On August 4th, 2013, the season premiere of Club Soda 8: Tricoro became available. It starts off with the MB countdown mix, which recaps some of the wonderful songs that came out in 2012. Due to much feedback regarding the old format of putting in album covers for navigation, I've brought them back. While you're listening to each continuous episode, the album cover will change according to the song. I hope you enjoy this, and please spread the word!!! DJ Chef Nguyen returns to present "Club Soda 10: Pendual", celebrating 10 seasons of the numerous radio broadcasts and mixshow podcasts. To observe such success for the last 10 years, this episode features 1 selected track from each season and mixed in chronological order. However as a tradition that started in season 5, a recap of the previous season's hits (mixed or missed) is very much needed; a crossover of songs from 2015 - 2016. The theme of this season is "Time comes and goes", leading to the title Pendual. I will discuss more about the format of this title in the next episode. Here is your tracklist for episode 1 of Club Soda 10: Pendual. "2016 Countdown" by Masterbeat "It's My Life (Dave Aude Remix)" by No Doubt (from CS) "Let Me Think About It (Chef Nguyen's Edit)" by Ida Corr vs. Fedde le Grand (from CS2) "Who The Hell Are You (Illicit Remix)" by Madison Avenue (from CS3) "Happiness" by Alexis Jordan (from CS4) "When Love Takes Over" by David Guetta f./ Kelly Rowland (from CS5) "Love You Like A Stereo Love Song (Chef Nguyen's Edit)" by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina vs. Selena Gomez (from CS6) "Dark Side (Gustavo Scorpio Remix)" by Kelly Clarkson (from CS7: Resort Anthem) "Something Better (Alyson Calagna & Chef Nguyen Edit)" by Audien f./ Lady Antebellum (from CS8: Tricoro) "Rolling In the Deep (Rosario & Cappo House Mix)" by Aretha Franklin (missed in CS9: Spada) "I'm Every Woman / Respect (Eric Kupper Club Mix) by Aretha Franklin (from CS9: Spada) "Took The Night vs. Gonna Make You Sweat" by Chelley vs. C+C Music Factory (debut CS10)

Release Your Mind | Millennial House Music Classics v3

Party Favorz

Party Favorz is back with the third installment of the Millennial House Classics series.  “Release Your Mind” delves into the seriously straight house hits from the first ten years, which includes Agnes's global hit “Release Me” from the end of the first decade and signaled a shift in direction for house music, all the while propelling the career of dance production team Cahill. It's a coincidence that the first three songs on this set (“Sing,” “Most Precious Love 2006,” “Hypnotic, Erotic Games”) just happened to be purchased by your humble host at the exact same time.  In 2006, I remember purchasing these over-priced import CDs from Tower Records up on Piedmont Avenue here in Atlanta.  At the time, Tower was my best option for getting my grubby hands on the best house music I could only read about online.  My other two options were the independent mail order dance label out of the LA, Perfect Beat and bootleg copies of promo CDs from eBay. To put things in perspective as to how much our musical landscape has changed in the last eight years, Tower Records and Hastings were the last two dinosaurs of the mammoth music chains that had a stranglehold in this country.  Anyone remember Musicland or Goodies?  How about Best Buy carrying CDs?  I thought not. The first half of the millennium saw the wider acceptance of compressed music in the MP3 format and even the growing popularity of the MP3 portable player.  There was a massive growth in hi-speed internet (though nowhere near today's levels) and even though folks were still plugging away on their AOL 56k connections, file-sharing startups like Napster, WinMX, Bearshare, and Limewire put the entire industry in a tizzy.  These services precipitated the demise of the record store chains and put a massive dent in the recording industry as a whole, while they resisted any change in their business model. During that same time, Steve Jobs came to the rescue (with what should have been Sony's job in the Walkman category) and gave us the iPod and it's corresponding music service iTunes.  You also had legal startup dance music download services like Xpressbeats, DJdownload, Masterbeat, Beatport, Traxsource and JunoDownload during this same period.  