This week's episode dives deep into real-life stories filled with confusion, doubts, and scandals that could possibly bring these relationships to an end. Podcast Overview: Alan T discusses his childhood, the 80s & the evolution of Space Miami Who Is Alan T: For 20+ years now, Alan Tibaldeo, better known as Alan T, has worked the crowd at the NE 11th Street club, first overseeing the VIP section and, more recently, as the lead doorman. He's hard to miss, invariably dressed in vibrant garb, wielding a megaphone and the pizzazz of showman who isn't there merely to scan your ticket. He keeps it fluid, enthralling impatient ravers with endless stories from his career. Whether you're entering or exiting, a chat with Tibaldeo can make you forget you came to Space to dance. Tibaldeo has been an architect, visual artist, and larger-than-life cultural icon. (And in 1996, he lent his persona and his vocal to a dance-music anthem, "The Door.") Baby fever is spreading fast this holiday season, at least on the For You page. In between more standard present requests, like Chelsea boots or AirPods, TikTokers are asking their partners for babies for the holidays. The videos often present themselves as innocuous wish lists, where images of sweatpants or purses are interspersed with quick shots of, well, babies, almost like subliminal messaging. Though the TikToks aren't intended to be serious, the hashtag #babyfever is nearing a billion views on TikTok, suggesting the trend goes beyond the joke. Kirby Long's TikTok of her own baby-centric wishlist went viral after she posted it back in September. "My husband thought it was hilarious," the 22-year-old tells Bustle. "I got a very mixed reaction from my audience though," she says of her 99,000 followers. "Some people thought it was funny while others thought I was being pushy." Other TikTok formats also lend themselves to expressions of baby fever. A video of @crystal.irish's baby having her cheeks squished amassed over 10 million views on TikTok since it was uploaded in March. In the recent comments, one viewer says, "I can't wait until I can have my own!" Another writes, "She's so cute, I want one!" Hundreds more comments make reference to their users' scorching ovaries. If you've ever seen a cute baby and immediately felt your ovaries explode, there's a biological mechanism at play, though not the one you're expecting. Baby fever isn't an indication that your biological clock (which is not real) is sounding an alarm that you must have babies, stat; it's a psychological reaction with fleeting effects. Marian Rissenberg, Ph.D., a neuropsychologist, tells Bustle that baby fever is a "hormonally driven biological imperative." While it's common, it "is certainly not rational," meaning it doesn't indicate one's readiness for or interest in parenting. A series of reactions in the brain — the release of the hormone oxytocin, a change in blood chemistry, and other potential subconscious thought associations — set off that baby fever feeling, in women more commonly than men. Neuropsychologist Dr. Sanam Hafeez, Psy.D., adds that this reaction can be triggered from simply looking at a picture of a baby or watching a TikTok, rather than seeing a baby IRL. Oxytocin, nicknamed the "love hormone," is linked with maternal behaviors and emotional bonding, so when it's pumping through your system, you might feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. Why is baby fever trending now, though? Hafeez says that the holiday season is "prime baby making time," referencing a study published in the Journal Obstetrics and Gynecology that suggested couples have better luck conceiving in the winter. She adds that the appeal of "creating new life" in a year when people are looking for "renewed hope" is perfectly logical. "Babies give pure love, pure joy which most are searching for, especially in this time," Irish, the TikToker with the viral baby video, tells Bustle, adding that she thinks #babyfever is "spiking" right now due to an increased focus on home life. If the fact that you can't escape baby fever content is confusing you about your family-starting timeline, know that it doesn't mean your biological clock is running out of ticks. Your brain is just doing what it's programmed to do: go ga ga over cute things. TITA, ALAN T. N. MD, MPH; HOLLIER, LISA M. MD, MPH; WALLER, D. There are some problems for which it’s very hard to find the answer, but very easy to check the answer if someone gives it to you. At least, we think there are such problems; whether or not they really exist is the famous P vs NP problem, and actually proving it will win you a million dollars. This kind of question falls under the rubric of “computational complexity theory,” which formalizes how hard it is to computationally attack a well-posed problem. Scott Aaronson