There are people you meet in life, whether through words, groups, from a community or work that redefine how you interact with and see life. For me, it started with words; a little book I found one rainy Sunday morning at the bookstore-- Be Like Water. I flipped through this tiny paperback, it's first sentence reading, "More than 70% of the Earth's surface is water. Every living thing is composed of water." I was intrigued so I bought it. Little did I know that book would help me through some difficult times in my life. Whether finding my center, conquering fear, channeling my energy or freeing my mind of anger and guilt. So back to the store I went and purchased his other book that I relied on heavily, Bow to Life. Dr. Cardillo is a best-selling author in the fields of health, mind-body-spirit, and psychology. His books, which include The 12 Rules of Attention: How to Avoid Screw-ups, Free Up Headspace, Do More and Be More at Work; Body Intelligence - Harness Your Body's Energies for Your Best Life; The Five Seasons; Your Playlist Can Change Your Life; Can I Have Your Attention? How to Think Fast, Find Your Focus and Sharpen Your Concentration; Bow to Life; and the body-energy classic, Be Like Water  have inspired people of all ages and backgrounds worldwide. Foreign language editions of his work have appeared in German, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, and Indian. He co-writes books for Harvard Health Publications. Joseph teaches workshops in Health and Wellness at various colleges and institutions. He is a Research Associate at the Mind-Body Science Institute and writes a health column for Live Happy Magazine. “Be formless…shapelesss….like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. Put water into a teapot, it becomes the tea pot.“ - Bruce Lee The energy of our world is far imbalanced to the Yang (of the Yin/Yang) energy of go, go, go. Its a trap most of us fall into in our modern world. To help break this programming, we take our first dive into the Lessons of the Tao Te Ching; an ancient philosophical writing that sparked an entire belief system. Heath talks about how a recent (long overdue) vacation brought him to the ocean's edge, and coincidentally a lesson popped up on how we need to BE LIKE WATER. Heath tells how a synchonistic turn of events led to him stumbling across a Wayne Dyer clip that resulted in a “nudge” from the universe. That nudge was to be a little less “notice me” and incorporate a calmer sense of being through non-action. The ultimate message; stop focusing on DO-ing and focus more on BE-ing!!!!! In today's episode, I'm chatting with fellow Aussie artist Anna Price. Anna is a Sydney-based artist who began painting full-time in 2019 after craving time away from her screen-based interior design career. Growing up she was constantly drawing, and she's circled back around to art as an adult and Mum of four. Anna paints intuitively, unscripted and untrained. She draws on her creative intelligence to come up with multiple styles of busy abstract expressionist and geometric style artworks. Her paintings are predominately large scale and involve huge amounts of bold colour. Her inspiration comes from repetition, scale, her surrounding environment and children's literature. Anna and I covered a lot of ground in this inspiring conversation, as she's fit a lot into the past few years as her art career has rapidly blossomed. We chat through her experience with commissions and why she doesn't do them anymore and mounting her first exhibition in her own gallery space. We also chat about her experience creating a repeat pattern shop and exploring making ‘art sweaters'. There is so much more in this fantastic conversation with Anna, who is incredibly generous with her information. Creativity and specifically creative thinking is being called the most important skillset to cultivate for leaders of our time.  When I first started coming across statements like this, I started asking myself, what exactly is creative thinking, how do we define it and how do we learn to cultivate it? And does research show that psychedelics can help us to think more creatively? It turns out that there's very little research that has been done exploring psychedelics and creativity.  