It appeared, iTunes would trounce everybody but the last three have not only survived to this day but gone on to thrive as successful business' catering to a niche market that even the major labels are no longer overlooking. The UK's Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi have a strong presence in this series, but even they are shells of their former selves as the US-based Ultra Records has supplanted them in the independent dance category.  Expect them to broaden their wings more into mainstream rock and pop as time goes on.  The only name-drop I want to remind them of is “Casablanca” … enough said. In the same eight-year period, we have gone from professionally produced dance and pop music to computer created songs by folks as young as 12 years old on their Mac in the quiet space of their bedroom.  It's almost unfathomable how much technology and the internet has changed the music industry; especially dance music or as some have now coined it “EDM.”  It truly makes you wonder what the next eight years will bring. What I do know is that Apple has stopped manufacturing the iPod and MP3 players are nowhere to be found.  Thanks to the iPhone and Android devices, we can now carry our entire music collection in our pockets or we can store and stream that music from some imaginary place called "the cloud," get on the internet, text, talk, take pictures, order take out and hail a cab right from our own personal portable mini-computer. Thank you, Steve Jobs and Napster for taking the “Shackles” off … I just want to “praise you.” Album : Release Your Mind | Millennial House Classics v3 Genre : House Year : 2014 Total Time : 01:17:13 1. I wrote so many songs that year to help me get through so many things that were coming to me at the same time. Not all bad, not all good. Many great things and many big choices I had to make that would make a great impact on my heart. That heart is strong and I am human. I poured myself into my music and my lyrics and melodies and of course my dance music brothers and sisters and the result is one of my proudest mix journeys. Many # 1 dance songs came from channeling those energies and all of them are available on ITunes, Beatport and Amazon, etc. https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/event-unmixed-total-collection/id517447709 https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-event-2012-pt.-1/id520054031 https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-event-2012-pt.-2/id520053919 Take the time to download some of these songs to bring you back to the moment that you had during anyone of these songs. It's here - sorry it's been so long! I've been saving this one for a while... there are some new hits, a couple classics, and of course some new 2012 versions of some classics... it all comes together and ends with one of my all time favorite songs - "Come My Way." Like all of my podcasts, there is a message woven into the music - and this one is about love... I am ready, I feel it inside, I feel the crowd, I'm going to give you my all, I want to shout out loud. I'll leave you with this song - my heart is singing. Heartbreaks and promises. I'm tired of giving my love and getting nowhere. What I need is somebody who really cares. I really need a lover, a lover that wants to be there. I can't put my love on the line, if you want me, you've got show me love - words are so easy to say, you've got to show me love. I give more than I've got and that's the story of my life... Don't tell me what to do, don't tell me how to dress. It's been a long time, is it true that you've found another baby? When shit's going down, tell me, are you going to come save me? If the world was against me, tell me what would you do? Are you going to fight for me? 'Cuase baby I'd die for you. Fast. Time is ticking off so fast. The sand is running quick right through our hands. Beat, feel the rhythm in my heartbeat. Why don't you move your body to my body before we disappear? I want to dance like it was the last dance in my life. We're on a timebomb, We might not last long. Before the night's gone, let's just do it right now, come on. We've got a life to live, and I can't do it all alone. Somewhere in a private place, pack the bags for outer space, waiting for the right kind of pilot to come, to say to him - I would fly to the moon and back if you'll be, if you'll be my baby - I've got a ticket for a world where we belong, so would you be my baby? Oh great love - who took the morning stars above? One fine day, you're going to let it go my way. High way, low, I would go anywhere with you, high way, low way - won't you come my way? Why won't you come my way?

