Riley Sheehan is dope. This young man won Paris Tours 2023. I don't know if you're familiar with the race but it's 213.9 km long and starts in Chartres and ends in Tours. The 2023 version started with 157riders. Sheehan started the race as a stagiaire for Israel Premier Tech World Tour Team. He got a chance to join the team for a training camp at altitude in July. After that he joined the team to race starting August 1st. Sheehan got a general outline of the races he was going to do. Paris Tours was on the list. His first race with the team was the Maryland Classic. The day of Paris Tours Sheehan says he woke up read to go and super motivated. His role in the are was to help Tom Van Asbroeck and Giacomo Nizzolo to the gravel sections. He also had some freedom to get into a break which he did. At 2 km he realizes he's in the winning break. He says he had to really focus on what's next. He was confident in his sprint. No cramps. Sheehan says the final 50 meters he's freaking out. He says he was expecting someone to pass him but no did. So he posted up with his hands in the air. Sheehan says he finished his season at the Japan Cup. This interview was done once Sheehan finished his around the world trip to get back home and had a few days to relax and rest.

Eleven of the sixteen stages so far at this Giro d’Italia have been won by first time grand tour stage winners. Some – Egan Bernal, Giacomo Nizzolo – have not been much of a surprise. But some certainly have, and yet there have been days when the stage winner has been overshadowed by the GC battle. In this episode of Kilometre 0 we revisit their stages with some of the winners, including Joe Dombrowski, Taco van der Hoorn and Victor Lafay. And we hear from a rider agent, Gary McQuaid, about the value of a stage win in a Grand Tour. Kilometre 0 by The Cycling Podcast is supported by Supersapiens: energy management for committed athlete.
The Bradley Wiggins Show returns as Brad and Graham Willgoss are joined by Eurosport presenter Orla Chennaoui. To kick things off the crew pay credit to stage winner Victor Campenaerts who Wiggins calls "the most Belgian man in the world." Wiggins speculates what might have happened if he had been involved in the crash had he not attacked early. The crash of course was the big one right at the start of the stage that wiped out a host of riders including a couple of GC contenders. Wiggins says that there are more crashes than people realise, speculating that it might be because they're so traumatic. Chennaoui added that it's rare to see races stopped and that will become more common as medical rules become stricter. The gang then discuss Giacomo Nizzolo not starting the stage and the difference in reaction to his withdrawal and Caleb Ewan's. After that, they talk about Peter Sagan's aims, whether he will stay and fight for the points jersey or focus on Tour de France prep.Plus there's some reminiscing for Brad and Orla about Giros past when Wiggins was still riding. Let's just say that transfers don't always go smoothly! After a trip down memory lane, there's a fond look at the story of Campenaerts and Team Qhubeka ASSOS, who have surprised even themselves with their performances at this Giro. Are they the most likeable team in the peloton? There's also time for a chat about recent success for Anna van der Breggen, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and Grace Brown as well as a discussion on Van der Breggen's plans to retire after the Tokyo 2020 games regardless of how well she performs at the Olympics.Brought to you by Zwift where fun is fast. The Bradley Wiggins Show is Produced by Pete Burton. I lørdags kørte Mathias Norsgaard Jørgensen (Movistar) sit første monument i karrieren, Milano Sanremo.
In the latest episode of the Cyclingnews podcast, brought to you by Sportful and Pinarello, we speak to Michael Valgren about his 2020 season, his time at NTT Pro Cycling and his move to EF Pro Cycling ahead of next year's campaign. The Danish rider spent two years on the African team and never quite managed to replicate the 2018 form that saw him win Amstel Gold Race but he talks about his motivation, why things didn't work out and how he will fit into EF Pro Cycling's roster. As well as hearing from Valgren, we also start our yearly report card analysis of the WorldTour teams and as Valgren features – and because there's no real method – we start by taking a look at both NTT and EF. NTT actually started the season incredibly well. They came into 2020 with arguably one of the weakest rosters of the WorldTour teams but they won six races by the time Paris-Nice concluded. They dominated a number of online races during lockdown but once racing resumed they struggled. Giacomo Nizzolo won the European Championships and Ben O'Connor took a fine stage in the Giro d'Italia but there was very little for them to celebrate. They ended the year with eight wins but the season was really dominated by sponsorship issues and once more the underperformance of several key riders. Sponsorship issues created uncertainty and tension between the management before Assos stepped in to help the team going forward. We analyze the season for NTT, before Procycling's editor Edward Picking – a former teacher no less – provides the team with a report card grade. Then we head to EF, and the American team that went from 17 wins in 2019 to 17 wins this year. There was no Monument win this time around but the team were aggressive in every format of racing – they won stages in all three Grand Tours and finished on the podium in the Vuelta a España. They also won the Critérium du Dauphiné with one of the best days of racing we saw all year, and even if you strip out the wins they took outside of the WorldTour – for example, the wins in Colombia – they were impressive. Our presenters look back on the year for the team before Mr Pickering provides his end of season grade. The Cyclingnews Podcast is brought to you by Sportful and Pinarello. There’s no such thing as a routine sprint stage on the Vuelta a España and stage three in the Andalucian countryside featured more climbing than the hilly stages of some races. Despite that the race concluded with a sprint showdown between two Italian riders. In this episode, Lionel Birnie is joined by Daniel Friebe and Fran Reyes in Alhaurín de la Torre to recap the stage and in the process prove there’s no such thing as a routine episode of The Cycling Podcast either. We hear from Giacomo Nizzolo, who came close to winning his first grand tour stage, and from Lukas Pöstlberger about his late attack. In part two with Daniel, we talk about Elia Viviani’s victory and clear up once and for all whether Ilnur Zakarin’s Tour de France was a hit or a miss with his Katusha team-mate Ian Boswell. And in part three we discuss the big transfer concerning the Izagirre brothers and find out why they are moving from Bahrain-Merida to Astana and we ask whether there’s any substance in the rumours that Mikel Landa might be joining them in pale blue sooner rather than later. The Cycling Podcast is supported by Rapha and Science In Sport.
