I'm delighted to welcome back coach and coach developer, Dr Jamie Taylor in this episode. Jamie's interests lie in performance enhancement in sport, specifically in coaching, coach development, high performance and talent development. Jamie is Assistant Professor in Elite Performance at Dublin City University and a senior coach developer at Grey Matters, a company specialising in performance enhancement and coaching development for individuals, sporting/cultural organisations and systems. In this episode, Jamie and I discuss his new book, co-edited with Prof Dave Collins, entitled ‘Sport Skill Acquisition: Integrating Theory and Practice'. The book carefully and critically considers the expanding knowledge of skill acquisition and motor control, with a focus on application, examining three major theoretical perspectives that dominate the field: cognitive, ecological dynamics, and predictive processing. Jamie and Prof Dave Collins use their combined wisdom as coaches, coach developers, and expert sport psychology practitioners to offer practical advice on blending theoretical approaches, using examples from a variety of sports and activities. For those looking to improve their work with performers, Sport Skill Acquisition provides a road map for choosing the best approach for each unique situation to develop skills for optimal sport performance.
In this powerful episode, host Michele Hughes welcomes healthcare veteran and entrepreneur Debra Geihsler, co-founder of Grey Matters Total Brain & Body Health, a revolutionary clinic focused on reversing cognitive decline by treating the whole person. Debra explains how Medicare's GUIDE program is helping support long-term brain health, the life-changing results they're seeing through their clinics, and why early testing—long before symptoms appear—is critical for prevention.Tune in to hear inspiring stories of recovery, get practical advice on taking control of your cognitive wellness, and learn how to access free screenings through Grey Matters by calling the numbers below and using the code “AGELESS.”Sarasota, FL (941)529-0077Jacksonville, FL (904)290-6028Ponte Verdra Beach, FL (904)290-6028https://greymattershealth.org/Listen to this insightful conversation and unlock the secrets to optimal brainhealth and longevity!Medical Disclaimer – Ageless and Timeless PodcastAgeless and Timeless (the “Show”), along with its host and guests, shares insights and discussions on health, wellness, and longevity for informational and educational purposes only. Although we are very passionate as an industry about the need to understand the foundational rules of the craft, business & career best practices -which often fall into the grey areas of knowledge- are too often deemed 'right or wrong'. The key to navigating the grays of our industry? Knowledge and experience along with great role models and mentors -all of which are growingly in short supply. Here's my take on this topic along with a warning on 1099ing!

In the culture, including the culture of disciples of Jesus, there are some issues which are black and white. However, there are also some topics that are open to an individual's own interpretation. The Chinese have a saying, 'A peaceful life has nothing to do with the passage of time'. This sound reminder points to the importance of enjoying life regardless of age. After all, age is just a number, right? Ageing has become a topical issue in the mainstream recently as experts warn of the incoming 'Silver Avalanche', which has already swept Europe and is making its way to Asia.Global life expectancy has risen from 51 to 72 since 1960 and is expected to reach 77 by 2050. It is projected that there will be around 2.4 billion elderly (aged 65 or over) or 24% of the world's population by the end of the century. Now, it is more important than ever to prepare for this demographic shift and ensure that older adults have access to the resources they need to live fulfilling lives. This, however, presents a dilemma, as while life expectancy is rising, families are shrinking as people have fewer children. The far-reaching effects are already being felt in many countries, including China. In this episode of 2050 Investors, Kokou reflects on the ageing crisis and its impact on the world's population, its economy, and the planet. The conversation then shifts to an analysis of the silver economy: With the assistance of Yoda from Star Wars, who was once Siri but aged due to planned obsolescence, Kokou explores the impact of a shrinking workforce, pension fund deficits, and escalating healthcare costs on fiscal and monetary policy.Later in the episode, Kokou talks with Wei Yao, Chief Economist for APAC at Societe Generale. With China's robust economic growth lifting millions out of poverty over the past decades, how does the country now address the imminent reality of an ageing population? There are solutions on the horizon, such as learning from countries like Japan and focusing on healthy ageing. However, striking a balance between economic growth and social welfare whilst creating a sustainable future is a complex challenge.About this showWelcome to 2050 Investors your monthly guide to understanding the intricate connections between finance, globalisation, and ESG.Join host Kokou Agbo-Bloua, Head of Economics, Cross-Asset & Quant Research at Societe Generale, for an exploration of the economic and market megatrends shaping the present and future, and how these trends might influence our progress to meeting 2050's challenging global sustainability targets. In each episode, Kokou deep-dives into the events impacting the economy, financial markets, the planet, and society. Through a magical blend of personal anecdotes, in-depth research and narratives overlaid with music, sound effects, and pop culture references, there's certainly something for everyone.Kokou also interviews industry-leading experts, personalities, entrepreneurs and even Nobel prize winners! You will learn from the best on a wide range of subjects on current affairs, market shifts, and economic developments. If you like 2050 Investors, please leave a five-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Abraham Verghese is a best-selling novelist, and a physician whose focus on healing and empathy stands out in an era when technology often overwhelms the human side of medicine. His novel Cutting for Stone is the story of twin brothers in Ethiopia coming of age on the brink of the country's revolution. That book remained on the NYT Bestsellers List for over two years. His newest novel, The Covenant of Water, tells much of the story of twentieth-century India through a single family. Verghese's nonfiction books are My Own Country: A Doctor's Story and The Tennis Partner. Abraham Verghese is Professor and Vice Chair for the Theory and Practice of Medicine at the School of Medicine at Stanford University. On May 11, 2023, Abraham Verghese came to the Sydney Goldstein Theater in San Francisco to be interviewed on stage by Michael Krasny, host of the Grey Matters podcast and former host of the award-winning KQED program Forum. Krasny is the author of Off Mike: A Memoir of Talk Radio and Literary Life, Let There Be Laughter, and Spiritual Envy.