In an effort to get things back on track and wrap up on Thursday of this next week, I'm sending up v6 of the Pride Edition and what a whopper this one is!  I'm talking, about bodies movin', non-stop groovin', asses shakin', floors are breakin', queens are freakin', hoe's are creepin', divas flowin', everybody knows it's time to STAND UP and put your hands to the sky!  AHH HELL YEAH! Sorry, I just get a little carried away, but this mix of almost all brand-spanking new circuit beats gave me a hard-on that has lasted for days!  There IS some seriously deep, dark. progressive, tribalicious sh!t going on here.  Hopefully, I haven't cut the pending Summer Edition tracklist to bring you these fresh new cuts for your Pride consumption.  Then again, you know me, K j A M always delivers the goods, so I'm confident I'll be able to work that out when the time comes. Kicking things off is the oft-time flaky hysterics of Sir Ivan.  After last fall's Kumbaya, I thought this guy's shtick had pretty much bottomed out and I was pretty hesitant to even listen to his latest Hare Krishna.  I'm glad I did because Tony really hit it with his production and delivers the goods like he hasn't done in some time.  I guess it just goes to show that money can buy you fame, even if it's for 15 minutes or so. This is followed by some heavy hitters like Tim Letteer's Broke Free and Gustavo Scorpio's private mix of Kelis' Acapella.  Keep an eye out for Gustavo, because his mixes that he's been floating around the net, just keep getting better and better.  Another one to look out for is the San Francisco hottie, Jamie J. Sanchez.  No doubt, he's been working hard to tighten up his productions.  After this spring's take on Nasty Boy by Jipsta, along with his own Lift Me Up featuring Ria Spencer and his amazing re-work of Heaven by John LePage and Debby Holiday, Jamie is bound and determined to make an even bigger name for himself.  Keep this up and I see superstar DJ in his future.  Another song I've been getting sweaty balls over is Zayra's V.I.P.  Some of you may remember her turn on on the reality program Rockstar Supernova.  Well, she's back and readying an album entitled Baby Likes to Bang for a late August release.  This first single is simply delicious as it takes a swipe at the Hilton's and the rest of their Martha's Vineyard ilk.  With DJ Paulo doing the remix honors, expect to be hearing this song all over the place this summer; especially with Dave Aude and Mike Rizzo on board for additional remix honors. Max Sanna and Steve Pitron deliver a deeper and more progressive take on Kelly Rowland's Commander, while Ronnie Maze teams up with the in-demand Corey Andrew for the tearjerker Again.  I left out the spoken word portion of the song since we don't need any of you balling like a sissy during your workout while thinking about the one that got away. Having previously overlooked the Chus and Ceballos re-work of Not Myself Tonight, I gave it a second chance and for good reason.  This IS the best mix of this song to date.  No offense to Jody, whose work continues to astound me, but these masters of tribal took the song in a completely different direction that works on so many levels, I had to give them props. Offer Nissim showcases a much-needed change in direction, and it works!  Teaming up with Nikka, The One & Only is a terrific slice of what's sure to come from this Israeli mixmaster. Filipe Guerra and Lorena Simpson deliver their latest Breathe Again, with Tommy Love doing the remix honors.  I listened over and over to the bevy of remixes that accompanied this #1 Masterbeat tune, and Tommy really delivers the bang for the buck.  As much as possible, I've been shying away from typical circuit styled productions that sound like the DJ slapped an acapella over the same tribal beats they used for their last ten mixes.  While I won't mention any names, gentlemen it's time to step up your game.  You can't keep riding the same beat over and over....

