BUFFALO, NY- May 22, 2024 – A new #research paper was #published in Aging (listed by MEDLINE/PubMed as "Aging (Albany NY)" and "Aging-US" by Web of Science) Volume 16, Issue 9, entitled, “Cell type-dependent modulation of senescence features using Weo electrolyzed water.” Electrolyzed-reduced water has powerful antioxidant properties with constituents that scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are known to be produced by several intrinsic and extrinsic processes. When there is an imbalance between ROS production and antioxidant defenses, oxidative stress occurs. Persistent oxidative stress leads to cellular senescence, an important hallmark of aging, and is involved in several age-related conditions and illnesses. In this new study, researchers Brenda L. Court-Vazquez, Shirley A. Arroyo-Vizcarrondo, Jonathan A. Poli, Lara Nyman, Kelly Halderman, Anthony Ginter, and Pierre-Yves Desprez from Weo LLC and California Pacific Medical Center investigated whether Weo electrolyzed water (WEW) could modulate the phenotype of senescent cells. “The focus of this study was to utilize two different cell types, human normal fibroblasts and human breast cancer cells, to investigate the impact of Weo electrolyzed water (WEW) on markers of cellular senescence, inflammation, and stress response genes.” The researchers compared normal human lung fibroblasts (BJ) and breast cancer cells (T47D) treated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to induce senescence. They assessed the molecular impact of WEW on markers of cellular senescence, senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) factors, and stress response genes. Treatment with WEW modulated markers of cellular senescence, such as the senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) activity, EdU incorporation and p21 expression, similarly in both cell types. However, WEW modulated the expression of SASP factors and stress response genes in a cell type-dependent and opposite fashion, significantly decreasing them in BJ cells, while stimulating their expression in T47D cells. Reduction in the expression of SASP factors and stress-related genes in BJ cells suggests that WEW acts as a protective factor, thereby reducing oxidative stress in normal cells, while making cancer cells more sensitive to the effects of cellular stress, thus increasing their elimination and consequently reducing their deleterious effects. “In conclusion, we have shown here that the new technology developed by Weo, WEW, could attenuate the overall process of cellular senescence in both normal BJ fibroblasts and cancer T47D cells.” DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.205789 Corresponding authors - Brenda L. You are showing all signs of Hypothyroidism and yet your lab work and especially your thyroid numbers are all normal. Is that even possible? It is indeed very possible and it's more prevalent than we think says Dr. Eric Balcavage. He chalks it all up to a condition called Cellular Hypothyroidism. Cellular Hypothyroidism occurs when our cells fail to act on and absorb the normal levels of Thyroid Hormones produced by the body. The process of making the Thyroid gland is a complex one with so many steps and interfaces between the trigger from the hypothalamus and the final synthesis of T3 hormones by our cells. The present conventional approach to thyroid is a glandular one where all thyroid related symptoms and disorders are attributed to the malfunctioning of the thyroid gland with little or no regard for the processes that happen at the cellular level. Further the treatment for thyroid disorders is a fragmented one with so much emphasis on replacement thyroid hormones, supplements, rigid diets etc that what is lost in translation is the redressal of the root causes of the symptoms that we are experiencing. How can we better handle the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid conditions? That's the central theme of Dr. Balcavage's book - The Thyroid Debacle. Watch this video to learn more. Thyroid struggles? This show is where you need to be then for the next 70 minutes. I am thrilled to have back on the show Dr Eric Balcavage, a relentless crusader in thyroid health education and long-term root-causes-based healing. He is one of the duo that has written a new book called The Thyroid Debacle, the co-author also being a past show guest, Dr Kelly Halderman. Kelly Halderman, a conventionally trained and practised physician was hit by two chronic health conditions, one being MS and through her trusting that something more could be done than what she was being told was her lot in life, discovered functional medicine and hasn't looked back. Eric, seeing sick patient after patient that no amount of spinal adjustments could support for long-term healing in his chiropractic practice felt the same. And so, thanks to these two Drs broadening their understanding of what helps humans achieve homeostasis and lasting improved health, and practising