Today, we welcome Micaela Hoo, co-founder of Chronically Hacked and My July, to the Courageous Wellness Podcast. Micaela Hoo is a writer, lifestyle entrepreneur, and chronic illness coach living in Los Angeles. She is the co-founder of Chronically Hacked, a world renowned and celebrity endorsed online course about how to navigate the confusing world of chronic illness. Additionally, Micaela and her mother, Dawn, run My July, a clean skincare line that was born out of her chronic illness. She serves as a mentor in the Global Lyme Alliance Peer-to-Peer Mentor Program.  When Micaela was diagnosed with late-stage chronic Lyme disease among other chronic illnesses and found it difficult to find safe products that wouldn't irritate her skin, her mother, Dawn, turned to nature's simple gifts and developed homemade remedies that were effective, gentle, and comforting. Hi everyone! I hope you have had a wonderful summer. I've missed being with you! My July was spent soaking up precious time with my family, relaxing, and hitting the pause button on the daily rush of life. It's so important to remember to take time for ourselves to refill our cups in all the ways we need. One of my favorite things I did during my break was re-listen to all of the amazing guests that have visited the Cracking Open podcast thus far. And – WOW! We have had some spectacular guests in Seasons 1-4! I was astonished all over again by the profound wisdom, intriguing conversations, and depth and vulnerability of every single guest that has come on the podcast. In fact, I found myself in such deep awe and gratitude, that I decided to gather some of my favorite clips from the past four seasons and put together a recap episode filled with golden nuggets of wisdom that were shared by some of our guests. It was honestly really hard to choose which ones to highlight because each episode shares an immense amount of wisdom, truth, and vulnerability. But in order to avoid making this episode several hours long, I followed my gut and chose several clips that I know you will love revisiting again too.I created the Cracking Open podcast to help people feel less alone and more hopeful. There is so much light,  even during our darkest hours, and our Cracking Open moments are what teach us the most about life and love.Love, MollyP.S. Do you know what the common thread is among all of the guests that have visited the Cracking Open podcast? The answer might surprise you... they put themselves first. They have been through the ups and downs of life, like we all have. They have faced hardships, challenges, heartbreak, and loss. They have come face-to-face with life-changing, life-defining moments. And in those moments, they chose themselves. They chose to heal; to live their truth; to show up with vulnerability and authenticity; to radically shift their circumstances; to go for the dreams they had been holding back on... it was their time and they knew it and leaned into it. Are you ready to put yourself first? Are you ready to choose YOU?It's Your Time: 6-Month Group Coaching Program with Molly CarrollStarting September 2023Interested in learning more?Book a free discovery call with Molly Carroll here.

Micaela Hoo is a 28-year-old freelance content creator, social media manager, Global Lyme Alliance (GLA) peer mentor, and entrepreneur from Los Angeles, California. She is the co-creator of MY JULY, a clean skin care brand. Born in the eastern United States Lyme belt, Ms. Hoo's childhood was interrupted by persistent illness, learning difficulties, issues with word recall, and heightened sensitivity. She made frequent trips to doctors and medical centers without securing a diagnosis. Ms. Hoo's health did not improve when her family moved across the county to pursue professional opportunities on the west coast. Frustrated by the medical community's failure to diagnose the source of her chronic symptoms, she turned to social media where she was told she “sounds very Lymie”. As a graduation present, her dad offered to pay for a visit to a highly regarded California based Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD). Her gift included an IGeneX Lyme disease test that answered the multiyear medical mystery. If you would like to learn more about how Lyme disease inspired a digital creator and entrepreneur to build a social platform that bravely represents “what it looks like when you do not feel well”, then tune in now! Have you ever had a low cash month?! What kind of rhetorical question is this? ofc you had.  We all did and we all still do. It doesn't matter if you grow to 5-6-7 figures, you're still bound to have low cash months or low sales months, or low revenue months. The next question is: What are you making it mean?  Followed by: How are you moving forward? I used to be ashamed and make it mean that I made a mistake, I must work harder to redeem myself because otherwise I am weak and not good at business or manifesting. And this pressure actually worked. Shame works. For years I made consistent good money. But it came a day when I didn't want to shame myself into working more or working harder when I just wanted to slow down and bring more ease into my business. And yes, all hell broke lose and I am still releasing the blocks and limiting beliefs that don't allow me to do that fully. See what I mean in the podcast episode. Show Notes: - Struggling to be consistent: "Is this type of content the best for me right now?" And while I do believe that I must invest in my business in order to grow, I have to invest wisely, with focused intention. That philosophy applies to both time and money, because not only am I spending more money than I want to and not getting the ROI I want to get, I’m also spending more time than I want to and also not getting the ROI… So you know whose fault that is? Mine. My July income report is a clear representation of me winging it. Giving into the relief of not worrying about money and then making totally random decisions about how I spend my time (I’m looking at you, Bluehost Birthday Sale) and chasing shiny objects (Pinterest, that’s you. Definitely important, but I didn’t plan for you, Pinterest!). Yes, I’ve got my schedule and I was planning my week every week, but if how I’m spending my time doesn’t tie out to an overarching, clear goal? What’s the point? Oh my gosh, imagine what I could do with solid systems, a concrete plan, and laser-focus? That’s exciting to me. And that’s why I’m planning to do my own little mini-retreat so that I can go off and make some decisions about what I want to focus on for the rest of the year and in 2019 and create a plan, a budget and BOUNDARIES to make it happen. And as I plan for the rest of 2018 and for 2019, while I have a strong focus on increasing revenue, I’m going to look at realigning my spending on expenses to make it happen.