The sun is out and yesterday's snow is melting away. I got up early and headed out to Waffle House (they've got the best coffee in the world, hands down) and was driving down Cheshire Bridge Road admiring all the beauty that had accumulated all around me. It was fun to watch it all melt right off the powerlines with ice falling everywhere. Sadly, Rick left work early yesterday and it took him over three hours to get home. Consequently, he was in a pissy mood once he got here and wasn't up for making a snowman. Maybe next time. Yesterday, I was moving into a discussion about Valentines Day. Now I'm sorry, this is nothing more than another corporate bullshit holiday, designed to part consumers with their money. Now, if you're honey is all tweaked because you didn't get them anything, then they really don't love you. Frankly, love and appreciation should be given to those you care most about all year long. You don't need any specific day where society dictates how you should show your appreciation for another. For me, sometimes I would show up with flowers for no reason; sometimes I would make reservations at a nice restaurant and spring it on Rick, even though there was no occasion to celebrate; sometimes I would pick him up a nice shirt or shoes when I was at the mall, not because he needed them, but because I thought he would like them; while other times I'll give it up even when I wasn't in the mood [grin]. Rick is also a voracious reader and once the dust settles on the competing technologies, I plan on springing an e-reader on him later this year for no other reason than I want to. No need to worry, he doesn't read my blog. Nevertheless, this day of love has been so ingrained into our brains since childhood (remember the stupid VD cards you used to buy a box of and give them out to your teachers, friends and that someone special who put a twinkle in your eye), that it's hard to ignore. So in keeping with that tradition, I created the perfect cover art for all those who have been affected by cupid's arrow. Yes, I am a marketing genius and know full well, how to play the game. In fact, I think the Winter Edition would be a perfect gift for the one you love. [grin] Now that I've probably sapped all the love in your heart(s), let me inject some passion back into you. This second set picks up where the first left off. In fact, I originally made it as one long set when I didn't think there would be enough for two. A couple brand spanking new tunes came in this week that was so worthwhile, I extended the mix and then broke it into two pieces. Using the synth line from Olive's classic “You're Not Alone,” Major Laser and Nina Sky's “Keep It Goin Louder” has been on heavy rotation in my brain for several weeks now. The Superchumbo mix kicks it up several notches making it peak-time ready for those late night floors. Kim Sozzi is back with the ultra-hot “Secret Love,” which also has an amazing Wendel Kos mix that will make its debut on the next BPM Edition. PFF (Party Favorz Favorite) Inaya Day is back with the smoking “All I'm Sayin'” that delivers some hard-hitting progressive beats while pulling a positive vibe. Equally, Georgia Brown's “Love 4 Real” is as solid as they come with DJ Fist really working this one out. Currently, these two songs are in Masterbeat's Top two must have list. Probably the biggest (and I mean BIGGEST) song here is Kristine W's “The Power of Music.” With her trademark power vocals and Tony Moran's massive production, you can expect to be hearing this song in all of its incarnations throughout the spring. With remixes by Tony, Groove Police, Wideboys, Joe Gauthreaux and more, there's something here for everyone. Looks like she's well on her way to another #1 off of her amazing album by the same title. Check out the ultra HOT video below. It's turned out to be a gorgeous day here in the ATL, but I'm not going to be able to experience it. I've signed on for a couple more projects,

2009 was the year that online dance music retailers really solidified and grabbed their slice of the ever-growing music market.  As online legal distribution for dance music begins to really take off, there are now a plethora of these sites vying for a piece of the pie.  No one has been more successful at putting out quality house music that you won't find in your local record store than Beatport, Traxsource, and Juno.  Oh wait, I forgot, there is no such thing as a local record store, so let's just say iTunes or Amazon.  With literally thousands of dance labels around the globe, these three companies do a great job of not only promoting the music you might not otherwise hear (or maybe you danced to it at your local club but didn't know where to get it), but breaking them down into specific genres so the individual can hone in on their specific taste.  For me, I go straight to the "house" category in Beatport, "soulful" in Traxsource and the "funky" category in Juno.  That's where I know I'll find some gem that's not being heard anywhere around here and is something I can share with you guys in my podcasts. Of course, with everyone trying to grab their share in a crowded and quite frankly limited field, we also witnessed the demise of XpressBeats and the merger of Juno and DJdownload (though, I'm not really certain what purpose that served).  I'm guessing there will be a couple more casualties this year.  Even though I won't go into speculation, I have a pretty good idea who's on their last legs as I write this.  Ultimately, the success of these online dance music retailers relies on three key factors: 1) Identifying the niche that's currently being under served by major distributors and filling it with the content that consumers are begging for 2) Layout and design that's easy to navigate  3) Speed, speed, speed!!!  People don't want to spend forever and a year looking for something.  Your search must be fast and intuitive in case of misspelled words.  If I had to add one final suggestion, that would be 2-minute previews as opposed to the 30 seconds you get from the majors.  Frankly, the only service that has mastered all of the above is Beatport.  Juno has definite layout and speed issues that rely too much on your systems cache, which causes frequent inoperability with their player.  Traxsource is pretty fast, but the layout is not particularly great nor do they do a good job of breaking up the genres for your specific interest. The one online service I really and I mean REALLY want to see succeed is Masterbeat.  Only two years old, they are the ONLY online distributor that has managed to negotiate with the big labels to sell Beyonce, Rihanna or Madonna and other big-name artists with dance remixes.  The problem they're having at the moment is that those very same labels are pretty much dictating how they run their business and have forced them to add additional servers to accommodate their entire music catalog.  As you can probably realize, that not only costs money but detracts from the original purpose of the site, which is to target more mainstream dance music along with popular underground house.  As a result, the front page is confusing at best with a top ten chart that's pretty much irrelevant.  I think a good redesign of the layout would go a long way to help fans sign up for what they want and target the consumer's specific interest.  It's doable, but once again there's that pesky money investment factor.  Hopefully, Brett will be able to work this all out in the near future.  Frankly, if the labels would stop using the remixes as a loss-lead by floating all this stuff out on the internet, they might actually be able to make some money; I digress, what the hell do I know? In some cases, you can go to iTunes for specific dance mixes by an artist, but then they want to sell you videos, books and soon concert tickets, perfumes and clothing lines by that artist, not to mention the results have everything they eve...

