A few weeks ago, Dave Grohl fans woke up to find an oddly worded post on Dave's Instagram account announcing that he'd fathered a child “outside of” his 20+ year marriage. Rough confession from the Nicest Guy in Rock. In the midst of our current societal moment when this type of admission gets you “canceled” and our parasocial relationships are out of control, our massive Dave Grohl fan, Elizabeth, breaks down her thoughts on the matter and whether it's really any of our business. Over his thirty plus year career in comics, Archie Goodwin racked up a lot of accomplishments. He wrote horror stories for lots of Warren Publishing's anthologies. At DC, he wrote Detective Comics, Manhunter (more on both of those later), and was the editor behind Batman: Black and White, the early issues of Legends of the Dark Knight and James Robinson's Starman. At Marvel, he co-created The New Universe (they can't all be winners...). But possibly the biggest accomplishment, before his untimely passing in 1998, was that he was regarded as the nicest guy in comics. Everyone loved Archie. So this week, we're reading his first story on Detective, the Manhunter backups he wrote for that same series and a loving, tongue in cheek tribute done in the animated series style. Deathmask! (Detective Comics V.1 # 437) Manhunter (Detective Comics V.1 # 437-443, Manhunter Special Edition) The Threatening Three! Matt Walls is a freelance wine expert and an award-winning wine writer and consultant. He is a contributing editor to Decanter, and writes regularly for timatkin.com and Club Oenologique. He is also the author of "Drink Me!" Which won the Fortnum & Mason ‘Best Newcomer' Award, among others, and he wrote an opus on the Rhône Valley, “Wines of the Rhône,”** which is a brilliant book that has everything you want to know about the Rhône. Buy Matt's Book!** Photo: www.mattwalls.co.uk Matt judges wine competitions, presents amazing master classes, AND he's probably the nicest person in the entire wine industry and fun too, as I learned when I met him in the Rhone in 2022 at an industry event in the Rhône. Photo: Credit: Wine For Normal People Here are the show notes: Matt tells us about how meeting a French winemaker with breathtaking passion, and being outstanding at French led him to consider a career in wine. We discuss the research that went into “Wines of the Rhône,**"the most comprehensive look at every appellation in the Côtes du Rhône and the larger Rhône Valley. We get into a lot of dorky details about the Rhône that Matt writes about (beautifully and succinctly) in the book. We cover: The complex geological history of the Rhône and all the “ingredients” that make the terroir what it is today The biggest differences between the northern and southern Rhône How climate change needs more attention from Rhône producers and how winegrowing and winemaking practices (trellising, too much destemming, the fashion of “phenolic ripeness”) have augmented the alcohol and “bigness” in many Rhone wines Irrigation and acidification and why each have their positives and negatives The grapes of the region, the diversity of those grapes ,and which will be the winners or losers in climate change We discuss some specifics of the regions: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, specifically why there are so many different styles and why some are $20 and some are $500 Crozes-Hermitage and how to find a good one (hint: Matt's book is how you find a good one**! Matt mentions the town of Gervans as a granite area. Cave de Tain has good quality wines too) We touch on Côte Rôtie, Tavel, and Rhône whites Matt gives us a great tip: IGP Collines Rhodaniennes is for Northern Rhône wines that didn't make the cut into Côte Rôtie, Condrieu or other northern appellations because the vines may be young, regulations are odd, or the harvest was plentiful and they had enough grape to be selective and put only the top grapes into the AOP wines. To end, Matt tells us the areas he finds are highly underrated (Costieres di Nîmes, Luberon, Ventoux, Duché d'Uzès, Vacqueryas for white are mentioned) and he tells us some great tips to consider when traveling to the Rhône. Matt's book is a thoughtful and easy to read guide to this magnificent region, so if you want to get great wines from this area, which is packed with outstanding wines, many of them underpriced, his book needs to be on your shelf. I no longer shop for Rhône wines without consulting it. Plus, he is such an awesome human we should all want to support his work! Meet Paul Byrd. Many may feel like they’ve met this former Major League Baseball pitcher already because of his familiarity as an Emmy-winning commentator on Fox Sports’ Atlanta Braves broadcasts or a best-selling author. He’s a man so genial he was widely considered “the nicest guy in baseball.” In fact, former Braves manager Bobby Cox once was quoted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper that Byrd was “too nice to pitch.” Broadcasting for one team and pitching for seven — including two stints with the Braves — have given him a platform by which he can communicate his faith in Jesus Christ. And while there’s a baseball idiom that “nice guys finish last,” Byrd isn’t so nice that he won’t fight for what he believes in. “When you are considered the nicest guy or a nice guy, there’s this feeling of that you’re weak, you’re soft, and you may not want that guy on your team if you’re going to war,” says Byrd, who almost got into a brawl in 2006 with a Cleveland teammate needling him about his faith. “There’s a time to turn the cheek and there’s a time to crack the whip in the temple and both are manly.” Byrd inherited that toughness from his father, whom he led to Christ only minutes before he died in 2017. He had doubts when he hung up his cleats and walked away from three guaranteed contract offers to pitch after the 2009 season but had the strength to put first things first — his 27-year marriage to Kym, with whom has two sons. “I want to connect to Jesus and have such an intimate relationship with Him, talking and listening and learning,” Byrd says. “I want to go love other people because that’s who I am. And that only happens when my heart is right with Him.”