is one of the world’s leading thinkers in computational complexity, especially the wrinkles that enter once we consider quantum computers as well as classical ones. We talk about how we quantify complexity, and how that relates to ideas as disparate as creativity, knowledge vs. proof, and what all this has to do with black holes and quantum gravity.Support Mindscape on Patreon.Scott Aaronson received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently the David J. Bruton Jr. Centennial Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin, and director of the Quantum Information Center there. He specializes in quantum computing and computational complexity theory, but has written on topics from free will to the nature of consciousness. Among his awards are the Tomassoni-Chisesi Prize in Physics (Italy) and the Alan T. Waterman Award from the National Science Foundation. In times of crisis, it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and surrounded by fear. Music is a tool to help us face that fear.My Memorial Day weekend podcast is always my favorite of the year — there’s something about that feeling of an endless summer just on the horizon that fills me with hope. Of course, this year is different. I’m sad not to be surrounded by LGBTQ revelers in Pensacola, Florida; it’s my favorite place to be over this holiday weekend and it’s where I was scheduled to DJ again this year. Instead, I hope to see many of you there again in 2021.In the meantime, please enjoy my latest. It’s a long one — in fact, it’s my longest podcast yet — I typically try to keep 'em under 90 minutes, but this time I just couldn’t; there was too much music I wanted to include. And moreover, this one was a journey; an emotional outpouring of uplifting energy. You may sense a theme if you go along for the whole ride. It also includes my new 25th-anniversary remix with Stephen Jusko of Alanis Morissette’s iconic anthem, “You Oughta Know.”Yet again, this DJ has no upcoming gigs and a lot less money coming in. If you appreciate and feel inspired by my podcast, feel free to Venmo me a tip: @DJBlacklowI hope you're all staying safe and sound, wherever in the world you may be listening. The Easter Beagle has arrived and is delivering a basket full of circuit and anthems with a smattering of t-dance funky house delights to lighten the load. This set is packed with the biggest circuit tribal house tracks that will energize your at home workouts with massive favorites like "Kings & Queens" by Ava Max — a song so good that I included two remixes by Jack Chang and Danny Verde. Guy Scheiman teams up with the immortal Alan T and delivers the sizzling, timely, and camp track #Stay the Fuk Home. The song is so deliberate that you just want to break the quarantine and mix it up on the floor. Tonight's quarantine is to continue in the following fashion. And it goes like this: you, you to the right, YOU to the left Can you move? CDC, please assist me in rounding up the infected. Not you, perhaps you, and NEVER you. We're liking what's appearing over here in this corner with the face masks and hazmat suits — social distancing is always welcome -Alan T We've got a new remix of Lady Gaga's fabulous "Stupid Love" by Jack Chang, and Dirty Disco turn Ladi Rosa's "I Ain't No Taylor Swift" into t dubalicious one-liner. 80's teen Diva, Debbie Gibson drops her fist in ages "Girls Night Out," which is a fun playful track but it's the Tracy Young Disco remix that makes the song shine. Speaking of Disco, Alex Newell has a smoking hot track that just dropped called "Boy, You Can Keep It." This is one of my current favs but instead of delivering the amazing disco rework by Tracy Young — I used the darker Chus & Ceballos remix, which delivers sexually ambiguous vocals (a technique made famous by Zhu years ago) so much so that you'd never recognize it. The song hasn't even charted yet, so Tracy's uplifting version will appear in a future Dance Club set. Another personal favorite, is Halsey's "You Should Be Sad," which in the hands of Yinon Yahel (who makes several appearances here) is a slice of circuit heaven if not for the fact that it's too short but I'll take it. Kristine W makes two appearances in this set. The first is a DJ Paulo & Soriano 2020 update of her classic "Feel What You Want," which is by far one of the best remixes of this track I've ever heard. The other is her latest, which is an unlikely cover of the Heart classic rock track "Barracuda." Kristine definitely has the muscular vocals to take on Ann Wilson and I applaud her choice in this selection but as someone who is a massive fan of the Wilson sisters, it's difficult for me to separate the two. Still, the song comes with a bevy of remixes with Dinaire + Bissen delivering the most commercial version. For this set, I went with Tony Moran's