T.G.I.T.!!! It's Thursday and for many of you the end of your work week. As we gear up for the extended holiday break, I wanted to ensure that you had all of your party favorz prior to hitting the road for your final destination to whatever event you're attending. In keeping with the first two mixes, I'm serving up some serious circuit havoc. While there are several notable songs in this set, I wanted to take a moment and point out two of them. First, our very own Mikey Cee from down under turns in what I guess is his very first mix with Larry T & Princess Superstar's "Licky." Frankly, I received this on promo several months ago and took a pass on it, only because I wasn't feeling the electro mixes that accompanied it. I have to say that Mikey has hit a home run his first time out. Basically, he's turned this "where's the hook" mess into a ball of thumping fun suitable for any dancefloor. In fact, I bumped Beyonce for his mix, so that should say a lot. Make sure you go over to his Facebook fan page and give him a pat on the back for a job well done. Hopefully, this is a sign of bigger things for to come. The other song I wanted to point out is the brand spanking new Ron Perkov tune "Miss You." Personally, I think he and Tony have really turned this one out. In fact, the entire release is just amazing! Not only do you get the ultra hot Moran and Rigg remix, but remixes by Manny Lehman, Mike Rizzo, Twisted Dee and DeMarko! With a line up like that, it's hard to miss. Currently "Miss You" is available exclusively through Masterbeat. That's pretty much all I have for everyone. Remember, I've got my surgery next Tuesday and this site will have some down time before posting picks up again, at least for mixes. As promised, I'll get out the 2003 Chrome Edition and most likely the next BPM Edition sometime during the month. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and I'll catch everyone in a few. Originally, I thought I was going to get some exclusives from DJ Bill Bennett for you guys, but that didn't quite pan out.  We had been exchanging email messages and he assured me that I could use "Manhunt" and "Forever Young" in my Summer Edition, with pre-conditions that I didn't mind abiding by.  Many of you may not know that he supplements his income as a nurse.  Let's face it, bills have to be paid and that's how he does it when he's not in the studio or on the road.  Anyway, I know he's been really busy lately, so I didn't want to keep forcing the issue for fear of getting on his bad side, much-less being a pain in the ass.  He did send me his "Expelled From Catholic School Mix" for "Forever Young" and it's a surefire winner.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work with any of the three sets so I decided to put that off until my next BPM.  The good news is that he has a double release scheduled for both songs on July 27th exclusively at Masterbeat.  I expect these much-anticipated songs to do extremely well in the clubs, on the charts, and at dance radio.  Already with two massive hits from his "Big Muscle of the Rhythm" album, last year's summer anthem "Fame" and the Big Pig classic (one of my all-time favorites) "Breakaway" these two bombs should put his Big Muscle Tour back on the road for quite some time. Meanwhile, I thought I'd go ahead and start rolling out these mixes so as to have them out for the BIG San Diego Pride events coming this weekend.  Our good friend John Longo from Circuit Cadence has caused quite a stir with his remarks over Peter Rauhofer's track record for attending these types of events.  So this should prove to be an interesting weekend ahead and I've got Twitter on full alert.  You can follow the thread here. As for this mix, this is probably about as commercial as it's going to get.  Each subsequent mix after this gets a bit more progressive, tribal, darker and heavier with a few bright spots thrown in here and there to keep the vibe alive.  I'm pretty much booked solid the rest of the week, so I won't be providing any further commentary.  Instead, I'll just let each set speak for itself and hopefully, you guys can fill in my silence with your own comments, good or bad.  