Rex Riepe is a philosopher who created the Eristics Test as a tool for helping people understand how they process emotions. In his view, emotions are a deeply rational aspect of our personalities that argue for us to take specific actions in three spheres - the self, the world, and society. We discuss the structure that he has developed for understanding the relationship between emotions, how he identified the fundamental building blocks of our interior landscapes, the way that different personalities fit together, and how unexamined emotional strategies can take on a life of their own. Paul Selig is considered to be one of the foremost spiritual channels working today. In his breakthrough works of channeled literature — I Am the Word, The Book of Love and Creation, The Book of Knowing and Worth, The Book of Mastery, The Book of Truth, The Book of Freedom, and the Beyond the Known Trilogy: Realization, Alchemy, and The Kingdom (see books page) — author and medium Paul Selig has recorded an extraordinary program for personal and planetary evolution as humankind awakens to its own divine nature. Paul was born in New York City and received his master's degree from Yale. A spiritual experience in 1987 left him clairvoyant. As a way to gain a context for what he was beginning to experience he studied a form of energy healing and began to “hear” for his clients. Described as “a medium for the living,” Paul has the unique ability to step-into and “become” the people his clients ask about, often taking on their personalities and physical characteristics as he “hears” them telepathically. Paul's work is widely featured in a variety of media, including ABC News Nightline, Fox News, the Biography Channel series The UneXplained, Gaiam TV's Beyond Belief and the documentary film PGS: Your Personal Guidance System. He has appeared on numerous radio shows and podcasts including Coast to Coast AM with George Noory and Bob Olson's Afterlife TV. ___________________ PODCAST CHAPTERS 00:00:00 - Paul Selig Intro 00:03:42 - Contemplating Death, Mortality, Stillness 00:07:30 - The Shift in Perception of Time 00:11:02 - The Non-Linearity of Consciousness 00:14:01 - Becoming Wayshowers of New Earth 00:17:06 - Paul's Childhood Psychic Experiences 00:20:32 - Seeking God Through Us 00:23:58 - Becoming the Doorway for Upper Room 00:27:25 - The Divine Self and Expansion 00:36:43 - Manifestation, Altering Matter & Transfiguration of Reality 00:40:40 - Moving to the Essential Self 00:43:47 - The Upper Room and the Denial of the Divine 00:46:59 - The Malleability of Form 00:50:23 - The Choice of Fear and the Futility of War 00:53:39 - Facing Fear and Reckoning 00:56:41 - Dismantling and the Mass Awakening 00:59:36 - The Awakening of the New Generation to Leadership 01:02:47 - The Generational Fall of Kingdoms, Religion, Structures 01:09:01 - Paul's Channeling Process 01:13:10 - Time Capsule Question ___________________ Guest: Paul Selig | World-Renowned Channeler of the Guides Website | https://paulselig.com/ All Channeled Literature | https://paulselig.com/books/ Latest: Book of Innocence, Manifestation Trilogy | https://paulselig.com/books/innocence/ Members Community | https://www.studentsoftheguides.com/ Book a Reading with Paul | https://paulselig.com/readings/ Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/paul.selig/ YouTube | @PaulSelig Host: Emilio Ortiz Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/iamemilioortiz/ Subscribe to YouTube Channel |  @EmilioOrtiz  Watch Emilio's latest series on 4biddenknowledge TV l https://bit.ly/AwakenThe6thSense Shop Our Clothing Collection l https://www.unlockedmovement.com/collections/justtapin ___________________ Special Offerings to Support the Show: ✦ Make a One-Time or Recurring Donation on PayPal

“As you grow older, your brain is able to keep rewiring all the time. And so we have this impression that the flexibility of the brain decreases as you get older. But in fact, it's just because your brain's job is just to figure out how to get by in the world and do a good job in the world. And once you've figured most things out, like, oh, these are different kinds of personalities, and this is how I need to do something at work, and this is how I use email and phone and whatever, then your brain does less changing only because it has successfully done its job, and it doesn't need to keep changing. The brain changes when there's surprise, when there's something that happened that it wasn't expecting, then it changes up. So, you still have plenty of plasticity even when you're 90 years old. It's just that most people aren't using it at that point because they say, Oh, I got it. I know how things work.” So says David Eagleman, renowned neuroscientist, podcast host, and the author of many bestselling books about consciousness and the brain—along with more than 120 academic publications. Besides his perch as a neuroscientist at Stanford University, David is the co-founder of two venture-backed companies, including Neosensory, which is a pioneering wrist device that enables the deaf to hear. Yep, that's right. David is fascinating, and hopefully this conversation lives up to his capacity: We discuss the malleability of the brain to adjust to its inputs, the roots of synesthesia, how those who are born blind and deaf can now use touch to see and hear, and why we dream. Ultimately, we explore just how it happens that a brain trapped in a dark vault can create the vibrancy of our existence. David is a TED speaker, a Guggenheim Fellow, and serves on several boards, including the American Brain Foundation and the The Long Now Foundation. He is the Chief Scientific Advisor for the Mind Science Foundation, and the winner of Claude Shannon Luminary Award from Bell Labs and the McGovern Award for Excellence in Biomedical Communication. What's cooler? He has served as the scientific advisor to several television shows (including Westworld and Perception). Ironically—considering we both host podcasts and David is a neuroscientist—we had some technical difficulties during our conversation, but the hope is that this is not perceptible to you!  MORE FROM DAVID EAGLEMAN: Livewired: The Inside Story of the Ever-Changing Brain The Brain: The Story of You Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives David's Podcast: “Inner Cosmos” David's Website Follow David on Instagram David's Company: Neosensory To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Tough Tech Today with Meyen and Miller