Alchemist Nation Podcast With Gualter Amarelo The Real Estate Mentor
In this episode of the Alchemist Nation Real Estate Podcast, I talk with one of the people I consider the nicest guy in real estate syndication. Before I dive into the podcast, I want to know how Dustin knew one of our celebrity coaches for our mentorship Mitch Jaworski. He says that they met at Rod Khleif's conference in 2018. I tell him that Rod Khleif is a big syndication guy, does a lot of training, and I actually find the networking at those events better than the training themselves. One thing Dustin enjoys about Rod Khleif's training is the goal-setting at the beginning which he sees through one of those. Related to the above, I further ask Dustin what made him think that real estate was the right avenue. He says that he invested passively in his first deal was a multifamily deal that was 76 units where he was a key principle in that deal with a buddy of his. Once he walked through that process with him, the due diligence with him, and all that stuff. He says that he was a super sharp and nice guy and once Dustin saw that he could do it and one thing that he is attracted to with real estate is that it is not all about working smart but he really likes it when you can apply a lot of effort and really see big results. Going through the process of the 76 units deal, he was like he can do this and he is going to this. From that point, he hired a coach and started from there. Dustin offers 3 pieces of advice to 20-year-old Dustin that would possibly change his life and give everything he has now a little faster. 1) - Buy real estate 2) - Partner or Hire a coach as quickly as possible. 3) - Self-care and working out, that's what keeps you on top of your game. Here at Gearbuds HQ, we bring you the GOODS. This week that holds extra true as we are joined by our newest Gearbud, Evan Thomas Weiss, the monstrously talented and prolific driving force behind Into It. Over It., Pet Symmetry, Their / They’re / There, and probably a few more you already know and love.On top of being The Nicest Guy(tm), Evan also finds time to work in brand partnerships at Reverb, which we discuss as he generously walks us through his musical history and evolution. We consider the irony in being a Gearboi but not a DAWboi, having his cover blown after showing up on a Rolling Stone best of list, trying to hone in on the source of his drive and motivation, remembering all of the songs, and our first cars. Also discussed: sweet old Eventide and Korg rack gear, Recording in Progress and the importance of engineers, Jimmy Eat World’s Clarity, Slate’s Fresh Air plugin, Black Friday plugin deals from Soundtoys, UA, Waves, NI, Trapt getting kicked off FB, and the legacy Bruce Swedien.…What’s a spammer jammer?
Frank is one of the nicest guys I've met in comedy. I still don't know what project we worked on together. Maybe we didn't work on anything at all. Maybe we just chopped it up at the store for a bit and I flagged him as a dude I would love to work with. Either way this is a great episode about comedy. Have fun don't get hurt.

How long does it take to make a hit song? If you're Hayden James, it's an hour to come up with the idea, then 4 months of tweaking and perfectionism. That's how long it took to make 'Something About You,' the incredibly fresh, break-through song from the Nicest Guy in Dance Music. Tom and Hayden sat down in December 2017 in Brooklyn, New York to chat about music, touring and life on the road.

This week’s episode touches on the recent changes made to the football team’s coaching staff (yes, with an announcement pending at some point Saturday). Does the dismissal of two of Mike Riley’s longtime assistants mean that the “Nicest Guy in College Football” is feeling a sense of urgency? What does the new defensive coordinator bring to Lincoln? Does it mean Nebraska could see a 3-4 defensive scheme for the first time in over twenty years? Well, I don’t know! Plenty of recruiting talk as we are just weeks from National Signing Day: Coaches are out on the road and kids are scheduling trips to the Heartland. Let’s see what the final push will bring. A little frivolity in the episode as well, as the guys discuss a couple late-1990s movies. And Greg’s dog tries to intervene and take over the show (hence the featured image). So there’s that.
