The Paychex Business Series Podcast with Gene Marks - Coronavirus
The Paychex Small Business Employment Watch reports job numbers remain flat, while national hourly earnings stay below 3% growth for a 10th straight month. Gene Marks points to a continued slow down, citing the paltry 22,000 jobs reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and a national unemployment rate at 4.3%. However, Gene says this creates opportunity for small businesses to snap up top talent. Also, a survey notes that more than one-quarter of participating employees are seeking financial resources from employers, a perfect time for employers to offer added value. And can entrepreneurship be taught? Gene has some thoughts on to what degree this is possible. Eric's journey into the financial world was born from personal experience. Growing up, he watched his hardworking father battle a debilitating illness and saw the financial strain it placed on his family. It became clear to Eric that many hardworking professionals, like his parents, were navigating a complicated financial landscape without the personalized guidance they needed. This realization sparked his lifelong mission: to become the trusted advisor families could count on during life's most challenging moments. With a degree from the University of Rhode Island, Eric began his career at Merrill Lynch in Retirement Plan Services, laying the foundation for his expertise in long-term financial planning. He later joined Bloomberg, LP, where he deepened his knowledge and expanded his ability to deliver impactful financial solutions. Over the last 13 years, Eric has helped clients save millions in taxes and move confidently toward financial independence. What sets Eric apart is his empathy-driven approach. He takes the time to understand each client's unique story and crafts personalized strategies that align with their goals and values. His mission is to provide more than just financial advice—he offers clarity, security, and peace of mind, helping clients transform uncertainty into confidence and turn aspirations into lasting legacies. During the show we discussed: Tax planning vs. tax prep: the big misconception How tax strategy can save millions—and why few use it Real client example of proactive tax savings Why advisors must show up in tough times, not just wins Common financial traps before hiring an advisor The overlooked human side of financial advising Balancing ambition and risk in high-stakes decisions An investment to avoid—and the reason behind it Why one-size-fits-all advice is risky Crafting strategies based on life, not just income How empathy shapes better financial plans Resources: https://www.emangold.com/

Welcome to the Financial Freedom and Wealth Trailblazers Podcast! In this episode, we dive into financial guidance and planning. "My journey into wealth management was shaped by poignant experiences that underscored the importance of proper financial planning. I had grandparents on both my mother's and father's side who did everything they were supposed to do to "live the American dream". They worked hard their entire careers, lived within their means, and saved the rest; all to see most of their savings evaporate on them when their health took a turn for the worse later in life. This ate away at nearly all of their life savings that they were hoping to pass on to their heirs, fortunately, there were plenty of fond, experiential memories that were able to more than compensate for the lack of proper estate planning. On the other hand, working with affluent families revealed the challenges of managing inherited wealth. Too often, I've seen families ill-prepared to navigate the complexities of wealth transfer, resulting in squandered legacies and lost opportunities. It's this stark contrast between the dreams deferred and the potential unrealized that fuels my passion for wealth management. I'm committed to breaking the cycle of financial unpreparedness by guiding families in governance, promoting financial literacy, and fostering healthy financial habits. My goal is to empower families to secure their legacies for generations to come." For legal reasons, we want to make it clear that THIS EPISODE IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE.This is also not an episode about the history of capitalism, or investment recommendations, or an exploration of the economy or financial markets. This is an honest conversation that acknowledges the multifaceted beliefs, emotions, mindsets and sensitivities people have about money. At the heart of it, money is a nuanced and personal experience. Money isn't just a currency. It's a reflection of our lives and our values. Money is a conceptual, energetic, and necessary tool to help you understand your self-worth. Because your self-worth is your net worth. In this episode, we share our personal experiences with money and share our thoughts and information about lack mindsets, growth psychology, manifestation techniques, and more. We're bouncing between topics associated with privilege, greed, jealousy and beyond to better develop a healthier relationship with money. The intersection of spirituality and wealth can make the values in our hearts collide with the demands of the material world. It's a complex subject — one that we'll tackle from multiple angles in a few different episodes over time. But as we begin the conversation with this episode, our goal is to acknowledge the profound ways money influences our lives, and help you understand the importance of viewing money beyond a tangible object. Ultimately, it's about seeing the endless wealth that exists when you tune into your authenticity."Since its creation, money hasn't been just a measure of wealth; at times it's been a symbol of our values and a test of our morality. The way in which one uses money may build or destroy one's reputation and standing in a community, and it certainly demonstrates one's character. Because money is an expression of value, it matters how it's expressed." — Kabir Sehgal***As mentioned at the end of the episode, below is a list of our recommended books about money, wealth, abundance and prosperity. By embracing these questions, financial professionals can create a safe space for clients to open up, leading to more meaningful conversations and better outcomes. Let's explore Marino's four questions and their significance. Question 1: What's going on? When clients seek a financial planner's guidance, something's always happening in their lives.