In one sentence...Aging is malleable and there is a particular, mysterious protein of interest that may enable new therapies for age-related diseases such as stroke, diabetes, and obesity.Young blood in old bodies has been demonstrated in several studies to counteract some age-correlated ailments. Mark Allen, a medical doctor by training and an entrepreneur in practice, co-founded Elevian to understand and commercialize therapies using a recombinant growth differentiation factor known as GDF11, a ‘magic' protein, as referenced by the New York Times. Dr. Allen describes how his team is developing new medicines targeting the aging process, rather than the prevailing approach of most pharmaceutical products that target individual diseases. Highlighting a surprising result, if humanity was able to eradicate cancer completely, the outcome would only increase the average human lifespan by an estimated two to three years, while doubling the incidence of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's. With its scientific foundations beginning emerging from the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, the Elevian team is rigorously exploring GDF11 and its effective use while navigating commercialization challenges. Specifically, how can an age-related therapy be reimbursable when “age” is not yet officially a disease (based on medical billing code)? We discuss with Dr. Allen about Elevian's path ahead and the strategies at work.

Mimesis, mimetic desire, and metaphysical desire are the fundamental building blocks of Girard's psychology. They will show us how even the most intimate aspects of our identity can be radically shaped by others and how to distinguish vanity from authenticity. These psychological fundaments are what make humans social animals, why prestige and recognition matter so much to us, and how we are able to form cultures and even language itself. They are responsible for humanity's greatest achievements, but they also render us helplessly fallen. Under scrutiny, metaphysical desire will reveal itself to be none other than original sin. 00:00:00 Introduction00:03:51 Mimesis00:08:16 Mimesis and Normativity00:17:34 Mimetic Desire00:29:17 What is Meant by "Being"00:31:53 The First End of Being: Reality00:34:38 The Second End of Being: Persistence00:35:31 The Third End of Being: Self-sufficiency00:41:36 Metaphysical Desire00:50:14 The Malleability of Metaphysical Desire00:52:09 The Power of Metaphysical Desire00:53:30 The Deceitfulness of Metaphysical Desire00:58:18 The Ungovernability of Metaphysical Desire01:00:31 Original Sin

Welcome to the Dior Talks podcast series themed around the seventh edition of Dior Lady Art and hosted by Paris-based journalist Katya Foreman. For this year's event, 11 artists from around the world have participated in a game of metamorphosis by rendering the iconic Lady Dior handbag as a unique piece of art.   Drawing on his life experience growing up in a mixed-race family, universal representations of the human experience remain central to the work of rising Californian artist Alex Gardner.   “I really wanted to make this generic avatar of a person that is sans identity,” says the artist whose stylized figurative paintings portray androgynous, featureless Black subjects.    Here, the artist chose to reinterpret his work ‘Malleability,' depicting a hand pressing down on an ambiguous part of another figure.    “I was thinking about how easy it is to manipulate and get in the heads and control the actions of people,” says Gardner. “Fashion, for instance, has a lot of influence on culture, and then for anyone who wears the bag, it's the influence they may feel they have on the room.”    Maintaining the bag's silhouette and form, the artist, whose inspirations range from 16th century European art to movies, chose to experiment with materials. The bag's lining is in a blazing shade of cadmium red and the exterior features a pearlescent, holographic molded leather suggesting draped fabric, while the body parts are in contrasting matte black velvet.    Being approached to participate in Dior Lady Art proved a creative curveball for the artist who is hoping to do more functional objects and three-dimensional work.   Concludes Gardner: “It was actually the perfect timing to face the challenge of making this very cool art object, but also maintaining a lot of functionality because, at the end of the day, I do want people to be able to use it as a bag. So, that push and pull.”   Tune into the episode to learn more about the artist's fascinating universe.

