With a background in management and education, it wasn't always obvious that Tyrean Lewis would become a farmer. But after taking stock of how few options there were for healthy food in his area, he decided to start a farm in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. Coming from a long line of farmers, Tyrean is the fifth generation of his family to farm.In this interview with host April Parms Jones, Tyrean tells us how he founded his first farm on a vacant lot, and that farm was so successful that he has continued to expand it. There are lots of great tips in this interview whether farming in urban areas or not, including how to find a good farm site and how to improve the soil using materials like compost and leaves that may be available for free. He also shares a lot of great ideas for how to network with the community regardless of whether you're looking to establish a farm or a market, and explains how their farm incubator program is training the next generation of farmers. In the 2nd hour of the Marc Cox Morning Show, Marc & Kim discuss the controversy surrounding a vigil in St. Louis for Palestinian hostages, where Cori Bush is expected to attend. I've known Natasha for ages and it's no exaggeration to say she's changed the landscape of gin consumption in her native Missouri, and indeed in the wider USA as well. Much as Julio Bermejo built a dedicated band of fanatics drinking 100% Blue Agave tequila at Tommy's, a suburb of San Francisco, Natasha did the same with gin, in her family's restaurant in St. Louis. Today, the Gin Room is a must-stop for every serious gin distiller in the USA, and her Gin World festivals have entranced people around the US and as far afield as Mexico. Henry Johnson, nicknamed Black Death, was one of the most famous American soldiers of World War I. He was part of the Harlem Hellfighters, the legendary all-Black U.S. Army unit, and awarded the French Croix de Guerre for single-handedly stopping an invading enemy force in the trenches. So how did he end up entirely forgotten? This is the story of one man's inspiring fight – on and off the battlefield.
