. See you in 2023!

We're coming back to the table this week with clearer impressions of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X - but first, let's take a look at five of the rare few open-world games that actually re-used their open worlds, with PNB's Kayla Zumbaum! Then we'll bite into Bugsnax, Demon's Souls, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, The Game Awards announcements, and your favorite third-party launch games.
This week, we were joined by David Ecker who is currently the Lead Producer at CCP where he works on Eve Online. David schooled us on live ops, player-led communities, and Pokemon Go tips and tricks. David has had a long and interesting career, including a time at Disney where he voiced Rock Hopper the Penguin while simultaneously rocking faces off as part of his band, Shreddy Kreuger. We laugh, we cry, we try to get invited to the yearly Eve Online meetup.