Hey, I'm a big boy and haven't even come close to earning "diva" status yet, so I try to learn from other people's critiques. Enough blabbing.on to the music! Keeping up with the theme of take 1, this mix remains on the more commercial funky side of the T-Dance series.  The first three songs are a bit tougher and could have easily fit in with the BPM mixes.  Sometimes, I don't know why I move certain songs to the T-Dance folder as opposed to the BPM folder, but I suppose there must be a method to my madness.  Regardless, Musiq Soulchild and Mary J. Blige are currently riding high with the very hot "IfULeave".  This former #1 on Masterbeat's club charts is just now making its move up the Billboard charts and I expect will ultimately land the top spot sometime this summer.  Ono's "I'm Not Getting Enough" is an unlikely candidate for this mix, but I have to say, Eddie Amador took this song in a completely different direction than the rest of the mixes.  While he retains the overall darkness of the original, the pumps in this groovy house vibe throughout thus qualifying the song to be included.  On the campier side, Natalie Powers delivers a reliable interpretation of Laura Branigan's "Shattered Glass" and the Klubkidz with Sam Solace equally turn in a reliable rendition of "It's My Time" originally performed by the Jade Ewen, winner of the 2009 Eurovision contest.  If it sounds like a Broadway show tune, that's because it was written by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Diana Warren.  The funny thing is, I can't help but think of Diana Ross' "It's My Turn"every time I hear it.  I don't know, you be the judge. Moving along, Stephane and 3G deliver a serious booty shaker with "We Don't Wanna Put In."  Mood Velvet and Janet Gray tackle a remake of the Hot Chocolate classic "Every 1's a Winner" set to what sounds like the original mix for Faith Evans "Mesmerized" by Freemasons.  Nevertheless, it works quite well and since it's been long enough, I don't think most people will even notice.  Finally, one of the hot songs of the moment is by Wynonna (of Judd's fame).  Taking a page from Leann Rimes handbook, she took the song "Sing" and had a plethora of producers come in and remix it for the dancefloor.  Almighty takes the cake for this mix, though expect Jody's version to show up on the Gay Days edition in a couple of weeks. That about does it for today. Tomorrow, we'll be moving towards the pure house I had promised.  I've already listened to take 3 several times while running errands and I am quite pleased.  I'm certain the diehards amongst you will be as well.  I'll be back tomorrow with the next set.  Until then, enjoy! Ouch!  Yet another aspect of L-O-V-E.  If you've never experienced this, then you haven't been in love.  If you say you're in love and have never experienced this, you're lying.  Trust me, I know.  I've only been through that once and swore never again.  Now, I'm back in it again, but we've been going strong for almost nine years now.  Geez, maybe it's time to trade in for a new model . . . just kidding.  I like my 2001 Honda. "Where've you been? Who've you seen? You didn't phone when you said you would! Do you lie? Do you try To keep in touch? You know you could I've tried to see your point of view But could not hear or see For jealousy I never knew 'til I met you" I'm running late today, so I'll let my ratings speak for themselves.  Tomorrow, I've got a lot on my plate and I still need to get the final mix out.  It's finished, but I haven't edited it down yet nor added the splits for you cue people.  Mainly the post itself can take forever trying to get the links from Masterbeat whose service is painfully slow.  I guess part of the deal to sell the major label artist mixes is that you have to sell everything in their frigging catalog and it's pretty much bogged down their system.  Oh well, tomorrow will be the last of a predominant Masterbeat mix until the Spring Edition which is some weeks off.  Hopefully, by that time, they will have upgraded their servers.  Anyway, I'll be back tomorrow with the final installment, until then.Enjoy!
