In the 821st episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz & Kyna England come to you from Level 9 Studios in Las Vegas to discuss the latest poker news, stories, and gossip. That includes the recent drama surrounding Tom "durrrr" Dwan, who recently talked to PokerNews in a 45-minute in-depth conversation about debt allegations recently leveled against him by Peter Jetten and Haralabos Voulgaris. Suffice it to say Dwan didn't give very clear answers. Some say he spouted a word salad to most of the questions, and our crew took a look at some clips and offered their thoughts. We also asked Dwan point blank if he's ever been kidnapped by the Triads, an urban legend of sorts in the poker world. Mike and Kyna then talked about their respective tournament successes since the last show, which led to a larger talk about women in poker and how the industry sometimes struggles to market to such a large segment of the population. From there, it was on to a discussion about the recent uptick of poker-related names venturing into the reality TV space including Boston Rob Mariano, Brantzen Poker, and Athena Jett. Finally, the crew touched on Kevin Martin's 24/7 stream while attempting to win $5,000 playing online and close it out by offering their thoughts on the often-critical Allen Kessler. Did you know the PokerNews Podcast is no longer just audio? That's right, we've added a video show as well that you can view on the PokerNews YouTube Channel. He did so on Feb. 18 when he wrote: "Would caution against doing business with Tom Dwan. He's owed me 226k for 4 years and continues to use delay tactics to avoid payment." In this Win-Win Podcast Episode, Liv and Igor chat to one of the world's most successful sports bettors: Haralabos "Bob" Voulgaris. Revered for his hyper-analytical, data-driven approach to gambling, Bob soon became known as one of the most prolific NBA bettors in the history of the basketball, a reputation that even got him hired by Marc Cuban to run strategy for the Dallas Mavericks! As well as exploring his various secrets of success (and failures!), we also hear about his most recent undertaking… buying the 3rd division Spanish football team CD Castellon to see if his strategic formula can bring them to the 1st division. Ambitious stuff, and one of the many reasons why Haralabos offers a unique perspective on sports, the often seedy world of gambling, and zero-sum competition itself. Oh and apologies for Igor's mic! I seemingly forgot to plug it in and thus his sound is bad (so we had to cut a lot of his questions). Sorry Igor. This week we are joined by arguably one of the greatest sports bettors of all time and former Dallas Maverick, Haralabos Voulgaris. We also discuss our surprises and concerns thus far this NBA season.
In this week's episode of the Mavs Outsiders podcast, Bibs and Reese FINALLY have real basketball to talk about. The Dallas Mavericks played the Atlanta Hawks and the Toronto Raptors this week and the results were mixed. We go over both games, the things we saw, and our expectations going forward. From there we get into the Haralabos Voulgaris, or Bob, interview. Bob went onto The ESPN Daily podcast to speak with Pablo Torre about his life and his time with the Dallas Mavericks. Bob apparently did not sign any type of non-disclosure agreement because he disclosed everything. From his start with the team to his relationship with Donnie, Rick, and the rest of the Mavs staff. He mentioned players by name and gave his version of different events that were mentioned in the Tim Cato bombshell from the Summer. When listening to someone tell their side of the story you always have to take it with a grain of salt and Reese and Bibs discuss what their takeaways were from this interview. Finally, with real basketball, that means the return of Reese's Unsung Hero, and Bibs' Weekly Forecast. Bibs also brought over his parting thoughts/question of the night for this week's entry. 00:00:00 - 00:02:00 Intros 00:02:01 - 00:27:00 Game recaps 00:28:42 - 01:04:32 Bob Interview 01:05:45 - 01:15:30 Reese's Unsung Hero / Bibs' Weekly Forecast / Question of the Night Enjoy! Today's word of the day is ‘Denver' as in John Denver as in Leaving on a Jet Plane as in the Los Angeles Dodgers have pushed the series against the Atlanta Braves to 6 games. Dodgers hero of Game 5 was Chris Taylor, who homered three times. Wow. So what happens next? Down 3-2 in the series, both teams struggling to pitch, both teams going hot and cold at the plate. (9:55) MLB partnered with GLAAD so what could go wrong? Let's ask the Texas Rangers. (20:20) We have another situation brewing in the NFL. Congress has called on the NFL to hand over its emails concerning the investigation of the Washington Football Team. Let's discuss what, if any, power Congress has here. (32:15) Review: Today's will be different. We're going to talk about the incident on the set of the filming of Alec Baldwin's new movie. Baldwin fired a prop gun and somehow two people on set were shot. One, Halyna Hutchins, was killed. (41:15) NPPOD. (43:20) Haralabos Voulgaris was a former data guy for the Dallas Mavericks who got too much power, too quickly. He went on Pablo Torre's show and decided to air out all his grievances against the Mavericks. Woo buddy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Last week, The Athletic's Tim Cato and Sam Amick published a report about tension and dysfunction within the Dallas Mavericks caused by research and analytics expert (and former professional gambler) Haralabos Voulgaris. The report claimed that Haralabos was acting as a 'shadow GM' for the team's owner, Mark Cuban, who responded by saying that claims of internal turmoil were "total bullshit." But just a few days later, long-time general manager Donnie Nelson and head coach Rick Carlisle parted ways with the team, and the Mavs are now in search of new leadership. Today, Tim Cato joins us to break down Cuban's rationale for hiring someone with Voulgaris's background in he first place, why he rubbed many staff members and players -- especially superstar Luka Doncic -- the wrong way, and what his ongoing influence could mean for the future of the team.Read Tim Cato and Sam Amick's story about Voulgaris and the Mavericks:https://theathletic.com/2649806/2021/06/14/inside-the-mavericks-front-office-mark-cubans-shadow-gm-is-causing-a-rift-with-luka-doncic/

Haralabos Voulgaris is one of the most accomplished professional gamblers in history. Focusing solely on the NBA, his edge early in his career came from a keen understanding of match-ups, mapping the tendencies of head coaches, and exploiting mistakes in the lines set by the sportsbooks. This approach was profitable for years, so much so that Haralabos regular wagered $1,000,000 per day on games. Around 2004 the sports books caught on to his strategies and made adjustments to kill his edge. This was when Haralabos made the shift to using statistics and algorithms to inform his betting decisions. He became a pioneer in NBA statistical analysis and in addition to being recognized for his gambling prowess, he's been featured in the MIT Sloan Analytics Conference, and consulted for NBA teams during the off season. Elliot and Haralabos discuss winning in a game that most believe is unbeatable, balancing extreme success with happiness, and the value of personal development. In This Episode... [2:15] Why Haralabos doesn’t like the “professional gambler” label, even though he has regularly wagered $1,000,000 a day on NBA games. [3:45] The process that Haralabos goes through to find an edge in a field where 99% of the participants are losing money. [7:05] The “Beard” strategy Haralabos employed to make large wagers even when the Sports Books had blocked his action. [12:15] Why having a different mindset than the rest of your industry is the key to breakout success. [16:50] How Haralabos’ analytic methodology landed him a consulting gig with an NBA team (and why NBA managers refuse to talk to him during the season). [19:55] Two ways to balance your happiness with the effort and dedication that extreme success requires. [27:13] How to use meditation to reverse the adverse effects of excess social media usage.
