June 12 is Women Veterans Day, commemorating the day President Harry Truman signed the bill enabling women to serve as permanent, regular members of U.S. Armed Forces, on June 12, 1948. Prior to the enactment of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act in 1948, women serving in the military could enlist as volunteers in clerical positions or work as nurses, and in special, temporary units, such as Women's Army Corps full army status during WWII. Today, women serve in all military occupational specialties, including logistics, munitions, intelligence, and combat. When they came to power in August, the Taliban assured the international community that the status of Afghan women would be secure. The opposite has been true: women are being erased from public life. They are restricted from working outside the home. If they travel more than 45 miles from their house, they must be accompanied by a male relative. Girls no longer have access to secondary education. More recently, the Taliban has decreed that women should be covered from head to toe when in public. We'll look at the latest in Afghanistan, the status of its women and girls, and answer your questions.
In The Noble Man Podcast Episode 78, we're talking about activating and mobilizing an untapped, undeployed army in the church – the Gen X and Boomer generations. Rev. Chuck Stecker, Executive Director and Founder of A Chosen Generation Ministry, has dedicated the past 22 years to equipping, training, empowering, and releasing a new generation of leaders, and he sees the need for intergenerational ministry in the local church. Mike and Chuck uncover some unexpected reasons older men aren't engaging in discipleship and discuss how they can be mobilized toward mentoring and discipling. “You can't teach what you don't know. You can't lead where you won't go. And you only reproduce what you are.” Chuck didn't know who he was or whose he was but came to the life-changing discovery that he was adopted by the King as one of his very own sons. He has encountered many men who have never been given their father's blessing, never felt accepted as sons, and don't know how to pass that on, but they can come to the point of healing. Listen and learn why the analogy of Passing the Baton is deceiving and how to break away from the lie that you've done your part. Don't quit running. Don't step off the track. Pray for the spirit of Caleb, who at 85 years old, said, “Give me my mountain.” “God wants your story to be part of his story so that your story will be part of his story.” Resources: A Chosen Generation Chuck Stecker A Chosen Generation Bookstore Men of Honor Women of Virtue by Chuck Stecker If You Passed Your Baton...Take it Back The Family Blessing: Make a Profound Difference in the Lives of Your Children Through the Simple Daily Act of Blessing by Rolf Garborg View Show Notes: NobleWarriors.org/episode78 Leave a Review: If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to leave us a review. There is a line in a primary song that says - God gave us families to help us become what He wants us to be— Why would having a family help us become what God wants us to be? I truly believe that having a family is a gift from God and that it is within the family unit that we practice the many things we need to learn to become like God. Pes Nelson once said, "The home is the great laboratory of love. There the raw chemicals of selfishness and greed are melded in the crucible of cooperation to yield compassionate concern and love one for another." 1 Spending time with our loved ones is a great way to strengthen and reinforce that love for each other. During the holiday season it is a great time to reconnect with our extended family and draw on the power of family. In today's episode, I share with you our family's plan for trying to create a Thanksgiving that is not only enjoyable, but meaningful as well. 1 “Our Sacred Duty to Honor Women,” CR April 1999, https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1999/04/our-sacred-duty-to-honor-women?lang=eng, see also “The Canker of Contention,” CR April 1989, https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1989/04/the-canker-of-contention?lang=eng and “Salvation and Exaltation,” CR April 2008, https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2008/04/salvation-and-exaltation?lang=eng --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/myteachingmatters/message

Christians are often vilified for their percieved treatment of women. Daniel explains how this is not an accurate assessment.