There have been a couple of published papers that have influenced my thinking around this topic, including Natasha Mason, Ph.D., who's my guest on the show today, and the paper is titled Spontaneous and deliberate creative cognition during and after psilocybin exposure - which is one of the first double-blind, placebo-controlled studies directly exploring psychedelic and creative cognition.  Natasha Mason Ph.D., is a post-doc at Maastricht University, Dept of Psychopharmacology. She has a background in (neuro)psychology and pharmacy. Utilizing multimodal study designs, her current research assesses drug-induced neuroadaptations and their influence on affect, behavior, and cognition. As you listen to our conversation I just want to encourage you to remember that you are creative by definition of being alive. And that being creative is your birthright. And a lot of people still have old beliefs, these are old myths about creativity, and right now we are being called to think bigger - because as Einstein said we can't solve our problems at the same level of thinking that created them. Maybe you've immersed yourself in his Grammy-award winning albums. On all of these projects, Morton evinces his mastery for taking classic soul and R&B and updating it with modern sounds. Other musical legends have taken notice. On his latest release, Watch The Sun, Morton is joined by some of his own sources of inspiration, singer Stevie Wonder and rapper Nas. The three combined forces on Morton's track "Be Like Water," which recites an uplifting mantra over unsettled harmonies. The effect is hypnotizing. Lindsey spent the first 30 years of her life as an evangelical Christian, but had a reckoning at age 33 and a traumatic dark night of the soul that provoked her to reinvent her life from the ground up. We speak about her journey of developing an individual approach to belief and meaning, and her commitment to understanding herself and the world in ways that challenge the status-quo. Hello Beloved Community, Happy New Year! Thank you for being here, many of you have been with us since the beginning almost 4 years ago! Thank you, we love you, and we feel you in each of these sweet virtual gathering we have together. In this episode: Toni + Jadi discuss what has been present in the transition from 2021 to 2022. While we have both felt an energetic shift from exhaustion to the peering in of cracks of light guiding the way, we acknowledge that may not (YET) be the case for you. Stay with it. Keep breathing. Keep trusting. Keep showing up for yourself. We share our favorite water-sign cancerian practices, including baths, sprucing up the home, cozying, and RESTING. We talk about the many ways that rest can express itself and how futile it can be to compare to others. As this is the sign of the Moon and the moon represents the Mother/Feminine, we spend quite a bit of time focused on how the mothering energy can present itself and practices that can support it such as: 1. Baths with healing music: "Be Like Water" by Beautiful Chorus 2. Move what you are feeling - https://www.michaelaboehm.com/the-non-linear-movement-method-2/ May these practices continue to be of service to you. High above the lights of Los Angeles, there's a place where you can actually see the stars and planets in the dark winter sky. It's called the Mt. Wilson Observatory. Peter Gilstrap went to see what happens on Mt. Wilson when the stars come out. Plus, Catholic Latinos across the state commemorate Las Posadas, the journey of Joseph and Mary as they searched for refuge and a safe place for her to give birth to the baby Jesus. Madi Bolaños went to a celebration in Firebaugh. And we hear from Sonoma County songwriter Sean Hayes. He has a new album out called “Be Like Water.” And we mourn the loss of Mexican icon and King of Mariachi, Vicente Fernández, who died December 12th at age 81. Back in 2007, Fernández came to California on his biggest US tour to date. And the California Report's Senior Editor Victoria Mauleón brought us a story about the impact he had on his fans on this side of the border.