I can't find the email from a concerned reader of Brave Men Run that I mention in the episode, but it did inspire this ten year old post that features a less developed idea of the artist's responsibility, specifically for writers of fiction. I mentioned my songwriting. You can listen to or purchase many of my songs on Spotify, Amazon, iTunes, and most other streaming or digital download marketplaces. I can't find the email from a concerned reader of Brave Men Run that I mention in the episode, but it did inspire this ten year old post that features a less developed idea of the artist's responsibility, specifically for writers of fiction. Do you have a certain, specific, responsibility as a creator? I think about the artist's responsibility a lot, and it's on my mind every time a comedian or filmmaker comes under fire for the work they create. So in this episode, I lay it all out and define the artist's responsibility. It's a bit different from, but kin to, James Baldwin's interpretation. With all due respect, his version might even be a subset of mine. Listen and see what you think. This is a discussion that encompasses technology, health, innovation, the future, and of course risk and uncertainty. It raises a number of fascinating and challenging questions around personal freedom and public protection. Today, we're talking transhumanism. My guest is Michele Battle-Fisher. Michele was my guest on episode 20. She is a respected systems theorist, bioethicist and futurist. Michele is an adjunct professor at Wright State University in Ohio, USA.  She is also a co-producer of an upcoming documentary called “Transhuman”. If that rings a bell, it might be because I had Ford Fisher, the documentary's other co-producer on episode 36 of All Things Risk. If you listened to that episode, you know that transhumanism is the belief or theory that through technology, we can evolve beyond our mental and physical limitations. It includes things like biohacking, genetic engineering and life extension. It is exciting, but also raises a number of questions and uncertainties. We explore these in this episode. For instance, if someone wants to hack their body, why should anyone interfere? As you'll hear, it can get complicated. Michele and I discuss: Transhumanism and personal freedoms; Whether or not these technologies should be regulated, and the constraints that might create for innovation; Unexpected consequences, risks and uncertainties associated with transhumanism; For instance what happens if the body rejects some of the changes to which it may be subjected?; Transhumanism and inequality; "Dark networks" and black market transhumanism; Loads more! Show notes: Michele's webpage: mbattlefisher.com She has a page dedicated to both the documentary as well as to her book Application of Systems Thinking to Health Policy and Public Health Ethics which is a 2016 Doody's core title, selected as “essential” to medical knowledge. What is it we are celebrating this week?  How far have we deviated from our founding values expressed in the Declaration of Independence? In this special episode of the Conservative Conscience, we break down six key principles referenced in the Declaration of Independence.  Anyone who fully understands the 201 words of the preamble should have no problems discerning the right course of action on almost every policy issue.  While the world around us has changed dramatically over the past 241 years, these foundational principles are self-evident truths that will never change. I recently found myself caught in my own trap. My July 6th post on social media stated that when someone behaves badly, rather than react with disdain, show them their goodness and encourage them to express more of it. Always champion their excellence. Yet less than three days later, I violated my own philosophy. This show is brought to you by Talk 4 Radio (http://www.talk4radio.com/) on the Talk 4 Media Network (http://www.talk4media.com/).