Getting his big break on Irish television in 2004, and then working up the rungs to his first Edinburgh show in 2010. The momentum kept building, including a sting of becoming fluent in Chinese to do a stand up show in the country, multiple years selling out venues at the Fringe, and bringing back something bigger each year. It's easy to be an observations comic. It's hard to be a really good observational comic. Des makes it look easy. In my minds eye, let's head to our luxury studio beside a touring theatre company… in real life lets head to a shed next to a double decker bus with a performing space on the top deck…. Back to 2016, back to the Grey Matters of Des Bishop.

I am delighted to be joined by Dr Mike Ashford and Dr Loel Collins in this episode. Both Mike and Loel lecture at Edinburgh University. Loel is the Programme Director for MSc Performance Coaching and Development and Mike lectures in Sports Coaching and Performance. They are also both coach developers at Grey Matters, a company specialising in performance enhancement and coaching development for individuals, sporting/cultural organisations and systems. And they've written a paper along with Prof Dave Collins and Dr Jamie Taylor called “It depends coaching – The most fundamental, simple and complex principle or a mere copout?”. In this paper, the authors set out the arguments for Professional Judgement and Decision-Making (PJDM - the scientific representation of it depends coaching) as a genuine construct in coaching and, therefore, coach development. They do this through a critical consideration of three “pillars” or core constructs of PJDM. Dallin Applebaum is an alternative songwriter with a knack for melodic piano-driven songs with a dark-humored spirit. Originally based in New York City, she moved to Nashville in early 2022. Dallin has always been drawn to music- she began playing classical piano at a young age and started singing and writing songs as a teenager. After attending college in New York, Dallin began touring with major pop artists among the likes of Ryan Star & Rachel Platten, in addition to working with recording artists such as Passion Pit, Phil Phillips, Matchbox 20 and many more. Among this success, she also won runner up for Best Folk Song in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2009. . In 2013, Dallin started an electronic rock band called SKYES, who made their way through the Brooklyn indie music scene before she chose to move into writing music on her own. During this time Dallin also wrote and produced pop songs under the alias Alise Indall. Many of Indall's songs can be heard on TV and film, and “I'm That Girl” was featured in the promotion for the 2018 USA Women's Olympic teams. In the process of building her new album, Grey Matters, Dallin began a songwriting club in New York as a place to get together with other songwriters and share ideas. It was through the club that she was able to create a space where she could work through and finish writing all of the songs for her album. Grey Matters, due out in January 2023, explores extremes as a means to understanding and appreciating what's between them. Dallin produced and arranged most of the record herself with the help of her husband & a few extremely talented friends. www.dallinapplebaum.com

Guest: Amanda Watson, senior lecturer and sociologist at Simon Fraser University It's been two weeks since journalist Lisa LaFlamme announced she'd been let go from her job as chief news anchor and senior editor at CTV National News. The decision came two years before LaFlamme's contract was up and despite the fact she presided over one of Canada's most watched newscasts. The network said a “business decision” and “changing viewer habits” inspired the action, but many aren't buying it. We take a look at how LaFlamme's dismissal has sparked a national conversation on sexism and age discrimination in the media and other workplaces. This episode was produced by Saba Eitizaz, Alexis Green and Paulo Marques Audio Sources: CTV News, Twitter
Ryan Russell a businessman, husband, and dad of three received a strong diagnosis after months of headaches. The pain he was feeling was not headaches or migraines instead it was brain cancer. He opened up and detailed the phases of his fight. ''It was clear that the hill I needed to climb was larger than I imagined. Not a hill at all. More like Mt. Everest'', ''When you are faced with a challenge there are only two options. You can turn away and hide, or you go headfirst into the storm'' Ryan said. Ryan shared some rules that have been critical for him and, also shared about the website where he's sharing more about his story, tips, and resources. Grey Matter really matters - and you are never more cognizant of this fact as the day that someone tells you that you have Brain Cancer. Now, we are on a mission to understand our brains, to fund brain cancer research, and to investigate the link between mind and body. www.my-grey-matters.com
