Hey there friends! On today's episode, I'm really excited because I'm speaking with my friend Christie Gee. Christie Gee is many things, one of which is the podcast host for her show The Christie Gee Podcast. She's interviewed some amazing artists like Chris Carrabba from Dashboard Confessional, Kris Roe of The Ataris, Matt Pryor of The Get Up Kids, and many more. She's also an extremely creative person, she's an artist who does custom portraits for folks, as well as a maker of buttons, stickers, pins, and art. She's even worked on some album art which is really cool. I started following her a few years ago on social media, and I've always enjoyed her enthusiasm for all things 90's, but also because she's a fan of pop punk and emo of the 90's and into the 2000's. I love that she's a big fan of Empire Records as that's one of my favorite movies that I grew up with and it makes total sense that she's making buttons that not only honor that film but pays tribute to so many different bands and things. We talk about growing up in a small town in Texas, moving to California, embracing country music, selling stuff to celebrities, doing creative work, and pursuing your dreams despite all the naysayers and doubters. It was an absolute pleasure speaking with Christie. I really do think we could talk about this stuff for hours. I had a lot of fun. So, without further ado, please enjoy this wide-ranging and fun convo with Christie Gee.
Whether the bands changed their sound or just couldn't capture the audience they did on other albums, I go through some of my favorite slept on records from Green Day, The Ataris, Big Star, Get Up Kids, blink-182 and more!Check out the Power Chord Hour radio show every Friday night at 10 est on 107.9 WRFA in Jamestown, NY, stream the station online at wrfalp.com/streaming/ or listen on the WRFA mobile appRate & review the podcast - send us a screenshot for a free PCH shirt!email me for FREE Power Chord Hour guitar picks - powerchordhour@gmail.comFacebook - www.facebook.com/powerchordhourInstagram - www.instagram.com/powerchordhour/Twitter - www.twitter.com/powerchordhour/Youtube - www.youtube.com/channel/UC6jTfzjB3-mzmWM-51c8LggSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/user/kzavhk5ghelpnthfby9o41gnr?si=4WvOdgAmSsKoswf_HTh_Mg
In this episode I chat with long time friend Kris Roe of The Ataris!I have been listening to The Ataris since the late 90's, so when they rolled through Long Beach in 2012 and played a show at a local pizza spot I was friggin' excited! I also became friends with Kris that day and 8 years later we sit and talk about all kinds of fun stuff ranging from life during quarantine, live-streaming Ataris' jams, his favorite songs & albums to play and some not so fun stuff like how he has gotten Covid not once BUT twice. Why do Wingman Steve & Chris-183 never learn that love is wrong and girls are evil? Maybe they're just not as intense as Kris Roe and the Ataris, but they sure love this band and the music they made. Wingman & Chris are joined by one of Wingman's oldest friends, Ryan - who has been around for all of those tear-filled and angry nights listening to these albums. They discuss The Ataris discography and rank their favorite songs - which can be streamed in this playlist! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Aqrm2pT0TkFpbPhiekfr1?si=ap7CUCUkSM6P8HxGTDTJzQ Be sure to follow us on all social media @HSNEpod and visit http://www.hsnepod.com for official merchandise and more! Whine & Cheese – Episode 15: The Boys of Winter are back from a brief holiday break with dreams of the beaches of Astoria in this week’s episode where they discuss The Ataris’ So Long Astoria and the childhood classic The Goonies. Joey and Mike reflect on their decision to not see The Ataris play this record in its entirety back on Halloween and they are perfectly content with that choice after revisiting the record. They can’t quite figure out what Kris Roe is really ever talking about and wonder if he’s alright. Something something about making memories and taking back wishes. The Jake & Francis Fratelli of the podcast world have some big news to share as they call an old friend of the show. Stick around to find out. Whine & Cheese: A Podcast About Whiny Records and Cheesy Movies began in Spring 2018. It is a love letter to all things whiny and cheesy from Rites of Spring to Hawthorne Heights, Varsity Blues to Fifty First Dates, and everything in between. Listen as the pairing of Joey Breeding and Mike Paulshock mix and match two of life’s great audio & visual pleasures. Twitter and Instagram. While you’re at it, email us with your pairing suggestions, questions, Weird Al parodies, and comments! As always, ratings & reviews go a long way and are appreciated. Thanks LVAC for the support!
