Send us a textFrom Come Follow Me:        "It took Martin and Lucy Harris years to acquire one of the finest farms in Palmyra, New York. But in 1829 it became clear that the Book of Mormon could be published only if Martin mortgaged his farm to pay the printer. Martin had a testimony of the Book of Mormon, but Lucy did not. If Martin went forward with the mortgage and the Book of Mormon did not sell well, he would lose his farm, put his marriage at risk, and damage his reputation in the community. Although our circumstances are different from Martin's, at some time or another we all face difficult questions like those he faced: What is the gospel of Jesus Christ worth to me? What am I willing to sacrifice to help build God's kingdom? Martin Harris ultimately decided that he would mortgage his farm so the first 5,000 copies of the Book of Mormon could be printed. But even this sacrifice—and any sacrifice we might make—is small compared to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, “the greatest of all” (Doctrine and Covenants 19:18), who bled from every pore to save the repentant."Support the Show!www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  For additional information or official statements, please visit the website below.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/?lang=eng)#biblestudy #oldtestament #religion #churchofJesusChrist #ldspodcast #christianpodcast #missionary #lds #biblestories #christ #faith #faithinchrist #scriptures #bookofmormon #doctrineandcovenants #pearlofgreatprice #temples #houseofthelord #mormon #mormonbeliefs #christiansandmormons #god #endure #ironrod #faithineveryfootstep #generalconference #prophets #followtheprophet #commandments #love #service #charity #keepstriving #keeponstriving #gospelgrowthandgoodtimes #become #newtestamentSupport the show

They explore the loss of the 116 pages and the role that Martin Harris played in that and in the Restoration, and the story of Lucy Harris, a law suit, and how all of those things combined to create the pressure that led to the loss of the 116 pages. They also talk about the lessons that Joseph Smith, and we, needed to learn in order to not fall prey to this same kind of mistake. They also talk about how the revelations in the Doctrine and Covenants are like God speaking into our ears. We are grateful for our generous donors who make the podcast possible. In this month's episode of Féminin, Rose Manley, Denny Gray and Orla Chennaoui cast their eyes over recent racing at the Tour de Suisse and come dangerously close to speculation as they ponder what it might mean for the year's biggest races and beyond.  Demi Vollering's winning run shows no signs of letting up after taking three stages and the overall win at the Tour de Suisse. But how much could her expected departure from SD Worx at the end of the season stifle her ambitions? And who are her likely rivals?  Plus, this month's mini feature follows four riders and their changing fortunes at the Tour of Britain Women. We hand the microphone over to SD Worx super domestique Christine Majerus, DSM-firmenich road captain Pfeiffer Georgi, youngest rider in the race Eilidh Shaw and Lucy Harris, a full time meteorological data scientist competing at her first ever WWT race. And lastly we look ahead to the forthcoming women's Giro d'Italia which hasn't been won by anyone other than Anna van der Breggen or Annemiek Van Vleuten since 2016. The route boasting time trials, sprints, hilly stages and a fearsome finish on Blockhaus, and with Demi Vollering not starting, we look at who might be capable of winning the maglia rosa. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/corgiov/message

** #071 Roasting Saints #06 ** :: Lucy Harris is Rad :: Lucy Harris was a wonderfully sane person, but the hosts of "Saints" make her sound crazy. Gaslit from the grave. Her arch nemesis - Lucy Mack (so many Lucys) - posthumously retconned Harris as a witness to the divinity of the Silly Book, when she wasn't alive to contradict the scam. And she knew it was a scam! Even Lucy Harris' gravestone, which was clearly made by Mormons, is a travesty. Gravestones are supposed to have the date of death, but they didn't know when she died! They would have known, if she was a loved member of their community, but she was likely not in contact with them much after leaving her husband Martin, 6 years earlier. Unfortunately, the only people to really record any of Harris' history, was Lucy Mack and Co. Who had invested interest in twisting this awesome skeptic into a witness of The Book of Mormon. The artwork for this episode is Sister Patience's attempt to fix Lucy Harris' gravestone, while still containing most of the biographical info (which was largely about her descendants and husband because they didn't know her at all). We discuss the process of recovering and reconstructing the missing stories of the BOM. What message did God write on the temple wall for Aminadi to translate? Did devout Quaker Lucy Harris really destroy the manuscript? And were Nauvoo era Temple practices in the missing pages? This is part 1 of our conversation. Part 2 is an intimate conversation of Don's faith journey from Atheism back to Mormonism. That episode will debut on Oct. 15th. 76–84."