remix. Don't be surprised when some other DJ remixes the original in the next six months, which would be interesting. Once again, the boys from Houston (Dirty Disco) deliver another stellar yet unexpected remix of an old school gay icon — Miss Patsy Cline. Remixing "Walking After Midnight" by this country crooner who has a massive gay following must have been a challenge but the end result paid off BIG TIME. They also turn in another delectable remix of Dua Lipa's latest "Break My Heart." Finally, one of Party Favorz all-time favorite DIVAS, Miss Diana Ross has racked up yet another #1 on the Billboard's Dance Club chart for "Love Hangover," which peaked on the Disco charts back in 1976 and appears here with Ralphi Rosario doing the remix honors. One of the things I noticed about this week's chart is that it barely changed, if at all. I'm also seeing a lot of classic tracks and/or modern-day reworks of the originals in my DJ services — meaning, fewer new releases. While it's too soon to see how this all plays out — never fear because you know Party Favorz always has an ace up my sleeve to keep the party going. From my patio, it's a beautiful day outside but we're expecting a major storm with possible flooding and tornadoes later this afternoon. If you're in the southern part of the United States,
The Easter Beagle has arrived and is delivering a basket full of circuit and anthems with a smattering of t-dance funky house delights to lighten the load. Author Alan Black was raised and grew up in the United Methodist Church. While he proudly embraces his background and personal history within the United Methodist Church, he feels that ultimately what is important is not the denomination that you are a part of, what matters most is the relationship that you have with the Lord. Part and parcel to any relationship is the level of commitment that one makes to it. With any and all relationships they are going to take time to grow. He describes his relationship with the Lord using one word, “transformation.” Continuing to grow daily in his walk with the Lord, and as well continuing to display the fruits of his Spirit daily is for him what life is all about. Book Synopsis In The Spirit Intended the second book released by Alan T.Black is a continuation of his journey and purpose to be obedient to what God is calling him to do. It is a collection of 35 essays written as a way and means to inspire and encourage others as they go about the process of their daily walk with the Lord. Each essay is written as a reflection of the Lords’ presence and impact in our lives and is a refreshing alternative to the usual daily devotional ensemble. With intriguing titles such as “Footprints In The Sand “Metamorphosis” and “The Three Little Pigs” the reader will be lead to pause think and reflect on what each essay means to them and how the Lord may be calling them to answer their call In the Spirit Intended. In 1985, just after high school graduation, Alan T. Brown received a phone call that no one wants to get. One of his best friends, Danny, was paralyzed from the waist down after breaking his back in a terrible car accident. Danny was just 18-years-old. Little did Alan know he would find himself in a similar predicament a few years later while on vacation with friends in the Caribbean. In the blink of an eye, Alan went from being a healthy young man who loved playing sports to lying on his back unable to move. On today’s show, Alan talks about the accident that completely changed his life, and how he turned a personal tragedy into a triumph. If you've been around Miami's club scene, you know Alan T. He's flashy, loud, aggressive, charming, and funny all at the same time. He has to be. He deals with throngs of people trying to get into some of the city's brightest hot spots. He has to hear, "But I know so-and-so, and he told me I was on the list!" about a hundred times every night. So you can't blame him for being curt with patrons. However, unlike the French doormen that litter Miami Beach's nightclubs, Alan T puts on a show, sometimes with a loudspeaker to amplify the insults he throws at people. Currently, he works for Space on Saturdays, but he's been around, working the doors for spots such as Pawn Shop Lounge and Nocturnal. In addition to being a doorman, Alan T. is also a house-music vocalist (he has the Discogs page to prove it) and holds a master's in Architecture from Columbia University. He's a nightlife renaissance man. Still, Alan T's most exceptional talent is making the door at Space more interesting. You will love this episode because we will strip off Alan's mask and we got real and had a sweet, loving, friendly conversation as if we just picked up the phone and just chatted. Gather 'round Campers! In this episode we share a listener-submitted story from Alan, who grew