Alyshia emphasizes the value of embracing "happy mistakes" and authenticity. Alyshia encourages actors to view auditions as part of a creative journey and not seek short-term gimmicks OR people that are selling "bookings" if you take their course. Have you heard the saying "practice makes perfect?" I think there with posters with this quote hanging in most classrooms growing up. In today's episode, we are going to debunk that epic myth, because practice doesn't make perfect. PRACTICE MAKES PROGRESS. Many women are so afraid to fail they never try. Worst yet they use perfection as an excuse to not take a step of faith in the direction of her dreams. I am here to tell you it is time to stop living by this lie and start feeling confident in your gifts. It is time to be willing to take a chance on your dreams with no excuses and no need to seek perfection. It is possible to feel confident to move in the direction of your dreams instead of seeking perfection. You can stop chasing the approval of what others think and instead focus on running your race. As a trauma survivor, one of the coping skills I put in place to survive was perfection. Anything less than perfect brought criticism, and no matter how hard I tried, it never seemed to measure up. I never seemed to measure up. So I quit trying unless I knew it would be perfect. But perfect is a lie. By showing up, staying in the arena, practicing CPR (consistent, persistent, resilience) I learned to make progress. If I can break that pattern, you can, too. And there is nothing more beautifully brave as a woman who keeps getting back up, showing up for herself and those watching, and presses on. I will take that woman over a filtered facade of a perfect woman any day, because the woman who gets up and stays in the fight, she's the kind of woman I want to be friends with. She the kind of woman I will stand beside and fight for any day of the week. You can practice making progress in three steps: Show up Stay in the arena Practice CPR (consistent, persistent, resilience) Follow these steps in every area of your life and you will make progress in the direction of your dreams: Become unstoppable Develop resilience Create a never-give-up attitude Live by the mantra that they have on Cheer - “I can. I will. I must.” Begin to see progress in the direction of your dreams Watch the metamorphosis of yourself blooming into the fullness of who you were created to be Head here to find the blog version of the episode containing the free download of a quote to help you remember to practice making progress. INFJs are often challenged to maintain their relationships with others due to boundaries being crossed, perfectionism, and expectations from both sides. The complexities of the inner world combined with the obvious struggles of romance and having a partner with whom you have to worry about compatibility and coexistence is not easy. So, in this video I wanted to give some of my frank advice about what you can do in a relationship and some of the special struggles due to your personality type.Love isn't easy and there are many problems that come with dating, but before you consider a breakup, I recommend watching to the end of the video and using the technique I mentioned. We read about two young men who joined the Dominican Order in Rome in 1562. Both men died after a short time in the Order of Preachers, but both men made great spiritual progress. St Philip approved of their desire to follow the counsels of the Lord: voluntary and full chastity, poverty, and obedience. These counsels are meant to help remove the main obstacles to perfect charity. Sexual pleasure, money, and our own wills are often some of the greatest obstacles to following God. The counsels seek to remove these obstacles so that we might more easily seek the perfection of divine love.

In this episode, Bink and Garrett bring on special guest Emma Wilson aka Garrett’s wonderful wife. They kick off the episode with fast facts about Emma, her pet peeve, and they discuss what books they are currently reading. Bink shares one of his first world annoyances. They then dive into Emma’s story where she talks about growing up a homeschooled, military kid. She discusses how she developed a perfectionist trait that ruled her in high school and college. Her moral compass was her direction as she tried to do everything for God and felt great shame if she felt like she disappointed Him. She didn’t begin to see His grace until she started to hear the gospel in a different way in college and through meeting her now husband, Garrett. She started to let go of relying on her own strength and her moral perfectionism when health issues disrupted her ability to perform. She finishes by sharing her hard decision of letting go of a job as it went against her image of being a perfectionist. She trusted God and walked with Him. She is continuing to walk with Him in the process of letting go of relying on herself and instead falling into His grace.