The following excerpt describes the journey that Dr. Christy Vidrine Bauman took that resulted in writing her fabulous book, Theology of the Womb: "If it is true that God is a male, then His Divinity or Deity is expressed in His masculinity. Yet I am a woman, and there are parts of my body; such as my breasts, my vagina, and my womb that are telling a story about God that I have never learned or understood. This is an exploration of the significance of a womb that must shed and bleed before it can create. How will we engage our body which cyclically bleeds most of our life and can build and birth a human soul? How will we honor the living womb, that lives and sometimes dies within us?"Theology of the Womb is a book about the theology found in the cycle of the womb, which births both life and death. Every day each one of us is invited to create, and every day we make a decision knowing that from our creation can come death or life. Women’s voices have been silenced for a long time as society and the church has quieted their bodies. Will we courageously choose to listen to the sound of your voice, the song of your womb, and speak for the world to hear? I talked to Christy all about this book, her ideas behind a robust theology of the womb, and about her hopes for those who read it. I can't wait for you to listen to this conversation. Mentioned in this episode: A Litany to Honor Women is from The Book of Common Prayer Visit Christy's website to find out more about Story-Voice consulting. *** Dr. Christy Vidrine Bauman is the author of three books: Theology of the Womb, A Brave Lament, and Coming Home. She is a psychotherapist, supervisor, and professor who focuses on the female body, sexuality, and theology. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Andrew and three kids: Wilder, Selah, and River.
San Francisco's Arts Commission wants a public monument honoring poet Maya Angelou. It's part of an effort to fix the fact that just 2 percent of public sculptures in the city honor women. But the commission and the local arts community can't agree on how Maya Angelou should be represented. The debate has highlighted a rift between people who want to see women represented in the same way men are -- through statues -- and others who say there's gotta be a better way to honor women. In this sermon, we tackle I Peter 3 and the Spirit's crystal clear command that men are to honor women in the home, in the church. and in the world. To get there, we work through the meaning of the phrase "weaker vessel" as a ground for why that honoring is so important.

Welcome back to the Power Couple Episodes! This week Nicholas and Amanda are talking all about communicating through conflict, emotions, and how to stop people pleasing. Amanda shares that perfection is an opinion, not a definition and Nicholas brought vision into question and how couples can share that with each other. A lot of people think that the best way to have the best relationship is happy wife, happy life. Sure. But there is this analogy of a man and his wife that every single morning they would go on a run together. At the very beginning of running, he was the one that wanted to go run and she was the one that was along for the ride. After a while, he was sick and tired of running, but his wife was so excited every morning to go do it that he was like, well, I guess I'll just go run with her. So he acted like he was excited and then one day they get together and finally one of them blows up and says, I hate running. And the other person's like, what do you mean you love running? It's like, no, you love running. That's why I've been doing this whole time and at the end of the day, all they were trying to do was trying to manage each other's expectations and trying to make sure that the other person was happening in the other person is trying to make sure the other person was happy and then they both were doing an activity that they didn't want to do to make each other happy, which means deep down they both weren't really that happy rather than actually like managing and governing themselves and then giving out of an overflow without having to get connected to the outcome of the other person's like world or expectation. When you are in the stages of overcoming people pleasing or a “Nice” syndrome there are three crucial steps. Number one, know that you are loved, because when you know that you're loved already, and truly believe God has unconditional love for you and realizing that he made you just the way that you are. This will really free you from people pleasing you because it will take the power away from any rejection or hate you receive. The second is treating yourself like a queen. The last one is honoring yourself, respecting yourself and knowing your worth. Don’t be afraid to share how you really feel, don’t be passive when you really aren’t okay with something. A common thing that theme that we see over and over again in relationships is couple’s who aren’t on the same page with their vision simply because they aren’t communicating. Every once in a while it is good to have an outside perspective like another power couple in your community, or podcasts because it’s an opportunity to have an outside perspective on your relationship and grow together. People die inside if they don't have a vision. So make it a point to communicate with each other. It doesn't have to be good, it doesn't have to be pretty by having some communication around what do you want and really have them write down like what things do they want, what do they want out of life, what do they want on to things, what do they want to grow in, you know, that's something that they want to do and then support them in that and you do the same thing. And I think that's such a huge basis of connection is communication. Choose every single day to grow together and it's a choice and it's a decision that you both have to make in your relationship. A message showing how we should honor our women and how society has taught it's men to do just the opposite.
Heather Erickson takes a deeper dive into a "Culture of Honor" by taking a look at the biblical role of women. The role of women in the world wasn't meant to be a place of submission but one of mutuality and equality. Women were meant to reign and fashioned so by God from the beginning. Jesus through the redemptive gospel is restoring their place.
