But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.” So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman. — Galatians 4:30-31 CALL OUT: Today's call-out goes to Jay Turner from Seabrook, SC, and his group, who is using our study Attributes for Men on RightNow Media. Thank you so much. Are you hearing voices that are competing with the truth? Paul's words in this text pierce through the legalistic voices we all hear. He urged us to cast off the shackles of slavery that entangle our souls. Just as Sarah demanded the expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael, so too are we called to purge our lives of legalism and legalistic voices that come from anywhere or anyone who would speak anything but the truth. As you travel your spiritual journey, you will encounter people and voices that seek to ensnare you. Certain Jewish teachers in Galatia did. They sought to impose circumcision and obedience to the law as requirements for salvation, which was a denial of the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice on the Cross. Some believers silently accepted this, assuming it was the truth. But Paul's voice rose louder. He spoke back to these people and their voices, proclaiming that legalism has no place in the life of a believer. Today, instead of passively accepting everything you hear, it may be time to test these people and their voices. When they do not align with Scriptural truth, speak back to them. Preach the truth to them and know that sometimes just saying it is enough to reject the voices and people who entangle us all. God, give the believer listening today the strength to reject and speak back to any untruth that is stirring in their mind or resting on their soul. Liberate them from legalism. In Jesus's name, amen. #FreedomInChrist #RejectLegalism #VoiceOfTruth #CastOutShackles #EmbraceGospelFreedom ASK THIS: How can you discern between voices that align with Scriptural truth and those that promote legalism or falsehood? In what areas of your life do you feel the pull of legalistic pressures or voices? How can you actively cast out these influences and embrace the freedom found in Christ? DO THIS: Speak back to the voice of untruth. PRAY THIS: Lord, grant me discernment to recognize and reject the voices of legalism that seek to entangle my soul. Empower me to boldly embrace the freedom found in Your truth. Help me to speak out against falsehood and stand firm in the liberty secured for me by Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Amen. PLAY THIS: Truth I'm Standing On.

In this episode of Flanigan's Eco-Logic, Ted speaks with Jay Turner, Professor of Environmental Studies at Wellesley College and Author of Charged: A History of Batteries and Lessons for a Clean Energy Future.Jay is also Author of The Promise of Wilderness: American Environmental Politics since 1964 (2012), which focuses on debates over public lands protection in the United States. His second book, The Republican Reversal: Conservatives and the Environment from Nixon to Trump (2018, co-authored) details the evolution of conservative opposition to environmental reform, culminating with the Trump administration. He and Ted discuss his background, growing up in Virginia, attending Washington and Lee University, Brown University, and Princeton University for his PhD in environmental history. Jay has been teaching in the Environmental Studies Program at Wellesley College since the fall of 2006, and has also been active in sustainability initiatives at Wellesley and nearby communities, especially those pertaining to energy and climate change. In 2017, he helped lead a community solar campaign in Natick, Massachusetts that resulted in more than 150 new solar installations. His most recent book, Charged: A History of Batteries and Lessons for a Clean Energy Future, unpacks the history of batteries to explore why solving the battery problem is crucial to a clean energy transition. He highlights their many uses: powering zero-emission vehicles, storing electricity from solar panels and wind turbines, and modernizing the electric grid, and demonstrates that they are essential to scaling up the renewable energy resources that help address global warming. He also digs into batteries' unique environmental impact—including mining, disposal, and more—questioning a clean energy transition risk trading one set of problems for another. With new insight on questions of justice and sustainability, Charged draws on the past for crucial lessons that will help us build a clean energy future, from the ground up.
My guest today is Dr. Jay Turner, Professor of Environmental Studies at Wellesely College. Dr. Turner is a prolific researcher on the recent history of U.S. environmental politics and policy, including climate change, the clean energy transition, and public lands management. This is very timely thanks to legislation such as the IRA. He has taught in the Environmental Studies Program at Wellesley College since the fall of 2006 and his training is in environmental history and environmental studies. His most recent book, Charged: A History of Batteries and Lessons for a Clean Energy Future, unpacks the history of batteries to explore why solving the battery problem is crucial to a clean energy transition. But given the unique environmental impact of batteries—including mining, disposal, and more—does a clean energy transition risk trading one set of problems for another? In today's discussion we cover both the fascinating history and future of the energy transition, historical precedents, pricing risks (environmental and geopolitical), understanding the optimal public/private investment model, Dr Turner's EV supply chain database, and what he learned in writing this fascinating book.

How we are listening on a number of levels. It’s a skill to listen and train as a choir. They listen to themselves, what’s around them, and the whole group. The difference between local listening, neighborhood listening, and regional listening. How a conductor not only listens to the choir, but they also listen to the audience. The importance of relaxing. Getting people to play to help them relax. Visual cues and people’s breathing. Changing the shape of their mouths and helping them hear the difference. The conductor’s role listening to the audience. The importance of engagement. It can be difficult without the visual, but you can feel their energy. Smiles, brightness of eyes, and an open body facing towards you signals engagement. Making creative choices as opposed to mistakes. The importance of eye contact especially with connecting with the choir and keeping them focused. Reconnecting as a lost listener. Silence is important. Not forgetting to pay attention to the silence. Paying attention to the space and where we breath. Silence can be difficult for some people. A sign of a good friendship is comfortably sitting in silence. Where more emotion gets heard.
