--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/corgiov/message

Veda Cruz: Play to Earn Games: What You Need to Know About the Law The video game industry has grown rapidly over the last several years. With new technology and more affordable equipment, more people than ever are interested in playing video games as a hobby. The booming popularity of “play to earn” games – also known as user incentive programs – has only accelerated this trend. These programs incentivize gamers to play specific video games by rewarding them with virtual or physical rewards based on how much time they spend playing, their skill level, or other measurable actions. However, as with any new trend involving money, there are risks associated with these programs. If you play these games, there are some things you need to know about the law. Today we are addressing Progressive Christianity. To be clear, we are not talking about politics, though they often go hand in hand. Progressive Christianity is an outgrowth of liberal Christianity, which accepted the modernist ethos of the Enlightenment and merged it with Christianity. Likewise Progressive Christianity brings the assumptions and moral commitments of postmodernism to Christianity. Thus, individual experiences and stories, especially from minorities, victims, and the disenfranchised have higher authority than scripture, history, or logic. As a result, Progressive Christians feel free to disagree with scripture if it seems to cause distress or difficulty for people. Our inner sense of goodness and personal purpose are the spiritual authorities that should guide us, not what Jesus said, not what the church says, not what the bible says. Today I'm playing out a teaching by Mike Winger of Bible Thinker. He had served as a youth pastor and worship leader at a Calvary Chapel church in California before YouTube ministry became his full time focus. His YouTube channel currently has nearly half a million subscribers and his focus is on thinking biblically about life. I thought he made some great points in this presentation that will sensitize you to the cultural creep that is slowly adjusting all of our moral compasses. Dr. Oord shares his thoughts on the thesis of Gregory Boyd's book, "Inspired Imperfection."
Why did Jesus die? Why couldn't God just forgive all our sins? How did Jesus' death pay for sin? How can someone else die for my sins? Questions like these are what atonement theories strive to answer. Throughout the history of Christianity a half dozen prominent theories have vied for adherents. In what follows I begin by surveying what the bible says about atonement before moving to briefly cover seven atonement theories. I originally released this presentation as two separate talks a while back (Theology 17 and Theology 18), but due to continued interest and inquires about this subject, I thought it would be a good idea to rebroadcast this talk. In this episode of the Christian Contradiction Series, I’m looking at how Jesus defeated the devil...BUT the devil is still just as active, causing chaos and destroying lives. It examines the power that we have as the body of Christ, and is intended to set you free from constant spiritual warfare. According to the New Testament, Jesus has defeated the devil, disarmed him, and has been given all authority and power over ALL things (Colossians 2:13-15, Matthew 28:18, Ephesians 1:19-21, Philippians 2:8-11). And, He has given that power to us (Luke 10:19). So, if the enemy has no legal authority and no weapons, what are we fighting against? Why do so many Christians feel like they are constantly under attack? Lies and vain imaginations. The battle is in our minds (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). Half of the things that we think are the devil attacking us are actually triggers in our minds - strongholds of unbelief or lies. In modern terms, it’s our neural programming. Check out Dr. Caroline Leaf or Escaping the Matrix by Gregory Boyd (just to name a couple) to begin to understand the neuroscience that shows us many of these ‘attacks’ are lies we believe at a subconscious level - programmed in us when we were young through the ‘pattern of this world.’ We perceive attacks from the enemy because we are alienated in our minds, and in our minds only! And, given that what we focus on we experience, it is time to change what we think on, what we believe. It is time to exalt the victorious resurrected Jesus of Revelation 1:12-18 who lives inside of us. We need to spend time meditating on this Jesus, and not about how the enemy is after us (Colossians 3:1-4). Beloved, it’s time to get on the offensive with the devil, claim our authority in Jesus, and live in His victory over the enemy and death and hell, because that is our inheritance! Summary Notes - Teach Us…This Means War! (Episode 20)We’re all in the middle of a cosmic conflict between good and evil - a world war. Life is not a playground it’s a battleground. “The whole