Seeking perfection stifles progress

Seeking perfection stifles your progress: It leads to self-criticism.When you fall short of a goal, the battle in your mind begins and you beat yourself up over it instead of looking at the goals you did reach, you are focused on the goals you didn’t or instead of focusing on the things you did right, you are focused on the things you fell short on. It prevents you from being open to new ideas. Have you ever noticed those people on your job who say, we do it this way because we’ve always done it this way? They had “perfected” that one way, and that leads to fear of trying something new – being open to new ideas. You have a difficult time adapting to change. It keeps you stagnate. It prevents you from moving forward. Seeking perfection is just like analysis by paralysis. You become so obsessed with doing things perfect until you are literally not moving forward. It makes you concerned with what others think of you. People who constantly seek perfection often worry about what others think of them. They are seeking recognition and approval from others. Steve Jobs once said, “Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” I believe the significance of this quote is that it is important to be true to yourself. As long as you are trying to live a life to get the approval of others, you are never really progressing. Now that I’ve shared ways how seeking perfection is stifling your progress, I want to give you tips to overcome that. Practice self-compassion. People tend to have more compassion for others than they do themselves. We all make mistakes. Mistakes are part of the journey.  Don’t beat yourself up over it. Stop thinking it has to be all or nothing. The opposite of perfect is not failure. I often say, even if you are taking baby steps, forward motion is forward motion. Never disregard small forward movement. Celebrate the small wins.  Change your mindset. The first step to feeling like you’re enough is changing your mindset and negative beliefs you have about yourself. Creating a mindset that isn’t filled with unrealistic expectations will help you cultivate a sense of well-being. Learn to let go. Try to let go of whatever it is that’s holding you back from accepting who you are. People who seek perfection are often trying to silence those voices from people who told them they weren’t good enough either through their words or their actions. You are not defined by what others say about you. Yes, those things were painful, but don’t let your pain, your past, or your emotions lead you to negative ideas about yourself and push you to never make any mistakes. Tell yourself something wonderful about you every day. The more you start to see that you are progressing in life, even with your missteps and mistakes, you will start to see that it is about making progress, not about trying to be perfect. NO ONE IS PERFECT!

Topic: Seeking Perfection & Its Impact On Identifying Youth Talent In Modern Soccer General Stats: - Perfectionism is increasing over time: A meta-analysis of birth cohort differences from 1989 to 2016. 2 out of 5 children today were considered to display perfectionist tendencies. - Journalist Amanda Ruggeri writes for the BBC, “Perfectionism, after all, is an ultimately self-defeating way to move through the world. It is built on an excruciating irony: making, and admitting, mistakes is a necessary part of growing and learning and being human. It also makes you better at your career and relationships and life in general. By avoiding mistakes at any cost, a perfectionist can make it harder to reach their own lofty goals.” - According to Anxiety BC: Perfectionism robs our children of the youth sports experience and develops long-term anxiety that can be damaging to the brain and body. It also teaches our children to have an unhealthy view of the world. “Perfectionism is not about having high standards, as some argue. It is about having unrealistic ones.” Coaches: - What is the most common mistake coaches and recruiters are making? - Where do you think this idea of the Perfect Player has come from? - What impact do you think this may be having on soccer development in the US? Players: - Even players nowadays think they need to be the perfectionist athlete. This is an athlete who has attached his or her identity to their achievements, or lack thereof. And being perfection focused instead of process oriented can be the downfall of many a young athlete. - In today’s game we are all flooded with social media, TV, and brilliant highlights of feats of perfection, but, what happens when young players begin to strive for the TV version of someone else? - Are we losing true talent at the individual level because players are making decisions not based on circumstances but instead what they’ve seen on TV? - How can Coaches encourage players to remain play within themselves Parents: - As a parent and coach, it can be frustrating, heartbreaking, and even at times a bit embarrassing watching your athlete struggle and act out after a mistake. - “The will to compete is great, but not when one loses sight of the process, and is only focused on outcomes.” 5 Tips For Parents 1. Communicate honestly and openly with your child during unemotional times. Address the symptoms with him or her and define the problem.  2. Help your child to turn the perfectionist thoughts into process thoughts. Instead of looking at the outcome or product, the frame of view should be in the process. What did you do well in this process? How else could you have done it?  3. Praise and encourage our children based on effort, not outcomes. If we only celebrate the wins or praise the outcomes, they begin to think that is what matters most. They think they are only valued when they do well, and that winning is what matters. Instead of saying “Nice goals today,” say “all that extra work you have been doing after practice on your shooting really paid off today, didn’t it?”  4. Use celebrities from their sport as examples to give your child a different perspective. Michael Jordan has openly talked about the thousands of game-winning shots he missed. How many strikeouts did Babe Ruth have? How many shots did Abby Wambach take and miss on the big stage? Every sport has numerous athletes who have failed and learned from it or recovered from it. 5. Be a model of excellence seeking for your athletes. Be willing to make your own mistakes. Then be willing to admit you made them and laugh them off so your child sees how to properly handle a mistake. Children learn so much more by watching us.
