Ranking update - Quick recap of San Diego win 97 -72 and probably would have scored 100 if the game was tighter. GU played so quickly, USD couldn't keep up either defensively or offensively and didn't get anything easy. Main event - Saturday night ESPN GAME DAY - when you have a personal connection to the university it's very special, and a very big deal. Fox couldn't help thinking about recruits...Meehan asked around and there weren't any around this time as it isn't the easiest time to get away for the students GU recruits. The environment, the Volker, all the selling points were highlighted and into people's homes that set the table for awesome college basketball. GU led and stopped Aiden Mahaney for 32 minutes of the game, which led to the victory. The early cushion GU built, along with the dominance of Timme & Watson it was easier to control the game across the board. All along, the team has known it takes more than Timme, and the GU line up has maneuvered and shifted to answer that call. One never knows who is going to step up to join Watson, Strawther and Timme...but someone always does.Senior night game is this week (Wed, March 1) and musing over the lineup that has the "Covid option" for some players to return. Anton Watson, Drew Timme...they are all 4 year seniors. The crowd isn't to be near the environment of St Mary's (against Chicago state) but the influence of these seniors needs to be appreciated. While there are so many candidates for the GU "Mount Rushmore" of players, Drew Timme is definitely a strong contender in the Mark Few era.Brief overview of Chicago State, onto the bracket seeds and prognostications on where teams are going to land, and WCC award category predictions.Player of the Year: Drew TimmeDefensive Player of the Year: Meehan likes how Anton Watson looks, but thinks it'll be Logan Johnson ....Fox picks Kyle Bowen.Coach of the Year: Randy Bennett at St Mary's. Fox makes case for Few, with how GU has consistently lost players to NBA and still makes it workNewcomer of the Year: Aiden Mahaney from St Marys or Brandon Podziemski from Santa Clara

This is a unique and unusual funeral nation. As you notice, my co host The Funeral Commander is not with us today. Jeff wanted to share difficult news: My oldest son Hunter 28 years old died today as a result of a brain aneurysm. He was a gentle spirit with the heart of a warrior. Hunter was born in Greenville NC where he played baseball and football from Little League to Middle School. Gifted with athleticism, good looks, and an affable personality, Hunter enjoyed his young life. Graduating from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham Virginia, Hunter achieved the rank of Captain, He started in both baseball and football. Hunter was awarded the class of 2010 Leadership Award. Soon after, Hunter enlisted in the Army, graduated from Infantry School at Ft. Benning Georgia and served his Country for 6 years. Hunter entered the plumbing field and was working the day of his aneurism. Hunter McCoy Harbeson is survived by his Wife, Nicole Harbeson of Norfolk Virginia; Father Jeffrey McCoy Harbeson and Wife Candice Gee Harbeson, of Phoenix AZ His Mother Jacqueline Hunter Harbeson of Roanoke VA, Brother Jackson McCoy Harbeson of Roanoke VA, stepbrother Logan Johnson and stepsister Khloe Johnson. Paternal Grandfather Everett McCoy Harbeson of Kill Devil Hills NC, Paternal Grandmother Brenda McMurry and Husband Jay, Maternal Grandmother Diana Watson and husband Buddy of Charlotte NC. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends will also miss Hunter’s happy go lucky demeanor. We are a small and close profession that serves families every day. When we lose a family member and sit as a client versus servant, our position doesn’t change our grief. Hunter’s unexpected loss is a reminder that each day is a gift. Love those close to you, laugh with those that matter, eat the great meal, enjoy the drink, and light the cigar...I would be grateful for the Funeral Nation and the funeral/cemetery community to keep our family in your thoughts as we remember a good man, my son Hunter Harbeson. Okay, lastly, I’d like to say screw all of you, I’d rather be home drinking my aged bourbon, but I’ve got to do it here instead. Here’s your hosts for tonight:- Madden - Netflix- Two Lane Roads- Wearing Shoes without SocksDo people buy the new model of their car every year? Trade in their 2017 Honda Civic for a cool $1,000 towards the 2018 one? No, cause that would be stupid. Car technology doesn’t advance that fast. You’re basically paying for the same car again. So why in the world do people do it for Madden? It’s not even fun. EA’s got the exclusive NFL license in perpetuity so they can’t be assed to make it better, and other developers can’t touch the NFL with a ten foot pole. So they make the same game every year, just add a roster update and maybe a slight physics tweak, and make a cool couple million. You want to make some REAL money? Bring back the arcade-y sports games like Street, Jam, and Blitz. They’re more accessible and way more fun to play. You can tell because of big head mode. Any game with Big Head Mode is automatically better.Look Netflix, you’re popular, I understand. But it’s not cause you’re the prettiest girl at the ball, or the hunky quarterback with a heart of gold. No, you’re the nerdy business school kid that deals Adderall. You got people hooked, and now you’re rich, congratulations. But guess what, you’re not bettering yourself. You keep dyeing your hair thinking it’ll make you cool, but no one cares. You keep changing your formula and pissing people off. But they need you. They keep coming back. So you don’t care. But you better start. Because your suppliers are getting wind