of the cosmos is caught up in a fierce battle between two rival kingdoms.” (Gregory Boyd, God at War) If you know this is a battle-field and you know the enemy and his strategies, you can reduce your risk substantially! It’s no accident that the Lord’s Prayer is “book-ended” with the identities of the two major players in this conflict - the two protagonists. The very first words of the prayer are, “Our Father.” The very last words are, “the evil one.” Two notes: First, this is the last part of the prayer but not the least part. It deserves equal time and effort. Second, In the New Testament evil is personified in a sinister, malevolent and powerful supernatural being. “Keep us safe from the Devil.” (Peterson, The Message)Is the Devil real? I’ve seen and heard too much to consign such beliefs to the dustbin of medieval superstition or to the lunatic fringe of today’s Christian culture. Reasons: 1.) The Bible is a reliable source…2.)Through the rest of church history there is plentiful testimony to the power of Jesus’ name to deliver people from demonic oppression… 3.) Abundant testimony comes from other parts of the world today. 4.) My own participation in ministry times to those who have been victims of demonic oppression confirms all this.Who is the devil and where did he come from? The devil and demons are created, spirit-beings who rebelled against God. The are unalterably opposed to God, his purposes and his people. Is the devil the source of all the bad stuff that happens? There are multiple sources of trouble in the world. The devil can’t be blamed for everything, but he does take advantage of us when we are under duress. What are some common tactics of the devil? 1.) Disinformation and lies 2.) Feelings of self-rejection 3.) The impulse to reject others 4.) The lure of idolatry. Can a Christian have a demon? Possessed? No. Oppressed? Yes. When we are feeling oppressed, tempted, discouraged, confused, fearful, angry or depressed there could be something more at play than just our own emotions. Avoid the two extremes of paranoia and denial. “When a problem does not yield to medical attention, standard psychological counseling, biblical insight, or the usual prayer, it is not unwise to consider the possibility of a spiritual attack.” (Roger Barrier, Listening to the Voice of God)How does God provide deliverance for us? Through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus our victory over the powers of evil has been won. But we must still appropriate it. There are residual effects…pockets of resistance…a lot of clean-up work to be done…. The victory must be enforced. We must take steps to exercise our new authority over the powers that have already been defeated. It’s why the Bible says things like “resist the devil,” “be strong,” “stand firm,” “be on the alert,” “put on the armor of God.” The battle was won by Jesus, but we still have work to do ourselves. Four strategies: 1. Stay in shape spiritually. 2. Use the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) 3. Take steps to freedom - reaffirm your love and commitment to Jesus, confess your sins and repent, renounce the devil and all his works and by the authority of Jesus command evil spirits to leave, surrender once again to Jesus and ask for a fresh filling of his Holy Spirit. 4. Get help from others.Resources: Neil Anderson, The Bondage Breakers and Steps to Freedom in Christ (https:// freedominchrist.com) Restoring the Foundations (https://restoringthefoundations.org )
Rabbi Michael Skobac claims Paul did not mention "literally anything whatsoever" about the life and teachings of Jesus. If true, this casts doubt on whether Paul knew anything about Jesus's life and teachings. For some (not Rabbi Skobac), they make this claim to support an argument that Jesus did not exist! We explore Paul's letters to show that Paul does mention Jesus's life and frequently echoes, alludes to, and even quotes Jesus's teachings. 00:00 - Introduction 00:59 - Rabbi Skobac's Objection 5:00 - Where Rabbi Skobac was right 5:36 - Why doesn't Paul tell us more about Jesus? 7:36 - What does Paul tell us about Jesus's life? 12:54 - Why doesn't Paul quote Jesus more? 17:02 - Does Paul mention the Sermon on the Mount? 19:25 - Does Paul mention Jesus's parables? 21:44 - Does Paul ever quote Jesus? But I am also afraid a lot, and have no real certainty about anything. I remembered something Father Tom had told me--that the opposite of faith is not doubt, but certainty. Certainty is missing the point entirely. Faith includes noticing the mess, the emptiness and discomfort, and letting it be there until some light returns.” Anne Lamott Question 2-But what about the book of James where doubt seems to be condemned? “differences between “magic” and biblical faith is that magic is about engaging in behaviors that ultimately benefit the practitioner, while biblical faith is about cultivating a covenantal relationship with God that is built on mutual trust.” ― Gregory A.
