She guides viewers through a somatic listening practice, encouraging them to be present, explore sensations, and describe them using feeling and sensing words. This episode is part 4 of the NOURISH YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM series. Lindsey Lockett discusses the impact of trauma on the brain and nervous system. She defines trauma as the energy of an event or long-term pattern that triggers a fight, flight, freeze, or fawn response and burdens the nervous system. Trauma can cause a person to become stuck in a loop of disconnection, unhealthy emotional expression, and physical dis-ease. Lindsey explains that trauma changes the structure and chemical activity of the brain, decreases the size and connectivity of certain regions, and enlarges the fear center (amygdala). She also explores the concept of complex PTSD and its symptoms, as well as the link between trauma and neurodivergence (ADD, ADHD, and the spectrum of autism). She provides strategies for healing brain inflammation, including nourishing foods, omega-3 fatty acids, gut health, nervous system regulation, and reducing what she calls "lifestyle inflammation." Send us a Text Message. We're coming in with a SPICY episode of Webs of Truth. In case you're new here, Webs of Truth is a sub-podcast collaboration between myself and Lindsey Lockett from the Holistic Trauma Healing Podcast. Today, we are unpacking the questionable marketing choices that many nervous system and somatic coaches are making. We'd love to advocate for nervous system tools to be woven into every part of how your community interacts with you, beginning at the level of marketing. In our candid conversation, we tackle the commodification of healing in the age of social media, where somatic practices are marketed as quick fixes. We dissect the troubling trend of needing to fix 'functional freezes' and argue for the importance of acknowledging and integrating the full spectrum of human emotions in the healing journey. Navigating the nuances of marketing somatic practices, we discuss how to stay ethical in a space that often blurs the lines. The integrity of healing work lies in respecting each person's unique journey rather than succumbing to the pressures of quick results. Join Lindsey and myself as we shine the light on a path toward a more genuine, ethical approach to marketing nervous system work, where transparency and trust lead the way to a deeper connection with ourselves and our communities. Have you ever found yourself caught in the undercurrent of 'should', where every cell in your body resists the societal pull towards productivity, yet your mind chastises you for every unproductive moment? Together, we walk through the shadows of perfectionism that linger from childhood, discussing how they shape our lives and contribute to the anxiety that often comes with the pursuit of a polished exterior. Our journey doesn't stop at the surface struggles; we plunge into the deep waters of shame, guilt, and self-doubt. Sharing stories close to our hearts, we shine a light on the often-invisible burden these emotions place on our day-to-day lives, from the dishwasher left unloaded to the gym membership card gathering dust. We grapple with the dichotomy of desire and guilt, the magnetic pull of both, and how they shape our relationship with self-discipline. Our candid tales weave through emotional resistance to exercise and the surprising revelations of bodily communication, hoping to strike a chord with those who have ever felt the weight of their own expectations. As we wrap up this episode, we turn the lens towards self-compassion and balance. We reflect on our own journeys with exploringthe delicate dance of managing weight in a way that honors our health and well-being while not bypassing the emotional tumult of communicating with our bodies, . In this episode, we're chatting about business as a spiritual practice, ethical marketing, and cultivating a reciprocal relationship with one's business with frequent podcast guest Kat Lee. Kat shares her experiences with various businesses and how they have shaped how she does business today. Lindsey and Kat explore the concept of the Dao, a guiding principle, and its application to business and life. They emphasize the cyclical nature of business, with seasons of growth and contraction, and how these phases can lead to greater alignment and clarity in one's business. Additionally, they touch upon the importance of support and containment, especially for those with a more expansive and watery nature. They discuss the importance of incorporating earthy practices to provide containment for emotions, using a nature analogy of riverbanks to illustrate the need for boundaries and strength. The conversation also delves into the drawbacks of fast-paced, high-pressure business growth and the need for a sustainable, long-term approach. The idea of foundational work and flexibility in business development is likened to homesteading and the careful planning and adaptation required to manage land effectively — without immediate gratification. It underscores the value of slowing down and being open to pivoting when necessary. Kat shares about her one-of-a-kind group coaching program Business Alchemist Mentorship (BAM), which focuses on business as a spiritual practice and developing a reciprocal relationship with your business. The program covers various aspects of entrepreneurship, including clarifying values and ethics, finding your niche, conscious marketing, and more. It also fosters a supportive community among participants, promoting collaboration and networking opportunities. If you don't know Lindsey Lockett, go check out her page and podcast asap! She's an amazing educator on all things trauma, C-PTSD, nervous system , good girl, boundaries, and people pleasing. I resonate with so much of her story and teachings, so I am sure you will too! Lindsey Lockett is a trauma educator, nervous system coach, and the host of the Holistic Trauma Healing Podcast. After leaving behind the dogmas of fundamentalist religion and toxic wellness culture, Lindsey experienced her own dark night of the soul. During the healing journey that followed, she realized that trauma affects us as WHOLE people and therefore, we need to heal as WHOLE people. Although Lindsey has benefitted tremendously from therapy and psychiatry, these modalities never totally resonated with her because she found that they forced her to fragment herself rather than heal holistically. She set out to find an affordable and accessible approach that integrates the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and ancestral parts of our being… and then she woke up and started taking care