We had a family intermarriage of two family members one generation apart from the two wives of Grandpa Martin. I am not a professional historian or researcher, but I have accepted the responsibility to keep the history of Martin Harris alive, particularly with the Martin Harris Pageant being shut down. As his direct descendant, I take liberties to try and analyze the events of his life that other historians usually only briefly mention. This will be apparent in the interview, which contains some new relevant analysis as his direct descendant that I wish I did not have to bring forth. I only had two days notice of being on this podcast, but I feel we can all learn about the power of the atonement, repentance, forgiveness, and restitution through the life of Martin Harris. Studying his life brings the principles taught by the Book of Mormon prophets alive to me. In preparing for this interview, I have learned new information I did not know a week ago. Latter-day Saint Perspectives

In this episode Brian Hales interviews Don Bradley about his decades-long research into missing parts of Book of Mormon narrative. Ever since he was a youngster, Don’s wondered about the content of the 116 pages of the Book of Lehi transcript that Martin Harris lost in 1828. Most Primary children know the story of how the Lord said “no” three times, but then relented and someone subsequently stole the pages from Martin. God told Joseph not to retranslate that portion of the golden plates so the stories and teachings scribed onto those pages remain lost forever . . . or are they? Martin Harris initially thought that his wife, Lucy, had taken the manuscript, but unlike a popular rumor, he didn’t think she burned or destroyed it. Then on her deathbed in 1836, she absolutely denied having anything to do with the manuscript theft. She was a devout Quaker— who are supposed to be absolutely honest. It appears Lucy Harris’s deathbed testimony convinced Martin that she had nothing to do with the robbery. When asked, “Do you think the lost pages might be rediscovered? Don replied: “I sure hope so.” But then he cautioned: “I would think that after 189 years, if it were still out there, it would have surfaced.” Don speculates: “It would be the biggest find ever in Mormon history and one of the biggest finds ever in religious history if that turned up, so I definitely hold out hope that it’s out there.” One person who believed that it would surface was the Prophet’s father, Joseph Smith Sr. He gave an interview in 1830 in which he said to the interviewer that that manuscript would someday come forth. Don isn’t sure if that was just his opinion or if he was quoting his son Joseph Jr. Don believes that the number 116 might be far less than the actual total of pages that disappeared. Scholars have known for some time that 116 is the number of pages of the printer’s manuscript that covers the period of the small plates, which is the same span of time as the lost pages. Joseph may have simply borrowed that number rather than having actually counted the pages before releasing them to Martin. The lost manuscript chronologically covered a full half of Mormon’s total abridgment that started 600 years from Lehi to Christ and ended in 320 AD. The remaining pages starting with Mosiah represent the second half of Mormon’s abridgment and are much greater than 116. Don asks: “Why would the first half be so short?” Over the past decades, Don sought to discover the missing meanings and narratives of the 116 pages through research. But how does one go about discovering lost words, lost pages, and lost content? He explains there are a couple of ways. There are “internal evidences” like how the “small plates” of 1 Nephi through Omni or Words of Mormon cover the same period as the lost pages. Even though these small plates are rather light on history, they give us at least a thumbnail sketch of what was in the lost 116 pages. Another internal evidence is comprised of echoes or flashbacks where later Book of Mormon accounts refer back to an earlier narrative that we don’t have. One example of this would be in Mosiah 11 that mentions King Noah building a tower on this hill that was north of the land Shilom, “which had been a resort for the children of Nephi at the time they fled out of the land.” The current Book of Mormon does not mention any details about this “resort” or the time they “fled out of the land,” but it assumes that we already know about this story, indicating that it had been in the part of the Book of Mormon that is now lost. Don also speaks of “external evidences” like statements or other sources outside of the available text of the Book of Mormon, like Joseph Smith’s earliest revelations. The most obvious of those is in section 10 of the Doctrine and Covenants where it actually says to Joseph Smith, in essence, “You’ll remember that it was said in what you translated before, that the plates of Nephi had a more extensive account of t...