Her most successful songs are "Be Like Water" and "Down on my Knees", a collaboration with Romainian DJ/Producer Paul Damixie. Her newest release, "What's the Point" was released April 26, 2021. IOVA started her musical journey when she was 11 years old when she took her first piano and guitar lessons. Two years later, she founded her first rock band and started to write songs. After having entered the television world, with the teenagers' band LaLa Band, IOVA decided to move to Bucharest and pursue her dream of making music. Her musical path begun when she sent a demo with her music to Smiley, a producer with HaHaHa Production. SMILEY - HAHAHA PRODUCTION: “IOVA is a complex artist, someone who is permanently preoccupied with the creation process. When she first came to HaHaHa Production she already had a portfolio of songs written by her. It's a different genre of music, but I think she's got so much to offer as an artist.” IOVA released her single, Be Like Water, an electro-pop song backed up by HaHaHa Production. Her first single was followed by other tracks that entered Romanian radio charts and were successful on various digital platforms: "Down on my Knees" featuring Paul Damixie, “North”, “Work It Out” and ”Hit the Gas”. In 2020, she released several singles. The first one was “Break the Law”, followed by two more collaborations. One with Paul Damixie: “Empty Room” and the other with Seredinschi: “Totul Sau Nimic”). Nichole shares her story of how she set out to watch the solar eclipse in the most beautiful of places canyoneering with some of her fellow ICU nurse friends. And while out in the wilderness, in a moment, everything changed for her. She tells her remarkable story, her rescue and how she was able to find the beauty in the moment, even when she was staring death in the face. Nichole is currently making a documentary film about her experience called http://belikewaterfilm.com/ ('Be Like Water') and all proceeds will go to search and rescue. Nichole also offers amazing wisdom and advice to us, her fellow nurses and how being a patient changed how she sees the way we do our work. Bring the tissues, this one is tear jerker. The key is learning how to define it for yourself so you don't get caught in the trap. The 5R Method we share tells you exactly how to do that!> Aaliyah and Timberlake's “Try Again” reminds us that it's not about getting it right on the first try, but it's about dusting yourself off and never giving up on the pursuit. > What's the 5R Method? From Buddhist monks to the early stages of psychology, attention has been deemed a vital element of success. In a world vying for our attention, if we can become masters of this attention, we can lead happier more present lives. Dr Joseph Cardillo is this week's guest. He is a martial artist, doctor and author of: 'Body Intelligence - Harness Your Body's Energies for Your Best Life', ‘The Five Seasons', ‘Your Playlist Can Change Your Life',  ‘Be Like Water', ‘Bow to Life' and the focus of today's show Can I Have Your Attention? How to Think Fast, Find Your Focus and Sharpen Your Concentration'. We explore some of the attention building exercises and processes outlined in his book and how we can reset our increasing attention deficit. We discuss how we can maximise our attention at work, in key moments where we are about to “lose our mind”. We discuss how we can give our children the tools for better sleep as well as ourselves. We touch on how we can be victims of unintentional bias. Finally, Joseph emphasises the merits of meditation and the myriad benefits it can give us. I am a fan of Ryan's work and I'm humbled to bring him on as a Positivity Effect guest. He's an overall great guy and his contributions to the world of music speak for themselves.     CLICK HERE for Ryan's band, Envy On The Coast CLICK HERE for Ryan's solo project, 1st Vows CLICK HERE for Ryan's Instagram On today’s episode we discuss: How/why Ryan gravitated towards music Reminiscing on early musical influences When Ryan realized music was the only path Reflections on Ryan’s musical journey and his thoughts on hard work Ryan on being open/organic to one’s journey and process through life Why we all need to be aware of how we treat people and the importance of always doing the right thing Sharing thoughts of gratitude on his musical support system How Ryan approaches the use of a “microphone” in 2017 Delving into the mind of a musician and the creative process The importance of showing up consistently The stepping stones of life’s validation Working out the patience/persistence/listening muscles A tough phase in his life and how he used music to push through How Ryan became the lead singer of Envy on the Coast Trials/Tribulations as a vocalist   And so much more… Ryan's nuggets of wisdom   “I remember realizing I was a sponge for it”   “whatever you see your self-doing, you can use that as drive to succeed, but understand that is just a stepping stone”   “like Bruce Lee says, Be Like Water”   “we’ve tried to put our money where our mouth is and affect change via action rather than preaching because preaching has become so easy for everybody and the use of that microphone has become often empty as far as what you see and what you hear”   “When I sit down to write something, it’s a very personal process, I don’t like having an agenda…ultimately I don’t want to be thinking at all when I’m making things”   “So much of what I’ve learned is just via listening and feeling, being that sponge”   Another episode of The Positivity Effect goes live in two weeks - Stay Tuned !!!