What does Mister Fantastic from the comic books' famous Fantastic Four, Elastigirl from Pixar's "The Incredibles" movies, and Soviet Union Olympic gold medal grabbing gymnast Nadia Comaneci have in common that matters to your business? Cosmic superpowers, obviously. But how do you harness otherworldly superpowers to help your business thrive and grow? Well, first you'll need access to cosmic gamma rays, weapons grade uranium or whatever cocktail of anti-growth hormones they gave poor Nadia...   Flexibility. The answer is flexibility, which is something that can be used and replicated in your business without getting radiation sickness or being put on some sort of government watchlist. On this week's Overlap Podcast, our boys Sid and Keith are blessed to have in house the Mogul of Malleability, the Abbot of Adjustability, the Foreman of Flexibility Tim Sansom, Director of Sales for Sexton Lawn and Landscape, First of His Name. Tim started from the bottom and now he's here, chock full of wisdom, truth and vital information for your everyday life.   As Tim's career arc shows, flexibility is a key factor that will help you rise up in an organization. By showing willingness to step up to the plate and do what needs to be done, even if it isn't in your official positional roles, you show you have the skills, know-how and insight to be given more responsibilities and more opportunities for promotion, advancement and success. For so many of us, work becomes a daily chore, a quiet humdrum of mindless and endless ticking off of checklist boxes, a slow death by a million dull, boring paper cuts of adequacy ... that got dark. But, validly dark - we owe it to ourselves and our businesses to make sure we leave room for spontaneousness, whimsy, caprice and chicanery ... an openness and welcoming spirit that embraces the unknown and unforeseen.   If you aren't willing to try new things or boldly go where no one has gone before, you're limiting your future possibilities for happiness and success in both business and in life. Tim and our boys will give you the tips, tools and tutelage you need to tack on and thrive.   Turn on, tune in and listen up to this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast.

The beauty of this particular interview is that we got to talk about all sorts of things that make guys like us tick, yet the conversation stayed attainable enough for the musical newbie to enjoy what Jason and his bandmates have to offer.the new album, the Ironic Divide, is available now and worth every red cent you can throw at it. For much of the 20th century, the consensus was that our memories are fixed and stored in the brain as literal recordings of past events. Modern research, however, has given us a better understanding. Memories constantly change. They expand, shrink, and expand again. Our memories can also be manipulated and altered by suggestion. KCRW learns about the failings and malleability of memory, and the controversy when it comes to witness testimony in court. We also learn how nostalgic memories can help us cope in difficult times.

R., Dempsey-Jones, H., Kieliba, P., Kikkert, S., Themistocleous, A. C., Emir, U., Diedrichsen, J., Saal, H. P., Makin, T. R. Abstract: Individual fingers in the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) are known to be represented separately and adjacently, forming a cortical hand map. Electrophysiological studies in monkeys show that finger amputation triggers increased selectivity to the neighbouring fingers within the deprived S1, causing local reorganisation. Neuroimaging research in humans, however, shows persistent S1 finger representation of the missing hand, even decades after amputation. We aimed to resolve these apparently contrasting evidence by examining finger representation in humans following pharmacological 'amputation' using single-finger nerve block and 7T neuroimaging. We hypothesised that beneath the apparent selectivity of individual fingers in the hand map, peripheral and central processing is distributed across fingers. If each finger contributes to the cortical representation of the others, then localised input loss will weaken finger representation across the hand map. For the same reason, the non-blocked fingers will stabilise the blocked finger's representation, resulting in persistent representation of the blocked finger. Using univariate selectivity profiling, we replicated the electrophysiological findings of local S1 reorganisation. However, more comprehensive analyses confirmed that local blocking reduced representation of all fingers across the entire hand area. Importantly, multivariate analysis demonstrated that despite input loss, representation of the blocked finger remained persistent and distinct from the unblocked fingers. Computational modelling suggested that the observed findings are driven by distributed processing underlying the topographic map, combined with homeostatic mechanisms. Our findings suggest that the long-standing depiction of the somatosensory hand map is misleading. As such, accounts for map reorganisation, e.g. following amputation, need to be reconsidered. In 1898, the United States took control of the Philippines from the Spanish. The U.S. then entered into a brutal war to make the Filipinos submit to the new colonial power. The war and subsequent decades of U.S. rule meant a small, but continuous presence of American soldiers on the islands, which, unsurprisingly, produced a notable population of children born to Filipino mothers and American fathers. Nicholas Trajano Molnar’s new book, American Mestizos, the Philippines, and the Malleability of Race, 1898-1961 (University of Missouri Press, 2017), examines the contested racial identities of these children. The United States brought a strong and binary sense of racial hierarchy to the discussion. Yet, as Molnar shows, Filipino understandings of race prevented a simple application of American ideas. The children were defined as American Mestizos locally, but many simply lived as Filipinos. Molnar’s book examines the ongoing contest over this mixed nationality and mixed race populations identity. By examining the process of racial formation of a group that never cohered as a separate identity group, American Mestizos provides uncommon insight into, as the title suggests, the malleability of race, and does so in a very readable narrative. In this episode, Molnar discusses the insights of American Mestizos about this history of racial identity in the Philippines and in the U.S. He explains some of the efforts within the Philippines and by U.S. policymakers to shape the racial identity of the Mestizos and the stakes of this debate for various segments of the U.S. military. Finally, he also discusses the research involved in the project. Christine Lamberson is an Assistant Professor of History at Angelo State University. Her research and teaching focuses on 20th-century U.S. political and cultural history.