Download Transcript In this episode Brian Hales interviews Don Bradley about his decades-long research into missing parts of Book of Mormon narrative. In the beginning… Growing up in Madison, Wisconsin, Lyn began her love for music right from the beginning. Performing in school talent shows, city wide competitions or even just in her own living room; not a day went by for her without music in it.High school to College… At the age of 16, Lyn left her life of public high school in Madison, to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. She graduated from Interlochen with majors in Voice and Theater and moved onto a four year Musical Theater program at a University in St. Louis, MO where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. From St. Louis to New York… After graduation, Lyn headed for New York to begin the next phase of her life. Living in mid town Manhattan, Lyn began the difficult task of auditioning for shows. At long last, the audition that would change the course of the rest of her life came through. Lyn auditioned at Radio City Music Hall for a European production of “Miss Saigon” and got the part of Ellen. Perhaps the frustration and the fight for years in NY to even be seen was what fueled her motivation to let nothing stop her now that she had been offered a leading role in a big production. It was a good thing, because, not only would Lyn be moving to another country for the job, but, ‘oh by the way, the show will not be done in English; you'll have to learn German if you want the role. The European Experience… Lyn's career in Europe took off quickly. Even with the challenges of being a non native speaker, Lyn beat the odds and continued to get leading roles in other German and Austrian productions. She went from “Miss Saigon” in Stuttgart, Germany to the World Première of “Dance Of The Vampires” in Vienna, Austria. There she worked with Jim Steinman and Roman Polanski, as well as the late great Mr. Steve Barton. From Vampires to Prostitutes… Lyn's performance in ‘Vampires' earned her a nomination for best actress, and also earned her an invitation to audition for the European premiere of Frank Wildhorn's “Jekyll & Hyde.” In keeping with her drive and determination, Lyn walked into the first audition with the entire show memorized and every song learned. She landed the leading role as Lucy Harris, and moved back to Germany (this time in Bremen) to begin preproduction on what would later be considered the definitive production of “Jekyll & Hyde” world wide.Top of the Pops…While continuing her work on stage in “Jekyll & Hyde,” Lyn was approached to record and perform a duet with Italian singer Pierro Mozzocchetti. The duo were chosen to perform the song “L'Eternita” at the final box fight of Axel Schulz against Wladimir Klitchko. The song's instant success placed the two on the charts and opened the door for an amazing whirlwind of television and radio publicity, including appearances on Top Of The Pops, Millionaire Gesucht, The Bambi Awards, Night Of The Stars and many more. From Pierro to The Scorpions…Whether it was pure luck or alignment of the stars is unknown, but one simple flick of the TV changed the course of Lyn's path yet again. Klaus Meine of the world famous rock group the Scorpions, happened to be flipping through the channels and saw Lyn Performing with Pierro. Shortly after that performance aired, Rudolph Schenker, Klaus and their manager Peter Amend met with Lyn after attending one of her performances as Lucy in Jekyll & Hyde. The instant chemistry and desire to try something new paved the way for “Here In My Heart.” Lyn recorded the Diane Warren song with the group in Austria and debuted the tune at the Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany. From the Scorpions to Lionel Richie…While juggling a stage production, an Italian duet and an amazing opportunity with the Scorpions, Lyn had yet another miracle on the way. Lionel Richie. Lyn and Lionel were both on their own publicity tours; Lionel with his song “Angel”, and Lyn & The Scorpions with “Here In My Heart.” They kept crossing paths in the same green rooms and TV shows and the two got along very well exchanging phone numbers and keeping in touch. Lionel asked Lyn to join him on stage at the Bremen Arena to perform “We Are The World” with him as well as Kevin and Howie from the Backstreet Boys. Needless to say, Lyn said yes and performed in the arena that holds over 14,000 people. The first Record Deal… Lyn's work in both the musical Theater world and the pop/rock world caught the attention of an entertainment company based out of Germany. Approaching Lyn with an exclusive artist agreement, including promises of work in movies, TV and music, Lyn took the deal. The decision required Lyn to discontinue her performances in Jekyll & Hyde and other stage productions so she could concentrate full time on recording and releasing her solo album. Unfortunately, Lyn got trapped in a deal that was not living up to it's promises. Due to their own internal problems, Lyn's album was never released, she was offered no work through the company, and she was not allowed to work for anyone else. Seeing no other alternative, Lyn began a very long and very difficult legal battle to free herself from the binds of the company. The emotional trauma of losing what she had worked so hard for was very trying, but Lyn did not cave under the stress of it all. She took the time she needed, got out of the bad deal and freed herself from the negative team she had around her.On Stage Again… After suffering through the legal battles with her record company, and surviving some very trying personal tragedies as well, the dust finally began to settle and Lyn found herself free to begin again. Lyn was approached about an Austrian production of Frank Wildhorn's “Dracula” that was to include original music that had not been part of the production in New York. Blown away by the power of the music and the depth of the character, Lyn accepted the leading role of Mina and took to the stage again in a blaze of theatrical passion with her costars Uwe Kröger and Thomas Bouchart. And Now…At Last… After so many years of working in-between the two worlds of rock and theater, Lyn has found a way to combine both worlds into one. She has put together an extraordinary band, has found an amazing co-producer and brought together some incredible talents in the music industry. This new team of people she has around her now has resulted in the power behind her album “At Last”, available at the online store here as well as Amazon, CD Baby and Itunes. Lyn and her co-writer have created an epic sound that bridges the world of theatrical passion and the heat of Rock. The Theatrical-Rock sound is funky, sexy, tough and beautiful. Lyn has come out strong, powerful and better then ever.