up in North jersey with his friend Ed. Alan was nice enough to compile these true events, with some help from Ed, into this captivating story! Some things are only known to others through the stories that are told over the years. This is one of those things but only now is the story being told. A hazy memory of a summer night that chilled us to bone we dare not repeat. Our youth wrought an indestructible feeling within us but fear of something we didn’t understand had made us humble. The sacred land of our youth was filled with mystery after we thought it all boring and predictable. There are things that live in the space between the dust of the ground and the living above that should never be disturbed..... Alan T. Yardley, PA 7/9/2018

It’s been a beat since my last podcast – I headed back to a full-time job this past fall and most of my free time has been focused on production work and live gigs, so I’ve let my podcast output suffer a bit. But I’m excited to start 2018 off right with a new high-energy installment of my #PugLife series. I decided to bookend this podcast with P!nk, because, well, I’m obsessed. The opener is a mashup I made and have been using in my recent live sets of Block & Crown and Luca Debonaire’s new track (two of my favorite producers right now!), “Discoteca,” with “What About Us”... and the I close the Podcast with my new remix of “Beautiful Trauma.” (head to my Soundcloud for a free download!) https://soundcloud.com/djblacklow/pnk-beautiful-trauma-dj-blacklow-remix I’m already at work on “House Is a Feeling (Vol. 4)” and “Tech-nically Speaking (Vol. 3)”… so look for those soon! Welcome back to another Universal Rhythm Session. This week we welcome...ADAM FREEMER. DJ. Producer. Sound Engineer. Not many can claim to be truly successful on "both sides of the mixer", but besides being a world renown dj and producer, Adam has worked on and engineered some of the world's finest nightclub sound systems. His skills are often requested in the studio by other producers wanting to tap into his 15+ years of music production and Pro Tools experience. Adam's maintained consistent support from some of dance music's heaviest hitters such as Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed & Victor Calderone to name just a few. After filling in for Danny Tenaglia at his now infamous “Be Yourself” party at Vinyl, New York and playing at New York staple clubs such as Twilo, Limelight and Sound Factory over 10 years ago, Adam has gone on to tour the world several times over as a dj. With a production career that now spans two decades, Adam's first major release, H2O, was released on TWISTED records back in 2002. H2O featured house legend Alan T. providing the vocal snippet to this club stomping first effort which received support from some of dance music's biggest names of the time such as Anthony Pappa, DJ Vibe, and Tom “Superchumbo” Stephan. Adam has since gone on to release many chart topping singles including Underground Baby! which achieved top 5 download status on Beatport. On the remix front, with multiple Billboard charted remixes under his belt including two #1 Billboard remixes of the legendary Yoko Ono and a long list of remixes by respected names such as DJ Chus, Cevin Fisher, D-Formation and Mistress Barbara, Adam has solidified his standing as a respected dance music producer and re-mixer. In 2008 Adam started his own label, Mecha Recordings and besides releasing his own work, the label has released remixes and singles from artists such as Lance DeSardi, D-Formation, DJ Simi and D-Unity.Across North America, from Stereo, Montreal, Ruby Skye, San Francisco and staple clubs in New York, Miami and his home town of Philadelphia, Adam has been touring as a dj for over 10 years. On a global level, the list is even longer from all over South America to Europe and throughout Asia where he recently visited Womb, Tokyo. Adam continues to evolve as a dj incorporating new sounds into his sets which have their roots in techno, house and soulful deep grooves. With a full-length remix album about to released this Summer on TWISTED and many other remix and original projects in progress, Adam's touring schedule is about to become busier then ever.As a sound engineer, Adam's knowledge spans from engineering tracks in the studio to engineering top notch nightclub audio systems. In recent years Adam's been designing and engineering sound systems around the world and has helped create a resurgence in nightlife in his home town of Philadelphia by bringing quality nightclub audio to the city as never before. He's currently working on his own nightclub project which will take prominence as the premier nightclub & sound system in Philadelphia and also be one of the best nightclub sound systems in North America. 01. Glitter - Night Foal (Original Mix) 02.