of her nervous system. She now teaches about nervous system regulation, awareness, and healing trauma through online workshops, group coaching, and 1:1 coaching. On this episode of the Healthy + Happy Podcast, Dr. Slade is talking with special guest Lindsey Lockett about trauma and how it gets stored in the body. More about Lindsey: Lindsey Lockett is a trauma educator, nervous system coach, and the host of the Holistic Trauma Healing Podcast. She set out to find an affordable and accessible approach that integrates the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and ancestral parts of our being… and discovered the magic of the nervous system! She works with clients one on one, helps people through her workshops and group programs, and is building conscious community in her private online community, the Trauma Healers Circle. Lindsey lives on 6 beautiful acres of wilderness in Northeastern Minnesota with her husband of 20 years. She loves foraging and making her own plant medicines and cold plunging in Lake Superior. Lindsey Lockett is a trauma educator, coach, podcast host and self-proclaimed “awareness junkie and nervous system ninja”. She joined me to continue our two-part conversation about spirituality. (To listen to part 1, head to Episode #79 of the Holistic Trauma Healing Podcast). Lindsey spent the first 30 years of her life as an evangelical Christian, but had a reckoning at age 33 and a traumatic dark night of the soul that provoked her to reinvent her life from the ground up. We speak about her journey of developing an individual approach to belief and meaning, and her commitment to understanding herself and the world in ways that challenge the status-quo. We speak about our mutual dedication to critical thinking, reinventing ourselves, and resisting fundamentalist/black & white thinking. We talk about belonging, ancestry, past life regressions, honoring the earth, and Lindsey tells a story about this one time she sacrificed a pig with her neighbors in order to pray for rain. On today's show, Lindsey Lockett, the Holistic Trauma Healing Podcast host, joins Kristen and discusses the ups and downs of labels. Labels can help deepen self-awareness and compassion, and they can be restrictive if we don't leave room to evolve. Lindsey says it best; labels can be beneficial and limiting. However, if a label has us looking outside ourselves in fear and blame, it isn't serving us. Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/realizedempath)
We all have a body.AND we all have a story about our body. In particular, We all grow up with a story about what we are allowed to do and not allowed to do with our bodies. And in turn, We all have a story about what other people should do or not do with their bodies. Today, we are going to chat with Lindsey Lockett about Body Sovereignty. She and I are two people who view the world through a trauma-informed lens, we have been seeing the wounds around Bodies on full display in our current events. Life-long friendships are being dismantled over thoughts about the vaccine. Families make agreements about not talking about certain topics at the dinner table. We are unable to bridge the gaps in opinions and see the humanity in another person who has a different lived experience than ourselves and therefore has a different thought and perspective than ourselves. What I find so healing about this conversation with Lindsey is that she is someone who embodies her story, so unapologetically and so unflinchingly that her story of trauma has alchemized into medicine. And from this place, she shares her wisdom about what body sovereignty actually means - to live, breathe and share it with her community. Lindsey Lockett is the host of the Holistic Trauma Healing Podcast who educates her community about trauma in a fully integrated approach that melds together the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and ancestral parts of their being. Listen To This Episode If…You want to understand how to integrate your traumas around Body Sovereignty so you can exercise full autonomy in the choices you make about your Body and in turn, encourage others to make about their Body. What You'll Learn in this Episode: What “Body Sovereignty” and “Informed Consent” meansWhy being denied sovereignty over our Bodies is so traumaticWhat the “Window of Tolerance” is and how to effectively use it as a toolWhy equating control with safety is an illusionYour Speakers:Kat Lee is an Intimacy + Relationship Coach, host of The Empowered Curiosity Podcast and Creator of The Heart Lab. I am thrilled to have Lindsey Lockett back on the show for her 3rd appearance! In this episode, we discuss Lindsey's new online program, Belief Beyond The Binary. After spending much of her life moving from one binary belief system to another (evangelical Christianity to diet culture to social justice activism), Lindsey has worked to train her brain, her nervous system and her heart to be more comfortable in the grey. As you'll learn in this episode, seeing the world from a binary set of beliefs is harmful not only to ourselves, but also to our relationships and communities. In this episode, we discuss: How anything can become a binary belief system and why someone might be more inclined to turn something into a bbs The self transformation that happened for her in creating Belief Beyond The Binary Separating people from ideologies and understanding that people who fall into bbs aren't nefarious, but often good people who are very scared How the 'hive mind' or group think is created The outsourcing of our goodness to external sources like activism, religion or diet culture Our propensity to always find an enemy to fight What role our sense of belonging plays in leading us to proselytize about our beliefs to others Allowing your beliefs to be something you choose vs something you're coerced into The difference between online activism and harassment The dangers of compelled speech and the expectation that everyone on the internet be a geopolitical expert Learning to coexist with people who think differently than us The importance of boundaries in moving beyond binary belief systems Lindsey's passion for this work shines through in this episode and is one of the many reasons I trust her as a leader in this space. We discuss: How religious programming plays a role in priming us for black and white thinking The very real nervous system response that happens when you're attacked online Depathologizing defensiveness The characteristics of cult thinking that show up in diet culture, fundamentalist religion and identity politics Becoming your own moral authority We had so much to discuss that there will be a part 2 coming out in 2 weeks!
