Can you believe it's already the second Friday of Welsh Wine Week? It's amazing how quickly time passes, especially when you're having so much fun talking to the key players in the Welsh Wine Scene.   This adventure continues today with Andy Mounsey from Velfrey Vineyard. This ‘Accidental' Vineyard is something of a Goldilocks place for growing vines. Andy shares the story of how The Mounsey's initial plans were rather different, but a visit from an MW finally convinced them.   We then learn about the varieties planted, some of their vineyard techniques, and the wonderful wines they produce. This is another great 20 minutes with one of Wales's best producers. Give it a listen.   @welshwineweek @welshvineyardassociation @velfreyvineyard #WelshWineWeek #Welshwine #podcast #wine #winecast @fergelias @wineman147

In this week's episode of Menopause Conversations I am speaking to Doris Mounsey about her health journey and how that led her to experience medically induced menopause. I often speak about natural menopause but when you have medical conditions or treatments that result in you being in menopause prematurely things can be very different. Women in this situation often experience sudden and severe symptoms as the body has to quickly adjust to the dramatic loss of hormones. This was Doris's experience and she was left feeling lost and alone as the Drs didn't really have any solutions for her. Have a listen to the story that Doris has to share, of how she found a way to manage her symptoms naturally and now helps other women who are on a similar journey to what Doris has been on. In this episode, Prof Chris Mounsey (University of Winchester) takes us on a wild ride: from meeting French philosophers as an undergrad, to the other day when construction workers gave him admiring verbal feedback for his (awesome) tattoos. And guess what, both of these encounters have to do with queerness and disability, or variability – the term Chris prefers. We talk about everything from passing as able-bodied or straight to why sexually explicit novels are so important. Although in the episode, I was rudely unable to remember his name, we also talk about Ryan O'Connell and his Netflix series Special. Chris then shares some important insights on the ‘curative narrative' and provides some steamy book recommendations. Why not check out Chris's very own music at https://bearfffbear.bandcamp.com/ and follow me on Instagram and Twitter (@Lena_Mattheis).Questions you should be able to respond to after listening:1. At one point, Chris says that “variability enshrines uniqueness”. What does this mean? What is variability?2. What are the three elements that Chris uses to describe variability?3. What does Chris dislike about the term ‘disability'? What does that have to do with binary thinking?4. How do queerness and variability intersect in Chris' thinking?5. What is the role of literature in studying queerness and variability?

As an award winning jazz vocalist and founding member of The Manhattan Transfer, Erin Dickins has enjoyed career singers dream about. After five years singing ensemble music with The Manhattan Transfer, she emerged as one of the top studio singers in New York. Dickins toured and recorded with many notable artists including Leonard Cohen, Bette Midler, James Taylor, The Talking Heads, James Brown, Jaco Pastorius and Ashford & Simpson, to name but a few.   Erin Dickins Dickins recently completed work on a new album, Vignettes, slated for release in 2017. This first self-produced project is a compilation of one-on-one collaborations with an array of world-class musicians; many who have been close friends for many years. Eclectic and personal, Vignettes is a true representation of Dickins creativity. It captures her love of many musical genres and shows the true range of her vocal artistry. Among her collaborators are David Friedman (vibes), Elliott Randall (Steely Dan guitar), John Lissauer (Leonard Cohen Producer), Rob Mounsey (piano), A.J. Croce (Jim’s son - piano) and many others. As passionate about cooking as she is about music, in November 2014 Erin Dickins released a new cookbook with an accompanying CD, Sizzle & Swing - Jazzin’ Up Food by ComteQ Publishing with Dot Time Records. In concert with the book/CD release, Dickins launched a new line of herbal seasonings that shares the moniker, Sizzle & Swing. Ms. Dickins was awarded the prestigious Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award and was also the recipient of the “Best Jazz Vocalist” honor awarded by CoffeeTalk Jazz Radio in Los Angeles. She is currently booking for 2017-18 internationally. * Erin Dickins: Vignettes review – 10 stunning duets Dave Gelly Sunday 9 April 2017 03.00 EDT Ten tracks, 10 duets, each with a different partner – not showbiz names, just startlingly good musicians. And Erin Dickins, New York session superwoman and founder member of the Manhattan Transfer, knows the difference. Some, such as drummer, vocalist, harmonica player Paul Jost are multi-instrumentalists; others, such as bassist Bruce Hamada and vibist David Friedman, are straightforward virtuosi. With a mixture of technical brilliance and stylistic instinct, Dickins builds a fascinating series of vignettes, ranging from quick-cutting, multilayered effects to simple voice and piano. Arranger, composer, keyboard player and producer Rob Mounsey has been a steady studio cat since the mid 70s when he was discovered playing in a Boston bar band and invited to move to New York. Since then, he's worked with many of the greatest artists of the time - the list is too long to place here, but suffice it to say that he's worked on a lot of records you've heard.  Here he talks about his personal discovery of music as a young man, his career path (or lack thereof) and his general outlook on music and life. He also considers the impact of Zen Buddhism on his process, as well as visual arts, food, and a general sense of compassion - both musical and personal. www.robmounsey.com

Rob Mounsey is a self-proclaimed music nerd, having taught himself classical music composition at the very early age of 11. With a natural passion for music, he earned his way into the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he migrated his energy into the world of jazz while studying with the likes of Gary Burton, among others. Fresh out of school, Mounsey briefly hit the road with the Tommy Dorsey Band, but decided life on a bus wasn’t for him. A wise decision, as his career as a studio musician and solo artist began to flourish. Settling in New York City, Mounsey went on to perform with and produce some of the biggest names in music, such as Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, Madonna, Diana Ross, Ashford and Simpson, James Taylor, Michael Franks, Rihanna and many more. But Rob Mounsey ‘s career is expansive. Not only has he performed with the biggest names in the industry, he’s also taken on projects for television and film, such as creating music elements for Sex and the City, and for films like “Working Girl” and “Bright Lights, Big City” with Donald Fagen. He’s a six time Grammy nominee and has taken home two Emmy’s over the course of his career. And the good news is that with all of his successes, he’s still as passionate as ever for his craft. Inside MusiCast welcomes the multi-talented Rob Mounsey.
