In this episode, Krish meets Jonathan Beever, ex-royal engineer, who’s career in the forces provided an alternative to the life on the council estate he grew up on that he was so determined to escape. Jonathan’s career was over the moment he suffered a knee injury following an accident playing rugby.  At first Jonathan struggled to adjust to civilian life, but he did manage to find a job he enjoyed, and was content with his new life outside of the army.  One Sunday, whilst enjoying a motorbike ride, Jonathan and his girlfriend who was riding on the back of the bike, suffered a life changing accident when they collided with a car. Both suffered serious injuries, including two bleeds on Jonathan’s brain.  Jonathan’s injury recovery involved just as much therapy for his mental health as for his physical injuries, and he talks openly about his struggles with anxiety and depression long after the visible wounds from the accident had healed.  As an ex-forces individual, Jonathan received support through Deptherapy, a charity that supports veterans and serving British Forces personnel with mental illness and injuries through Scuba diving.  This is a story of both brain injury and mental health recovery, and sees two men candidly discuss anxiety and depression, how they manifest, and how to get help. He talks about push back from hiring managers and other certain people that feel victimized by diversity hiring goals.  10:30 - KD talks about his favorite “Tim working at Applebee’s” story. Tim says that Applebee’s restrooms are like “a war zone”..... 11:30 - CNBC compiled a list of different tech companies and what they’re doing to support the BLM movement. Every company on the list contributed lots of money, but only one organization announced a change in leadership, when the CEO of Reddit stepped down from his board seat to fill it with a POC. Tim accuses many tech companies of “buying their way out of this conversation” instead of making real change happen. KD thinks that monetary contributions are still commendable but they need to effect real change too.  14:45 - “You have to have money but you also have to have tangible movement”.  16:30 - Starbucks’ employees were told that they could not wear apparel supporting BLM to work. They received backlash because Starbucks’ allows their employees to wear Pride-related uniforms in the month of June. They have pivoted since their original decision. Jlee praises them for pivoting and listening to their employees and what they want.  20:00 - Tim thinks that Starbucks’ and other companies that enforce uniforms should standardize their uniforms and not allow anything other than a standard option since it is easier to manage and can raise many issues. He says that you can support diversity and other causes and keep a plain uniform.  22:00 - “Print the shirts” -KD 23:30 - Time for this week’s special guest! CS Automotive was opened in October of 2006 in the back of a warehouse and now they call a 6,400 square foot, 10-bay shop home.  Prior to joining her husband Rob in the business on a full-time basis, Kim had a career in Commercial Real Estate and Property Management. In July of 2011, she stepped out from the background of the business and joined her husband in the venture of creating an industry-leading standout Kim continuously seeks out training for her and her entire team and put the teachings to use. Her belief in industry education has been a large influence on how much success and growth they have had over the last few years.  She has a passion to improve the reputation of the Automotive Repair industry working alongside other shop owners and industry leaders to improve the overall experience of the customer from the moment they make that first call to the shop until they drive their car off the lot instilling transparency and developing trust during the entire process. Kathleen Jarosik began her career in the automotive field in late 2003 after relocating from Florida’s Atlantic Coast to the beautiful Gulf Coast with her family. Without any automotive experience, she spent much of her time in the background, managing payroll, accounts payable and paperwork associated with the operations of the business. After divorcing in 2009, and only 6 years of shop experience under her belt, she purchased full ownership of her shop from her former husband and began to run it as her own. Kathleen made 3 pivotal decisions that have since changed her life; becoming a Napa Auto Care center and utilizing their extensive benefit and training network to learn and grow in the industry, finding a business coach; Repair Shop of Tomorrow, to further educate her in marketing, operations, and efficiency, and becoming a member of Women in Auto Care where she has learned the importance of encouraging and empowering others to strive for excellence in this incredible industry.