with and educating thousands around the world, we have a powerhouse tackling a thyroid-illness epidemic and having read the book myself I can honestly say I know just how impactful it will be for people to read it and practice what they learn from its pages. Today isn't all about the book though, as we explore thyroid testing, what gaps there are in current treatments, how you can be on meds and still feel awful and so much more. In this episode of the Thyroid Answers Podcast, I am joined by Dr. Kelly Halderman and Madeleine Lowry to discuss emotional stress, the cell danger response, and the Map Method. Madeleine is a certified Map Method Practitioner. The MAP Method is an advanced neural retraining method that works directly with the subconscious mind. The MAP Method is a technique used by trained practitioners to essentially change how your brain responds to experiences and your environment. There are many things that cause our bodies to be in a danger response. Some of them we are aware of and some of them we are not. A MAP practitioner may be able to help you address these mental blocks that are causing a chronic danger response, driving hypothyroidism, and preventing you from getting well. In this episode we discuss: What the MAP Method is and how it differs from other techniques How the MAP Method works Who might benefit from this technique and more... Madeleine Lowry NTP, CMMP - Nutritional Therapy & MAP Method Practitioner is a certified Nutritional Therapy and MAP Method Practitioner specializing in allergies and sensitivities, digestive issues, and autoimmunity for clients of all ages. Over time, her experience with working with the brain and witnessing the improvements in chronic health issues led her to incorporate self-directed neural retraining methods in her practice. In Episode 052 of A Medicinal Mind: Wisdom and Wellbeing, I share space with integrative and naturopathic physician, a pioneer in the field of nutrigenomics, Dr. Kelly Halderman. Dr. Kelly Halderman completed a Family Practice Medicine internship with the University of Minnesota; has a Naturopathic Medical Degree from Kingdom College of Natural Health where she is the current Academic Dean of Students. She holds certification in MethylGenetic Nutrition by the Nutrigenetic Research Institute and certification from The American Functional Neurology Institute in Functional Neurology and Neurofeedback. Despite the temptation to simply geek out in the world of nutrigenomics, detoxification and chronic disease, we spend most of this enlightening conversation exploring the miraculous background and journey of Dr. Kelly. Beginning with a walk through her early childhood, we are given a glimpse at Dr. Kelly's spiritual background, the ethos by which her first years were imbued. Sharing reflections from her experiences witnessing her father's own chronic illness, Dr Kelly provides a rather raw showcase of her first visions of healthcare, physicians and the medical system as a whole. Stepping away from her years as a witness to medicine, she then leads us into her own years in medical school and residency, ultimately leading to her own period of suffering, disillusionment and incredible awakening into the true power of healing when one surrenders to the powers of something greater. Offering story after story of her life's journey, Dr. Kelly illustrates the foundation by which she currently practices blending her deep spiritual roots with her fascination with the quantifiable, the biochemical and the poetically physiological. Stepping away to end our journey in the world of nutrition, genomics, and detoxification, Dr Kelly starts us off with a description and definition of nutrigenomics. From here she guides us into practical applications of how understanding one's genetic template, its current state of expression, and the nutrients we supply it impact the progression or reversal of chronic disease. Providing a solid foundation for understanding our genetic code Dr. Kelly leads us into a thoughtful explanation of how certain genetic variations or SNP's when expressed within the context of poor lifestyle habits can lead to compounding negative effects and perpetuation of chronic disease. She even gives us a sampling of some of the most common genetic variants and how she is seeking to support individuals with these SNP's suffering from a myriad of symptoms and chronic illness. Dr. Kelly closes the conversation with an elegant summary of detoxification, including the newly understood phase 2.5, and how we can apply an evidence based approach to detoxification so that we do not end up in the world of expensive and potentially harmful green medicine. Lastly, I am incredibly excited to announce, if you are listening to this upon its initial release, that I have just joined my amazing team of functional clinicians at the Charlottesville Center for Functional Medicine and am now accepting new patients seeking support through functional and lifestyle medicine.