of your attitude. And they seem to be cutting ties.Any method of transportation that requires you to merge into oncoming traffic to pass the person in front of you, is poorly thought out. Just because Old Man Jenkins wouldn’t sell off the 30 feet of his farm next to the road, I’ve got to play chicken and my odds aren’t great. Even then, two lanes each way is almost equally infuriating. It’s like walking down the sidewalk, and there’s a couple in front of you, walking slowly holding hands, taking up as much space as possible. They deserve a push into traffic, just like those cars deserve an action movie scene. The villain is driving a tank down the city street? Oh no! Oh, YES.Hey, if you’re wearing shoes, wear socks. It’s easy. Ya nasty. All this and more on this week’s episode. Including voicemails! Which movie won this month’s voting? And even more surprises! Welcome back to the Heads ‘N Tales Podcast.  In case this is your first time listening to the show, we are in the middle of our 4 part educational series on exertional heat stroke and preventing sudden death in sports with the team at the Korey Stringer Institute.  This series is different from most of our previous episodes where we interview athletes from all walks of life and hear their own personal tales of perseverance, so go back and check some of the other stories we feature on the show, I guarantee you will be left feeling inspired.  Episode 40 is part 3 of 4, so if you missed part one and two, I recommend that you go back and listen to Episode 38 and 39. In Episode 38 we not only learned about the history of the Korey Stringer Institute from KSI’s CEO, Dr. Douglas Casa, but we also learned the proper way to diagnose and treat the illness.  In addition we heard Gavin Class’ amazing comeback story after he flat lined in the hospital and received a liver transplant due to complications from his heat stroke. In Episode 39, we heard from KSI’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Rebecca Stearns.  Dr. Stearns taught us about the various educational resources KSI offers on multiple sports health & safety topics.  She also shared her own tale of perseverance when she got back to running marathons after suffering from a DVT and pulmonary embolism.  We also learn about the importance of hydration in preventing exertional heat stroke.  We finished episode 39 hearing from Hunter Knighton who currently plays offensive line for the Miami Hurricanes, but is also the survivor of exertional heat stroke.  He spent 12 days in a coma, lost 55 pounds and underwent surgery to repair paralyzed vocal chords. It took him close to 1.5 years to get back on the field. Make sure you take a listen to hear about his tremendous comeback that led to Hunter winning the Capital One Orange Bowl Courage Award after the 2015 season.  In Episode 40 we hear from Dr. Will Adams, Vice President of  Sports Safety and Yuri Hosokawa who is both the Director of Communication and the director of Education at the Korey Stringer Institute. Dr. Adams' responsibilities at KSI include helping state high school athletics associations adopt sport safety policies that meet evidence-based best practices. His clinical experience includes collegiate athletics, secondary school athletics, and mass medical events such as the Boston Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon and the infamous Falmouth Road Race. His research interests include thermoregulation, heat illness, hydration, maximizing sport performance, and the education of preventing sudden death in sport. His recent work has focused on timing considerations in the treatment of exertional heat stroke patients, the treatment, recovery, and return-to-activity from exertional heat stroke, and the effects of hydration and cooling on changes in body temperature during and after intense exercise in the heat. Dr. Adams received his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2009 and a master’s degree in Exercise Science at the University of Connecticut in 2012. Yuri Hosokawa serves as the Director of Communication and Education at the KSI. She coordinates the communication and public relation division of the KSI.  Without her tremendous efforts, these podcast episodes would not have been possible. THANKS YURI! Her research interests include prevention and education of sudden death in sport, establishing best practices in road race medicine, development of regional-specific heat guidelines and exploring the roles of genetics in the susceptibility of exertional heat strokes. She also serves as an athletic trainer for the Club Sports at the University of Connecticut. She continues to work internationally, serving as a science advisor for Sport Safety Japan, NPO.  In this episode, she talks about the difference in athletic training coverage at athletic events between the U.S. and Japan. Ms. Hosokawa received her bachelor’s degree in Sport Sciences from the Waseda University in 2011 and her master’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of Arkansas in 2013. Yuri and Dr. Adams dive deep into the historical statistics and trends in heat acclimatization policy and also some of the obstacles that they come across regionally throughout the united states when it comes to policy adoption. Yuri also tells the tale of a young athlete named Logan Johnson who survived heat stoke and worked with the KSI staff to get back to playing basketball.  The trend of highly motivated athletes pushing themselves to the limits comes up again in this story.  Next week in the 4th and final episode in this series we talk with Dr. Robert Huggins, Vice President of Research and Athlete Health & Safety at the KSI and an athlete who credits him with saving his life at the 2013 Falmouth Road Race.
