What if inflammation and autoimmune conditions aren't problems to suppress, but signals that the body is struggling to repair? In this episode, Dr. Jen sits down with Dr. J. Russell Jaffe, a pioneer in integrative medicine, to explore a fundamentally different lens on chronic illness. Drawing from decades of experience in molecular biology and clinical diagnostics, Dr. Jaffe explains why inflammation reflects a “repair deficit,” how chronic stress and elevated cortisol disrupt immune function, and why modern medicine often misses the deeper drivers of disease. The conversation also dives into environmental toxins, emotional trauma, and lifestyle patterns that quietly overwhelm the body, and how returning to simplicity, nature, and mindful living can restore resilience, vitality, and long-term health.Dr. J. Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, CCN, is a pioneer in integrative medicine with over 40 years of experience in molecular biology and clinical diagnostics. After serving on the senior staff of the NIH and becoming board-certified in Clinical and Chemical Pathology, he shifted his focus toward root-cause, patient-centered care. As the founder of PERQUE Integrative Health and ELISA/ACT Biotechnologies, Dr. Jaffe has authored nearly 100 scientific articles and developed predictive biomarkers to identify underlying contributors to chronic illness.
What if autoimmune disease is not an overactive immune system, but a loss of immune tolerance? In our latest episode, I sit down with Dr. Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, CCN, a pioneer in integrative and functional medicine, to unpack the difference between suppressing symptoms and restoring true immune balance. We explore the concept of immune competence, why inflammation often reflects a repair deficit, and how the body's innate intelligence can be supported rather than silenced. Dr. Jaffe challenges the conventional "anti" model of medicine and instead emphasizes evoking repair through bioavailable nutrition and targeted lifestyle strategies. We discuss autoimmune disease, immune tolerance, advanced biomarkers, and the critical role of nutrients like vitamin C in cellular repair and resilience. This conversation reframes longevity as healthspan and vitality, reminding us that sustainable healing begins by restoring balance at the systems level. If you are ready to rethink inflammation, immunity, and what true healing looks like, this episode is for you. Key takeaways: Transformation through Adversity: Tyler Bramlett's career shifted due to personal injuries, leading him to develop a fitness philosophy focused on movement freedom and longevity rather than aesthetics. Critique of Traditional Fitness Culture: Tyler discusses the toxic narratives in the fitness industry that drive people towards self-loathing and unhealthy pursuits of physical perfection. Personalized Approach to Fitness: Through We Shape, Tyler emphasizes the importance of customized workouts that honor individual needs, capabilities, and health conditions. Movement Snacks for Health: Tyler suggests incorporating small, mindful movement practices throughout the day to enhance mobility and health without the rigidity of structured workouts. Mindset and Community: A supportive community and a positive mindset are crucial for real health transformations, shifting the focus from external validation to internal well-being. More About Tyler Bramlett: Tyler Bramlett is a movement coach, father, and Co-founder of WeShape whose path was reshaped by a cycling accident that shattered his femur and permanently damaged his knee. Unable to return to traditional, appearance-driven fitness routines, he began a 15-year healing journey that included multiple surgeries and deep study in functional anatomy, biomechanics, and rehabilitation. Through working with top physical therapists and coaches, he discovered that real transformation comes from moving smarter, not pushing harder. This led him to reject shame-based fitness culture and create an approach centered on alignment, mindful movement, and what he calls "movement freedom" — the ability to live without feeling trapped in a body that hurts. After building and later stepping away from a multi-million-dollar fitness company that ranked on the Inc. 500 for three consecutive years, Tyler and his wife founded WeShape to challenge the belief that worth is tied to appearance. His work now sits at the intersection of movement, psychology, and culture, helping primarily women 50+ reduce pain, restore confidence, and build healthier relationships with their bodies. With more than 800 million views and 6.3 million followers across platforms, Tyler blends personal story, practical expertise, and emotional depth. His message resonates widely, making him a compelling voice in conversations around wellness, mindset, resilience, and the future of fitness. Website Instagram Facebook YouTube Connect with me! The thyroid helps keep the body working at the right speed — but what happens if yours isn't functioning well? Many people know that fatigue is a symptom of a dysfunctional thyroid, but it can affect a wide variety of functions in addition to that because thyroid hormone is involved in nearly all aspects of how our bodies function. If there are issues with it — which there are for an estimated one in seven people, many of whom are unaware of it — it can hinder your ability to live a healthy and active lifestyle in a myriad of ways. In this episode, Jim LaValle, RPh, CCN, dives into this topic, explaining why thyroid health is vital for staying active and energized. On today's Daily Windup, I'm diving into the Community Care Network (CCN) and how it reshaped the way the VA provides care to veterans across the country. My guest Lori Smith shares how she stepped up to support Region 4—covering 14 Western states—only to end up helping manage a $128 billion portfolio of healthcare contracts. From IVF treatments to dental and home health visits, CCN has become the VA's largest network of independent providers, ensuring veterans receive quality care when the VA can't meet demand in-house. We also talk about Lori's mission today with AccuEligent—helping small businesses, minority-owned, and women-owned firms get educated, compliant, and truly prepared to step into the world of government contracting. Too many firms win awards but fail because they don't understand the 60-day payment delays, the proposal fine print, or compliance requirements. This episode is packed with insight on how to avoid those costly mistakes and position your business to win and actually deliver.

Tom welcomes back Tavi Costa, Portfolio Manager at Crescat Capital, to discuss the current state of gold, silver, mining stocks, and broader economic trends. Costa emphasizes that despite technical indicators suggesting overbought conditions in gold, the underlying macroeconomic factors point to continued strength in precious metals. He highlights the role of central banks, particularly in emerging markets like China, Russia, and Turkey, which have been significant buyers of gold. Costa argues that gold's revaluation is driven by global debt imbalances, de-globalization trends, and countries seeking to stabilize their monetary systems. He also explains how higher gold prices can increase the U.S. Treasury's cash reserves, enabling buybacks of Treasuries without quantitative easing, which he believes will be a critical tool for managing debt. Costa is bullish on mining stocks, noting they are historically undervalued relative to U.S. equities and have outperformed over the past decade. He suggests that as global infrastructure needs grow and supply chains shift, mining companies will play a crucial role in meeting demand for essential commodities. Additionally, he points out the attractive valuations of silver, given its high gold-to-silver ratio, which he believes could lead to significant price appreciation. The discussion also touches on the U.S. dollar's structural downtrend, driven by high debt levels and interest payment burdens, and how this impacts emerging markets positively. Costa predicts that lower yields on short-term Treasuries will benefit miners and other sectors. He concludes by advocating for increased exposure to energy stocks due to geopolitical tensions and rising oil prices. Understanding genuine health often requires us “looking under the hood,” so to speak. If we want to feel and function at our best for as long as we can and ward off chronic disease, there are certain areas of internal health that can be helpful to test and track to give us a clearer look at how our body is operating now.
